@MooseWL he hates nappy changed and top and tail- very occasionally he’ll not scream but mostly it’s torture for everyone in involved. He seems pretty happy about bath time though. Hated the first couple of times but seems fairly happy about it now while he’s in there at least. Not sure what’s different about actual baths in his head but glad he doesn’t hate them. I still can’t bath him on my own though, he’s so wriggly! OH and I do it together, one holds the baby and the other washes.

WillowT · 01/10/2020 21:23

@MooseWL and @Sara7455 my little one is exactly the same...hates nappy changes, baths etc. She loved being in the actual bath but before and after is torture. We had the first bath tonight as she lost her cord yesterday. Will only be doing it 3 times a week and then top/tail as best we can/allowed by her 🤣🤣

Lilice · 01/10/2020 21:31

@MooseWL my baby hates having her nappy changed too. I thought she would scream the house down when we gave her her first bath but she was fine. We bathed her with a muslin cloth on top of her. I know it sounds weird, as it's like taking a bath with a tee-shirt on, but it worked very well and she didn't cry at all

ShiningStarz · 02/10/2020 03:17

@MooseWL wev noticed since week 2 nappy changes are now quiet!! We put the wipes down our tops / in hands for few minutes before a change to warm it up before using on baby's bum. Makes all the difference!!

Re baths first couple were disaster! My DP and I do it together too, one to hold and kne washes. Last couple more successful, in front of fire in warm living room, water 38 degrees and covering them, couple water soaked flannels keep them warm when need to lift out of water to wash bum etc. I coconut oil after before dressing and all is fine! Do this 2/3 times a week. Top n tail the other days, again warm water and undress only the bit of them that's getting washed so they stay warm x

MooseWL · 02/10/2020 05:26

@shiningstarz hopefully it's just a phase then and our babies will get used to it.
Thanks for sharing bath time experiences hopefully it'll be okay and good point about waiting for tge cord to drop off @willowT

I've had another relentless night of feeds every hour. He has at least settled in his next to me a bit more tonight though. My milk is in and he is loving it. I'm just a walking milk bar 🐮 🥛

ShiningStarz · 02/10/2020 05:57

@MooseWL I'm absolutely wrecked! I slept between 10-1 then dp brought her to me and she settled in her next to me but stirred from 130 onwards and is now in my arms as she won't be put down.

I'm going to have to wake him at. 630 to take over because I'm so tired.

Don't know how you ladies EBF. I give her 2 BF during day, the rest are bottle. I'm on thyroid meds and think it's affecting my supply as I hardly pump more than 50ml, that's 20 mins each on both boobs.

Failed at BF, just so tired

WillowT · 02/10/2020 08:02

The feeding is relentless!! Me and DH have 2 hour shifts overnight as that's how often she seems to feed but it varies!

I've got really bad stomach cramps today...I'm assuming it's my womb contracting back to normal size. I think I read that somewhere....

Lilice · 02/10/2020 08:50

I'm struggling to cope with the cluster feeding every evening 😩
Also she started pulling away with my nipple in her mouth 😖 with a grunting noise. Anybody knows what's causing it?

Lilice · 02/10/2020 08:52

@ShiningStarz im getting the same when pumping. Last night I couldn't get a drop and had yo try again later

Sara7455 · 02/10/2020 09:19

@ShiningStarz agree for baths it’s about keeping them warm. When the nurses demonstrated for us in the hospital we started with him swaddled in a towel with his head over the tub to wash hair, face and neck and then dry his head before stripping down cleaning bum on the way into the tub and then he’s just sat in the nice warm water having the rest of him washed before he’s straight into a warm towel after. Tear free bath times are so much nicer.

Hope everyone starts to get more sleep soon, they do settle eventually. We’re bottle feeding combination of breast milk and formula after bf was a disaster for us and he does now sleep 3-5 hours in his snuzpod at night and when he wakes it’s just a quick feed and back down most of the time. We have some nights when he’s up more frequently with tummy ache but they seem to be fewer now (fingers crossed anyway!).

Hats off the to the ebf ladies, superheroes all of you

MooseWL · 02/10/2020 09:48

@shiningstarz sounds very similar to our pattern the last few nights it's exhausting. He seems to have a dirty nappy every couple of hours overnight too from so much feeding! I also get my partner up to have him in the morning whilst i sleep! Don't know what I'll do when he goes back to work, it's hard work. But we got this it won't be forever! Don't see it as failed as breastfeeding, as long as he's still feeding that's all that matters. Look at the number of people on here that are combi feeding, just shows that it's totally normal!
My partner is very good in the day at the moment doing all the cooking/feeding me/housework, but when he's back at work I don't know what I'll do. Remember months ago when I was trying to find a way to tell my mum I didn't want her to come stay... 🤔 😂 Maybe I've changed my mind haha.

