The last thread seems a bit full so I thought perhaps it is time to start a new one

Boys names are hard - i can think of plenty pretty girls names but I thnik it's harder to give a boy a non-traditional name.
Three weeks till maternity leave - I can't wait, sitting at work is getting blooming uncomfortable! First NCT class tonight so I'm looking forward to meeting some local mums to be.
Sorry to hear about all these misbehaving breech babies, hopefull they'll all turn soon.

futurity · 06/01/2005 18:57

We've had our boys name sorted since we found out the gender at 20 weeks. We did the same thing last time..it just helped us connect more with the thing growing inside me to call it a name rather than "it"!

Our name though wasn't on the short list first time round..we had 3 boys names last time and about 15 girls names!! This time we went through the list of boys names and both settle on our choice immediately despite it being in the top 10. I think because we found it harder to choose boys names we didnt really care where it was in the league table! His middle name will be Jack as it was my grandfathers name and that has been number 1 since the dawn of time it seems! Although I don't actually know any children called Jack!!

Angeliz · 07/01/2005 09:17

Our little one will be Amelia Rose

What do you think?
(Hope i haven't just blown my cover )

Angeliz · 07/01/2005 09:18

That is unless she just doesn't look like an Amelia

Momof2 · 07/01/2005 11:42

Angeliz - I think Amelia Rose is BEAUTIFUL! I have a Charlotte Rose (but we call her Lottie)
We decided last night on Benjamin Andrew James (Had to include the Andrew as don't want the initials BJ!!!!) Funnily enough this was our 1st choice but we have been all round the houses.
Just in case they do a Lyv Tyler on us (IE we have been told the wrong flavour) I have Cassie Mary as a girl's name

OP posts:
Angeliz · 07/01/2005 14:18

Thanks Momof2, i love yours too.(Good thinking about the initials )
Think all the traditional names are gorgeous.
If they are wrong about my girl, then i like Elliot or Edward too for boys.

I can't wait to see which way this baby is lying, have app next Wednesday! I am getting all kinds of pointy things, (elbows or knees) sticking out i look like aa alien

bunjies · 07/01/2005 20:24

Hurrah...finished work today. Got a week of annual leave then start maternity leave on 17th Jan. Am so relieved. Just couldn't deal with it anymore. Was very touched as colleagues gave me a gift voucher for a spa/salon place. Not sure whether to go before or after baby. Would really like to get my eyebrows shaped and have a manicure/pedicure as I've never had these done before.

Feeling depressed about the size of my bump which seems to have doubled in size over the last week . I've definitely reached the skin stretching horribly stage and am not sure how I'm going to deal with the next 6 weeks.

Have lots of movements since I last posted and so not sure which way up the baby is.

Excitedly awaiting delivery of inflatable pool which should be arriving next week!

Nik72 · 08/01/2005 12:16

Am very jealous, wish I was on Mat leave. After some sensible advice from mym mum I've decided to extend mine & take some unpaid leave so will go back sept rather than august. Feel much happier about that.
A pedicure sounds like a great idea, I may have to get one myself as I'm having serious problems getting to my feet - DH is going to have to start putting on my socks soon!! Can this bump get any bigger - the prospect of another 7 weeks growth is terrifying!!

Morning ! Not to rub it in but this is my last week at work ! Hurrah ! So should have almost 4 weeks off before due date unless db doesn't get his head down !

Was feeling really pleased I didn't have any stretch marks until I spotted the underneath of my bump in a mirror and they are hideous - sob !

Love the names - we have vowed to keep ours quiet cos our mothers are far too opinionated and we reckon they won't be able to say anything once they meet their grandchild !! Mind you, we have 2 friends expecting 3 babies before us (one set of twins) so our names may be taken and we'll be back to the drawing board !!!!

Momof2 · 10/01/2005 11:07

Hi all,

Hooray last week of work for me too! Boss just msn-ed me to ask if I could be any less motivated today (fortunately he is a nice boss and was joking, but unfortunately I really don't want to be here any more and can't wait to go)
LOL about the alien thing - I have a knee that permanently sticks out just below my ribs and DP refuses to touch it!
Other good news - My SIL has just won me 100 quids worth of reusable nappies! What a bonus. Is anyone else trying this type?

OP posts:
Hazellnut · 10/01/2005 11:22

Lack of motivation - I can't understand that (she says back on mumsnet an hour after being on it !!) .... Somebody did just ask me if I was winding down (I think I may have been winding down for the last 8 months !).

I am planning on using reusables on a friend's recommendation but plan to use disposable for the first couple of weeks (thought I didn't need to complicate matters even more in the early days !).

