The last thread seems a bit full so I thought perhaps it is time to start a new one

Haven't been on for a while as pc decided to die. In my 28th week now and just had some kind of stomach bug which resulted in lots of vomiting, diarrhoea and awful stomach cramps. Trouble is I'm also getting quite strong braxton hicks contractions which mingled with the stomach cramps means I've now got an extremely sore abdomen. Anyway, I hope that's what they are and not early labour!! Watched a programme last night about premature births and found it quite traumatic. Anyone else suffering with these (braxton hicks not premature labour)? This is my 3rd pregnancy and I have read they get stronger the more you have. Sometimes they're so strong they take my breath away - oh well at least gives me a chance to practice my breathing technique. I too am eating like a horse, trouble is I keep eating all the wrong things like cakes, biscuits and chocolate .

Goodee, glad everyone else is munchingaway - maybe we should start a weeble-wobble club! Someone asked me yesterday if I had twins in there - the cheek! Funny how people would never DREAM of making personal comments about your body if you're not pregnant but as soon as there's a bump there everyone passes judgement on it!! Mind you, at least I've not had complete strangers rubbing it in the street which I've heard happens....hopefully I'm too wrapped up & walikng too fast (even if I am starting to wobble from side to side when I walk now )

emandbump · 04/12/2004 09:58

Hello Feb mums... I'm so glad it's the weekend! I am 29 weeks tomorrow, and all seems to be well.
Also, have at last managed to find a winter coat that fits - It's a massive green parka (a la kenny from south park/ moody boy in East is East) from the mens section of Gap. It's been good to feel a bit trendy again and its so warm - it feels like I'm wearing my duvet - but I suspect I look alot like a huge stuffed olive on legs!!
On the food front, I am still trying to eat healthily - green & blacks chocolate dipped in tea has become my favourite food source
(it's organic so it must be good for me!) ... where will it all end???

jolly4 · 04/12/2004 11:23

Angeliz · 04/12/2004 11:24

Am very jealous of all these eating posts.
I am sick to death of all the heartburn so am eating small portions of mainly healthy food and not after 7-ish at night! (Woke up last night dreaming about lasagne!!!) I think everything else is o.k, though i feel this baby kick VERY hard right at the front on my bellybutton which is very uncomfortable and i can't remember it with dd. Am hoping it isn't posterior though i suspest it has months to get into birth position it appears to enjoy that one!!

LittleNemo · 05/12/2004 12:17

I felt much better about my sudden chocolate cravings when a woman at work came in with her 2 week old baby. She said that the baby was quiet and contented because she'd eaten 2 bars of chocolate a day during her pregnancy!!..sounds like a good enough reason to me to keep on eating

So far have only got a carry cot/buggy 2nd hand from SIL. Need to get a cot but it seems a bit scary. Any advice re what to get/what not to get?

Hazellnut · 06/12/2004 09:52

Glad I'm not the only one that finds buying equipment etc scary - have decided on the pram we want and could reserve it but keep putting it off ... Did buy a dimmer switch at the weekend for what might one day be the nursery but thats about it !! Will be 31 weeks this week so think we will need to get organised soon.. Maybe after Christmas .....

Bunjies - I have had a similar bug too although thought it must be some form of morning sickness so dragged myself into work to pass it on to my colleagues - oops !!

LittleNemo · 06/12/2004 18:59

Must admit I've made alist of things to get- pram, cot, dimmer switch, radiator thermostat.....but struggle to actually get round to buying anything. Glad its not just me. Am blaming the Xmas crowds and the fact that we are going to move house soon. (its been happening 'sometime in the next 2 weeks' since the begining of Nov) Have the feeling that I am going to be running around like a mad thing in Jan.

SANA · 08/12/2004 12:24

I have made a list as well of all the stuff i need to get, but just dont manage to get anything, I seem to walk around mothercare and other places but keep putting it off- its really strange as I am not usually like this but then i think something might go wrong and I shouldnt tempt fate, please tell me I am being stupid.............okay going off to munch on some more food

Hazellnut · 08/12/2004 12:39

Sana - thats exactly what I've done - have a long list and have even decided on quite a few things that I want but just can't bring myself to buy them - DH made me promise to order the nursery furniture on friday as otherwise we won't have the necessary time for it to arrive and set it up before d day !! GULP ! At least it won't arrive till I am on maternity leave so guess it might all feel a bit more real by then !

