Lucy - I'm flying to Australia On Jan 11, and have been told that I need a doctors letter for check in. I'm also going to request bulkhead seating for the extra legroom etc (but I'm also flying with dh and 2 dd's so I suspect an upgrade is out of the question!!!)). Make sure you check the rules that your airline has about flying when pg. I'm definately investing in the flight socks, if nothing else they might help my feet not to swell up hugely. I'm about to call our airline to check a few things direct as I don't want to just take the travel agents word for it that everything is okay! I'll let you know if they say anything important.

Canadianmom · 10/12/2004 19:23

Delgirl: I am so happy to read that you are having a healthy(ish) pregnancy! (I haven't been on MN for months and I am looking up familiar names to check on progress!) You made both dh and I laugh ourselves silly at a time when laughing didn't seem possible. THANKS again!

xoz Glad to see that things are progressing well for you! The flight socks are good tights are brilliant when pg. I have never flown to Australia but often between the UK and west coast of Canada and they make an immense difference!
Best wishes to all of you!

miranda2 · 10/12/2004 21:48

I've been amazed over the last 24 hours - when i tell people I'm having a boy (if they ask if we found out), they all commiserate!!!! Ok i may have spent five mins or so not disappointed, but wondering if I was disappointed to be having another boy ('never going to have a girl' etc), but rapidly decided I wasn't! I can't believe how rude it is to say 'oh what a shame' or 'oh, never mind'! If you were only going to be happy with one answer, why ask the bloody question in the first place?? I wouldn't have got pregnant again if I'd seriously cared what sex the baby was. Honestly! Shall probably be seriously rude if someone else does this to me.
Has anyone else who has found out decided on a name already? WE have - ds is already calling the baby by it!!!

Seabird · 11/12/2004 10:45

I'm not surprised you're fed up Miranda - that's so rude!! And anyone who's had kids knows that you love your firstborn so much that you're delighted at the prospect of another one the same. I would have been really happy with another dd, but I have noticed how people light up when I tell them this one's a boy as if that MUST be what I wanted, so I can imagine what they'd be like if I said it was another girl (and DH would probably have got it even worse, even though he hates change and would have felt much safer with another dd).

Perhaps you could head off any rude reactions by replying to the question with a huge grin and "It's a boy - a brother for [ds] - we're SO pleased!"?

orangina · 12/12/2004 18:03

miranda2, that IS rude, I agree with seabird. mind you, it is amazing what people will say to you when you are pregnant, as if all the usual rules about tact, discretion etc just go out the window, forget about factoring in perhaps just a LITTLE bit of sensitivity because of hormones etc. "ooh, you're HUGE now aren't you..." and "are you SURE you're not having twins?" are 2 of my personal favourites! am enjoying people telling me i am looking radiant (hoho!), more especially as I am feeling anything but (pre-christmas stress on full blast just now...)! Had an Alien moment last night when the creature did some very complicated acrobatic activity and I saw this huge bump (a bottom maybe?!) move across my lower abdomen, and I was quite sure it was going to burst out of me.... one of those milestone moments i think...! hope you are all having a restful weekend?!

xoz · 13/12/2004 16:31

You're making me laugh with all this talk about the tactless comments that people make!!! It gets even better near the end when you really are HUGE (I'm sure none of us really are HUGE yet!) and everybody suddenly starts to think that your bump becomes public property and they start just putting their hands on it without asking!!!! That's the bit I really didn't like the last 2 times!
Miranda, I'd think up something really horrible to say like "oh yes well we're going to adopt this one out and try again immediately!" just to shock anyone who said that sort of thing!!!! It might make them think about how stupid what they said is.... and if not, at least you'll get a kick out of the expression on their faceGrin.

orangina · 13/12/2004 18:12

well xoz, on the same (ish) subject, last week we (me and dh) went out to see some friends, and it was the 1st time we had all got together since I got pg.... the BIZARRE thing was, they all wanted to touch my bump, and asked if they could do so..... but they didn't ask me, they ALL asked dh! (sorry, but whose tummy is it anyway?!). Apparently my permission wasn't required.....! Shock

jumpin · 14/12/2004 11:05

Hello all. I haven't posted a message in ages but had my scan at 22 weeks on Friday. All well and I'm having a little girl - very pleased as we already have a little boy aged just three so one of each ! Mind you, ds is so gorgeous I would have happily had a boy too.

