Morning all!

Hope you all are well.

My, my you all have been so busy - so just skimmed read.

Interview went well on Friday, had usual questions which I had prepared for. Had two tests aswell, the general verbal reasoning I found a breeze, but the stats one a bit more of challenge. The only thing that concerned me was that there were a number of internal candidates that applied for the same job and they appeared to be quite friendly with the personnel staff supervising the whole thing and couldn't help think if they might have had a little bit of a heads up with the interview process. I've seen it happen in other organisations where internal staff are given a few "tips" prior to interviews being held for internal and external staff and surprise, surprise they have got the job! I find out today whether I have passed and got through to the second stage of interviewing, so we'll see.

Thank you to all you lovely ladies who wished me well.

Buzzy - hope you felt ok after your fainting episode and good news about your scan.

Ambi - Can I join the club? I'm getting bad heartburn too and downin glots of milk. Baby was having a party inside last night, so was sleeping on and off so feel a bit shattered this morning. Eggs and bacon in hospital?? When I was in last time, you had a choice between a small bowl of cereal or tiny roll for breakfast.

Good to hear MM is back, but sorry to hear you have been ill. Did you have a nice Eid?

Hello everyone else!

buzzybee · 15/10/2007 08:36

Hmmmm - well maybe spoke a bit too soon. The fantastic news is that there are no signs of "abnormalities" but the less good news is that my homebirth aspirations now look unlikely and in fact quite likely I will have an early birth, possibly induced or elective c-section. Reason is that pressure from large amounts of amniotic fluid can cause waters to break early and that can be quite dangerous and is occasionally associated with risk of haemarroging (sp?). The condition is called polyhydramnios - anyone heard of it or know someone that's had it? Probably also means another trip to see the hospital consultants . At this point I'm almost thinking elective c-section at about 38 weeks (if I can make it that far) looks appealing!

On the positive side explains why I've been feeling so huge and bloated and why the fundal height was measured at 30 weeks when I was 27 weeks. The MW compared it to having twins.

Hi Amani. Glad to heard interview went well. Internal candidates always have a bit of an advantage but I wouldn't worry too much about them - think positive!

OP posts:
suey2 · 15/10/2007 09:10

or a disadvantage! They can be as chatty as you like, but HR will know them warts and all. Good luck!

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 09:41

Morning all

Yeeeahhhhh MM - so pleased you are back and everything is OK (I hope)

happy Eid - MM and amani - hope you had fun

amani - great the interview went well and fingers crossed for today

workingmummy - I felt a huge movement the other day which I also thought was the baby turning head down - will find out on Thurs if I am right. Movements also keeping me up at night - hardly had any sleep at all last night and eyes feel like someone has sandpapered the inside of my eyelids...

buzzy - sorry to hear about your homebirth although great that the scan showed everything looks fine.

Re: DH being at birth - my DH wouldn't consider not being there although to be completely honest I have wondered about him not being there. He actually annoyed me quite a bit last time with his cheering me on and repeating everything the midwife said to me in an extra cheery voice! I almost think I might get on better by myself as he is a real, 'women do it everyday' type which makes me feel like I have to be superwoman (which I am blatantly not). He also likes to be down business end and finds the blood and gore really fascinating But I would never deny him the chance to see his child being born so I will just have to lump it and hope he keeps the cheering to a minimum this time!!

did anyone watch that progamme 'beautiful young minds' on BBC2 last night? Nothing to do with babies but I thought it was absolutely brilliant

insywinsyspider · 15/10/2007 09:54

skiddale - was the beautiful young minds prog about maths? there was a prog on after top gear and I realised I needed to do the ironing but I only half watched it - was interesting tho
lol about your dh wanting to see blood and gore - my dh is def squemish, I wanted to see placenta (morbid fasination) and he decided it was a good time to repack my labour bag and look really busy in the corner of the room!

amani - fingers crossed about getting through to second stage - when are you likely to hear?

buzzy - great news about scan but not so good about homebirth, I'm afraid I've never heard of polyhydramnios, hope someone else can help (remember an internet search will always throw up worst case horror story!)

I can also join in with huge amount of movement - I seem to be getting kicks out the front - anyone remember which side I'm supposed to be sleeping on? last time NCT lady said baby should lie on one side to be in ideal position - I think this one is back to back at mo... hopefully mw will tell me at next app

Amani · 15/10/2007 10:03

cheers suey2, skid and insy - find out today. Not nervous, just curious to see how well I do on the tests.

