OK hopefully no-one else has started a new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mixedmama · 15/10/2007 13:04

Thanks for all your kind wishes guys. I am going to attemmpt to catch up after lunch... altho i suspect it may never happen.

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 13:55

beckle - I went to baby massage when dd was 6 weeks old - it was fun although I don't think the actual massgae bit did much but it was a nice time to meet some new mums and talk about all those boring things no-one else is interested in (colour of poo, nighttime feeds etc). Would def go again.

amani - glad you're feeling a bit better. A lot of these jobs are already decided but they have to advertise them for legal reasons - sounds like that might have happened to you?

Hi MM - looking forward to hearing about what you've been up to

Amani · 15/10/2007 14:12

Skid - yes am thinking that, think they were just going through the motions.

By the way, just ate a whole tub of chargrilled red pepper houmous instead of chocolate cake - yum yum!

becklespookle · 15/10/2007 14:12

That is my thought on the baby massage too Skidaddle, I don't know any other Mums with LO's due around when I am. Most of the Mums I know have older DCs so it will be nice to mix with and meet some with babies.

suey2 · 15/10/2007 14:13

beckle re new clothes- isn't that what the internet is for? Certainly keep you going in the interim

claraq · 15/10/2007 14:27

Good morning everyone. Lots to catch up on. Hope you all had "relaxing" weekends.

Claireybee - oh dear, your dd has reached that fatal age (and I have noticed that it all seems to be daughters we are having this problem with). Mine is also very attached to her wellies, which have strawberries on them, but I am increasingly having problems getting her dressed in the morning as she always wants to wear such inappropriate clothing. This morning we ended up with (Peppa Pig) socks over her tights as I could NOT be bothered to argue anymore. I have a feeling when we have the new baby she'll be going out in her pyjamas as it will save a lot of stress.

Skidaddle - uh uh you've given in to the Dora slippers...It had crossed my mind to do the same (although dd is determinded to call her Flora not Dora) but am now thinking she might end up wanting to wear them out so perhaps we'll stick with socks to keep her feet warm!
Btw I know what you mean about the childbirth threads - I have been on the VBAC ones a few times, am trying to find out whether it is not a good idea to have an epidural during a VBAC. But yes I'm with you - my thoughts are definitely turning more towards the birth (and aftermath) now.

Becklespookle - had the HV last week as she combined it with dd's 2-year check. Bit of a waste of time, she actually said to me "do you have any friends" - which I was slightly affronted by. I guess she could have worded it better - "have you managed to meet many other mums" etc.

Housemum - it's good to hear the right messages are getting out to the next generation. I also like the fact that there are lots of songs etc on CBeebies about recycling; doesn't make me feel so guilty when I use the tv to let me have a rest!

FINALLY (sorry for long post) Amani - sorry to hear about interview; however you did really well to get as far as you did and good on you for going for it while you were pregnant. You'll probably never know if your bump had anything to do with it but if you don't try....

claireybee · 15/10/2007 14:33

Yes both dd and I really enjoyed our baby groups and made lots of lasting friends there-would definitely recommend going (even if you don't like the sound of them to begin with-the thought of singing group for example made me cringe but dd absolutely loved it and it was actually quite good fun for me too!). The hv should have a list of which ones are free too which is a bonus!
One thing I hadn't considered having 2 children close together is that i won't be able to go to a lot of the groups-dd won't be able to go with me (cos people won't appreciate a toddler trampling on their newborns as the hv put it!) and is still too young to be left at playschool etc. The baby will be dragged along to dd's toddler groups though but it's a shame I won't be going to any baby specific ones.

claireybee · 15/10/2007 14:40

Am also guilty of visiting the childbirth forums, not sure it's a good thing as it's making me scared!

suey2 · 15/10/2007 14:42

really paid for my gargantuan appetite last night. Had a big lunch out and was still full in the evening. One baked spud later, and helllloooooooo- violently ill. Fortunately felt instantly better and then went straight to bed
serves me right for being such a gannet

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 14:59

oh dear suey2! Hope you're feeling better now?

claireybee - I know NCT don't mind you bringing toddlers along to baby groups although they are usually tiny babies who are just sleeping or feeding - but anyway your baby will love watching all the big toddlers running around playing at the toddler groups