Lucy99 · 14/12/2004 15:04

Hi all and congrats on your girl Jumpin!
I have to say I am almost relieved to know that everybody else has been getting rude/tactless comments too - thought it was just me! It seems like a lot of people think they have a right to comment on any decisions you make during your pregnancy. I have had so many people ask if I know what I'm having and when I tell them that its a girl they seem really genuinely disappointed that we asked at the scan and tell me we have ruined the surprise! Also I've had a couple of people ask what pain relief I am planning and when I said I wanted an epidural they looked horrified and listed a great long list of reasons why I shouldn't. I was under the impression that it was my body and therefore my decision but it would seem it is in fact up to everybody else! Next person who attemps to make me feel guilty for not wishing to give birth with nothing more than an aromatherapy candle to alleviate the pain will be dicing with death! Sorry to rant, it's just driving me totally nuts! Other than lots of annoying comments everything else is fine. Baby booting me regularly just to let me know she is still in there! Hope you are all feeling good and not too frantic with Christmas shopping etc x

xoz · 14/12/2004 15:45

I have become very at good at smiling and nodding while seething on the inside and then going away and proceeding to do it the way I want. The stupid comments, unwanted advice, etc don't go away after the baby is born either regrettably. The topic just changes to how you ought to do everything!
I think I'm going crazy, this is my life in the next 3 weeks ahead.... bear in mind that we are leaving the country on January 11 and haven't started packing yet!!!
This week - Christmas party every day for various toddler groups that dd2 attends as well as dd1's nativity and christmas party for her preschool.
Next week - Thursday 23rd we fly to Glasgow to visit our friends up there, staying until 26.
The next week - From 26 - 31 staying in London to do the touristy things we haven't got around to yet.
Then we come back, have 4 days to pack and move out of our rented house, so the cleaners can come on the 5th and we give back the keys on the 6th! Then we are staying ???? for a week until our flights on 11th.
AM I CRAZY OR WHAT!!!
I know it's self inflicted but, it makes me exhausted just thinking about it.

Raindog · 15/12/2004 15:27

Hello everyone
Xoz - yes you ARE crazy! But I really hope everything works out and you don't wear yourself out over Christmas. It must be so exciting as well as exhausting! I bet you can't wait.
Luckily I've escaped tactless comments so far, but this morning I got my train into London Bridge to go to work and got beaten to the last seat (as usual). It was quite busy but I stood up (obviously sticking my belly out as far as possible and patting it with a weary look etc etc ). As we approached the next station some guy looked at me and stood up as if to give me his seat. Just as I was about to sit down he stepped back saying 'oh, wrong station' and SAT DOWN AGAIN!! I couldn't believe it! there was me thinking it must be the season of goodwill or something, but nope, still no room at the inn!

Vic69 · 15/12/2004 17:16

Luckily I haven't had to try this yet (everyone in Norwich is nice and gives up seats without asking!) but have you tried being really upfront and asking for a seat in a loud voice? When my DP was in London before his double hip operation and having to use the tube with TWO walking sticks (age was against him as he's only 35) he got very good at saying: 'Which of you nice people is going to give me your seat? I really need to sit down'. It got an instant response and worked every time - the embarrassment factor seemed to do the trick. He wasn't aggressive about it, but very matter of fact. Maybe you could try the jokey approach: 'Who wants to feel good about themselves this morning? I may go into labour over your shoes if I don't get a seat!'.
Would love to know if any of this makes a whit of difference to all those nasty hard-nosed commuters but it's worth a go I reckon!
Vic

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 18/12/2004 15:22

Hi all, hope everyone is ok and blooming. I've not been around much lately and tbh don't have much to report but just thought I should say hello at least. The baby is very active now, it's lovely. Though it does seem to have one day partying and the next day quietish. I could have sworn that one day he/she had invited mates over for a party as it was none stop gyrating!! I presume this is quite normal. I, on the other hand am not very active lol! That's not strictly true as I seem to have been here there an everywhere lately and far too many late nights too. Looking forward to a few earlier nights this week, then come the new year, I'm going to hit the baby shops....looking forward to that even if my bank balance isn't!

Gem1355 · 20/12/2004 22:46

Hello, Just want to say hi, been a hectic week what with xmas coming up! beginning to bloom and stretch now!!! and baby is wriggling around abit more, but still have tremendous back and hip ache.
Hope everyone is keeping well.
Love Gem & Bump

GoldFrankincenseandMerlin · 20/12/2004 22:51

Hi everyone - should be in bed, but keeping an eye on DS who has developed a nasty cough and can't get to sleep, so I'm hanging about until he does!! Bump is growing and moving around a bit more now, but still think it's a lazy wotsit like DS was - he hardly did a thing and had to do kick charts etc to make sure he was still OK in there!! Looking forward to Xmas, but wish I could down a few glasses of wine!! Also finding I can't eat such big portions at the moment, baby must be squashing my stomach - mind you that's probably a good thing! Hope everyone has a great Christmas and heres to a wonderful 2005!

Seabird · 21/12/2004 20:30

Hi, I just wanted to add my seasons greetings to everyone too.

Xoz, how is your crazy plan going? Hope you're not too exhausted and have fun in Glasgow. You might have a white Christmas before you head back south!

