dundeemarmalade · 26/10/2007 10:59

also, and sorry to post with yet another newbie-seeks-reassurance post, but i'm not sure whether the achey/crampy feeling at the very bottom of my bump is enough to warrant a call to the mw. it does feel a bit period-painy, but isn't very bad and has worn off a bit now. hmm. also getting uncomfortable shooting pains at top of inner thighs and round lady-bits. sorry if tmi. i'm well looking forward to being bump-less, but i'd rather not meet the niblet this early!

claraq · 26/10/2007 11:30

Dundee not sure about achey crampy feeling, could be b/h's - I have never had so don't know! But I have also been having some wierd shooting pains in lady bits so assume this is just part of the process at this stage! However in my humble opinion always better to check with m/w if you are worried about ANYTHING - better safe than sorry.

claireybee · 26/10/2007 11:38

Thanks everyone, feeling a bit better about things today-think exhaustion just got the better of me yesterday! Dh got dd up this morning, so although I was already awake it did give me a bit of a chance to rest.
He does spend time with her at weekends, but playing-I still usually get her up, ready etc and pack the bag for him. This morning though he did change her, get her dressed and give her breakfast so can't really complain!

When i wee in the pot i wrap toilet roll around it just in case i do miss-was v embarrassed one time when i had to hand over a pot with a week stained label! It is getting harder and harder to aim though!

I'm obviously old for my years-I changed the page layout straight back, really didn't like the new way!

Dundee, sounds possibly like baby is engaging. I only had the heavy feeling in bits and pelvis with dd but others are repoting similar to you. Call the mw if at all worried though, that's what they are there for!

mixedmama · 26/10/2007 11:40

dundee.... thought i posted a response...

i had this around 25 weeks and went into hospital to get checked out and they said probably braxton hicks or uidentified pain which wasnt very helpful. They did monitor me tho which made me feel better. i think it was the fact that the legs, back and bits were getting pains as well that threw me. if in doubt get it checked is my advice... at the very least monitor it and note down times etc and exactly what they feel like immediately after as they asked me all these questions and i sounded really silly not really having the answers.

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 11:43

dundee - think both cramps and shooting pains are normal at this stage - shooting pains are (probably I think) because the baby's head is down and putting pressure on ladybits and pelvis in general. I get a lot of crampy pains round belly now and assume they're normal, but as claraq says if you feel worried better to ring mw to set yuor mind at rest

yes it is close to impossible to get brain into academic mode at atm. I am only at the very beginning of the writing up process while everyone I started with is now submitting (I'm 6 months behind because of ML for dd). I have discovered a couple of threads on here about doing a PhD and being a mother/pg which are very reassuring (might be worth a look for you too if marking is getting you down: student parents) but still hard to think about models of eye movements during reading (yawn) when I have a little baby growing inside me!! I am grateful that I am not essay marking at least though and sympathies to you - my least favourite activity in the world..

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 11:47

claireybee - glad you're feeling better today and good on your DH for getting you dd up - long may it continue.. a little lie-in even if you don't sleep makes all the difference to the day

think my wee pots are always wee-stained I wipe the wee off though so it is dry - is that still gross?

Amani · 26/10/2007 11:51

Dudee - I get the crampy pains at the bottoms of my bump - but I suspect it mostly due to the fact that I sit at my desk best part of the day. My SIL got it quite severe towards the end of her last pregnancy and she was refered to the hospital where there the consultants mentioned it was partly due to the fact that she spent 3 hours driving to and fro from work everyday and maybe it was about time she cut back if not stop it.

Don't worry about airing any concerns; we all do it and the wonderful thing is that we all try and help each out.

Skid - all the best with your PhD

MM - read your AIBU thread and sorry to say, I think you are - but i think you know it .

