Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidoodle · 19/09/2007 20:06

yeah me, I'm not from down south, sometimes feel a bit left out

sure I'll survive

onemore · 19/09/2007 20:07

oh and forgot to ask, Preggersagain where in Mid Wales are you do you have a shop or do you just visit??

MerlinsBeard · 19/09/2007 20:08

mid wales is nearer to me than North London is!
(am manchester)

skidoodle, nice to know i am not the only one!

glammama · 19/09/2007 20:19

wahey mom I'm a Mancunian. Born in the now demolished Withington Hospital and lived in Northenden then Altrincham. Where are you?

derah · 19/09/2007 20:30

Goodness you're a chatty bunch today!

Just got back from aquanatal classes, so feeling extra smug after yesterday's exercise too. So now I can safely not exercise for another month !

Great news about your scan, MoM! We missed you!

Welcome back Studentmum!

merryberry · 19/09/2007 21:26

yes skidoodle, that's the kinda bed i mean. have you seen any others than the one glammama linked to (the brio as was, now called the global?)

i had the loan of a moses basket by the bed with no. 1 and don't want one again: not because it meant more lifting up up but because the canes on the damn thing SQUEAKED once he started moving enough and kept what sleep i did get too shallow. i found i had to get up after half feeds anyhow as ds would need a nappy change.

hi there my1st welcome! my heart went out to you weeping over the prams being sticky.

mumofmonsters i got my bump bands from isabelle oliver this time: really good quality/tough/springy/washing very well. 2 for 30 quid, but clearly won't lose their looks.

northerners! What do you mean? is there like, places and stuff past Watford then???

turtle23 · 19/09/2007 21:30

I DID IT! Just got back from pregnancy yoga. The odd thing was it made me cry! I am obviously very stressed out as the relaxation bits were difficult to breathe through...got that thing where you try not to cry and your breath catches. At the end there were actual tears. Am I mad?
So proud of myself for going. So very hungry as you're not allowed to eat for 3 hour beforehand. Must go and forage...

fitnforty · 19/09/2007 21:36

Phew, so many posts today, have only just caught up!

Foodwise, being a veggie means I don't get tempted to have the rare steaks and seafood etc...mind you, the smell of steak almost converted me back to the dark side a couple of months ago...just consoled myself with some quorn bacon slices instead
HAve eaten loads of nuts despite having asthma (mild) - i reckon the universe is playing games with me trying to get the baby acclimatised to all allergens since in the last 2 days I've had a nasty rash and lacerations from pruning my pampas grass, then stung on the head by a wasp.
Am consciously avoiding caffiene though, only have the odd cup of coffee when out for a meal, as my normal tipple is actually water or herbal tea!
I would agree with the advice on artificial sweeteners though, they're completely evil and mess up your insides/brain etc. Don't even help any as they fool your body into thinking it's had sugar anyway so your insulin levels still go up. As for aspartame...one of these days it'll be banned when the evidence mounts up, at the moment industry pays too much money to govts so they get away with things.

Preggers, hope to see you at the baby show on the Sat...I need help with travel systems as I haven't a clue! Like the look of all the Stokke stuff but not the price Like their high chairs too but a little early for that
Don't really know what I need as I guess we drive most places, and I'd planned on some sort of sling for dog-walking until the offspring gets too heavy?
Will be buying reusable nappies, but hoping to see a good selection at the baby show and have someone show me what the hell you do with them! I need a nappy lady in South Wales (Newport!) to show me the way

Right, off to bed early tonight (have been staying up to all of 10.30 lately) cos we joined a new gym, had the induction this evening where i had all the things pointed out to me that i couldn't use....but had a lovely swim. Only 6 lengths but it knackered me! Belly dancing tomorrow night, need to keep that going as long as poss as it's great for toning your ligaments when they all start getting extra stretchy!

merryberry · 19/09/2007 21:39

prams.
food.
cloth nappies.

we need something new to ponder in depth.

try the great LADYGARDEN debate.

PurlyQueen · 19/09/2007 21:39

I'm going to give coffee a wide berth - seeing as the sonographer told me to have a coffee or a coca-cola and go for a 10-minute walk to make the baby move more before my nuchal fold scan today.

glammama · 20/09/2007 07:34

Merry, I think Ikea does an inexpensive bedside cot. I ,ay be complteely mistaken but I think saw one in the catalogue. Shame I missed the ladygarden debate, sounds fun

glammama · 20/09/2007 07:35

crikey, typos sorry. Should read may be completely mistaken.

