Morning all,

Hope you are all ok.

Well done Bouncingturtle for you message - it really annoys me too with all the parents who use P&C spaces when they obviouslyhave no children.

Hello all newies!

Agree with all the comments about exploiting mothers-to-be with expensive products. Am going to try my luck with eBay for slings. I need to get cracking my hospital bag too. Last night, I suddenly panicked thinking 'oh my' gosh I've got 2 months to go and other than a couple of body suits and nappies, not really looked into other things.

Got 7 week left until m/l....hope the time flies by....

Enjoy your day all....

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 08:43

amani - have you thought about which slings you are looking for? I am confused by the choice - have been thinking either mei tei or ergo..

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:00

Morning everyone...in very good spirits today, had a quiet weekend, but DH mucked in with the cleaning yesterday which was great so we finally have a house that is a little presentable altho that my toilet brush broke mid cleaning and had to fish bits aout.

Anyhoo, everyone seems in quite good spirits here this morning which is nice. All the usual cramps etc from me but resigned to the factt hat they are here for a while yet.

Couldnt resist posting re: the pooing. I didnt find this too bad, but it would be considerabley worse if strain was involved, I did however worry everytime I had to wee as it stung, but will certainly be using the tip of peeing either in shower or puring whilst peeing altho I will likely make a mess as well. Skidaddle - labour poo, OMG DH still laughs at me about this, but I needed to push, so I did and I went to the loo loads.

My ante natal classes MW said when you arrive to give birth you leave your dignity at the door, honestly that is the biggest piece of truth regarding labour.

Amani · 22/10/2007 09:01

Skid - er no!!

I've been thinking between Hubababy, Baba sling or this one Scottish company on eBay called 'Bright Sparks' which does slings too. Ditto on being confused by choice - don't want to spend a huge amount, so think I will be hunting on eBay to see if I can find one of the above for a reasonable price.

Has anyone thought/bought breast pumps? Not sure whether to buy one now or wait until after the baby is born????

Amani · 22/10/2007 09:02

MM - how did your conversation go wit DH?

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:03

www.brightsparkslings.co.uk/slings.htm#coorie

Skid / amani - someone on the Jan thread has been recommended this esp for winter babies.

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:04

It wasnt quite the sit down and write things down plan I had, but more a passing convo in the car, but was satisfactory for the moment.

Amani · 22/10/2007 09:06

Good!

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 09:09

amani - breast pumps - last time I bought one before and was lucky it was great (avent isis one) gave ds his first expressed bottle at 3 wks - think they don't recomend expressing before then anyway so you give your milk a chance to come in so you have plenty of time to go and get one if you're not sure.
I know if baby is in special care they have pumps in hosp which are apparently really good so you can use those if need

I've heard the coorie sling recommended loads on this site but I was keen on the pic on home page not a good way to base a decision but it was getting confusing!

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:12

I have an avent one as well...not sure if it is the isis, but it was fine, but I think i tried to express too soon really so it was a little hard going... will remember the 3 week advice insy.

Amani · 22/10/2007 09:15

Am sure I read somewhere that expressing was a good help if you had engorgement during day 3/4....so just wanted to be a little prepared....

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:19

OMG - we called the agency on Friday to say that we did not want our temp back this week and the agency havent told her and she has just turned up and we have a new temp for this week coming in..... how awful.

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 09:46

oh dear mm, how embarrassing - has she been told yet?

breast pumps - I had an avent one too which was OK but took AGES to get more than a couple of ounces. Have been toying with the idea of renting an electric one this time but will wait and see how it's all going once ds is born

hmm not sure about those coorie slings - siad they are made to measure the wearer which means would have to get two - one for me and one for DH..

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 09:48

BTW since all your 2nd timers are online - have any of you been experiencing an increase in clinginess with your current dc? My dd over the last few weeks only wants me and if DH tries to give me a rest at the weekend and play with her downstairs she just screams for me. I feel like she senses that someone is about to come along and take away all her attention

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 09:56

amani - from what I can remember expressing a little for engorgement is ok but not a full feed as your boobs never settle into a routine, I expressed at 10am and my boobs always had enough milk because they adapt and think its an extra feed.
The avent breast shells are good for engorgement or hand expressing some out in the shower or bath if your not sure which pump to buy

mm - thats very awkward, was temp ok about it?

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:58

The agency just called and our supervisor just bottled it and stayed away, so when she came off the phone she looked to me for answers. Was awful and she was nearly in tears as has got up bought her travelcard etc and the agency woman refused to discuss on the phone what the problem had been.

She was peed off cos she thinks that someone here should have approached her and said something and my company feel the agency should have told her. Also, she now has lost a days work and needs to find work for the rest of the week.

I am a little annoyed I was left to deal with the aftermath really.

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 09:59

Skid - yeah Dh has been quite clingy actually, maybe they have a sixth sense. He cries when I drop him to my mums and stuff and normally he just couldnt care less.

Wizzska · 22/10/2007 10:05

Mixedmama - that is awful about the temp. I used to work for a temp agency just after finishing university, and it is totally their job to deal with the temps. You have to pay them enough!! I'd sack the agency, or at least threaten too - they'll bring you flowers and chocolate and loads of stuff to keep the business .

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 10:06

yes skiddale definitely - ds and I had a day together on sat so dh could do some household jobs and yesterday he wanted to spend some quality time with him whilst I did cleaning but ds kept asking for me and following me round with dust pan and brush - dh got a little miffed about it as ds has been like that all week... we thought it might just be a phase but you're right maybe he can sense it...

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 10:08

mixedmama - dh or ds?

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 10:15

whoops

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 10:16

Oh I believe we are insisting on no charge at all for either last week or this week.

Amani · 22/10/2007 10:17

Skid - completely agree with you on the clingy attitude - although I though it was just an attachment phase she is going through - maybe she does understand after all!

DD has started to cry her eyes out every morning when I go to work and when I pick her up and bring her home, she is usually stuck to me like glue - it's hard trying to make a trip to the loo or get the dinner going - the only time she will settle down is when I put 'In the Night Garden' on for her.

MM - poor temp making that effort to come into work.

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 10:19

Felt awful for her but also annoyed that they left me to answer her questions.

DS always follows me to the toilet and stuff.

mixedmama · 22/10/2007 10:19

he likes to turn on the taps
