Hello everyone.

Glad your iron drip went ok Fifi. Sorry to hear you're sleeping badly Bouncingturtle.

Hi Poppy. The thought of labour is beginning to be a little frightening isn't it. The bigger I get, the more daunted I feel.

I had a MW appointment yesterday. Am now 33+5 weeks. Baby is head down but not engaged yet. It all seems to be going ok so I'm pretty happy about it. I feel pretty healthy so I don't think I'll have any problems with my blood samples.

I came out of the doctor's surgery and bumped into an old university friend who I lost touch with about 3 or 4 years ago. She's got 3 kids and lives really near me. She's a SAHM too so I can go and visit her lots when I'm on ML. So pleased to see her - it really made my day. .

Bouncingturtleskulls · 20/10/2007 12:15

I'm not scared of labour. I'm scared of the first post labour poo... Can they leave the epidural in for that?

Was in Asda today, some tosser (bound to be a block) had parked in a P&C place in a posh coupé, no sign of child seat or child so stuck a post it note on his driver's door window telling him he was "ignorant, rude and lazy" made me feel so much better afterwards.

Wizzska · 20/10/2007 12:31

Good for you Bouncing! People are so selfish.

Oh post natal pooing, another thing to worry about. I am expecting to get piles and constipation.

Pelvic floors!

Lizzer · 20/10/2007 13:03

Here, here - well done bouncing t!

right then I'm going to get off here and start packing!! I am doing dd's room today, god knows where to start!!

I may be some time.....

Have a lovely weekend everybody

claraq · 20/10/2007 13:27

Wizzska and Bouncingturtle - I was discussing the poo thing with a friend who had a terrible first birth, tore left, right, centre, up, down, across...you name it, it tore. Anyway she reassured me and said they give you some "stuff" to make your poos soft and it really wasn't bad at all. I don't think we went into detail about what "stuff" and what they do with it but it did reassure me as this was one of my (many) fears too.....

And the tip I have heard now from numerous people is, if you tear/have stitches down below, either pee in the shower or pour warm water over yourself as you pee (in my case I will probably end up pouring it all over the floor as am a bit of a klutz), it stops the stinging.

dundeemarmalade · 20/10/2007 16:38

This is what i'm doing about all the scary stuff i keep being told by people (post-birth poo-and-wee-pain, fanjo trauma, trashed nips etc):

  1. stick fingers in ears and waggle fingers
  2. sing LOUDLY

Some things still get through this system though, and keep me awake in the wee small hours. haven't seen three o-clock so regularly since i was a stooodent. i guess it's all good practice. .

still, at least i've got ooh, another 50-odd exam papers to take my mind of the sleeplessness and the nosebleeds. i've had 3 biggies in 24 hours. wierd. and gross.

hope you're all enjoying the sunshine, if you've got any!

Wizzska · 20/10/2007 16:50

Have just been looking at that pregnancy book the NHS gives you. Been blubbing at the pictures of birth and labour. Hormones are great aren't they!

Dundee, good tactic!

On the plus side, have also visited Greggs and had a nice caramel doughnut with a cup of tea.

Ambi · 20/10/2007 19:53

I am also ignoring all the post birth details happily reeled off my mums I meet, I just smile and say it won't happen to me, I do lurve denial. What with the pain free labour, one sneeze and the baby's out - it's gonna be a doddle .

Had a baby focused day today which is such a refreshing change. FINALLY kicked hubby and his computer out of the study nursery, to start decorating, had a wicked time picking paints and borders and winnie the pooh pictures so I can make a start with decorating. Also packed baby's hospital bag and made a start on mine, feels so nice to start these things but the back of my mind is that I'm 6 weeks off now, and the baby could arrive sooner than that, I really want to be organised. Hope everyone's ok, glad you asked about the BH too, at least that explains the tightening and feeling winded.

Ambi · 20/10/2007 19:54

sorry how rude, hiya piglet & poppy

ticks · 20/10/2007 21:36

Hi I'm new, but thought I'd pop on and say hello. Am due on 22nd Dec and already feel ready to explode.

Loucee · 21/10/2007 00:33

SKIDADDLE - if you get a moment pop over to the relationships forum and your old thread from March, a lady brought it back to life and now the ladies are wondering how you got on with conceiving a boy... was going to reply that it worked for you but didn't want to intrude!!

Loucee · 21/10/2007 00:34

Hello ticks, I'm due on the 17th and also feel like I'm ready to pop! I can't believe there's another 8 wks of growing left to be done, I am going to be HUGE by my due date.

ticks · 21/10/2007 08:05

My best friend's mum is a 'retired' midwife so she is forever poking and prodding and she told me last time I saw her I had loads of growing room left yet. I was like, where? In my elbow?

suey2 · 21/10/2007 09:47

off to the baby show shortly. Planning to buy myself a nice bean bag so I can stick my big fat belly into it and achieve a reasonably comfortable reading position- which otherwise seems impossible! Also planning to try lots of nursing chairs- although I still fancy the one Skidaddle posted a link to.
Will report back if anything interesting comes to light.