becklespookle · 26/10/2007 12:02

Hi all, not sure if I count as old or not - probably in between but I have changed it all back to the old way too!
Dundee, have had period cramps in lower belly for a few days now on and off, don't remember it in previous pgs though. Also get pains in my thighs, when I was reading up about SPD it said that pelvic pain can often be transferred to the inner thighs and buttocks as well as hips, pelvis and lower back. If you are worried though then speak to your MW.
Talking of SPD, any other sufferers found it has eased off at all? I have had a couple of weeks where it has not been too bad at all (touch wood). I find that when baby is sat quite high (and usually transverse) the pressure is off and I feel okay, only when LO goes head down or breech that it is really uncomfortable. Is starting to get worse at night again so perhaps LO is finally thinking about settling on a good position for birth!
Neuro am in Suffolk and MW service here is awful. What makes me so mad is that 5 years ago when I had DS2 it was fab!
Skidaddle glad you feel excited about having 2 now, it really is lovely - hard work at times but lots of fun. I think that sometimes waters do go in a gush, I know a friend of mine knew when hers were about to go! Mine had to be broken both times and like Mixedmama's with DS2 they were broken once I had started pushing.
Unfortunately there is not really anywhere I can take the kids with the phones other than soft play again, too grotty for the park today . Might let them have the playstation on this afternoon though, that should cover any disappointment they have about being indoors! Taking them to cinema on Sunday instead which will be nice as then DH can come too.

becklespookle · 26/10/2007 12:04

Skid, I always miss the wee pot so I seal it and then wash and dry the outside. Is not gross - they should give us bigger pots, I think even men would struggle to aim into that tiny opening! MW always wears gloves anyway.

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 12:05

well couldn't resist but look at your AIBU thread MM - yes a little but you know that anyway and you took all the YABUs with very good grace!

amani - thank you. Maybe one day I will be DrSkidaddle [wistful emotion]. In fact dundee you should probably change your name to DrDundeeMarmalade to remind me it is possible!

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 12:09

last time the mw had no wee pots so she gave me a poo pot instead (with a little blue spoon attached to the lid!) - I told her not to worry I wouldn't poo in it but she wasn't very amused

beckle- cinema on Sat with DH sounds even better, and glad your SPD is easing off a bit

dundeemarmalade · 26/10/2007 12:12

thanks for the advice . it's so nice knowing there's other people out there with the same things going on! i'll keep an eye on things and see if it gets any worse/different.

re. wee pots, had to do an extra sample for lab testing last time and i got a fantastic sealed kit from the mw that had a little funnel in it that fitted over the top of the standard sample tube. doesn't fit onto my usual pot but makes it a lot easier, especially as i usually have do it at the last minute cos i ALWAYS forget.

Ambi · 26/10/2007 12:28

Had MW appt, not so bad, actually a nice MW! Got a breech baby though, but she said it was a small baby (although I don't really think they can tell that!)Thelady - when I was unwell on Mon, the MW reckoned it was the baby turning around which made me nauseous and lightheaded - perhaps yours was doing the same if it wasn't food poisoning. really not looking forward to consultant "turning" the baby around - leave her alone fgs. (Overprotective mother already)

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 12:39

ambi - how many weeks are you now? there might still be time for your baby to turn esp if they are small and have room to move about?

mixedmama · 26/10/2007 12:47

Yeah I know amani... it is just i have been bugging DH to find out if he has at least put it in and he just didnt bother... now thanks to his crappy new company it has messed things up, suspect i am a little peeved at DH for not chasing sooner.

Just had a very good opticians appointment. Went to a tiny independant one near work and there is one main man. He was very attentive and explained everything properly and told me that I can in fact wear contact lenses if i want (contrary to what i was told at one of the bigger chains last time) despite having a stigmatism and expalined why. Very pleased and was not pushed in any way into buying new glasses. will be making him "my" optician from now on.

Amani · 26/10/2007 13:00

MM - am sure anyone with stigmatism can wear contacts, called 'toric' (sounds like that, although I don't know if it is spelt like that) lens.

becklespookle · 26/10/2007 13:03

Glad you had good appt Ambi, when will they try to turn LO?
Mine has still not settled on a position yet and I am 31 weeks - my stomach muscles must be awful as I barely feel it flip over! Getting hiccups and wriggles down at the bottom today.

Just out of interest, where does everyone else feel their LO's hiccups?

Blackcatswizzskas · 26/10/2007 13:04

Hello everyone,

Not at work today so have been away from Mumsnet. You have been too chatty, I can't keep up.

I had my antinatal class last night. DH came along for the first time - hated it - thought it was stupid. Do they all think that or just mine?

They were talking about stuff like pain relief. I hope I can manage at home with just gas and air. ~Might try and get a prescription for pethadin but am hoping not to have to have any. I hear its not nice and it affects the baby too.