MooseWL · 02/10/2020 09:53

And @willowT I've had sort of period pains too and think it's the womb contracting! Did your midwife feel it for you at a home visit? Mine felt it and showed me how to feel where the top is and how far down it had moved! You could ask them. (what date did you give birth again? A few days before me right?)
My bump is mostly gone now just a little bit of extra belly left from the weight I've put on.
We have to take J to clinic at 1130 to have his jaundice reassessed. Why does getting out for that time with a newborn seem so impossible!

OrDis · 02/10/2020 11:40

Well after 2 days of hideous back contractions DD Audrey was finally born at 12:30 this morning! Despite having the birth of my worst nightmares (episiotomy and forceps) it was actually an incredibly positive experience!! Saying that- my pain relief hasnt worn off yet 🤣🤣🤣. She weighs 7lbs 11oz and has lots of hair (presumably from the 12 extra days of cooking). We are on the ward at the hosp and struggling a bit with latching but fingers crossed when we are both more awake she’ll get the hang of it

Sara7455 · 02/10/2020 12:07

Congratulations @OrDis - So glad it was a positive experience and what a beautiful name for your little girl!

WillowT · 02/10/2020 13:06

Congratulations @OrDis that's fantastic news. Welcome to the world Audrey. If it helps, I had to have a episiotomy and I've had non problems...many people say it stings when going to loo but I have no problems. Just get stitches checked at every midwives appointment and with GP when you switch over!

So happy you thought the birth was positive too! Great to hear! Mine was really positive as well (despite me thinking it was horrendous!!)

Enjoy your new bundle of joy!!!

ShiningStarz · 02/10/2020 13:30

Congrats @OrDis enjoy your special girl 💕
Don't let us complaining of lack of sleep put you off!!! We all go through it !! Xx

ShiningStarz · 02/10/2020 13:31

@MooseWL your lucky your bump has gone! I have a c section pouch and can't feel below belly button. Really wasn't expecting that and selfishly it's adding to my anxiety 🙁

Margo34 · 02/10/2020 14:12

Congrats @OrDis.

MooseWL · 02/10/2020 15:26

@OrDis congratulations 🎊

@shiningstarz oh don't get me wrong I don't look the same as before I have really bad stretch marks and i defo couldn't get a dress on today that I thought would fit, it's just looking more normal than it did a couple of days ago. Your body has changed as you grew a human try not to give yourself a hard time about it!

Lilice · 02/10/2020 16:41

Congratulations @OrDis glad it all went well. My baby girl also have lots of hair 🥰

pangolin84 · 02/10/2020 17:32

@Margo34 From the way they were speaking it sounded like there wasn’t much of his head engaged but hopefully I got that wrong! I still feel like he’s right up in my ribs.
Turns out they booked my induction for Monday when I’ll be 40+9 and it also clashed with my 41 week community midwife appointment. After a lot of ringing around it seems someone wrote my dates wrong and they thought I would be 40+11. However they could only move it to Tuesday as the rest of the week is fully booked with inductions! Really praying the little man decides to come on his own before then as even trying to reorganise this has really stressed me out and I’m not sure how well I’ll cope with being induced.

Massive congratulations @OrDis! Love the name as well x

MooseWL · 02/10/2020 17:46

@pangolin84 @margo34 i wouldn't get to stressed out about engagement, as it varies. At my appointment on the Tuesday the head wasn't engaged at all and then labour started on the Saturday. My bump never dropped either x

WillowT · 02/10/2020 18:37

Completely agree with @MooseWL...I was only 3/5 on Wed and little one arrives on Sat. Midwife has me all booked in expecting I wouldn't be that quick!

Even though you know they can still arrive, still took us by surprise when contractions started!!

Lazydaisydaydream · 02/10/2020 19:59

@OrDis congratulations!! Beautiful name.

Margo34 · 02/10/2020 21:46

@MooseWL and @WillowT hard not to get too stressed, it's the unknown-ness that's stressing me out more than all the little details I think, at least pre-due date there was a date in sight, even if it was likely to be not accurate! 🙈

I think I'm just impatient 😂 plus really want to know now if its a girl or a boy! 🤭

I'm going to switch off from mumsnet and social media for the weekend, give myself a brief detox and hope being more relaxed will work wonders

Good luck @pangolin84 and @NeuroMama, my fingers will be crossed for a successful weekend for all of us! 🤞