Momof2 · 10/01/2005 13:37

I agree about the disposables for the 1st few weeks - the hospital also won't let me use them so if I am in for a couple of days I would have to use disposables anyway. Fortunately lots of friends seem to have half packs of newborn size left so I have managed to collect a few for my hospital bag etc. DP is still shaking his head but has decided now that he will get used to them (now we have won them )
Just tucking into a FULL SIZE mars bar at the moment - how nice is that!

bunjies · 11/01/2005 11:27

Not feeling so good at the mo . Came down with flu on Saturday (of course just as I leave work) and have been feeling crap ever since. Temp of 102, achy, etc etc. Temp down now but left with cold and cough. Felt really bad as it was dp's birthday as well and couldn't do anything nice for him. Kids have had it too so it's been fun fun fun here.

We have been using re-useable nappies with our dd who is 2y3m from when she was about 1 month old. Despite what they say about babies who use them she is showing absolutely no inclination to use the potty for what its meant to be used for, i.e. weeing and pooing not a seat for her dollies. We are hoping to use them for new baby but I'm starting to feel slightly overwhelmed about having to wash 2 sets of nappies. I get the feeling the washing machine and tumble drier are going to be on every day.

emandbump · 12/01/2005 12:27

Poor bunjies - I hope you feel better very soon. My body feels so out of sorts at the moment that flu on top would probably be the last straw - lots of galic is supposed to help (although will possibly make you less popular with DP!) I survived my first NCT class last night. I was a bit worried about how it would go - but totaly enjoyed seeing other ladies in same bump stages and listening to everyones questions (especially the boys) was really fun! plus they have promised no role-playing what-so-ever - phew!
Have just blown my all birthday money on a gliding nursing chair (despite promising everyone not to spend it on the bub) - felt a bit extravagant but hey, you only live once!
Good to hear about the reusable nappies- have been umming and ahhing over which brand? I like the colourfull ones but the price range between them all is huge...any advice anyone?
PS I totally agree with Hazellnut with her plan to use disposables for the first few days... can only feel that there will be more than enough other stuff to cope with!!!

Hazellnut · 12/01/2005 12:40

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well bunjies - DH has some lurgy which I am hoping he won't pass on to me !!
As for brand of reusables - I am planning to use Motherease which you get through nappies . (I have also just ordered through them an aromotherapy labour package - not sure it'll do any good but thought it might be worth a try !) The only reason for choosing these is that these are the ones my friend uses and so thought she would be on hand to give me a demo and also it saved having to wade through the pros and cons of each different type !!
Glad the NCT classes are proving helpful - We are quite impressed with ours too despite me also being worried that they would be a bit scarey - second to last one tonight !
Am I allowed to point out I only have 2 1/2 days left at work ?! Sorry....

Angeliz · 12/01/2005 17:16

bunjies hope you're feeling better soon

I had midwife today and she said she's pretty sure the baby is now head down! Phew!
Here's hoping it stays that way. I had a discussion with her about options and said i wouldn't have them try to turn it, i just don't want that and she was telling me that the Doc at the hospital would try to sweet talk me into it. When i said i'd made up my kind she said to stand my ground as he'd threatened a womn a few weeks ago that if she didn't let him try he'd NOT give her a cesearean!!!
Just let him bloody try!!
As it happens it shoul be irrelevant now.

She did say i needed to start taking 3 iron tablets a day as my iron count is only 100 and it needs to be higher!
Any experience of this???

futurity · 12/01/2005 20:57

Back online..horray! Been in hospital which was eventful. All started yesterday when I had brown stuff on the tissue after I went to the toilet. So off we trotted to the hospital and I was admitted for 24 hours of checks ...blood tests, urine tests, baby scanned (he is now head down and weighing 3.2KG..7lbs i believe...I am 35 weeks..EEK!). All tests fine so let home this afternoon to "take it easy"!! Still have a bit of brown stuff but told that is alright and to go back if it gets worse, turns red, effects babys movement.

So that was fun (not!). Last pregnancy I had protein in my urine and so was half expecting problems in this one..why can't I have a "normal" pregnancy! Hope everyone else is well!

Angeliz · 13/01/2005 20:35

futurity, glad you're o.k and hope he stays in for a few more weeks!! At least he's turned eh? (Hope i still have a scan as midwife seemed b=very unsure about wether baby had actually turned!)