HolidaysQueen · 20/09/2007 08:47

Here was I thinking I keep up with what goes on this board quite well and it has just taken me ages to trawl through all the posts since my last one which was only yesterday afternoon...

glammama - I too am a mancunian trapped down south. Well technically a Lancastrian, but I spent my teenage years hanging out in the Arndale Centre and Afflecks Palace so sort of honorary Mancunian I guess

turtle, derah, fitnforty - you have almost convinced me to do some exercise today. I don't like being the odd one out

Have a good Thursday, ladies - nearly the weekend!!!

glammama · 20/09/2007 09:45

Afflecks!!!! I used to work there, on the top floor in a friend's T shirt shop. Edward Barton's (OB) veg and fruit designs!! Prior to working there I would spend most saturday afternoons camped on the Sally Army steps opposite Afflecks. I'm 33 and left in 1993, were you around then? I used to have a Morrissey quiff, then dreadlock extensions. I thought I was the business!!!

preggersagain · 20/09/2007 10:16

blimey! you lot were chatty last night!!

I officially have a nursery!!! had poor dh assembling various bits of cotbeds, changing units and wardrobes last night my shopping list is growing by the day though! i am envious of all you first timers who don't know whats out there- stay that way, it'll save you a fortune

Poor dh is dismantling said cotbeds tonight as they won't be needed for a long while yet but i wanted to check where they would fit in the room! he dispares of me atm!

On the baby show front Friday is one of the best days to go, you will find it quieter and because its the first day all the exhibitors are entusiastic and well rested- by sunday frankly no-one can be arsed as their usually knackered and hungover
Saturday is busy but there's always a great atmosphere!

Don't expect too much, a lot of the bigger companies will offer discounts on various things but think about it first- sometimes its a way of shifting old stock.

my1stbaby · 20/09/2007 10:17

Good morning ladies! I am feeling especially proud of myself today: spurred on by the fine example demonstrated by derah and turtle, I went swimming this morning . Have not been in a pool for about 3 years and decided to take it gently so much so that I only managed....wait for it....a total of 4 lengths . How pathetic was that!!! Consoled myself with the thought that some exercise is better than none..no???

Have a good day everyone, it's Friday tomorrow, yay!!

HolidaysQueen · 20/09/2007 10:27

hee hee my1stbaby - i was thinking about swimming tonight then realised Thurs night is 50m pool night (normally they have it split into 2 x 25m) and I'm not sure I'll survive 50m in one go without drowning

glammama - I think I remember those t-shirts although I seemed to spend most of my time buying vintage shoes that when I got them home realised were too small! I was a bit of a geek though, and never had the courage to do anything exciting like a quiff with my hair. Still haven't actually - contemplating dying my hair a funny colour (i.e. brown rather than blonde!) when on maternity leave, but that's as exciting as I'll ever get I'm afraid! 1993-1995 were my Manchester years as I'm a couple of years younger than you.

my1stbaby · 20/09/2007 10:35

Hi preggers, was thinking of going on Sat but you've made me re-think. Have slight claustrophia in huge crowds so perhaps Fri would be best day for me to go, can't drag DH along though. Will definitely come and see you at your stand.

my1stbaby · 20/09/2007 10:41

Hi holidayqueen swimming is not my thing really. I much prefer yoga/pilates where I can lie down on mat and daydream whilst pretending that I've found where my inner core is and am pulling tummy muscles in . A bit frustrated that I can't find any ante-natal classes near me though.

glammama · 20/09/2007 11:11

my1stbaby, Discovered last night that DP left vouchers on seat in waiting room. But don't panic I'll pop in tomorrow and pick up some more. There'll be a short delay, that's all.
All you talking about exercise I'm exercising my jaw with a cheese and tomato bagel. Currently I'm just happy that my midwife (a different one) didn;t mention my weight once. Was far more interested in my mental state!

ClaphamLauren · 20/09/2007 12:01

Those vouchers sound great! I wonder if my antenatal clinic has any.

Very impressed by all the exercise going on, I'm going to start pregnancy yoga soon. Well as soon as I can motivate myself!

This morning I have mainly been doing spreadsheets and looking up childminders... My biggest fear is not being able to find one and therefore not be able to come back to work. My colleague handed her notice in today which means I have double the accounts I normally do to look after from next week. Arrrghhh!

Have a good day ladies! Reading this thread keep me amused all day whilst I am at work

e14mum · 20/09/2007 12:11

I'm going to ask mw if she has any vouchers when I see her next week. Quite fancy taking a day off work... esp for a baby show.
The ladygarden thread has had me in stitches! Thanks Merryberry. Of course I haven't gotten any work done this morning

turtle23 · 20/09/2007 12:12

Clapham...the Vitality Centre isn't too far from you. They do fab courses and exercise classes. They even do hypnobirthing there. Have a look!

my1stbaby · 20/09/2007 12:22

no worries glammama. thank you for all your help .

spugs · 20/09/2007 12:58

wow everyones been chatty on here,
i use cloth nappies and love them. ive tred loads of types and settled with fuzzis which the next one will be wearing as well.

pushchair wise im thinking of either a buzz or the ziko pram from m&P starting to think about it early cos i normally get them and end up realising i hate it.

only think ive bought so far though is a pack of muslins to use as new born nappies. got my dating scan on mon (either 13 or 14 weeks) so might get some bits after that
