@liquoricecravings they said I'd be going home evening! I thought it would be Saturday! Guess it's in and out lol

Roxy8203 · 10/09/2020 18:30

@ShiningStarz congratulations on your little lady 🥰

ShiningStarz · 10/09/2020 18:31

Correction *tomorrow evening!

glasha87 · 10/09/2020 18:34

@ShiningStarz, this evening? Are you happy to do so? Is the medication helping? That seems very soon but it also gives me some hope for Monday and being able to shorten the stay and get home. Huge congratulations again 💕💕

I’d love a gin! Or a mojito. A big giant mojito. I’ve been craving a mojito all pregnancy actually, which is obviously not ideal - and a bit strange given I very rarely drink 😂

I may as well have lived in a toilet this pregnancy.

Perhaps TMI, but has anyone seen an increase in their usual pregnancy discharge? Mines the same but more watery 🙈 Obviously a sign labour is imminent but how imminent 🙈

Appetite has also strangely decreased in the last day or so.

glasha87 · 10/09/2020 18:35

@ShiningStarz, I just saw your correction. I thought that was super early and probably nigh on impossible alright 🙈

ShiningStarz · 10/09/2020 18:38

@glasha87 initially they told me Saturday and then I just asked and they said tomorrow evening. As long as it's 24hrs after catheter was put in. It may change again tho. I'll not be leaving until I have the breastfeeding down to a T!!! There's so much support for everything whilst in hospital and I plan to take full
Advantage xx

glasha87 · 10/09/2020 18:44

@ShiningStarz, you’re absolutely right. Take full advantage and ensure you’re feeling as confident as possible when leaving there ❤️❤️

*and a prescription for strong painkillers!

Lilice · 10/09/2020 18:50

@glasha87 yes im having to wear pantyliners every day, i was even wondering if my waters had gone as that's what happened in my first pregnancy i was slowly leaking

Lilice · 10/09/2020 18:51

it's great you feel well supported at hospital. Can your OH visit much @ShiningStarz?

sianyflewog · 10/09/2020 20:58

@glasha87 @Lilice Same! In fact, I was in a public toilet with my 3 year old this afternoon and he announced very loudly ‘Oh mummy, I think you’ve done a wee in your pants’ 🙈😂 Out of the mouths of babes...!

Congratulations to you both @ShiningStarz @Sunshinexx95 on the safe arrival of your baby girls! Hope you’re all feeling & doing well xxx

Anyone know, do you have to wear a mask in labour and does your husband have to wear one if he’s with you?

Smilymami · 10/09/2020 22:30

Awww.. congratulations to @Sunshinexx95 and @ShiningStarz, I know the c-section was unplanned but all is well that ends well.. enjoy your lovely little girl.
@Emmy2020 I didn't have to wear a mask in labour and neither did my partner. It will be harsh of anyone to ask you to wear a mask in active labour when you are trying to get your breathing together.

HELP PLS!
Has any mum here suffered with breast engorgement? My milk came in 3 days ago and my breasts are so full, lumpy and painful. It's so uncomfortable. I had been expressing a lot to relieve the discomfort, but it fills up again very quickly. Baby is breastfeeding during the day and his dad feeds him expressed BM at night. I really don't want to give up on breastfeeding, but this is putting a toll on me ontop all the tiredness of having a newborn. A maternity support worker came today and advised me not to express anymore as when I do so, I am telling my body that it needs to make more milk. She says I should just feed baby directly and demand feeding of him very frequently. Im not sure about this advice. If I do not pump I'm so engorged and it's so painful and I could get mastitis. If I pump, perhaps this will just keep going on forever.

justanothermamma · 10/09/2020 23:16

@Smilymami I bought some heat pads from medela, it was something put in the microwave and I put it in my bra with a breast pad and it helped one boob go down while I expressed with another. X

Lorna198 · 10/09/2020 23:17

As far as I was told at Nct classes the more you use or express your Milk the more your body will supply so if you are expressing for the night feeds your body will automatically replace that milk ready and you won’t be using it as quick which is probably why it’s getting painful so yes the midwifes advice today was correct.
I have no experience of this though as I’m formula feeding. Hopefully another of our ladies can advise you from experience on here soon. I hope you get some relief from it soon @Smilymami

Lilice · 10/09/2020 23:26

@Emmy2020 i was told i won't have to wear a mask but my husband will

@Smilymami have you tried hand expressing just a little bit, just to relieve yourself but not necessarily to fill up a bottle? With my first baby i remember hand expressing in the shower when i was too engorged. Also remember, this is just a phase whilst your milk is coming in and the engorgement wont last.

Lilice · 10/09/2020 23:32

@sianyflewog 🤣 that made me laugh, toddlers have no filter 😂

Emmy2020 · 11/09/2020 03:14

@Smilymami @Lilice That’s good to know I won’t have to! As I wore one to my appointment the other day and felt like I was going to be sick or faint when I laid down with it on. Luckily they said I could keep it off but I felt ill for nearly the rest of the day. I’ll have to somehow find out from the hospital if I my husband will have to wear one.

sianyflewog · 11/09/2020 08:07

@Smilymami As the others have said it’s a supply and demand process, certainly for the first 6 weeks while your body works out how much milk it needs to be producing for your baby. It doesn’t last forever. If you express, especially in between feeds, it’s telling your body to make more. Please be assured that it does settle and fairly quickly -
You could try expressing just enough to relieve the engorgement. Pop a warm flannel over one breast while you feed from the other, and it will release some milk and relieve it. They also recommend cool cabbage leaves! I was told to feed baby every 3 hours which helped (even waking to feed in the early days), and after those first few days I was only really engorged if I went much longer (like in the night if he had a long stretch of sleep).

@Smilymami, I’d definitely echo the advice regarding demand feeding and not pumping for the first 4-6 weeks as it causes - as you’re experiencing - oversupply. Is there someone in your hospital you could speak to?

@sianyflewog 😂😂

@Lilice, I must say I was a little concerned it might be a slow leak, as it only change yesterday. Will keep an eye on it today.

Lilice · 11/09/2020 09:25

@glasha87 yes definitely keep an eye. It's so frustrating when you cant tell for sure. When it happened to me, I was definitely filling up pads. At the moment a panty liner is enough so im thinking it's probably just more discharge.

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/09/2020 10:09

@glasha87 if you are anywhere near an m&s food go and get some of their mojito flavour fruit juice.... Non alcoholic and absolutely gorgeous!!

Lazydaisydaydream · 11/09/2020 10:10

@Smilymami when you say your partner is doing bottles overnight...are you getting up and pumping while he feeds the baby? It might be that you are leaving it too long? But really the best thing to do would be to stop pumping for now and feed the baby on demand and at least every three hours to give your supply a chance to settle. I promise it won't last forever!!

MooseWL · 11/09/2020 12:27

My out of office is officially on 🤯🥳
Finally!!! Such a strange feeling.

Now to pack that bag... 😉

OrDis · 11/09/2020 12:57

Yay @MooseWL! Enjoy your leave!

Been for my midwife appt today. Fundal measurement has dropped from it’s curve a bit so been referred for a growth scan. Just waiting for them to let me know when, but probably won’t be till next week. Midwife did say it’s probably just because she’s a bit more engaged in my pelvis now. Fingers crossed thats all it is
