I'm being induced at week 38 with two sweeps booked in fir week 37.
I'm currently 34+5. Trying to avoid horror stories about induction.
I'm having rods which is a 'new' way of doing it....
Am hoping PBC preparation helps!

ChipsAreLife · 30/07/2020 09:15

@Lazydaisydaydream brilliant! When I had mine done I came out and my old headmaster was sat in the waiting room. "Hello he said, how are you doing?" In my head I was thinking 'well just got fisted by the midwife so been better' 🤣🤣🤣

@ShiningStarz hopefully they can do one for you 🤞 it all depends on your cervix.

@Lorna198 ah well done. Get some massive pants in case you have a section. You don't want anything sat near your scar as it's very tender and sore for a couple of weeks. I got proper granny pants in size 2 sizes bigger.

@Laura1348 bless you. I think like everything you always hear the negative stories and not the good. The straight forward ones don't make for an interesting read! I know lots of people who've had really positive inductions. All I would say is that they're different in the sense of contractions can start quickly and be stronger sooner than you would get with a natural build up. I've got everything crossed it goes smoothly. And eeeeekkkk you don't have long to go 🥰

Definitely get your pants in @Lorna198, though hopefully you won’t need them for a good few weeks yet. My massive post section pants were a size 16-18 last time round, I’m normally an 8-10! I was in the shower the morning after my boy was born, and my husband came to help me move, undress, redress and he was holding them up asking why I’d bought some ships sails with me. I learned that laughing is the most painful thing that you can do after a section 😂

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 10:21

@ChipsAreLife
Thanks
🤞 all goes well!

Lilice · 30/07/2020 10:30

@Laura1348 I've got a couple of friends and my sister who were induced and had very straightforward births. I think people talk more when things go wrong.

I also need to get granny pants in case my vbac doesn't work out. There's so much to remember, I should really write a list.
@sianyflewog i had a cough with my last c section, that was a killer 🥴

Lilice · 30/07/2020 10:33

Is anyone going to take avantage of the eat out to help out scheme? Unfortunately it doesn't work with take aways. I am still tempted but on the other hand the news arr scaring me at the moment

CNovittBolden · 30/07/2020 10:42

Had a huge nosebleed this morning. Started out of nowhere. Went everywhere! Over my chest, down my legs, up my arms. Was like a tap turned on and it was literally dripping out.

Has anyone had this lovely pregnancy side affect too?

sianyflewog · 30/07/2020 10:48

Ooooh @Lilice I can imagine!

I have booked to go for lunch in the village pub next week, but I feel like it won’t be especially busy at lunch time 🤞🏻 I can understand your cautiousness though - my sister in law works for Office of National Statistics and has been working on COVID stats, and her leave has all been blocked through the autumn & winter as they expect the second wave and for it to be worse!

Tonight I’m having a socially distanced chip shop picnic with the girls - haven’t seen them since before lockdown, and certainly since before they found out I’m pregnant so very excited for that!

Lilice · 30/07/2020 11:01

@CNovittBolden my nose is very dry in the morning and bleeds a bit when I blow it, but i sleep with the fan on so that might be why.

Lilice · 30/07/2020 11:04

@sianyflewog it all sounds so scary. Maybe it's best to go now before the second wave hits. The scheme starts in the 3rd.
Have a lovely time with your friends tonight 🙂

Lilice · 30/07/2020 11:05

@Lorna198 have you got a name ready?

MooseWL · 30/07/2020 11:16

@Lorna198 fingers crossed everything is okay for you tomorrow!

@lilice I'm going out for lunch for the first time at the weekend and I'm so excited! And in my week off in August prob will take advantage of the scheme, I really miss eating out and so sick of cooking! I think now is a good time to do it as long as you're sensible about distancing.

@laura1348 i think at the moment a lot of the negativity around inductions is to do with partners not being allowed to be there so having to potentially be in hospital on your own for a bit. Who knows what the rules will be in September!

@CNovittBolden oh poor you that sounds horrible!

MooseWL · 30/07/2020 11:19

@sara7455 how are you and Wren doing?

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 12:10

@MooseWL
Thanks- I know. Well apparently with these rods when I go back into hospital he can be with me the whole time so well chuffed!
That is of course if things don't change- again!!🤞🤞🤞

ChipsAreLife · 30/07/2020 12:33

I'm intrigued on the rods @Laura1348 what are they?!

@sianyflewog lol at your pants. Much needed and god the laughing, most painful thing ever!