I got my iron tablets today and was told to take 3 which is 600mg and from all my research today, (I HONESTLY wish i had a less enquiring mind!!), thta seems too much so i'm gonna just take 2 and in a few days ring the midwife and tell her i'm terribly constipated and would it be o.k just to take ! as i think she already had me down as paranoid freak

Hi everyone. Just been away at Centerparcs for a few days and had lots of fun with DH, DS and DD. Bump is increasingly huge and uncomfortable though! Got another growth scan on Mon. so we'll see how huge it might get! Angeliz, our DD is an Amelia Clementine so I think your name choice is excellent. Interested in hearing about all these plans to use washable nappies. Our DD has been in Motherease since 14 wks. They are fab. and have never leaked and still look as good as new. I'd really rexcommend buying through the Nappy Lady. She seems very ethical in terms of not letting you spend what can be a lot of money, unless you are sure and the nappy she's selling you will suit your circumstances. I can't afford enough nappies to put the baby in and DD in, so I'm trying to decide which one to have them - I think DD may go into pull ups..Got to go in a minute to sand floors. I'm just sooo tired. The night before we went away we were up till 2am, sanding off corners in the lounge. Got to varnish and paint the walls yet..A bath would be so much more appealing! Hope you are all well and not too uncomfortable.

bunjies · 14/01/2005 21:33

Thanks all for your sympathy. Feeling incredibly tired and have been left with a horrible chesty cough. Have also developed incredibly itchy skin and not just around the bump. This is all over, especially my feet, and gets worse at night or when I'm too warm. Have spooked myself by looking this up on the internet and find it could be a sign of a liver problem. So have booked in a blood test next week to allay my fears.

Finding the morning routine of trying to get 2 kids ready for nursery and school very demanding. Have only done it for 2 days (dp did it for first 3 mornings as I was too ill) and still need to find a routine with it. Ended up shouting at ds this morning for not knowing what a nappy wrap was and felt awful afterwards . Did apologise to him and we had a joke that at least he knows what one is now.

Tipex - talking of nappy wraps we started using terry nappies with dd which we would fold in the old fashioned way, fastened with nappi nippas (a fantastic invention which means you don't need to use safety pins). There are loads of different folds you can use depending on the stage your child is at - most of which are described on the nappy lady website. Since dd turned 2 we have been using some shaped cotton nappies that we got from my sister in law years ago but never got round to using and we use a folded terry nappy as a booster. All in all a very cheap and efficient system although you do have to put in a bit of work to do the actual folding which we do in one hit so they're all ready to go. We end up probably doing a nappy wash twice a week. I know you can wash them with other clothes but we put them on a 60 deg wash with pre-wash as I like to know they're completely urine free. For no. 3 as the terries and shaped nappies are getting a bit threadbare I've decided to go for some motherease one size birth to toddler nappies which I will use with a folded terry as a booster when he/she is older. I have found a website called nappymania.co.uk and she is selling them for £6.95 each which is the cheapest I have come across. As I have all the wraps already I will probably buy about 20-25 nappies which should cost about £150 - 175. There is also a very healthy second market for them on ebay so should be able to get alot of my money back afterwards.

laa · 14/01/2005 23:12

Sorry to hear you're feeling so bad Bunjies. Not that it helps you to know this at all, but I developed really itchy skin, esp. on my legs & hands with my 1st 2 pregnancies bet. wks. 29 and 33/34and it's hapened again this time at the same point in the pregnancy. It's been driving me crazy on my thighs, feet and hands and forearms and I scratch so hard it tears the skin. Lots of calamine helps but it is starting to subside. I was told it was just probably hormonal. Hopefully yours is nothing more serious. fingers crossed. I was reassured to see that you are finding it hard to cope with 2 kids and being heavily pregnant. I thought it was me being utterly inadequate, snappy and grumpy. I feel like I'm really struggling to keep my head above water during the wk.witht he 2 of them. DD is 20 mos and DS is 3yrs8mos. I'm just hoping that when this one arives I'll feel much better and at least have the energy to deal with daily life..?!

I have to say having tried both cellular blankets and sleeping bags I would go for sleeping bags although for the first couple of weeks you might want to use blankets as a means of swaddling which can be useful if baby is fretful. How many blankets and sheets you use is really dependant on how warm the baby's sleeping environment is going to be. If normal temp of 18 deg (and you are not swaddling) I would suggest a body suit, babygrow, sheet and either two blankets or one folded over. You can always turn it into a single if you think baby is too warm. If room is very cold then add another cellular blanket.I don't think I've ever had to do this though.

Cellular blankets are good because they don't allow the baby to get too hot but make sure holes aren't too big otherwise they can get their fingers caught in them. Any you can buy in Mothercare will be fine. Fleecy blankets are too warm. Would still recommend a sleeping bag after a couple of weeks though.