Blackcatswizzskas · 26/10/2007 13:05

Mine hiccups on my bladder. His head is down at the moment and his arms and legs are on the left - his spine is on the right.

mixedmama · 26/10/2007 13:10

My DH thought that antenatal classes were a waste of time as well.

thelady · 26/10/2007 13:18

loucee:
The slingmeet website has a forums section:
www.slingmeet.co.uk/forums/
and there are meetups in Edinburgh, Glasgow and (I think) Stirling at the moment. If you scroll down on that page you'll find the Scotland section and you can then go hunting. You do need to register to post.

DH tried the Baby Bjorn at our NCT class with af 7lb doll and said it was beyond uncomfortable. As our families don't seem to make babies under 9lb we're looking at alternatives!

skidaddle:
Hang in there! I've done the PhD thing, and am quite convinced that the only absolute requirement is a stubborn refusal to give up. In fact, a tradition in our dept was to have a quote at the front of the thesis and mine was: "A definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different result." Felt a lot like my (practical based) research.... The lad on the bench next to me had a quote by Gen. Douglas MacArthur "We are not retreating. We are advancing in a different direction."

Blackcatswizzskas:
I think the reaction to antenatal classes depends on both the DH and the classes. Our local ones would be screamingly boring for DH (frankly, I find them a bit of a waste of time) but he's really enjoying the NCT ones and feeling a lot more confident about what to expect as a result. There's very little lecturing from our NCT class leader - she basically puts us in groups and leaves us to give whatever-it-is a go (bathing baby, putting baby to bed last week) and then comes round and explains what/why/how to do it better.

I was horribly confused by the new look at first - just appeared when I reloaded the page - but I like the fact that it loads so much faster now and I can read down a page instead of up it.

Am very at those who got a good night last night. I've no idea what the sproglet was up to, but something was wedged underneath my breastbone for most of the night make breathing awkward and moving downright painful. DH commented that I hadn't kept him awake by snoring - at which point I explained that snoring tends to happen only when you're asleep.... Bless him though, as he left me to snooze for most of the morning and then turned up with tea, home-made bread, and posh honey [smug smirk].

Other weird preggy stuff: I bought a wedge cushion to use at the PC, but it made my back hurt worse. Now I'm using it in the car as otherwise I don't have enough space between bump and thigh to use the clutch.

claireybee · 26/10/2007 13:18

I have astigmatism and have worn (soft)contacts for years now. The only thing is that my contacts don't correct it so when i first got them things looked like they were on a slope (just like when i first got my glasses). Actually don't think my glasses correct it now either...

I hate going to the optician! worse than the dentist for me. at least at the dentist there is a good chance all will be fine but I know my vision is terrible and its even worse if i get an optician who doesnt look at my notes first and asks me to read the board without anything correcting my vision- I can't even see the board let alone read off it!

Mine hiccups down my back passage-not very pleasant. Is in the same position as baby wizzska.

Ambi · 26/10/2007 13:18

am 34 weeks this week, got another appt at 36, when it'll be decided if it's def breech, a visit to the consultant will be in order, skid- MW did say that cos she's small she has room to move (but secretly looking forward to a cs now) Also if I have a section, will be a Nov girl

don't think i've felt any hiccups so far, or actually strong kicks for a while, more squirmy. Wizz - glad I didn't go to AN class now.

mixedmama · 26/10/2007 13:24

clairey - I cant see the board either without my glasses, cant see very much to be honest. He said that there are contact lenses that can correct the astigmatism (sorry for getting it wrong earlier). The reason I normally hate opticians is cos they normally try and make me buy glasses and I am a sucker for a nice deisgner pair... I cried when my Chanel ones were beyond repair, I loved them with a passion.

skidaddle · 26/10/2007 14:01

blackcatwizzskas - my DH wasn't keen on the NHS classes either but only because they weren't very informative. What was it that your DH didn't like?

thelady - wow another PhD-er - gives me hope and like the idea of a quote at the begining of my thesis - if it ever comes into existence - what was yours on (area only - I'm sure I won't understand the title!)? What a bunch of intellectuals we are in the December group, haha

ambi - looking forward to a cs? Really? Because you'll know when the baby's coming? Lack of pain? Gosh, you are v. brave
