Happy due date @Andddddherewegoagain!

37+5 💙

BirdGarden · 20/05/2020 09:10

@AndddddHerewegoagain happy due date to you! I hope baby surprises you later on Wink

APD1981 · 20/05/2020 10:19

@newbyxx absolutely! That's the other side of the coin and I totally agree with you there. I think if I could've had the private scan I'd planned I would feel better about it all. I'm sure (hope!) everything is fine with both of us and it's really good you're being closely monitored x

APD1981 · 20/05/2020 10:25

@SerBrienneofHouseTarth sorry for my late response. I read your message in the middle of the night (standard!) and couldn't remember the earphone details so needed to check this morning.

I did have Sony Walkman ones (with built in MP3 player) and loved them. They only lasted me 18 months though before they died on me. So my DH got me some Amazon branded ones called i360 (also built in MP3 player). He did loads of research and decided they were the best ones. They are actually much better sound quality going in and out of the water than the Sony ones which is great. Once you have played about with the different sized ear buds to get the right fit they pretty much stay put, too, even doing front crawl. I did, however, tuck the cable under my goggles strap above my ears for extra security.

I love nothing more than putting my music on and going into my own little world for an hour whilst I swim. So good for my mental health and I miss it so much!x

HaichMal · 20/05/2020 11:39

@newbyxx jealous of you're being able to walk. My back, hips and thighs tend to give up after about 10 minutes of walking or standing. I found walking with my second definitely seemed to encourage things, though we still went to 42 weeks, but I'd spend the entire walk with him pushing down and/or BH. I have a birthing ball this time, so I'm going to try and use that more.

Also, I lost my plug with my first and it was noticeable in the toilet bowl when I did, but I have no idea when I lost it with my second, but probably when my waters went.

@AndddddHerewegoagain happy due date day!

@APD1981 I think different areas do different things as well. I didn't get to 40 weeks with my first (by a few days) but I went all the way to 42 with my second and I wasn't offered a sweep until 41, but I didn't take it because we were moving house the day after my midwife appointment. I have no idea which week I'll be offered one this time.

BirdGarden · 20/05/2020 11:49

@haichmal - you moved house at 41 weeks pregnant?! I moved 300 miles with a 12 week old and thought that was mad enough!

How did you find convincing midwives and doctors to let you go to 42 weeks if you don't mind me asking? I have already said I won't be induced for dates and midwives I've spoken to have been quite supportive so far, but having never seen the same one twice I'm still wary about having to stand up for myself! Just got a strong feeling baby will stay put long past due date (also my daughter's birthday is when I could be 42+1)

Gigitree · 20/05/2020 11:49

Happy Due date @AndddddHerewegoagain

Thank goodness I’m not the only one that feels like that @haichmal I was tidying the kitchen this morning and had to stop halfway through to sit for a minute as my lower back just kills!
Really wish I could still be going on long walks but if it’s not my lower back it’s my pelvis!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 20/05/2020 11:50

Thanks everyone. Been to the midwife and for a 3km walk in the woods which has just about finished me off. Looking forward to getting paddling pool back up and relaxing in the garden this afternoon. Ice cream man started coming round again yesterday hope he comes today as its our last day of lockdown. Tomorrow toddler goes back to nursery and i have the consultant at the hospital. Going to miss hanging out with him- until Saturday when its the bank holiday weekend. I'll be counting down the days to Tuesday when he will be back or in hospital giving birth lol

@andddddherewegoagain has just reminded me - has anyone else been told to fully self-isolate after baby is born, whole household? We've been told 2 weeks, no walks, no click and collect shopping, no nothing. If someone goes out then baby and I have to self-isolate within the house for 2 weeks. We live in Welsh Wales and restrictions out here are tighter so perhaps it's just a regional thing.

APD1981 · 20/05/2020 12:04

@BirdGarden I'm in Cheshire and not been told anything like that. No Click and Collect though?! Who has milk and the likes for 2 weeks?! Can you get shopping deliveries or someone drop things off? I don't understand the harm of a click and collect. We do I and we wipe everything down when we get home (same as for when we get deliveries) and we are really careful with handwashing.

AndddddHerewegoagain · 20/05/2020 12:09

@BirdGarden nope haven't been told that by anyone! We are England. Its not going to happen anyway!! My sister will be here this weekend if I end up in labour. And we have a supermarket delivery next week!

What are they doing about health visitors? I have to take the baby for a check up at 5 days old to the baby unit at the hospital. I know our lockdown is a lot less strict though!

LillianFullStop · 20/05/2020 12:42

@BirdGarden we haven't been told anything for after baby comes - just for women in 3rd trimester. Are those measures because for the new baby or because of being exposed in hospital?

Seventytwoseventythree · 20/05/2020 12:45

Hi @Mj2196 thanks for the message. Yes I had a growth scan at 29 weeks, think might have been the very first bump measurement that triggered that as I was measuring 4 weeks ahead! Scan was normal other than 95th percentile for all measurements. But they said they weren’t worried as she was still following the same percentile line as she had been at the 20 week scan. I know that scans etc can sometimes be inaccurate but all the measurements have shown a big baby so I think it’s probably true 😬 my husband and I are both tall so presumably just genetic. It’s the shoulder dystocia risk I’m worried about yes. That’s for the info I will discuss it with my midwife.

