agrees with turtle, newborn babies need to lie flat, which they cant do in car seats.

also i do know that my friend whos baby was slightly prem, was told by the paediatrician (sp) that he shouldnt be in the car seat for any long period (over 2hrs?) because it is harder for them to breathe as they are sort of a bit scrunched up? or something like that, i will have to ask her again as i cant remember.

i am excited as i am getting some nappies tomorrow off a friend, some popilinis to begin with and then i am ordering wraps of another friend

plus i am also picking up my loola, i still use the frog everyday but wanted something that was easier to fold etc for the car, dp just rolled his eyes and said 'whatever' ds3 will be able to use it for a bit, but i have to get a liner so that he doesnt get the seat unit dirty etc.

i am 17wks now, still no bump, tho when i lay on my front i can kind of feel that there is something there ifykwim? and i think dp is coming round to my point of view about finding out the sex so knowing my luck the little bean will probably have its legs crossed so we cant see

off to make fairy cakes for a bday party tomorrow

monthlymayhem · 22/09/2007 02:04

Hello everyone!

Posting at 2am and very proud of myself, as was out for my friend's birthday tonight and managed to stay awake....well, ok I had a sneaky snooze before i went out which is why I'm still feeling wide awake.

Saw my friend's 3 week old baby last night, he is absolutely gorgeous! However, just holding him made me realise how completely and utterly useless I am at even knowing how to hold a baby. I've never really been around babies so even holding him was a bit scary , and I kept worrying that his head was so floppy...I'm hoping that it all comes naturally when it's your own???

Have a good weekend all!

modsaluk · 22/09/2007 08:16

Good morning everyone.

I am not able to come to the party thing today, i only come on the this thread on thursday so was a little late plus i live in
Hull - East Yorkshire so a little too far away.

But i hope you all have a fab day.

It has been my morning with our DS was dreading it as i have had headache since found out we are having twins but feel great today.

preggersagain · 22/09/2007 09:44

travel systems are the root of all evil imo (and they're ugly!!)

sorry

glammama · 22/09/2007 09:50

Morning all,

I can stay out of the travel system debate as we don't drive- so no need. Unless you can get a travel seat that will fit on the back of DP's motorbike Talking of motorbikes I am seriously missing the bike rides and cannot imagine when I am ever going to be able to get back on.

Modsaluk, unless everyone is keeping it a secret from me there is no meet up today. They're in a few weeks time. But I guess Hull is a little far away. Btw, I love Hull. I nearly went to uni there but didn't get the B in History I needed.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I have a lot of decluttering to do so DP can move in!!!!

littleducks · 22/09/2007 10:31

hi everyone, i have been checking this thread but not posting much, was in hosp yesterday as my sickness is bad atm. i have been controlling it well but as i have a cold it all got a bit much.

I had to self discharge after a big argument with the drs, as they wanted me to stay overnight and i know from bitter experience overnight on a fri means all weekend and dd is starting to get a cold so needs her mummmy.

Poor thing has been dumped in front of cbeebies most of yesterday.

tori32 · 22/09/2007 14:27

Hi frannie, it is best for babies to lie flat when possible. My travel system has a carry cot insert which clipped inside the pram. I only used the car seat part to do shopping as its very handy if baby falls asleep in the car, you can just get him/her out in the seat and attach to a supermarket trolley! Or clip in the pram occasionally for no longer than an hour or so ( usually feeding or changing needs mean they are always got uot regularly anyway! )

turtle23 · 22/09/2007 17:57

Those of you in the know about real nappies...does this look like a good deal and are they any good?

thanks tori - v helpful. Wow turtle, £135 for the nappy set!!! is that how much they are (flabbergasted noises coming from my sofa) yikes. hmmm. must start saving cash....

turtle23 · 22/09/2007 19:14

Frannie..the ones I really want seem to cost about £25 each nappy in total. How frightening is that?

fitnforty · 22/09/2007 22:06

I know I probably shouldn't be worried, but I'm 17 wks tomorrow and just found some bright red blood when i wiped No pains or anything though I may have overdone it a bit today with shopping in town followed by hell round Tescos. Any reason for having a bit of bleeding at this stage?

tori32 · 22/09/2007 22:14

FNF try not to worry , it does sometimes happen and can be a burst blood vessel. If you haven't got any pain it should be OK. No clots or anything?

fitnforty · 22/09/2007 23:01

no, no clots or anything like that - and really very little! Just a concern when it's bright red isn't it, you can't help being paranoid!

Aside from that, just found out when i spoke to my mum this evening that I forgot all about her birthday so feeling mortified about that, no matter what excuse i have

Hope tomorrow's less clumsy!

tori32 · 22/09/2007 23:04

Awe hun, sorry you had a bad day. This might be TMI but I had bleeding the other day after a bit of HYF IYSWIM!! Not happened since though. Could that be a cause?

turtle23 · 23/09/2007 01:22

FNF-I'm sure you'll be fine. Tomorrow's a whole new day. Your mum was pregnant once, she will surely understand.
I've just gotten home and it's 120! Went to on of those dinner parties that wouldn't end. Dinner wasn't served til 930 and despite my telling the host what I didn't eat we had smoked salmon, parma ham, goat's cheese, alcohol on the fruit salad...yes i did just eat it anyway, but it does make me wonder what she'd have given me if I hadn't given her a list!
Have a good Sunday all!

