glam- you sure you shouldn't be seeing a doctor?? sounds painful and not really sure what explanation there is unless its just everything getting bigger and stretching etc. take it easy- a warm bath may help!

glammama · 04/10/2007 16:27

Preggers, I too thought it must be a stretching/duct preparation thingy. If it's the same tomorrow I'll give my midwife a ring, seen quite enough of the GP recently!

monthlymayhem · 04/10/2007 18:08

Sorry to hear about your Dh's op preggers, although night in to yourself sounds good! My DH works 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts and then 4 days off, and when he's on nights I do look forward to suiting myself. Although I also check the doors and windows 20 times, and sleep with a hall light on

I very nearly lost it today speaking to Royal Mail. They tried to deliver my doppler yesterday but I wasn't in so got a collection card put through the door. Despite the strikes the office was supposed to be open this morning but it was closed. I might not be able to get it until next Wednesday now Don't they know I can't wait that long!!!! Very nearly burst into tears on the phone which is very unlike me!

imjin100 · 04/10/2007 18:22

hello all, been away for a little while. Have been reading and trying to vaguely catch up - alot to read!
Glad all is well with most but sorry to hear of sleepless nights, sore boobs and DHs who are misbehaving!
I'm back at work tomorrow, bummer but nearly the weekend and then I'm off to a wedding...showing my small bump in order to remind people I@m pregnant and not just overweight...there is a subtle difference and it's tricky to spot at the moment!
hope everyone else begining to get that friday feeling....well thursday is the new friday isn't it?!?

Prisci · 04/10/2007 20:11

CL I hope you are feeling better by now.

Glammama, I also agree get it check if it continues, it might be nothing but not worth taking the risk.

As anyone started putting on weight 'properly'? I am almost 15 weeks now and still have put only 1.5kg despite not having had any morning sickness etc...I am already slightly underweight, the books are not very clear on the subject at that stage. Any ideas?

turtle23 · 04/10/2007 20:23

Prisci-I have put on weight improperly!9 kilos so far, although I was quite thin to begin with. Am I the only one eating for triplets despite only having the one baby?

Have a close friend who had her 12 week scan today to find her baby hadn't grown for 5 weeks. I think it's going to be very difficult for her to be around me, and don't really know what to do .

skidoodle · 04/10/2007 20:41

oh no turtle, that's so sad. I guess the only thing you can do is carry on as normal with regard to your stuff and let her react whatever way she needs to.

hey everyone, I finally told work today. My boss was nice about it and I'm so relieved to have it over with. I've been dreading it for ages.

HQ i got my triple test results through the post in about 3 days.

Prisci · 04/10/2007 20:47

Thank you turtle,

Really feel sorry for your friend indeed.
I am also worried that the baby is not growing but I have to wait for a scan in 3 weeks....since my 12 weeks one was fine.

From what I have read 9 Kilos is ok, if you were a bit underweight while 1.5 is not really, but just called my mum, and she was the same as I was, while I was 3.5Kg when born, so feeling a bit better, but still not 100%.

Another thing to worry about, between thinking will the baby be ok, will we be able to cope....

turtle23 · 04/10/2007 21:00

prisci...You should count yourself lucky! I'm sure everything is fine. You would be told if you HAD to gain weight! Enjoy being thin!

i lost wieght in the first twelve weeks and havent put any on yet, i weighed myself this evening to check, i am still in all my normal clothes etc and just starting to get a teeny bump, tho you can only see it when i am naked.

i had an app with the midwife the other day at 18wks, she wasnt bothered about my weight, i am a healthy weight for my height, 5 2 and a size ten.

she said that my uterous measures the right size etc and according to my scans everything was fine, so she was not bothered by my lack of weight gain.

i was the same with the last three, i put on under a stone with ds1, and he was 9lb when he was born, with ds2 and ds3 i put on about a stone and half? and they were both over 9lbs, i dont get big at all, but i have big babies

i think as long as you are eating healthily you dont need to worry

says she who is getting paranoid about her twenty week scan next week.....

skidoodle · 04/10/2007 21:11

Prisci, according to my doctor there is no need to gain weight other than the weight of the baby itself. This is not what I've read other places, but I trust her on that. I wouldn't worry about gaining so little, in fact I think it's probably healthy. Try not to worry and just make sure you're eating enough and aren't leaving yourself hungry.

I've put on about a stone since my wedding in June. I think some of that was just honeymoon eating & drinking but most of it is from when I was feeling sick and eating terrible food almost constantly. I don't think I've gained anything for about a month now.

glammama · 04/10/2007 21:28

This is a bit ironic as I have put on lots of weight (and it isn't baby related) and you guys are lovely and svelte still but I have a very important question.....

Is it ever acceptable to spend £24 on a box of 48 Wispa bars?

Please bear in mind the following facts:
1)It is a limited edition
2)You can't buy them singly
3)I might give some away
4)Perhaps someone or someones want to share a box?
5)I will never be able to buy them again.