SANA · 08/12/2004 14:38

Hazellnut, when u going on maternity leave?, I am 29 weeks this week and thinking of going of at 38 weeks ( i here some of u laughing...............)

fufmum · 08/12/2004 14:51

Sana i am 35 weeks this sunday and i'm leaving work a week on Friday so will be nearly 36 weeks. I wish i had started a couple of weeks ago as i am knackered! I have been well and fit throughout but it's the sleepless nights that have effected me most now. So hard to get comfy in bed and i suffer the next day. It's up to you of course but just thought i would warn you no matter how well you feel right now you may not want to be working till you 38weeks.

Hazellnut · 08/12/2004 15:15

I am planning on going on maternity leave at 37 weeks although keep meeting people that are due around the same time and have already left so am getting a bit jealous !! Mind you am planning on taking a week and a bit off over christmas so don't have too many weeks left. One of my colleagues recently made it to 10 days before her due date but she advised to leave earlier than that !

LittleNemo · 08/12/2004 18:40

SANA - i was also going to try to get to 38 weeks before going on maternity. with the break over xmas it didn't seem that far away. Will prob be posting in Jan that i'm on maternity already having said that :)

futurity · 08/12/2004 18:57

Last time I went on maternity leave at Xmas and DS was due on 25th January. However on the 2nd of January I was admitted to hospital for a few days..then spent the next 2 weeks worrying...then had him on the 18th so my proposed maternity leave sort of disappeared into nothing! This time I am self employed and I am not taking anything else on after Xmas to give me some rest (unlikely with 3 year old) before baby comes!

You lucky thing - I don't think those sorts of scans are available up here in the frozen North. Did you see baby move his/her face etc?

I'm off on mat leave at 36+ weeks. What with annual leave & public hols only have 3 full weeks left which is a nice thought. Am off to Perthshire next week for 2 days relaxation. Have booked in for an antenatal spa treatment - can't wait (probably the last chance to spoil myself for a while!).

SnowmAngeliz · 09/12/2004 09:54

Tipex, that scan sounds amazing!

I saw the midwife yesterday and the baby is breech at the moment. I'm 29 weeks so it has plenty of time to turn but i'm still worrying, they couldn't tell but I think it's also back to back with the movements!
I'm a bit freaked now incase it stays breech............any experience anyone???

Hazellnut · 09/12/2004 10:52

At my antenatal class last night a number of people had been told their babies were either breech or transverse and they were between 28 and 31 weeks. The teacher was really stressing that it was too early to call it as breech as teh liklihood was that it would be the right way round by the time they had walked out the door. A few weeks ago, at 28 weeks, my MW told me that mine was either head up or head down, she wasn't sure but either was fine at that stage. Hope that helps but if in doubt aren't there some exercises you can do to help it turn ??

SnowmAngeliz · 09/12/2004 10:57

Oh that's good to know HazellnutSmile
The midwife DID say not to worry but that's not in my nature!!Grin

Nik72 · 09/12/2004 19:37

Think mine may be posterior too - have borrowed a birthing ball from a friend so I can bounce up& down & try to get it to turn!! It was lying trnasverse until fairly recently. Am worrying a little as my mum had a bloody awful 1st labour (with me) - induced, baby posterior, long labour on a drip, emergency forceps - keep thinking I'll go the same way as we're very similar build etc. Am definitely going to try raspberry leaf tea later on.
Hope yours does a nice somersault soon Angeliz - will keep fingers crossed!

Hazellnut · 10/12/2004 14:09

Following on from our conversation earlier in the week - I have finally done it - and ordered the cot (but no mattress !) and reserved a pram ..... v. daunting !! It doesn't arrive though till the end of Jan so think I will pretend I haven't ordered it (until the credit card bill comes in !).
Next decision is car seat .... to match or not to match that is the question....

LittleNemo · 10/12/2004 19:22

Sorry to hear about the mis-behaving babies - I'm sure that they'll move before Feb.

Tipex - I've been thinking about having a 4D scan as a xmas present to myself - well i'm not going to be spending the money on going out this year! But its very expensive here so have been umming and ahhing over it. Very tempted now you've said how good the photos look.

Hazellnut - I'm ordering my cot and pram next friday having checked with the shop that they'll keep them til Feb for me.