MarchMum · 23/09/2007 10:43

Good morning!

have just finsihed an excellent book if anyone's interested - 'from here to paternity' by andrew cullen. it's the diary of pregnancy form a man's perspective - put me in touch with that side of things (saw 'myself' in his wife), and really funny. i laughed out loud sveeral times. a good break from the mountain of other how to books. originally bought it for dh but he, of course, was lukewarm!

glammama · 23/09/2007 10:53

Morning all,

Fitnforty, how are you this morning? I can only echo what the others said, no pain or clots is a very good sign.I also had some bleeding after a bit of hyf, but a little strain can sometimes cause a harmless bleed.

Marchmum,
I bought that book for Dp as well. Hopefully I'll get a chance to read it when DP has finally finished it

I'm putting off the clearing up because this thread is so very funny

HolidaysQueen · 23/09/2007 11:27

Fitnforty - my midwife made a point of mentioning that I may bleed a little even in second trimester and said so long as it doesn't continue or happen very regularly then I shouldn't worry.

I'm entertaining the in-laws today - fortunately DH is a dab hand at making a roast dinner so we're having roast pork and crackling (oooh, salivating just thinking of it - sorry to any veggies reading!) and I'm baking a cake for afternoon tea. I think we are desperate to prove that we'll be fit parents for their grandchild

I did the Davina DVD yesterday - had a really sore back all week but think a bit of gentle stretching actually helped. I also bought some maternity jeans yesterday, squealed at the prices of cots in John Lewis and am currently bidding on eBay for a lovely maternity dress - so a bit of a pregnancy-tastic weekend!

Turtle - I'm interested in those nappies too as the kits seem to be a good deal and I like the sound of the company as well. Any of the second/third/fourth timers got any thoughts on them?

turtle23 · 23/09/2007 11:48

HQ- I've asked around and had some good feedback about them. Am ordering a trial one and forcing friend with newborn to try it! Will let you know.

OP posts:
derah · 23/09/2007 12:24

FnF - hope everything is OK

Turtle - Little Lambs are OK, but are a cheap copy of Tots Bots which are more popular and probably better. I would really not advise getting a whole set of one kind of nappy because you might not like them and then you'd be stuck with lots instead of just a couple and would have wasted lots of money. Buying a whole set does look much easier and quicker but most cloth veterans would say it's a bad idea. Not sure you'll need 10 wraps though, and the bucket looks a bit small....

That being said, if you really want to go for a set, there are much worse ones you could get than Little Lambs.

monthlymayhem · 23/09/2007 12:37

Fnf - hope you're doing ok today, as others have said try not to worry xx

Do any other first timers still not have any sign of a bump (I'm 15 wks on Tues)? I know I should be quite pleased about it, particularly as I'm trying not to tell work for a bit longer, but at the same time I would really like to start feeling like I have a bump . Went shopping yesterday, and bought a pair of the most fantastic maternity jeans from Dorothy Perkins for £20. Honestly I had totally imagined maternity jeans would be very untrendy looking, and these are fantasic skinny jeans So, I'd really like a bit of a bump now so that I can start wearing them!!

Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday, I'm just back from a pilates class and a relaxing swim and now feel very chilled out so trying to put off tidying the house by reading mumsnet instead!

monthlymayhem · 23/09/2007 12:42

forgot to add... I got my bra size re-measured in M&S yesterday and have changed from a 34D to a 32E and M&S non-wired bras only go to an E cup from a 34 onwards . So if anyone knows of anywhere that does larger non-wired cup sizes, but in small back sizes, please let me know!!

fitnforty · 23/09/2007 12:44

morning all, feeling fine now! Thanks for the support, much appreciated! No sign of any more blood after last night - and no, it wasn't as a result of any "fun" Haven't felt that way inclined at all, despite hearing my urges might increase, much to OH's disgust

Still feeling bad about my mum's birthday - she understands, but doesn't make me feel any better about it! Probably because my dad never usually makes a big deal if he even remembers, but apparently he splashed out and bought her some flowers

Also managed to screw up a paypal payment for something on ebay last night - used my mum's logon and paid on her card, so had to phone her back to get the full details so I could repay from my account to her card!

And then our pooch managed to scratch his eye or get something in it last night, so had to bathe that and felt all sorry for him...he's better today but still not fully recovered!

So far today, no disasters!

I picked up my Tesco/Huggies basket yesterday, very cute even though I won't use most of the contents
Got to go to Asda now to see if they have the Bounty packs in, as my voucher for that finally came through the post.

tori32 · 23/09/2007 12:44

Good morning all!

FNF how are you today? Hope you are ok.

Well I have had the laziest morning! Got up at 10am (big lie in for me!) DH got up with dd and took her to the park so I didn't hear her. Bliss
DD is now back upstairs for a nap and I thought I would also avoid the housework and come out to play for a bit!

tori32 · 23/09/2007 12:49

MonthlyMahem are you sure its not just that branch of M&S, because when I was pg with dd 2 yrs ago I got all my bras from there and I was a 38F by the end? Have you tried specific underwear shops?