I defo want my DH at the birth, he was quite good last time, demanding a fan as I felt so hot during the whole labour stage. Plus I needed a hand to squeeze with each contraction (he had nail marking all over his hands after the whole birth process!), which gave me something to focus on other than the pain.

Buzzy - sorry - don't know anything about polyhydramnios - defo speal to your m/w for further info.

Amani · 15/10/2007 10:07

Thanks skid - Eid was good with the family. Realised that my DD might be the rebel of the family .

We have are 3 children of DD age in the family and she was the ring-leader getting the others to tear wallpaper off the wall!

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 10:13

good on your DD amani - a bit of spirit is always good!

insy - think it is the left side you're supposed to lie on
yes that was it after Top Gear about mathematicians - so sweet at the end

My DH loves making jokes about how I nearly broke his fingers, scratched his eyes out etc during labour - yes your poor thing, I just had another human being rip through my flesh, must have been so sore having your poor little fingers squeezed

Amani · 15/10/2007 11:01

Just found out I didn't make it to the to the second stage

test results were good, so I assume it was the interview. Bet those internal candidates got through....

claireybee · 15/10/2007 11:08

Morning all.
A little while ago some of you were saying how your toddlers are attached to certain items and I remember thinking dd wasn't quite there yet. Well now she is obsessed with her wellies and insists on wearing them all the time! We don't normally wear shoes in the house but she is able to put her wellies on herself so there is no stopping her-did try hiding them but she just walked around looking for them and wingeing so I'm afraid I gave in! She hasn't quite got to the stage of wanting to wear them to bed yet luckily!
She has also just learnt to climb onto the dining chairs which is rather worrying-lots of bumps and bruises coming i think!

RE DH there during labour, I wasn't sure I'd want dh there and he wasn't too keen but felt like it was his duty to be there. Through the first stage he just sat there looking bored and awkward, not knowing what he could do but during the second stage he rubbed my back really hard through contractions (was the only thing that worked to relieve them seeing as gas and air scared me and i didnt want pethadine etc) and then was down at the bottom end watching dd come out. When the midwife offered him the chance to catch dd as she came out he jumped at it and then practically wrestled her out of the way to cut the cord! I never thought he'd be so into it!

Buzzy, sorry you won't get your homebirth but a hospital birth can be just as low key and friendly-I had the same midwife throughout labour and she made me really relaxed about the whole thing and completely followed my wishes. Had a six hour discharge and have asked for same again as I really felt it gave me the best of both worlds-get all the mess of labour/birth over with in hospital then get baby straight back home.

claireybee · 15/10/2007 11:09

X post Amani-sorry to hear that

Amani · 15/10/2007 11:11

Arrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Think I am going to cry now

Bet they looked at my bump and judge me according to that.

Off to buy myself a family size chocolate gateau for lunch....

insywinsyspider · 15/10/2007 11:49

sorry to hear about job amani - think chocolate is a good strategy, try and be fatalistic about it hon, there is the perfect job out there for you

skiddale - thanks for answering, been sleeping on my right so dh doesn't have pillows in his back but going to have to switch tonight, also loads more swimming is in order and PELVIC FLOOR everyone

fifisworld · 15/10/2007 11:49

Amani, you go and treat yourself to something nice.
Im having a treat day as well today, i feel really down and ive got no idea why. Just wish that it was time for this baby to be coming out.

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 11:51

oh no, amani - I'm really sorry - especially as you did so well in the tests - did they give you any feedback? How annoying that you can't know if it was bump-related - can you ask them why - if it was bump-related they will have to think of something pretty fast

Get yourself a big huge cake and rant for all you're worth on here (((hugs)))

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 11:55

clairybee - oh yes sounds just like my dd. I bought her some (vile IMO but she loves them) Dora slippers yesterday and when i had to take them off her in the shop so the sales assisstant could scan them she screamed the place down - thought she was going to explode!

Then she sat in her buggy the whole of the afternoon (she is normally never in it) because I told he she would have to put her shoes on if she wanted to get out. She wore them all evening, in bed, for breakfast this morning and as I was leaving DH was trying to persuade her to take them off to go to nursery - good luck to him

suey2 · 15/10/2007 12:13

I would call them amani. It may be that they did like you, but wanted someone to start earlier than you would have been able to. It is always best to get feedback IME, then if it isn't that, you know what you have to work on.
good luck

becklespookle · 15/10/2007 12:19

Hi guys!
Buzzy - so glad your LO's kidneys are fine - phew! Sorry you now have a new worry though, I know early induction or c-section is not ideal but as long as baby arrives safetly that is all that matters.
Amani - sorry you didn't get through to the second stage , hope chocs and cake cheer you up a bit hun.
Mixedmama - glad you are okay although sorry you were feeling rough last week. You had us worried!

