Caz10, last time we used the carrycot for DD's bed until she was about 6wks old then she went into her cot. This time round i'm using a moses basket right next to my bed as I found it too sore/more tiring to get out of bed down to the chest of drawers which had the carrycot on to bring DD back to bed to feed her to then get up again to put her back.
Personally I think anything right next to your bed will be great. If you're planning to breastfeed you'll be glad of having the baby close to you. Having said that, at 6wks we moved DD because we were creeping round like loonies not to wake her and she often woke us up with coughs and splutters.

workingmummy · 04/10/2007 22:26

Hello everyone! Can i join you please if it's not too late to do so? I have to admit I have been lurking on here for a while... I am expecting dd on Boxing Day and have got lots of the aches and pains that others are referring to... plus feel the size of a house compared to my preious pregancy!
Macdoodle, I am based in Cardiff (well Penarth!) too... where is the Bravissimo going to be?

macdoodle · 04/10/2007 22:33

workingmummy · 04/10/2007 22:57

Macdoodle, think I'm breaking MN rules already - hijacking thread ! How do I contact you offline?

Looking forward to sharing the last few weeks (well, 12 and counting) of being pg with everyone...

thelady · 04/10/2007 23:03

Umm - I have the lists.... I've started ordering stuff online as that's my only option here, and tbh it's making it a lot easier too.

macdoodle · 04/10/2007 23:22

Sorry for hijack girls have sent you a CAT workingmummy

Bouncingturtle · 05/10/2007 07:04

Morning everyone!
Amani - you were expecting a delivery today, when you got home yesterday you got an apologetic answering machine message telling you they had to cancel and wouold next Friday be okay?
My Dh says baby brains are supposed to disappear after week 15 - I've no idea where he read that! But speaking to friends who have recently had babies it continues after the baby is born!!

skidaddle · 05/10/2007 07:50

bouncing - I actually read a study recently that found that pg women's processing speed and cognitive abilities were as good if not better than non-pg women's in a proper controlled expt. However, anecdotal evidence doesn't seem to support that I'll give you...

beckle - have you been to the doc yet? Hope everything is OK. Yur mw sounds awful beyond belief!

Caz10 - I think we might try (shock, gasp) co-sleeping and see how that goes. We will probably put the mattress on the floor and I will be between dh and the baby because he is a very deep sleeper and that would worry me. If that doesn't seem to be working for us, we will have him in a moses basket next to the bed for easy access etc.

claraq - I lecture on developmental psychology but only now and again as I am still a (PhD) student myself. You're right it does sound grown-up and i really really don't feel it which is what makes it so scary!

amani - LOL, I was getting ready to ask you how it went and then read your message that it was next Friday! All the more time to prepare..

Went out yesterday and bought some BIG pants (DH is appalled by them ) and some maternity pads - can't think of anything else I need to buy - is there anything? In the books it says all these ridiculous things like talcum powder, eau de cologne, crosswords... eh?

suey2 · 05/10/2007 07:56

turtle i have never been as absentminded as I have been for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Losing keys, forgetting to lock the car, yesterday i put some fresh mango in the bin and the container in the fridge etc.....
I was ok until i stopped being able to sleep!
Good luck with the doc's today beckle- sorry for being a bully! My swelling is a lot better now it is colder, but TBH i would be going for full support tights if anything if I was still as swollen.

Amani · 05/10/2007 08:13

Morning all
Hope you ladies are well on this grey cold day!

Caz10- went to Morrisons last night and went a bit mad on the nappies they have on offer there. Bought mostly Huggies one (you get more for your money), but Morrison own branded ones were about a £1 (!), so bought a couple of those to try aswell. It says on the packet as good as the leading brand.

Bouncingturtle - lol, no I thought I had a job interview today, but my pregnant brain (might as well use it an excuse!) got the dates wrong. It's next Friday!

Skid - your job sounds interesting. I'm going to university next month for a very interesting conference on 'Diversity in Action', where the main speakers are a mixture of PHD students and somes leaders in that field.

Hi workingmummy - welcome!

Right back to training my maternity cover.....

Loucee · 05/10/2007 08:25

Morning!

Welcome workingmummy better late than never

So, can everyone who knows what sex baby they're having take a look at their feet and tell me if they have slight bump on either foot when they're looking straigh down at their feet from a sitting position? Should be just past the ankle bone.

Has everyone joined the Tescos Baby club? If you can get to a shop then it's worth doing, the first lot of vouchers they send you gives you over 1200 points if you combine them all and I found most of the nappies/wipes were either half price or buy one get one free so got really good value.

Yay it's Friday and the weekend.
Decided to book DH and I inot a really swish restaurant in Glasgow tomorrow night, I'm really looking forward to it but... the usual dilemma - I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!!!

suey2 · 05/10/2007 08:31

accessories dahling!

Amani · 05/10/2007 08:41

Loucee - don't have bump - what does that mean??

Have a lovely time at the resturant!

suey2 · 05/10/2007 09:04

i think it is the tubercle of navicular see here

skidaddle · 05/10/2007 09:28

loucee - just for you (took my sock off and everything) if there's a bump it's on my left foot but am not convinved that there is one (and I'm having a boy)

amani - no bump must mean you're having a hermaphrodite - is that right loucee

Wizzska · 05/10/2007 09:52

Suey, bless you for worrying about my big feet! Thank goodness they're back to normal now. If it happens again, I'll go to the docs quick smart - especially if they're bigger on one side.

I had a good (ish) sleep last night. Feel like a new person today. Looking forward to a really lazy weekend.

Welcome Workingmummy.

Amani - good luck for next Friday then! You'll have to get all psyched up again next week.

suey2 · 05/10/2007 10:06

workingmummy welcome! Slightly at bravissimo meet up.
Bony points- now here is something I DO know about. If you put your thumb just below you ankle bone, and roll down towards your big toe, you should find the tubercle of navicular. On some people it is very prominent, some you cannot see on the surface without palpating.nIf in any doubt, flatten the fot and arch and it should become more/ less prominent as you do so.
Loucee mine is more prominent on the right side

Wizzska · 05/10/2007 10:11

I know a great way of finding if you're having a boy or a girl - you go to the hospital and get a scan . They didn't pay much attention to my feet though.

Wizzska · 05/10/2007 10:12

I must visit Bravissimo today. Have only one bra left that fits, and that's getting too small and one of the underwires is coming out. What a state I'm in.

Lizzer · 05/10/2007 10:16

Hello, its friday hooray!!!!!!!

Ooo Insy, thanks for that link for the slings - just what I needed

Getting the WORST leg cramps in the middle of the night, anyone got any advice? Feels like I've done loads of calf exercises as it spasms for about 5 minutes. OWWWW!!!

Also I have a COLD SORE, NEVER had one in my LIFE.. Is this a pg thing too??? Anyone else suffering from weird things like this?

(As you can tell I'm in such a good mood this morn - not!)
