I started to pack my bag today too, but since at the moment I’m likely to be having a section (breech baby) and that means almost a week stay in hospital for both me and husband and I think I need to switch to a full size suitcase rather than a carry on size...

Baby is currently trying to break through the front of my belly so perhaps I won’t need a section or to give birth at all, she’ll be forcing her own way out at this rate. Anyone else’s baby this strong? I really don’t know how she doesn’t rupture the sac. Or my skin.

Magpie21 · 26/05/2020 13:41

@MissisBee the main thing is that the baby is safe and that you feel happy. There is nothing worse then the worry! Honestly, I had no idea keeping track of baby kicks would be such a big part of pregnancy!

Love all the bump pics! They all look lovely! I'm carrying high and can balance things on my bump now he he.

@UKtoSK I also feel so lucky to be on the group. I think I check this feed more than anything else on my phone these days! I came across it by total chance at the beginning of my pregnancy and I would recommend it to any of my friends in the future. X

SearchingTheSkies · 26/05/2020 14:05

@newbyxx Glad you've got a plan sorted. Sounds very reassuring.

@UKtoSK Loving the pillow mountain! My right hip is still quite sore so may have to try something similar.

Everyone's bump pics look lovely!

I've started sorting through all the baby bits I've been accumulating and trying to get final things ordered. I've not packed a bag yet as it still feels a little early at 35+4, but won't leave it much longer.

BirdGarden · 26/05/2020 14:16

I've been really lucky with no concerns about this one's movements, because they never. stop. moving. My daughter was the same but did freak me out one day by not moving all morning so I ended up in DAU with the trace machine on. She went so mental she kicked it off several times... and I felt so daft. And the department was short staffed with one midwife for whom any task was a herculean effort and I couldn't even get her attention to ask if I could leave hours later!

I am slightly concerned about bags, I have one, unfilled backpack for me and baby for 48 hours. It's a cabin size backpack. I've even got the luxury of my own towel in there! What the hell am I missing?!?! No one has said anything here that I feel I want to take and I don't have. My "in labour" bag within that is a pencil case with some vegetarian gummy sweets, energy gels, hair band and lip balm. I have my backup extra 48 hours bag too for hubby to bring in. Just feel like I must have a serious case of baby brain (with DD I had two smaller bags, a pre baby and post baby bag but the whole event went to tits anyway so it all became totally irrelevant!). I watch all the birth programmes and I've never seen anyone with such a small amount of stuff as I seem to have either!

Hadn't actually had a chance to speak to anyone about delivering in our local MLU until this morning, found out the procedure for getting in out of hours (which is more than likely) and apparently they like to discharge you 6 hours post birth which would be amazing Smile

Anyone else finding Dad is thinking baby is coming sooner than you do? Hubby is convinced I won't make it to due date.

Pegase · 26/05/2020 16:45

@UKtoSK yes I feel like that about baby breaking through. Once she did a kick when my hand was there and it felt like we were entangled for a moment Envy

peetieswie · 26/05/2020 16:50

I've got a slightly larger than cabin bag. Mostly taken up by snacks, nappies, pads for me, baby clothes, couple of Muslins, clothes for me, flip flops, couple of lucozade bottles, one of those bottles you use to wash your bits after, nipple pads and some moisturiser. Oh also got a thin robe. Not taking any makeup as I doubt I'll fancy putting any on after weeks of not using any in lockdown. Not taking slippers either as flip flops should do. Just got my nightie in the post so think I'm all set, fingers crossed. Still getting the gin emoji... They're funny when you're talking about your hospital bag and then a picture of a bottle of gin is at the end of the sentence!