Now this talk of songs reminds me - can anyone help me beause it's been driving me mad:
you know that song, Miss Polly had a dolly? What is the missing line:

Miss Polly had a dolly who was sick sick sick
So she called for the doctor to come quick quick quick
The doctor came with his bag and his hat
And he knocked on the door with a rat-a-tat-tat

The doctor looked and he shook his head
He said Miss Polly put her straight to bed
......
I'll be back in the morning with the bill bill bill

If anyone can help me I will be eternally grateful. DD loves it but gets really annoyed when I la-la-la it through the line I don't know

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 15:01

claraq - I knew getting the slippers was against my better judgement and I was right. Love the image of your dd with socks and tights on!! And strawberry wellies - where did you get those?

claraq · 15/10/2007 15:09

Skidd - the wellies were from Matalan, cost £2.50! But everyone keeps asking me where I got them from, someone even asked me the other day if they were from Cath Kitson. I should have lied and said yes! (mind you this being Cheltenham and the conversation taking place in Waitrose I got a perverse pleasure (err sorry grammer here rubbish) from telling the obviously rather upper-class lady that they were from Matalan and not some designer store...).

Fraid I don't know the Polly song but that line's got to have either ill ill ill or pill pill pill in it shurely?

Amani · 15/10/2007 15:11

ooohhh DD got the CD in my car, and must have listened to it lots of time......got me thinking now.....

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 15:19

ooh I love telling people things like that too claraq - the dress my dd wore to our wedding was 1.49 from a charity shop!! My dress was 2nd hand and so was dh's suit - we are very proud of that and we all looked terribly smart! Will look for those wellies in Matalan - I'm almost as into wellies as my dd

yes think it is pill but not sure what goes before... anyone?

mixedmama · 15/10/2007 15:23

Catching up was a futile task as I cant sit still in my chair as so uncomfy so have given up and just joining in from now.

Had burger king for lunch and it was horrible, and I dont even like burger king so having an unreasonable day.

On the plus side I got my filofax refills... so exiting - the things that make me happy.

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 15:25

Are you OK MM? What was wrong last week?

mixedmama · 15/10/2007 15:44

Just felt generally crap... had a few sickness episodes, no sleep and really exhausted. Did try to get online a few times, but everytime DH just wante dto look at cars. Thanks so much for being worried about me. You guys are so lovely.

macdoodle · 15/10/2007 15:51

He looked at the dolly and he shook his head
He said, 'Miss Polly put her straight to bed'
He wrote on a paper for a pill, pill, pill
'That'll make it better, yes it will, will, will'

Courtesy of DD age 6

claireybee · 15/10/2007 15:51

I think it is "He wrote on his paper for a pill pill pill" but toddler group often sings different versions of things to the ones I know so not 100%!

Hope this is a better week for you MM

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 16:04

Yeeaaahhh, thank you macdoodle and claireybee! I will go home and impress my dd with my newfound knowledge!

Poor you MM - are you feeling any better this week? And tell your DH that you looking at mn is MUCH more important than any car!!!

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 16:06

oh just noticed changes to the last line as well macdoodle - suppose the idea of coming round with a bill the following is a bit dated (i.e. before WWII!!)

claireybee · 15/10/2007 16:16

Oh yes, we sing the last line as "I'll be back in the morning yes I will will will" so yet more variation there!

Wizzska · 15/10/2007 17:05

Clairey - I'm scared of the childbirth forums too. I'm scared of giving birth - my bump is massive and it seems a little daunting. I was so happy when I made the decision to have a home birth. Now I think I want a general anasthetic!

MM - good to see you back.

Am stretching a lot today - really painful on the top of my bump.

buzzybee · 15/10/2007 17:50

Oh dear can't sleep. Combination of things going around in my head I suspect. Found myself counting back from my official due date to work out when might end up having induction etc - found myself at 1 Dec for some reason. Then realised my Mum is going overseas on 15 Nov for 2 weeks and she is my main support person....

Also very aware of not lying on my back. Yes its definitely left side you're supposed to lie on - but in my case wondering if its worth it now. Have this image of her swimming around in there like a little (4lb) fish!

Sorry to hear about the interview Amani. You must feel really upset now. I'd give it a couple of days and then think about giving them a call to get more feedback. Look after yourself, I know how down that can make you feel.