Gemma, sorry to hear about your aches & pains. Hope they're not getting you down too much or keeping you awake.

I'm ok, still tired thanks to my pregnancy insomnia (& DD!) and with a bit of a cold but baby seems to be doing well. I think I might have to take my rings off soon though - hands are starting to get a bit puffy especially in the mornings. Anyone else got this already? Last time I think I took my rings off at about 30 weeks and I'm not yet 25.

Gem1355 · 21/12/2004 21:55

Hi yes my aches and pains are keeping me up, but i just say it's my body getting me ready for when baby is here!!!
Seabird i haven't had puffy hands, but have had puffy feet,
Hope everyone has a great xmas and wonderful 2005.

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 22/12/2004 06:26

Glad to see i'm not the only one who can't sleep. Well, not glad exactly cos it's a pita isn't it! The last few nights i've barely had 4 hours. I think it's partly to do with the fact I've so much going round in this little brain of mine from the moment I wake up. It's getting quite frustrating now but I suppose it's good practice for what's to come . Suffering with back ache daily now and am being referred to the physio I think but still waiting for an appointment. On a brighter note, am so enjoying all the kicks i'm getting, really brings you closer to the little babe doesn't it awwwwww.
btw, can anyone describe to me what braxton hicks are really like? I keep getting this real ache low down (as low as you can go almost) across the width of my bump which lasts a few seconds. It feels like muscle strain/periody pain. I get these a few times a day but like I say it only lasts a few seconds and then it goes. just wondered if these are braxton hicks or just stretching. Afor I go, I shall add my christmas wishes to you all and hope you all have a happy and peacful time and we can all look forward to a special new year, it will hopefully be my best year ever and certainly the best since DH and I married.

csa · 22/12/2004 08:57

Merry Xmas and Happy 2005 to all. Hope everyone has a nice relaxing time over the holidays.
Seabird, I took off my rings when i was about 14 weeks. The last time round, I left it too late and really struggled to get them off (even considered having to get them cut off!) so I am not risking that this time ) got it round my neck on a necklace at the moment - only problem is i feel like a cow cos the 2 rings jingle like cow bells everytime i move :0

motherpeculiar · 22/12/2004 15:09

Festive Greetings to one and all. Have a lovely holiday and very, VERY, happy New Year.

I haven't posted for ages but have been trying to keep up with everyone. Feeling like I am about to enter the large and slothlike 3rd trimester (after an energy full 2nd which I was hoping would last a wee bit longer). BAbe is kicking a lot which is just fab, but keeps getting stuck just under the left rib which ain't so comfy!

HAve just booked a home birth as it seemed to be the only way to achieve continuity of midwives around here. Bit terrified of the home birth bit, but hey, could be great and if not off we go to hospital with a midwife that I know. This is really important to me this time around.

Saabird, I still haven't put my ring back on since I had DD so don't talk to me about swelling

My moods seem to be swinging a bit these days - does this happen around now? I've been on a REALLY even keel up until now (which is MOST unlike me )

hope you all have a lovely holiday and get some rest. To those of you suffering insomnia - you have my sympathy. Hope things get better.

XXX

miranda2 · 23/12/2004 10:46

Happy Christmas everyone, and all the best for the new year! Seems so strange to think we'll have 7-8 month old babies this time next year...

Roobie · 23/12/2004 13:32

Glad everyone is well - there's not that much to report pregnancy wise at the moment is there?
Anyway, we're off to the in-laws in Newcastle tomorrow (lovely 7-hour drive!) so hope everyone has a great Christmas. I'm certainly planning on indulging in a Baileys or three!

orangina · 23/12/2004 15:03

Merry Christmas everyone, and hope you all enjoy a great holiday season.... as full of as much smoked salmon, mince pies and baileys as our squashed up tummies will hold! Catch up with you all in the New Year (might then be time for thread #3?!)

aprilmeadow · 23/12/2004 16:29

Just wanted to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and and fantastic new year.

I have to take my rings off at night as i have developed a slight dry itchy patch of skin right under my wedding rings. Luckily still able to wear them on my other hand - not sure for how much longer though.

Baby is moving a lot, which is wonderful! Put on about a stone so far, but this could dramatically increase over the festive period!

Not sure about indulging in Baileys, but if you were to offer Shandy that would be another matter

Take care, and heres to a very exciting new year!!

Seabird · 24/12/2004 20:21

aprilmeadow I got a bit of dermatitis under my eternity ring too - took it off a few weeks ago but it's still healing. Glad I'm not the one not wearing my rings.

I'm indulging in a Christmas Eve G&T right now - very weak but I can still feel the Christmas spirit nicely . This time last year I had a 5 week old - am really looking forward next year to having as many G&Ts as I want AND - fingers crossed! - a decent night's sleep afterwards!