Zoey92 · 26/05/2020 18:03

Ive literally packed and unpacked god knows how many time 😂 I've a mini suitcase & holdall (courtesy of the MIL) 1 for little miss and the holdall for me probably seems huge amount but hey ho 😂
Everything is getting zip locked and labelled too....for OH 😂

Zoey92 · 26/05/2020 18:05

@birdgarden Yes my OH keeps saying i think she'll be here in the next 2weeks....i mean i really dont mind if she does if im honest 😂

Magpiefeather · 26/05/2020 19:01

Haha mine is the opposite! I said to him tonight that I can’t imagine I’m going to get to my due date as baby is pressing down sooo hard on my cervix I can’t see how he can keep that up with nothing happening (you watch I’ll go to 42 weeks now!!) and he looked so panicked “but we’re not ready!”. Well, we better get ready was my reply! At least it’s given him a kick up the bum

APD1981 · 26/05/2020 19:18

Another eventful midwife appt today! Baby's heart rate is always high when I'm there. I think I get anxiety when I go which the baby senses. I also had a really busy morning of vigorous cleaning (nesting!) And then I walked to my appt as normal. Heart rate 170 ish again. Baseline is 150 usually. Last time I was sent to triage straight from my appt. However, as baby had got form for this my MW decided to be a bit patient. I was sent to sit in the car park (had to call hubby to drive the car there so I could sit down) for 20 mins, went back in, still high. So, she gave me the choice to go to hospital or go home, totally relax and do absolutely nothing, then go back at the end of her clinic. I chose this option and did exactly what I was told. Got back there and heart rate was 140-150. Phew! This is was on the many reasons why having consistency of MW is so crucial, I think. She knows me and my baby and she knew that it does usually calm down. So we were all spared a trip to triage.

Also booked in for a sweep at 40+1 if I get that far. Baby is still 3/5 engaged and ready to come! 38+2 today and can't believe I'm nearly there. Feels like I'm going to just be pregnant forever and this will never result in a baby. Really excited now!

sarahlounich · 26/05/2020 19:32

I love reading this page...although I don't contribute much, reading everyone's posts is so reassuring! I'm 39 weeks today and very ready. Knew baby had moved and dropped as felt heavier and my pelvis and almost like I can't bend forward as he's in the way but then I took a photo and compared it to last Tuesday. Hope this means he's ready too! Been bouncing on my ball and been for a walk, although it tired me out so much.

My sleeping can be a bit hit and miss, some nights I sleep well apart from the expected toilet trips and other nights I'm don't go to sleep til midnight and wake up at 4ish 😩

I've got a case a bit bigger than a cabin bag for me and a backpack changing bag for baby plus a snack bag and a backpack for hubby ...they're gonna know we're coming 😂

MissisBee · 26/05/2020 20:34

Your bump looks amazing @sarahlounich. And definitely dropped.
Somehow, I managed a 3 hour nap this afternoon! I've made up for it now by hoovering and mopping the kitchen floor. It was needing doing anyway, then DS did a big wee on the floor at dinnertime, so that forces my hand. (He's a lockdown potty trained and not very reliable yet!)
I've got 2 backpacks - my Guide camp rucksack for me and a daysack for the baby's stuff. I know I've way too much, but it all fits in, and I'm not sure whether DH would be allowed to drop more stuff off if I've a longer stay.
Honestly can't remember if I brought or needed a towel last time. I've got a microfibre camping one packed this time as it takes up no space.

Missgemini · 26/05/2020 21:34

@sarahlounich I was thinking about you today due date buddy! Bump looks amazing! And we actually have the same phone cover :D

@APD1981 that's so good having the same midwife. I was seeing different people in my first few appts. It was so annoying. Glad baby is doing well x

I'm 39 weeks and just not feeling like this baby is making plans to move out of my uterus any time soon! Meanwhile, I get 10 messages/calls a day asking if I'm in labour yet! Haha

39+0

APD1981 · 26/05/2020 21:37

@Missgemini thanks x

I wish I could upload a photo of my bump but I can't upload one on my phone. It tells me I've done it but it never appears on here. So annoying! I've loved seeing all yours!

MissisBee · 26/05/2020 21:42

@Missgemini I'm getting daily texts from my mum now "everything ok???"
The doctor this morning suggested it's unlikely I'll go into labour before my section date, based on nothing whatsoever 😄 I'd love to prove him wrong!

Magpie21 · 26/05/2020 21:49

My bump at 36 + 3 Smile

I've got a cabin bag partly packed. One side of it for me the other for the little one.