@Lilice think we will def be going out for food be good for the kids to get out a bit too. Got some lovely places near us doing it with outdoor areas so will prob do that and will do some cheeky evenings on our own!

I've got so much pressure in my vagina today, it's bloody awful. Feel like baby is going drop out any minute! I've also had period style cramps on and off so now thinking of early labour which I doubt will happen! Anyway it's given me a kick up the arse and teamed with this glorious weather I've just washed all my white baby clothes 🥳🥳🥳

Smilymami · 30/07/2020 12:51

Hi ladies,
My recent growth scan showed babys head is at the 97th centile and out of the charts now. In all my previous scans it has always been large but has stayed within the centiles. I was called into the hospital to have my diabetes blood test repeated as this could be responsible .. I had it done at 28wks and it was ok. They have refused to do the OGT instead. I know the blood tests can miss some people.
My DH and I both have pretty large heads though, so I am hoping this is just hereditary and not a real problem.
I am freaking out thinking about how that big head is going to come out of me. If it's off the charts at 34wks and baby is still growing, then surely it will be humongous by 40weeks. Has anyone delivered a large head baby vaginally before? Was it traumatic? Should I request a C-section? I'm also scared about post-op recovery

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 13:06

@ChipsAreLife
They insert 3-5 rods into the cervix. They then expand up to 14mm over 12 hours. (They get put in and you go home).
When they grow they dilate and soften cervix fir labour.

Non hormonal.
Can stay there for up to 24 hours

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 13:08

@ChipsAreLife this may help- only the first page! Can send more if you want.

@Lilice I've been out twice now and I've felt reassured by the measures the restaurants had in place. I'm not deliberately planning to head out in August but if we do it will be in the village where I live and not into the town and somewhere I fell is taking safety seriously.

@CNovittBolden I've had a couple of nosebleeds, usually first thing in the morning but not as much as yours by the sounds of it! Hope you're feeling ok now.

All this talk of big pants has got me thinking...I'm definitely having a section and I've already bought some size 14-16 giant cotton pants from M&S but what do you all think of these...?

They are v pricey but the reviews are good.

Roxy8203 · 30/07/2020 13:24

I went out for lunch with my parents last weekend. There was sanitizer at the door and on every table and our temperature was taken before entering (no idea how mine didn't trigger it as I'm so hot at the moment) the tables were well spaced out and the waiting staff were very good.

LatteLover12 · 30/07/2020 13:25

Agh! Posted too soon!

My over the bump leggings arrived from Boohoo yesterday and I have to say I'm quite pleased with them! They were only £7 in the sale, they're a decent fit & they're not see through! I also got a bat wing style top for a fiver (good for breastfeeding in) and some 'lounge' pants.

At this point I'm willing to wear anything that's not my circulation stopping maternity jeans! 😂

Seeing people start to talk about birth plans and inductions makes me realise there are going to be actual babies soon. OMG 😂

Thinking of you and Wren @Sara7455 I hope all is well xx

Sara7455 · 30/07/2020 14:01

@sianyflewog pants story just made me laugh out loud but it’s true they’re so necessary!

@MooseWL we’re good thank you. Doctors are starting to make plans for letting us bring him home which seems incredible but I’m very excited about it!

What have people with small babies done about their sleeping clothes in the past? I’ve just realised sleeping bags are no good under 8.5lbs and he’s still only 4.5lbs so not even close and I don’t think he’ll enjoy being swaddled as he’s not used to it and sleeps with his hands up at the moment. Are there any blankets people recommend for newborns?

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 14:14

@Sara7455
Great news that plans are in place.
I've got a gro swaddle and I think they can be used from 5lb?
This is all I have ready for sleep time so I hope they work and he likes them!
Good luck.
X

Sara7455 · 30/07/2020 14:22

@Laura1348 the nurse says if they’re swaddled from birth they’re usually perfectly happy with it so I’m sure you’ll be fine. Problem I’m having is he’ll be 7/8 weeks old when I bring him home and already flat refuses to keep his hands down under blankets in hospital so might get cross about being swaddled. Thinking about the SwaddleUp as an option instead so he can stick with his arms up approach.

@LatteLover12 I just went with giant m&s pants and over the bump leggings while I was recovering from the c-section and that’s how I was comfiest. The m&s ones did the job just fine without getting special pants tbh.

Laura1348 · 30/07/2020 15:17

@Sara7455
Ahh I see. Sorry.
Good luck
