Your advice is really invaluable! Even though there are millions of MN threads it's so helpful to hear your practical views within a smaller group. Things can really feel overwhelming otherwise, at least to me. ❤

We might buy a swivel one with two bases, one per car for the newborn. I think we will need two separate seats when the LO starts going to nursery though because both of us will be doing drop offs/pick ups, so we might bite the bullet and get two seats then that will be suitable longer term. It's an endless expense isn't it! But obviously that's one thing worth its weight in gold safety wise. xx

@biscuitcat @PurplePansy05
Sorry bit late to reply but we have the Uppababy vista. We love it. it's seriously sturdy and DD is very happy to be in it. we ended up on a seriously bumpy walk the other day and it coped really well. She's 26 months and still plenty of room. We got it because it was the easiest to fold etc when we played with it in the shop and we loved how easily the bassinet lifts off. Also we liked how it turns into a double although the age gap is going to be a few months shy of 3 years we're not sure if we will need it to be a double. Going to get the buggy board for it though. it comes in loads of nice colours but we got all black as we liked the design the best. It's big and does take up the whole boot of the car but I wouldn't change it.

wimbler · 16/02/2021 10:32

Also with car seats I think Cybex now make a swivel base that is compatible with both the baby seat (cloud Z) that can be clicked onto the buggy and the next stage up seat (sirona Z) so you only need one base. The cloud Z car also has the lie flat option which I would have loved to have had. When they are first born they shouldn't be in the car seat for more than about 20 mins so being able to lie them flat when you attach it to the buggy I think is a great feature. We had the besafe IZI go which we will be using for #2 and will then buy another seat for when they grow out of that. That's what we did for #1. We have the cybex sirona S and I really rate it (but probably wouldn't use it from birth)

Alittlexmasmagic · 16/02/2021 10:46

@wimbler love the lie flat option.
We had the Kiddy Evoluna I-size 2 which was great. Teamed with a Morrck blanket and we could go anywhere, for any amount of time with minimal fuss.
We then moved to the Nuna Norr swivel seat and he's now in a Cozy'nSafe Excalibur 2/3 car seat x

Had my scan yesterday 13 weeks baby due 23 August feeling both excited and relieved after having 2 miscarriages. Just wanted to share the joy. Hope everyone is keeping well xx

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 11:10

Wow, this sort of thing (Cybex cloud Z) would tick all my boxes @wimbler! Awesome recommendation. Great ADAC rating too. It won't be cheap but if I can keep the same base for next seat up, I'm v happy with that. Now to just match it up with a pram, the mission continues 😂 xx

biscuitcat · 16/02/2021 11:24

@wimbler amazing thank you! That car seat system seems perfect - and sounds like it would allow buying two bases so DH and I can each have one in our cars? Glad to hear about the Uppababy too, just need shops to open now... can I ask, is there a particular reason you wouldn't use the Sirona from birth?

@Winecoffeeteamum congratulations! Lovely scan and so pleased it's good news for you 😊

wimbler · 16/02/2021 11:49

@biscuitcat No problem! I definitely would have gone with that combo if it was available when I had #1. Yes you could get 2 bases and switch the seat between cars. I wouldn't have used the sirona from birth because I found being able to put the car seat onto the buggy really helpful - no need to wake the baby by unstrapping them and putting them in the bassinette. if I took her out in the car I nearly always did this but if I walked from home I used the bassinette. In hindsight i would have bought a cybex seat from birth though, I think they're really good and their safety rating is really good.

wimbler · 16/02/2021 11:51

@PurplePansy05 I think the cybex seats are compatible with most pushchairs which is good. Might take a bit of a hunt to find the right adapters but its such a major brand you should be ok!

Carefree1 · 16/02/2021 12:01

Like the idea of the cybex base and then get a bigger seat later.

@Winecoffeeteamum congratulations 🥰

I know some people have told work their news. But when does everyone else plan on breaking the news? I’m incredibly nervous and worried about the reaction. I know you don’t need to tell them until 15 weeks prior to due date, but I feel that’s not a lot of time for recruitment and handovers etc. Xx

notinthestarsigns · 16/02/2021 12:08

Glad all went well @Winecoffeeteamum!

@Carefree1, at the moment I am not planning on telling work until after the 20 week scan. Whilst I appreciate they might find it helpful if I told them earlier, I hope they will understand why given what we went through in my last pregnancy, and I need to put myself and the baby first and do what I few will be easier for me. If for any reason I feel like I need to tell them earlier than that then I will do.

All very helpful about car seats etc. I’m trying my best to avoid looking at anything for the next couple of months but useful to know. I expect we will get isofix bases in both cars for ease but just one car seat initially.

LottSE20 · 16/02/2021 12:10

Hi all

I’ve been lurking for a while, plucking up the courage to get involved! I had my scan on Fri and currently 13 + 2 weeks - due on the 22nd August. We conceived through our 4th round of IVF, after a 4 year journey. So feeling blessed and terrified at the same time. You have all kept me sane the last few weeks!
@Carefree1 I haven’t told work yet, but I work for the Civil Service and have a supportive boss so lucky in that respect. What’s making you nervous?

Pram chat has been amazingly helpful, I hadn’t even dared think about any of that yet but hadn’t realised how complicated it would be!

X

I don't think I'll actually order anything big till after 20 wks but I would like to have a shortlist of items I think might be best to then try them out in the shops. It also helps me a lot to check the prices before to see how much of our savings we'll need to use. It looks like we'll have to stretch a lot with our renovation too, but 🙏 all will be fine. I'm the finance manager in our household, as you've probably guessed I like being organised and have a good Excel spreadsheet every now and then 🙈

So ladies I think we'll need a new thread! I'll create one in Birth Clubs and try to tag all of us in it, please keep an eye out 👀 xx

ED81 · 16/02/2021 12:17

@winnie3838.
Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm 39 years old and thinking about the nipt harmony before nhs scan. I see you've gone down that route too. Would you recommend it?x

BertieBotts · 16/02/2021 12:23

No, @BertieBotts all good, I've reported mine, it will disappear now to avoid confusion 😊 Let's follow your link! I was worried we'll exceed a 1000 posts on here and created at the same time as you 😂 All sorted now! See you there xx

Carefree1 · 16/02/2021 12:54

@notinthestarsigns I don’t particularly want to tell work before my 20 week scan either. Nor will I buy anything.

Hi @LottSE20 congratulations 🥰.
I’m nervous because it’s very male dominated and they’re not particularly supportive on anything outside of work. My manager is supportive though. Xx

Whatshouldbemyusername · 16/02/2021 13:24

Congratulations to all mums who had their scans.

I had mine too!it was unreal and all went sooo sooo well!!! I had a too full bladder so I had to go semi empty it 3 times and baby was comfortable on the back so they had to send me away for a 30 week walk and then finally got the scan done as they needed 🤣🤣

@PurplePansy05 please put me on the due date. Mine is EDD 22nd August and it’s a surprise. 💛

ED81 · 16/02/2021 16:09

@PurplePansy05 and @WolfMother326
thanks for your replies. It's really helpful.
Do you have bloods aswell as a scan as part of the test?

Does it give a negative/positive result or is it in the sense of a low, medium, high risk?
Also at what stage in your opinion is best to have the test?
Questions questions! Hmm

PurplePansy05 · 16/02/2021 16:11

@ED81 Can you post on the new thread (see link above) as we won't be able to reply on here before the thread closes?