Blizy · 20/05/2020 12:50

Yikes! My little ones has had her eviction notice served. I'm having my ElCS on 17th June, 4 weeks today, my nerves are sky high now!

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 20/05/2020 12:53

@APD1981 Thanks for the recommendation!

I've been up to day care and turns out my bile salts are raised so itching probably not antibiotic reaction. Baby has went from 50-95th centile and movements are reduced too so going back twice a week for trace/scan and bloods monitored weekly to check for developing choleostasis. Looks like potential induction at 38wks based on how things go. I wish I could just be induced or sectioned today to have them here safe and well. Feeling very stressed.

Blizy · 20/05/2020 13:05

@SerBrienneOfHouseTarth sorry to hear this.
It sounds like they are keeping a close eye on things. When do you reach the 38 week mark?

Gigitree · 20/05/2020 13:06

Eeeek how exciting @Blizy that’s a week before my due date!

If it helps my sister had an ELCS last year and she had such a positive experience and raves about it. The anaesthetist took some epic pictures of the moment my nephew was lifted out, it’s incredible. And that calm arrival gave her the mental strength and energy to really pursue bfeeding this time round which was the complete opposite of her previous birth experience.

Mj2196 · 20/05/2020 13:13

@Seventytwoseventythree it’s strange isn’t it I measured big all the way through with dc1 & was just left too it . I was only referred this time as my bump measurement jumped 5cm in 2weeks so was above the graph.My baby was below 50th at 20 weeks lol. Definitely talk to your midwife about any worries you have . Perhaps request another scan to see where baby plots . Good luck ! X

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 20/05/2020 14:04

Thanks @Blizy I'll be 38 weeks a week on Monday so not too long x

BabyBird20 · 20/05/2020 14:23

Had an awful 36 week appt with the consultant today, did not go how I hoped at all. They acknowledged that babies with a huge head like mine have increased risks of needing intervention with instruments or even emergency c section but they won't medically advise one for me on those grounds under current circumstances thanks to the stupid virus. I'm also not allowed to request one. Basically I've been told I'll just have to 'try' labour then have an unplanned section it if goes wrong. Not really the birth plan I wanted and can't stop crying. Just don't feel like I'm on the right mindset for birth at all now. Need to turn this around quickly!

AndddddHerewegoagain · 20/05/2020 14:35

@BabyBird20 i can completely empathize. This is exactly the same conversation i had with my consultant. Seeing him again tomorrow so will let you know what is said and if i can offer any advice back to you

BirdGarden · 20/05/2020 14:48

@BabyBird20 sorry to hear about your appointment. You'd think they'd want to avoid emergency sections right now, not run an increased risk of one!

For the isolation thing, must just be us! Not allowed a walk round the block or anything because of the risk to baby. I do have a months supply of food in (long story) and we've had the town milkman with dairy and eggs, and local farm delivering veg since moving here, and I've always made all my own baked products, so we can manage quite easily. Husband sent home from work and as a family we have only been for a walk round the block (all 3 of us), husband collected two click and collect orders and two prescriptions for me, and I've been to midwife appointments. Other than that none of us have left the house for about 7 weeks or so. My daughter was unexpectedly born with breathing issues and was saved by NICU so we probably are ultra paranoid about anything that can compromise lungs in any way, even though all of this is totally unrelated! Sadly due to Welsh restrictions we've also lost our baby-sitter for the birth so I'm going in alone (doesn't bother me really, husband was pretty useless last time!!!)

APD1981 · 20/05/2020 15:02

@Babybird20 so sorry you've had an awful appt. It must be so frustrating to not have your wishes for your own body and baby listened to. I'm sure in a day or so once you've had some time to process it you might be able to start to come to terms with it. Either that or come up with a battle plan! X

@Blizy how exciting you have your date! X

Blizy · 20/05/2020 15:09

@BabyBird20 sorry to hear this, can you maybe get a second opinion?

@Gigitree this will be my second section, I'm not too worried about that. I actually enjoyed the last one. I'm requesting the screen to removed so I can see the birth and for delayed cord clamping if possible. I'm really anxious about the possible DS diagnosis and how I'll cope with it. It's all so very real now and I'm slightly terrified.

SerBrienneOfHouseTarth · 20/05/2020 15:23

@BabyBird20 sorry to hear that.

RCOG continue to support maternal request CS so if that is what you would prefer and you feel up to it perhaps going back armed with support may help? I would recommend contacting Birthrights (www.birthrights.org.uk) for advice and then emailing your consultant making it very clear in writing you've weighed up the risks and benefits of different birth options and based on their advice you have decided the safest route for you and your baby is a CS.

You could also add that should you be denied an elective CS you will be holding the Dr and hospital liable for any negative outcome (not sure if this bit is wise so I'd seek advice from Birthrights on this!)

Hugs x