Bouncingturtleskulls · 21/10/2007 10:08

Suey2 - have fun!
Ticks - I'm due day after you! Do you get sick of people saying "Aahh, a Christmas baby", absolutely certain that baby will born on Xmas day!

ticks · 21/10/2007 10:13

I get people a lot less sympathetic saying oh it must be awful to be born
on Christmas day! I suspect it will be a Christmas day baby though, my dd was born on my birthday so I have form for bad timing!

Loucee · 21/10/2007 10:34

have a nice day Suey, make sure you pick up all those freebies

bouncingturtle, yes people have started to annoy me with their comments about a Christmas baby, there's absolutely nothing we can do about when our babies will come so why do they feel the need to comment?!

Bouncingturtleskulls · 21/10/2007 10:37

BTW was in Mothercare and they had the cutest little Xmas outfits....

suey2 · 21/10/2007 14:23

Just back. Quite interesting, but limited on maternity/ new born stuff.Picked up some good freebies and bought some yummy PJs from mothercare for the hospital bag, a body (me) and foot (LO) casting kit and some information about ski chalets where they provide nanny care, info about new baby swimming lessons amongst other things.

One thing that really struck me- the nursing chairs were all SHITE. Really low, backwards leaning, most rocking. Just rubbish from an ergonomic point of view. My BF and I (another physio) are seriously tempted to set up a company which makes things that will not completely destroy your back. The changing tables and cots were awful, too. And a bean bag- £115

The other thing that really struck me was the number of companies who must think that all mothers to be are completely stupid. I mean, serious cash for a seawater spray for LO's face and hands: and all of these 'alternative' things- basically putting a label 'maternity' on it, having pink wrapping and charging 50% more. Quite a racket!

dundeemarmalade · 21/10/2007 15:14

Hello suey. Glad it's not just me that's noticed this. It's a bit like the wedding 'industry'.
I was thinking about getting a bean-bag, as leaning over my big gym ball isn't as comfy as it was. Perhaps you and your friend could invent some kind of flying harness/hammock in the style of Mission Impossible so that it would be possible to adopt a front-lying position without either squishing bump or getting a stiff neck.

dundeemarmalade · 21/10/2007 15:15

and hello/welcome to ticks, piglet and poppy.

insywinsyspider · 21/10/2007 21:37

dundee - I remember thinking it was like the wedding industry when I was first pg! the mark up on stuff is ridiculous

hello pigglet, ticks and poppy

ticks - I get the same sympathetic look when I say baby due wk before xmas (18th), and anyone with a bday near xams tells me how rubbish it is

bouncingturtles - glad its not just me eyeing up the xams outfits - I was planning on getting one pink and one blue newborn outfit (keep tags on and return the one I didn't use) just so lo had something new... thinking of adding an xmas outfit just in case! also bought a babies first xmas decoration for the tree how miffed will I be if I'm 2 wks late and have a new year baby

Bouncingturtleskulls · 22/10/2007 06:37

Hello everyone... oh dear another Monday morning at those who have started m/l already... still got 6 weeks to go!
Insy - DH says he will run out and buy one if baby is born before or just after Xmas! There was this cute little fleecy suit which had "My little pudding" on it which was just sooooo cute! It was coloured like a Xmas pudding!

insywinsyspider · 22/10/2007 08:00

I'm counting down for my last 6 wks too - these 2 weeks are my last 4 days/wk ones though, can't wait to go to 2.5 for nov

Thats a good idea about dh getting outfits, I really liked this one didn't spot the pudding one, will have to go back for another look

skidaddle · 22/10/2007 08:29

Morning,

lizzer/claraq - sorry for the misunderstanding re CAT charges - totally agree Lizzer that we should support mn after everything it's done for us!

Loucee - how funny that thread about conceiving a boy has come up - a bit TMI icluded in it I noticed as well as mention of filthy perverts

hello/ welcome back piglet, ticks and poppy

dundee - LOVE the idea of a flying harness/hammock - could it be done suey?

And agree that most of the baby stuff is a big scam and it is so exploitative because here we all are broody and irrational and of course we will be seduced by cute little fluffy items made especially for our precious babies!! I remember last time DH wanted to get hand towels instead of baby towels for dd and I knew he was right but I really really wanted a cute baby towel (and got one)

Poppy - i wouldn't say that the pain of contractions is worse than really bad cramp and it is certainly more manageable as it comes on more slowly and is predictable so don't panic too much!

postnatal pooing- I found this fine - the thought of it was much scarier than the reality. Now mid-labour pooing is another matter...