Is everyone taking 'newborn' size of clothing?

@APD1981 I know what you mean about not quite believing the result will be a baby in our arms in the next few weeks!

APD1981 · 26/05/2020 21:54

#Magpie21 lovely bump. I'm taking 2 newborn outfits and 2 up to 1 month outfits. I've not been measuring big or have any indication of a particularly big baby (although I've had no scans since 20 weeks but I've followed my fundal height curve) but I am 5'9" myself so baby might be quite long. I'm hoping I'll be ok with what I've got!

BirdGarden · 26/05/2020 22:03

@Magpie21 I'm only taking newborn, but since not all newborn clothing is cut equally I lined up the different brands and chose the smallest and the biggest! I don't look to be having a particularly big baby, but they have measured really long twice now, so I wanted to cover that base in case they really are long and skinny (I'm not tall, and my 1 year old is on the second centile for height, so I'm bemused by the idea of having a tall child!)

@MissisBee I am taking a towel this time. I borrowed one from the hospital last time and it was gross. Lent my relative my small camping towel for her hospital bag (despite me being months ahead!) so I've just got a small, thin, normal one. Oh and my luxury item is my own teabags Grin

Husband has now set up moses basket, he's convinced baby will be here sooner rather than later. One of us will be right I suppose!

sarahlounich · 26/05/2020 22:08

Aww thank you @MissisBee ☺️ feels so heavy now!

@Missgemini well not long to go! Is this your first? Great choice with the phone case too ☺️ my mum pretends to ring or message for something else and happens to slip in a 'how are you anyway' just incase I might be half way through a contraction or something!

Hope everyone's managing in the heat. I'm normally ok in the sun, tend to tan and not burn but skin seems to be super sensitive. That and the fact I'm sweating in places I didn't know I could after 5 mins means I'm retreating to the cool of the house most the day.

I've packed newborn outfits from different places (primark newborn is up to 7.5lbs where as matalan and George is up to 9lbs) and a couple up to 1 month outfits. So hard when I've not had any growth scans so have no idea about size except the bump measurements they do which puts him around 75th percentile. I guess something will fit or nearly fit him either way!

Missgemini · 26/05/2020 22:19

@sarahlounich yes, first time mum and clueless. I've been having cold showers for the last 5 days. Really cools me down in the evenings. Also have my fan on constantly.

Btw ladies, I am taking my small fan with me to the hospital. I know hospitals don't tend to have enough fans in the summer.

I only packed newborn clothes, but now it's sounding like I need to add some bigger outfits just in case. Thanks for the tip ladies.

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 27/05/2020 01:09

Good luck @newbyxx xx

@BabyBird20 I have a smaller backpack for labour and a holdall with all the gubbins I'll need for afterwards! Last time the Huz couldn't find my facecloth for cooling my head so I had wet blue roll stuck to my face Grin

Labour bag has long tshirt that covers my arse, spare knickers, spare leggings, specs, phone charger, non showering toiletries (eg hand cream, bobbles, lip balm, toothbrush etc), spare tshirt for Huz, babys first outfit, facecloth and I'll add snacks.

Holdall has 3 x vest & leggings for me, 6 x vest and babygro for baby (newborn), pack nappies, pack fanjo pads, pack nipple pads, towel for me and one for baby, 1 pair pj's for me, few pairs of granny pants, cardi, baby blanket, showering toiletries & a partridge in a feckin pear tree!

I was in for a few days last time so figured better to take more than I need as Huz won't be allowed back in after the birth.

newbyxx · 27/05/2020 06:18

Hey ladies, thanks for all the well wishes. Sweep was successful yesterday so that's good, have a scan this morning and then hopefully a decision to bring my induction forward to today 🤞🏻. Feeling very looked after in hospital and actually the whole corona virus hasn't entered my head so not to worry yourselfs 😊 x

Missgemini · 27/05/2020 07:53

@newbyxx that sounds lovely. Good luck for today xx

AmyMaria2 · 27/05/2020 08:13
