Skidaddle - what do you lecture on? All sounds very grown-up!!!

Amani · 04/10/2007 14:00

Hello everyone!!!

The sun is out and am stuck in this awful office today.

Somebody say something/do something to make the afternoon more bearable...???

suey2 · 04/10/2007 14:03

skidadd i admire you. Speaking to groups of people is my personal room 101. Always have anxiety nightmares about doing it naked!

mixedmama · 04/10/2007 14:53

Amani - good luck for your interview tomorrow.

Cressida1979 · 04/10/2007 15:20

It is a relief to hear that people are having the same problems as me, mainly: having a snoring partner on top of not being able to get comfy in bed (as soon as our sofabed arrives I'm going to send him to sleep in the lounge, I need some kip!); feeling sick again, I thought I was over all that!! So, big empathetic sympathy from here to all in the same boat as me.

Amani · 04/10/2007 15:29

thank you MM. not feeling nervous as yet, but we'll see how I am tomorrow!!

mixedmama · 04/10/2007 15:33

is it i the morning... much better a s you dont get time for the nerves.

becklespookle · 04/10/2007 15:58

Sorry to come on just to moan but my ankle has gradually swollen up again throughout the day despite not doing anything much so I phoned MW (it really is huge and the other ankle is fine). She said put it up and if it is still swelling up on Monday come back - she was really offhand about it all, no advice on how to make it more comfy or why only one ankle has swollen.

Sorry again, rant over.

Amani · 04/10/2007 15:59

Yes first thing tomorrow.
Right off home now - fed up!

Wizzska · 04/10/2007 16:11

Beckle - I had puffy feet, ankles and legs a couple of weeks ago. One was much bigger than the other. Midwives didn't seem to bother about it much, they checked my urine at my appointment and my BP weren't too fussed about my feet. It feels really uncomfortable, I put my feet up whenever possible and slept in flight socks. It went away eventually, but comes back if I do a lot of trudging round the shops.

suey2 · 04/10/2007 16:11

go0 to the doctor beckle. Doesn't sound good, particularly as one sided. Your flight socks don't end at the knee do they? if so, stop wearing them. NOW

Wizzska · 04/10/2007 16:35

Oh dear, am I damaging myself with my flight socks. Only following instructions from midwife.

claireybee · 04/10/2007 16:56

DH is sleeping in the sitting room. Did when i was pregnant with dd too-we both get more sleep that way.

suey2 · 04/10/2007 17:17

Wizzka it is just that i read somewhere that in PG they shouldn't end at the knee- could be complete cobblers, but i would always err on the side of caution until seeing the doc. The up to the knee ones may be ok for prevention, but if there is a DVT the top of the sock could act like a tourniquet. Not my field of expertise, though i grant you.

Wizzska · 04/10/2007 17:36

Suey - I read the packet which was covered in warnings about DVT and advice for pg women. Can't remember the details, but the socks came up to just below the knee on me and it seemed to fit with instructions so hopefully they're ok. They did help get the puffiness down a bit.

thelady · 04/10/2007 17:59

Thank you all for your sympathy/encouragement last night. I've had a better day today

The bad news is the midwife has given me some truly lovely anti-thrombosis stockings to try. White things that strap around your waist, no less - going to be interesting to see how I manage that with the shape I am now .

And, I've still got glucose in my pee so am off to the diabetes clinic on Tuesday. Botheration.

My midwife was worriedabout the swelling because it didn't go down when I put my feet up. That seems to be the cut-off for them in terms of intervention. Resting wasn't helping at all for me - feet still looked like sausages first thing in the morning. We've tried proper support stockings, but they won't stay up, and she and the physio are very anti knee-highs as you can end up with blood pooling just above the knee.

Good luck with the interview Amani!

claraq · 04/10/2007 18:24

Claireybee and Cressida - yes my DH also in another room (we still have a spare room - for now!), I couldn't sleep at all if we were still in the same bed. His snoring, my constantly trying to get comfortable - I don't think either of us would be happy. I do wonder whether it will be easy to go back to the same bed once the baby arrives though...

Good luck tomorrow Amani. Am really interested to hear what they say about your being pregnant.

macdoodle · 04/10/2007 18:30

Wizz don't panic but as a medical person, I would want to have a look at your leg ....single sided marked leg swelling CAN be a DVT and in pregnancy risk s 10 fold...midwives are excellent for normal childbirth and pregnancy but not brill for medical problems...TBH I would ring the out of hours doc tonight or if no luck see your own GP in morning ...please for my piece of mind ...

becklespookle · 04/10/2007 19:16

The support socks I have are below the knee ones, I was prescribed them by the Doctor! They are not flight socks though. Only supposed to be on the leg I have VVs on but I did have them looked at and they are definitely VVs! Have noticed since wearing the sock that although VVs not sore anymore, I have a couple of new ones by my knee. Have been wondering whether thigh high ones would be better? Or maybe even full tights (might give the 'other' VVs a bit of support too then).
MW wasn't concerned about swelling on one side as it went down overnight and there is no redness. Swelling goes down a lot when have foot up too. I am going to try and get in at the docs tomorrow if I can though as I am not filled with confidence at the MW service offered here.
I worry a lot about DVT and stuff like that Macdoodle as my family have thick blood which clots easily, DVT is often a problem for them once they get past 60. Bit stuck tonight though as DH gone out and DS2 is running a temp but I promise I will phone docs first thing in the morning and try to get an appt.

becklespookle · 04/10/2007 19:17

And good luck for tomorrow Amani! Hope interview goes well!

Amani · 04/10/2007 21:11

Many thanks to you lovely ladies for wishing me well, but I have a confession to make..., in my pregnant and also sleep deprived mushy brain phase, I re-read the letter this evening and the interview is next Friday .

Whooooppppsssss... well thank goodness I did check- now I have to cancel my day off tomorrow and re-book for Friday. Will have to think of an excuse to say why I am back in at work tomorrow.

Beckle - your m/w sounds rubbish - can you go and see the GP.

Amani · 04/10/2007 21:12

Trust me to do something lke that....

Loucee · 04/10/2007 21:44

Evening ladies

Beckle - hope you're ok, how's the swelling now?

Amani - lol, bless you - don't worry, more time to get more good lucks!

Here's something to try out for those of you who know what sex your baby is. Looking at your feet from a sitting position, just past your ankle bones near the arch of your feet do you see a slight bump? If you do, is it bigger on your left foot or your right foot? Apparently this is used in reflexology and can tell you the sex of your baby. I'm interested to know if it's accurate for all you who know what flavour you're having.

macdoodle · 04/10/2007 21:46

Sorry beckle mixed you up with wizz too many posts speak to your GP tomorrow should be easy for them to have a look and if worried easy enought to arrange a scan to check....and don't worry DVT not end of the world at all eaily treatable but important to know

Caz10 · 04/10/2007 22:02

Good luck with the interview for next week then, ooops! That is the sort of thing I do all the time.
Sorry to hear re all the leg traumas. My aches and pains seem to be centred round the lower back, pelvis, etc. Feel like a little old lady hobbling about sometimes. But I know it could be much worse so not complaining (too much!).

How are people doing on buying things? I feel so unprepared but just haven't got the time at the moment, work is taking up every evening and most of the weekend, and when I'm done I'm always too pooped to think about going to the shops. Printed out thelady's big lists, but have NOTHING ticked off! Oh tell a lie, we have car seat, so at least LO can come home from the hospital!

Really struggling re sleeping arrangments though - what to go for? Could I do a straw poll re moses baskets/cots etc? What are you guys doing?

Ok time for sleep!! Hope everyone is well!
