DD follows me to the loo as well and comments on events - ooh mummy big poo (claps hands enthusiastically)

amani - your poor dd crying when you go to work - makes you feel awful doesn't it?

Feel sorry for DH as well because he actually spends more time with her than I do (marginally) so you'd think it was him she'd be clinging to

insy - yes my DD follows me round the house with a dustpan as well!

suey2 · 22/10/2007 10:32

I have ordered the medela swing electric breast pump- it seemed to come out tops in all the consumer reviews- will let you gals know how i go with it.

yes suey that was the one I was going to go for - is it about 50 quid?

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 10:43

lol skiddale - yesterday I got brought a book and toy whilst on the loo bad habit from using the potty I think - and yes I get clap too and never an opportunity to flush, he's decided thats his job (he also waves goodbye to it )
mixedmama - I wish he'd just play with the taps!

Amani · 22/10/2007 10:53

Skid - you reminded of something my DD done last week.

Am trying to get her aware of her bladder and stool movements as am hoping to start potty training her soon, so everytime I change her nappy I mentioned 'Oh, you done a poo poo/wee wee'. Anyhow, we had parents evening with the nursery staff on Thursday night and out of the blue she started to say 'Daddy done a poo poo' for about 10 mins in the middle of our discussion in front of two of the nursery staff! I can only assume she saw my DH come out from the toilet before hand for her to remember it.

Suey2 - yes us know how it is, as I am contemplating that one and the Avent ISIS.

claireybee · 22/10/2007 11:00

Morning all.

Agree with others about the pooing, I actually had no problems going but the thought of it was quite scary until I actually did!

Labour pooing-thats actually one of the things I'm most worrying about this time! Last time I knew i needed to poo before I could even think about pushing baby out (with the poo it wasn't even a case of pushing it out just unclenching followed by tons of diarhoea-sorry way TMI!!) but obviously they didn't believe me and so wouldn't let me go to loo so the midwife had to catch it all in one of those dish thingys, felt bad but if she'd just let me go to the loo...

DD is also clingy atm, getting lots of cuddles which is lovely but dh can't change her nappy without full on tantrums, and if he tries to give her her bedtime milk she refuses to drink it-only mummy can do that. Can see it getting worse and am imagining tyring to bf newborn whilst somehow giving dd her bottle. she was doing it herself but has regressed and now mummy has to do it. Also dh took dd downstairs yesterday morning and she really protested-normally she is only too happy to spend time with him.

At my antenatal appointments she throws a fit everytime I lie down too, although she was ok when i saw the consultant and he lifted her onto his knee so she could see!

The other thing she is doing is lifting up my top and saying "Look!" so far has only done it at home and at toddler group but have a feeling she'll do it somewhere a lot more public soon!

claireybee · 22/10/2007 11:03

Oh and I have the avent isis (manual) and mini medela pumps, both are good-the medela slightly better for getting my letdown but then the avent quicker once the milk starts coming... The avent is quite handy too cos then you express directly into a bottle rather than a seperate container which saves on the washing and sterilising!

suey2 · 22/10/2007 11:13

skid- I can't remember- there are 2 medela- i think it was either 60 or 80 quid.
Clairy- i have gone for the bags which attach directly to the breast pump, so easy for storage. I will be using the new avent sterliser which automatically sterilises every 6 hours and once sterlised, stay so for 6 hours. So will be using avent bottles, but pouring from the bags. DH will be doing the last feed- I plan to start expressing as soon as i can.

I've got 32 wk app this afternoon with mw and will be discussing home birth - you've just reminded about labour pooing - I'd blocked it out and dh reminded me the other day by asking if we'd need to buy a bucket or something to put things like that in i know i won't care when in labour but the thought of it is horrible - really don't want to have to ask the question!

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 11:16

I have to say it was great to be able to go to bed at 9 and let DH do the feed at 11 so I could get some decent amount of sleep... I am mindful of messing up BF this time tho so am going to avoid this for the first month then express to have DH do it.

