Oh turtle that you are going to use disposables is music to my ears!

I was starting to feel terrible about the fact I was going to use disposables as I know they are so bad for the environment etc. My baby is going to be at a childminder from about 4/5 months unfortunately and most don't/won't use disposables and with everything else being a complete unknown I'd like to have one thing I know I can do (change a disposable nappy!).

The sun is emerging here in the West End and if it holds out I think a long walk at lunchtime is going to be lovely!

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 11:41

Ok, spent my morning coffee break surfing the net re. MS and sex of baby. Found this article news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/556895.stm. I'm crap at linking so don't know if it works. Sorry!

If it's true then I'm having a girl .

secretly wanted a boy

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 11:54

my1st...i want a girl, so am choosing to ignore said article! Finally got my notes from the hospital this morning. Does anyone know what the coup is with tests like afp? Do they just not do blood tests if you've had a normal scan? My blood levels are apparently not being done again until 28 weeks. Also, seeing my midwife at 16 weeks then 24 as she says I'll have a scan at 20 so will see someone...but I won't have BP done or anything. Confused.

As you are all doing it, then I'm going to join in. I would like a boy. Although all I know atm is that I am having a hairy baby. Keep suffering from heartburn and everyone keeps telling me that it is a sign of lot's of hair. At this rate I will give birth to a monkey.

merryberry · 24/09/2007 12:48

there's a chinese thing supposed to be intriguing re: gender guessing, will see if i can find it...

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 12:49

Oh no brazilianmum I'm having horrible heartburn too!!! A hairy baby girl Perish the thought! . God, better hope it's a boy then...

x

merryberry · 24/09/2007 12:50

here's the chinese gender predictor mine says boy: it's that funny dancing baby from ally mcbeal days that pops up at the end! funny tosee that again.

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 12:54

Chinese very accurate predictor says it's a girl too...but then again, if my dates are right it must be a girl as male sperm don't live that long!!

OP posts:
my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 12:54

turtle sorry meant to answer your query but was momentarily in shock with image of a hairy baby girl LOL.

How far along are you? If you've already had nuchal with blood test and the risk is low, then at the 20wks anomaly scan, they'll probably won't offer anymore blood test on the NHS unless they suspect spina bifida or anencephaly. If that's the case, then they'll do amnio to confirm. At least that's what I've been told by my MW.

Does that help?

x

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 12:57

Ok, did the chinese prediction: it's a all dancing and waving ally mcbeal baby girl!!!

All right, I'm convinced I'm having a girl now. Will pray very hard that barzilianmum is wrong about heartburn=hairyness

spugs · 24/09/2007 12:58

had scan this am and im 14 weeks today baby now due 24th March so hi to turtle and pinks who are due the same day

i have a bit of a tummy, its normally flat but as this is my 3rd baby and my second pregnancy since april my muscles have given up the ghost i dont look pregnant just like i have a bit of a beer belly. luckily nothing else is bigger yet so i can still wear my normal jeans. wont be long now though i'd imagine.

spugs · 24/09/2007 13:00

oh and i would really like a boy, have 2 girls already (though another would be fine). was charting when i got pregnant and have got all excited as had sex on day of conception after 2 days off which apparently increases chances of boy. will have to wait 6 weeks and see

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 13:02

spugs congrats for being 14 weeks. I was so excited when I got to 14, am now 16 weeks. Can't wait to be 20 wks, half way there.

It's my 1st one, have a little wobbly bulge but still wearing normal clothes as too lazy to go shopping. Will need to this weekend as feeling very uncomfortable now.

I'm due on the 10th March. Anybody else sharing the same date?

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 13:03

MY1st...had nuchal scan and all was fine, but wasn't ever offered blood tests at the time. Guess it doesn't really matter, but every thing that says normal helps with the sleeping!

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 13:05

Spugs-congrats and great to have another for the 24th!

HolidaysQueen · 24/09/2007 13:21

Hi spugs, turtle, pinkmartini - I was 24th on dates calc but then scan measured me as 27th - but as our first wedding anniversary is 24th March we decided that we are going to stick with that as it feels more special

By the way, that's exactly 6 months today...

P.S. The ever so accurate Chinese predictor has me having a girl. We really wanted a girl but as we have picked a lovely boy's name but no idea for a girl, I can kind of visualise a boy more, so I think I'm convincing myself that a boy wouldn't be so bad after all.

e14mum · 24/09/2007 13:24

stats, schmats! That's 56:44 girls to boys for women who suffered from hyperemisis... sounds a lot like 50:50 to me! And a lot of boys born to ms-suffering women!

However, I'm having a girl according to the other link!

Still scared of reuseables... may be joining the disposable side Glad there's more of you...

my1st- I'm due on the 9th- close enough!!

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 13:42

yay e14 on EDD. i seem to remember a thread with EDDs on...does it still exist?

HQ I have a boy's name too, it's one that I wanted for what seems like forever. Haven't told DH yet .

Am wondering now whether or not to find out sex at 20 wk scan? So quick survey: who is and who isn't?

x

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 13:49

I am finding out! 7th November I will (hopefully) know for sure! We have two sets of names picked. One for if baby is born on due date and one if not. This is only because my due date is Easter Sunday! And no...it isn't Jesus that I've chosen! lol

OP posts:
Brazilianmum · 24/09/2007 13:56

I definitely want to know and we already picked boy and girl names. Someone at work was told his wife was having a girl and it was her brother doing the ultrasound, it was a surprise when a little boy popped out.

We are having a double confirmation as I will ask to find out at the 20 wk scan and then will want to confirm when we have the 3d scan at 28 wks.

MIL is coming with us to the 20 wk scan and the 3d one which is really nice as my mum is in Brazil and can't be with me during the pregnancy.

HolidaysQueen · 24/09/2007 13:56

my1st - I'm 50:50 on finding out and DH wants to, so I think we will. I think we'd like to know so that it seems more real (and so that if it's a girl then we actually have to get our act together and pick a name!) - plus when I'm in labour I think a big focus for me will be that the more I push, the quicker I will meet the baby, who by then will be a specific person with a name who we have been talking to and about for months, rather than just an abstract concept, which is what the baby seems to me at the moment, IYSWIM. Also friends who waited both said that the gender was actually only about 3rd on their list of priorities on the day after "is the baby healthy?" and "is mum doing okay?" so I think the benefits of knowing versus the surprise of waiting stack up right for me

However we won't tell anyone - both sets of GPs have said they don't want to know so I don't feel that anyone else should know before them, so surprise for everyone else.

HolidaysQueen · 24/09/2007 13:57

turtle - we're all going to try and guess your Easter name now. Is it Chocolate? Bunny? Egg?

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 13:58

turtle my next scan is on the 22nd Oct. I'm tempted...but not sure.

LOL at Jesus !

ClaphamLauren · 24/09/2007 14:03

I definitely want to find out... It seems like such a long time with nothing "happening" otherwise and I'm sure the shock of a baby will be enough at the birth!

Plus, it's a surprise whether you find out now or when it's born. Just because you find out at a scan IMO doesn't take away the fact that it is a surprise.

my1stbaby · 24/09/2007 14:06

HQ know what you mean. My BF who is expecting any day now, decided to find out at her 20wk scan. It's a girl and they've named her and started using her name with everyone. It kind of felt more real for them and us IFSWIM, rather than just calling her it, baby, beanie, LO etc? I think it helped them bond with her more strongly. Apparently she seem to respond to being called by her name by giving a little kick . Not sure if it's wishful thinking on their part though...but then again it might not be too far fetched as babies can hear from about 24 wks onwards isn't it?