Answers on a postcard please.

glammama · 04/10/2007 21:28

Plus point 6) I have a sore boob

derah · 04/10/2007 21:38

Skid - I hope your doc is also taking into account the weight of the amniotic fluid, placenta, expanding boobs etc! Gaining only 3kg during a while pregnancy can't be enough!

I seem to remember from last time that about 15kg over the whole pregnancy is about right.... cos that's what I gained in the first trimester!!

This time I've only gained 2.5kg so far, but then I started at 15kg overweight rather than only 3kg!

HolidaysQueen · 04/10/2007 21:39

I wasn't sure it was worth it until I read point 6, glammama...

HolidaysQueen · 04/10/2007 21:47

The weight thing seems really different for everybody, and completely random

Based on my weight when I saw the midwife 4 weeks ago, I'd put on 3kg in first trimester. However, today at hosp I put myself on the same scales they weighed me on last time (I was bored waiting for blood test and nobody was around to tell me off!) and I've apparently LOST 1.5kg in the last 4 weeks! The only thing I can think is that last time I had a full bladder for scan and had just had a pasty for lunch, whereas this morning I hadn't drunk or eaten beforehand. But surely that couldn't make a 1.5kg difference - and it certainly means that even if I haven't lost that much then I can't really have put much on in 4 weeks. Yet I've acquired a bump and my boobs have got bigger...

My best friend didn't put much on during the first trimester or so of her first pregnancy and midwife wasn't concerned so long as she was actually eating. If she hadn't then they'd have been worried about nutrients etc., but she was so they figured the baby would be getting what she needed. She ended up with a 9lber who is now in 98th percentile on weight and height!

skidoodle · 04/10/2007 22:13

glamma, you can buy wispas singly, I've had one every day for the last few days. Yum.

But all your other points stack up, so go for it.

derah, I presume she's including all those other weight things you mention. I think she was just countering my notion that I had to actually gain weight over and above that, just because. That's what I'd read in WtEWYE, it has some kind of rules about how much you should be gaining all the time. And also how every Wispa I eat is literally STEALING nutrients from my baby .

It just makes them even more delicious.

glammama · 04/10/2007 22:35

Oh, I didn't know you could buy them singly. That's good Still tempted to buy a box though!

modsaluk · 04/10/2007 22:38

Good evening all, hope everyone is well.

Been for my first antenatal with the midwife today, she was not the nicest of people. I told her i was feeling flutters already bearing in mind that it is my second pregnancy and i am having twins, but she told me it was too early, im not sure what the books say is correct just know what i feel but she made me feel like i was making it up.

She also informed me that one baby is a fraction bigger than the other and at the moment they have seperate EDD. No one mentioned this at the scan.

Anyway apart from that all went well we even got to hear heart beats.

Hope you are all well.

derah · 05/10/2007 08:53

Modsaluk - different EDD for twins? If that happens I'm sure it would be a medical first, except for twins born either side of midnight! What a silly mw you have!! It's not uncommon for twins to differ in weight by even a few pounds at birth so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I'm getting very excited about tomorrow. The extra nappies I ordered to show you guys arrived this morning, so I'll have fun playing with those when I get home from work today.

So, ClaphamLauren and Brazillianmum - are you stil keen to meet at Waterloo? I'll check TfL later to see how long it will take to get to Marylebone and come up with a good meeting time. And maybe someone who knows Waterloo a little better than me can suggest a good place to meet?

Right, better get some work done....

turtle23 · 05/10/2007 09:35

derah..may not be most convenient, but meeting at the eurostar bit is usually easy. I am in a very good mood today despite having no clothes to wear. Sunshine is better than anything for cheering you up!

OP posts:
monthlymayhem · 05/10/2007 09:44

Prisci - don't worry about weight gain. I lost about 5/6lb during first 12 weeks and am now back to my normal pre-pg weight even though I've been eating like a horse and not been doing my normal running. Apparently my Mum was the same, so I think your body just adjusts itself as it needs to.

I'm really of your meet up tomorrow - hope you all have a great time!!

e14mum · 05/10/2007 09:54

Lol Turtle- I was thinking exactly the same thing! Nothing to wear, but at least it's sunny which puts me in a good mood

ClaphamLauren · 05/10/2007 10:25

Mods, I have sisters who are twins (non identical) and they were conceived four days apart so in effect did have different due dates. They were of course born on the same day, it was early for both of them anyway. Maybe this is what they meant for you?

Derah - don't think I am going to make tomorrow, I fell down a flight of stairs at Clapham North this morning at work but in agony so think this weekend may end up with me spending lots of time resting as opposed to going out! If I feel better, I will post on here first thing!

However, under the big clock is always a good meeting point I find.

glammama · 05/10/2007 10:46

CL, you poor thing. I think you should go home in a taxi, this minute and get on that sofa. Did you faint again or did you trip? Take paracetamol if you need, sending you {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}