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 11:21

insy - my dd waves goodbye to the poo too! Are all toddlers the same?!

amani -lol at your dd - mine says similar things. At the w/e we were at a bus station and dd said she needed a poo so dh took her off to the toilet. When they came back I asked her if she'd done a poo and she shouted, 'daddy big poo daddy big poo' and this is the worst part - instead of being suitably embarrassed dh nodded proudly and said to dd 'yes it was quite big wasn't it?' Revolting man

claireybee - I remember your labour poo story from a childbirth thread! It's obviously playing on your mind, you poor thing!! At least if it happens again you'll be prepared...?

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 11:25

insy - I'm sure the mw will just deal with any errant poos - no need to ask

claireybee · 22/10/2007 11:25

It is...Think I need to just get over it and accept it happens really! Or maybe this time i need drugs so I'll be out of it and won't care if i do...

dundeemarmalade · 22/10/2007 11:42

if only we, as 'grown-ups' could recapture that toddler-ish fascination and pride in our poos. is it an english/british thing?
i am still regularly reminded at family gatherings that i was given to announcing to total strangers at the age of 2 or 3 that i could poo and wee at the same time. i peaked at an early age .

suey2 · 22/10/2007 11:45

I still have pride at times- but at least have enough social graces to not discuss it! (15 years of IBS for you)

skiddale - they were very discrete last time as I don't remember it being an issue, just don't know if I should ask if they need bins, something for placenta etc...

anyone after a home birth and knows about that type of thing?

Amani · 22/10/2007 12:07

Wehn I went to ante-natal classes last time, the m/w there was lovely and told us not to worry about all the stuff that comes out from down below (poo, blood etc) - they've seen it a million times before.

For me the only concern about the downstairs region is having a lovely bikini line (! ) and fingers crossed that I don't have another epsiotomy.

Neuro · 22/10/2007 12:14

Hi all

Can anyone advise me please? I had blood tests last week and am anaemic and have just started taking iron pills prescribed by the doc. However I am finding work very very hard because i can't sleep at night and now tired not only from lack of sleep but feel sooo weak I can barely concentrate. I know i was joking last week about wanting to lie on the floor under my desk, but this morning i feel like i can't even lift my arms up off the desk! I've got a pile of work but no concentration and can't see to rouse myself. I worked 6 hours at my part time job in the vid store and it's killed me. I'm not used to feeling so low on energy. I don't know whether to have a few days off work or do i take them as sick as i feel unequipped physically for work. It's alarming! I'm a right healthy bugger usually...

Do iron pills perhaps take a week or so to work? (And no amount of bronzer/blusher is helping my appearance either...!)

Neuro · 22/10/2007 12:15

by the way i saw an old chum at the weekend who is quite princessy but she had a really calm birth, said she just shut her eyes a lot and imagined herself as this hole that needed to get bigger. She only had a bit of gas and air and it was all over from start of labour to baby in arms in 4 hours. Said she trusted her body and has ended up with a calm body. She did say though that she could've just been lucky too.

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 12:16

dundee - well done for the precocious multi-tasking!

I think you're right about the British reserve and pooing. I have a Swiss friend who says he and his sister still often accompany each other to the bathroom if one needs to go when they are in the middle of an interesting conversation (they are 34 and 32)!

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 12:18

neuro - think iron pills should have quite an immediate effect but you need to take them with vit C so you can absorb the iron.
Spatone is an iron supplement which is gentler on your digestive system than the pills the doc will prescribe

Neuro · 22/10/2007 12:27

Yes i've been having a glass of OJ with my daily pill.

Think i might be working too many hours is taking it's toll.

Not sure whether to take day off tomorrow and just totally rest up. Suppose i could take it as a day's hol? I feel guilty for taking a day off for pregnancy related issue, but it that misplaced guilt?!

suey2 · 22/10/2007 12:29

Neuro, sounds like your iron levels may still be plummetting- i would go back to the doc ASAP.
Good to have you on again BTW- haven't heard from you for a few days

Neuro - Ive had problems with my iron and was told that taking folic acid as well will help to boost your iron levels, but give you mw a ring though and see what she suggests.
Ive got a m/w appointment later today, but i cant even be bothered to get ready, i feel so worn out atm.

Neuro · 22/10/2007 12:40

Thanks Suey. I might call them again actually as i feel dreadful.