My DH was at both DSs births and although I am glad he was I would not be put out if he hadn't wanted to be there. He is very squeamish!
Went and saw my friend's newborn on Saturday - he looks so tiny! He was quite a big baby too, just under 9lbs. I finally went and bought some stuff for this LO yesterday too. I got a new mattress for the cot, ordered my carseat and bought some little sleepsuits (in cream). I am really unsure what to do about clothing for baby. Firstly I don't want to buy loads of neutral stuff as once baby is here I will go and get some blue/pink stuff. Secondly I didn't know what size to buy! Newborn stuff seems to go up to either 10 or 11lbs but my boys were both over 9lbs and DS1 was only in newborn for a couple of weeks (DS2 only for a couple of days), on the otherhand if this baby is a little smaller (ha!) I don't want it in massive baggy babygrows! In the end I bought one pack of newborn and one of 0-3 months - will have to get some more stuff as soon as baby is here - hopefully s/he won't be born on a day when there are no shops open!

claireybee · 15/10/2007 12:19

LOL Skidaddle, noone warns you just how determined a little person can be-I used to think a lot of it was down to parenting...but then i had dd and realised they come out with a fully formed personality!
Enjoy the cake Amani, you deserve it xx

becklespookle · 15/10/2007 12:40

Can't wait for maternity leave now! (7 weeks and counting) There is a new girl starting in a couple of weeks which should take some of the pressure off of me as I have been doing my job and bits of hers too. Although it is working from home it gives me no time for anything else and I am getting very stiff sitting in front of the computer all day! Had a visit from the Health Visitor last week and she told me off as she said I am doing too much, scared me a bit as she told me I could end up having the baby early if I didn't start getting a bit more rest.

Anyone else had a HV do a home visit yet? She was lovely but they have loads of questions they ask about your childhood and family situations etc! Glad she is nicer than the old witch I had with DS2 - I used to avoid her like the plague! They offer a 4 week baby-massage course in my area (all free) for after LO is here so I have said I would like to do that. Apparently it is really beneficial to baby and it sounds to me like a really lovely way to bond with LO.

Housemum · 15/10/2007 12:45

Beckle - you could always buy some more stuff at the last minute - say 2 weeks before due, as most places give you 28 days to return. Keep them in bags with receipt, then take back what you don't need.

Amani - sorry about the job - you never know, perhaps it was meant to be and there'll be something better next year, things have a funny way of working out.

Claireybee - your DD would love to be at my DD2's school today - they're having a Welly Day (charity fundraiser - "give poverty the boot"). DD had to decorate a welly for a competition, mums and dads had a welly-throwing contest. DD is very into her charity awareness at the mo thanks to Charlie and Lola - she looks out for the Fairtrade logo in the supermarket "so people get proper money for the things they grow".

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 12:47

beckle - I've been having the newborn/0-3 month dilemma as well. 0-3 are huge at the beginning and it would be nice to have a few things that actually fit him when he is first born. I'm expecting to have a big baby as well so it does seem silly spending money on clothes for a couple of weeks but I'm going to do it anyway!!

claireybee - I know - both me and DH were apparently really compliant little toddlers (I am quite a compliant grown-up too!) so I used to always wonder where my dd got it from - but of course as you say she is her own person and that is what she's like!

Has everyone started looking at the childbirth forum a lot more recently? I've noticed quite a few messages from lots of you there - I've found myself increasingly interested in epidurals, episiotomies etc and less interested in pg symtoms - must mean we're almost there...

skidaddle · 15/10/2007 12:53

lol at your ethically-aware DD housemum! People are always taking the mick out of me trying to make my dd ethically-conscious at age (nearly) 2 but glad to see it can kick in so young...

Amani · 15/10/2007 13:02

Thanks guys feeling better now. Believe in whatever is meant to be, will be. I did ask for feed back got the results of my test but nobody was available for comment regarding interview outcome. I was so upset I forgot to leave number to ask someone to call me back. I don't think I will bother now...

Skid - your DD sounds like mine, but substitute the Dora slippers for a Thomas bath toy; could not get it off her for the sales assistant to scan.

Beckle- I considered taking DD to baby massage classes after she was born - but never got around to doing it. It's supposed to be quite relaxing though.

Am training up my maternity cover at the moment - it's so time consuming and am falling a little behind with things (doesn't help that I have a slight MN addicition!)
