Sorry MM misread your post. I see, its because your back size has shrunk? x

fitnforty · 23/09/2007 12:56

btw, did a mystery shop yesterday for Evans and although the shop was too small (no pun intended!) to stock their maternity line, came away with 2 more pairs of stretchy trousers for work and a new top, just went up a size and they should last for a while.

Monthlymahem....try Bravissimo.co.uk, they've got a really good range of sizes and do soft cup/nursing bras. Don't do over a 40 in soft cup though so no good for me unless i want underwiring!

PinkMartini · 23/09/2007 14:40

Hello everyone

I am rubbish at posting and you lot are all so prolific I'm worried I'll be left behind.

We are looking to move house before the baby comes and I don't know if I'll get onto the right NCT courses etc. I feel like there is still so much to do before then but then still can't believe I'm pregnant at the same time!

I have just signed up to both October cake-eating meetups though, so look forward to meeting you all then.

Have had quite a week of it, rushing round when I've been used to having naps in the afternoon so am having a very lazy day today, listening to the archers and mooching round reading the papers and generally vegging out while DH went food shopping as I couldn't face it, bless him.

I'm going off to see a friend with a fairly new (3wkold) newborn tomorrow which I'm sure will be a shock to the system too - it's a while since I've been around a new babies - my nieces are all little girls now.

holidaysqueen V impressed at you doing the Davina DVD - is it a pg one or is it hte Power of 3 one (I bought that. It is gathering dust in the pile )I like that we're in the same boat!! Are there many first timers on the thread? It's hard to tell?!

brazilianmum I've been loooking at the MN pram reviews - I have no idea where to start! I know I need something that will fit in the boot of my car which isn't very big which prob rules out the bugaboo etc. It's like buying a car, except with cars, you already have an idea of what you like! with prams you have to start all over again!

FNF glad you're feeling better today - that must have been scary. HOw much mystery shopping do you do? I would love to do that.

MarchMum thanks for tip re NCT nearlynew sale -I'm really not far from that nov one - is it near you too? Wonder if we're almost neighbours? Will look out that Paternity book for DH - who is v excited about everything so will be good to give him seomthing like that.

merryberry I got my bumpbands through IsabellaOliver, and it was £30 after P&P and parcel came next day though I asked for std!
MN give you a 10% discount. Haven't looked at Blooming Marvellous (where we also get 10% discount as mumsnetters) yet - still not really showing so don't want to spend too much ££ yet. Plenty of time for all that

everyone else hope you're well and I promise to post more often.

PinkMartini x

PM..I'm a first-timer too.

PinkMartini · 23/09/2007 15:40

Hi turtle - and did I read that you're going to be at both meets up as well?
Are you London too?
How have you been feeling? The sickness has worn off a bit this week, I am very relieved about that!

turtle23 · 23/09/2007 15:45

Yes, I'm going to both! I'm in South London/Surrey. I'm feeling much better too. My brain is turning to porridge though!

PurlyQueen · 23/09/2007 16:05

Hi monthlymayhem
I can't wait to have a bump either. I'm just over 13 weeks so I guess I've got a long way to go. I only have a 'bulge' from eating too many cakes and not going to the gym

merryberry · 23/09/2007 16:52

complaints about not showing? here, have some of mine : i'm 17 weeks now and look about 6-7 months gone, courtesy of baby topped off by the displaced belly lard which is the lovely round bit over my stomach that people gaze so fondly at. i'm embarrased when strangers ask how far along i am, and i say '5 months' with fingers mentally crossed as i am >in< my 5th month. does that count?

piggyp · 23/09/2007 18:03

Monthlymayhem, I'm not showing at all either and I'm 16+6. I check every morning and can't wait to have a bump either!

Everyone seems very organised researching prams and nappies etc, I haven't even thought about them yet - should I be? I don't even know what a doppler is .

Also any ideas on coping with a stinky cold?

spugs · 23/09/2007 19:27

turtle - ive used reusables on dd2 since birth (shes 17 mth) and found it best to try a few different types. i used disposables for the first week or so then had a selection of tots bots, mother ease onesize, sandys and fuzzi bunz to try which i used for a week or so to see which i liked best. for me the fuzzis were my favourite, slim fitting, quick drying, fully fleeced lined so no wet bums. i know some shaped babies leak in them and my dd does occasionally but normally when its been on for hours. so during the day i use fuzzis and on a night a minki huggle (huge nappy) with a pair of wool trousers over the top im thinking of etting a few wonderoos for my new baby, there a birth to potty nappy but are the same type as the fuzzis.

anyone interested in using them should have a look at the online shops at the different types then order one each of a few different types. in my opinion i would go for a fuzzi, motherease one size, tots bot and a motherease riki wrap to give yourself an idea of the different kinds (though there are hundreds of kinds)

phew can you tell i really like nappies!!

fitandforty - can you not ring your mw and go for a check up? could be something to do with the placenta or cervix etc

have another scan tomorrow lunch time so shall finally know when im due - reckon between the 20th and 27th

e14mum · 23/09/2007 19:50

Hello!
Anyone else sitting with streams of tears running down their face at the stupidity thread?
I bought a pair of black maternity work trousers from Red Herring at Debenhams today! I can't believe that I'm going to fit in them properly soon. Sorry to all non-first-timers for sounding a bit daft... but it's still hard to believe!
Figleaves.com do a good range of sizes and styles in bras- I know you can't try them on, but it's easy to return stuff and I think there's a 20% off code in Marie Claire this month?

turtle23 · 23/09/2007 20:01

e14-yes...me too!
spugs...thanks for that. I have this unfortunate need to get everthing sorted early and i worry it would drive me nuts trying them all out. Am losing interst in the idea, I'm afraid. We'll see.
I have no bump yet (14 wks)though I don't know if it's because I'm quite thin, but I fel like my insides have shifted (does that make sense?) If I twist at the waist I feel "something" is different.

OP posts:
merryberry · 23/09/2007 20:56

smiles at turtle and confesses her love of disposable nature nappies (never, ever leaked for us) and moltex when I can find them. am not sold on the effort of reusables being worth the carbon footprint reduction. in a family with barely any carbon footprint anyway.

MarchMum · 23/09/2007 21:24

turtle 23 - i feel exactly like you - 17 weeks and v.little show and I can't twist at all. my dh keeps worrying about me lifting things but I can lift whatever I want yet can't 'twist' an inch!

in laws are making my hormonal rages surge today. had to tell posting rather than my dh!!

monthlymayhem · 23/09/2007 23:17

Thanks for the tips on where to shop for bras! V. pleased to see the Elle Mcpherson range does some in my size so will be treating myself

HolidaysQueen · 24/09/2007 07:31

Morning all - miserable weather here in west London and I've been awake since before 6am. Sigh - I am so sick of being knackered in the evenings because I'm sleeping badly rather than because of proper pregnancy fatigue.

monthlymayhem - did someone mention bravissimo? if not, then try them. i love them - they have lots of lovely bras in lots of sizes you can't get on the high street.

pinkmartini - don't be that impressed with me - it was davina's special pregnancy DVD, and it is very very gentle indeed... It's the sort of thing that would be more suitable when I'm much bigger I guess, but I figured that even a little bit of gentle exercise now is better than none at all and if I get into the habit now then I may actually bother to do it when I am much bigger. And the stretching and toning bits are really relaxing.

Speaking of getting much bigger, I'm 14 weeks today and have quite a podgy tummy - it's just my usual belly flab, but it seems to be moving more into a baby shape. Or that's what I keep telling myself as I eat yet more cake, crumpets, roast dinner etc...

Hope everyone has a good Monday - I'm looking out of the window at the torrential rain and trying to be positive - the week can't get any worse than a rainy Monday morning, surely!

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 09:25

I have to admit I'm loving the weather today. Have the day off, no husband, just a big hot chocolate and curled up in my dressing gown. Luxury!

OP posts:
HolidaysQueen · 24/09/2007 09:39

oooh turtle, I think I hate you! I actually braved the tube/bus rather than just driving to work so feel quite proud of myself given the atrocious weather, but I really rather would be curled up at home with a hot choc than at my desk without one. Sigh.

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 09:41

HQ-Has to be said though, DH has been away for 10 days now and am bit sad. Also, am in dressing gown because I only have 2 things that still fit and they're not dry!!
Hot choccy still nice though!

Good morning ladies. Hope everyone is fine and dandy despite the miserable rain. It has brigthen up considerably so might be a good chance of not getting soaked again on the way home

Had quite a relaxing weekend; went to see a good friend's new baby boy. He's sooooo gorgeous, only 7 weeks old. I felt all soft and squishy inside when I had a cuddle but so nervous though as his head is still a bit floppy. Must admit felt a bit relieved when I handed him back and then suddenly thought, OMG I can't do that with my own, what if I can't cope??? at the thought! We came home all excited about our beanie though .

Anyway, friend reckon we could be having a girl on account of my bad MS. So what's the consensus out there amongst you ladies in the know? Are you more likely to have a girl if you have bad MS? Wasn't bothered about sex of baby as there's 50-50% chance and either sex is a blessing but must admit I'm a bit intrigued now !

x

timmyinatizzy · 24/09/2007 10:44

I was adamant that I wanted to wait until the birth to see whether it would be pink or blue...but I've been having second thoughts this weekend. Dp and I have been talking practicalities, and names and I've nearly been swayed. Had a really vivid dream that at my next scan I could move the ultrasound thing on my own belly without anyone looking and see what sex it was. It turned out to be a boy in my dreams. That could be a subconscious thing though as I would dearly love a boy. I had a CVS at 11 weeks and could of found out the sex then, part of me wishes I had, but I still want the surprise.

My1st, I have had no morning sickness whatsoever, so maybe I will have a boy. But then again my mum said that she had no morning sickness when carrying me??

Well I think I have dried out now. Got so wet getting into work this morning. Really envy you turtle being able to snuggle up in your pj and dressing gown. It seems a lot clearer now out there and the sun is trying to come out. Must get on with some work today. Will lurk through the day though.

preggersagain · 24/09/2007 10:50

hello ladies- hope you all had a good weekend, i've come back to work for a rest i'm already nesting, it consisted of watching dh empty all the kitchen cupboards, wash everything and then put it all back tidily!!

Little lamb nappies are good but they shrink considerably and are more bulky than tots, also the velcro doesn't last very long so after a while you have to nippa them, they are good but i wouldn't buy an entire set, not sure what their new bamboo ones are like, the wraps are c**p apparently! the best wraps to use are motherease, and for newborn wraps the junior joy ones are great!

e14mum · 24/09/2007 11:06

Part of me is desperate to know, and the rest convinces me to wait!
Maybe we should all predict what we think we're having based on the folklore? Could be an interesting little study...

turtle23 · 24/09/2007 11:19

According to old wives' tales your baby's heartbeat is faster if it's a girl. Going by this and the lack of morning sickness that's what I'm having! I think that there is no rhyme or reason, myself. My mum was desperately ill with me and my DH's mum was desperately ill with him.

OP posts:
turtle23 · 24/09/2007 11:21

pregers...I think that I am going back to what I know and doing the diaposable thing for at least the beginning. Too many nappies to choose from and everyone says something different!
