Yup - The Baby Parties start at 2am and goes n til dawn. DP sleeping soundly beside me not disturbed at all. tut.

It'll be reassuring tonight to know that you are all wide awake and struggling too. The girl at work behind me has been whinging all day about how tired she is - i want to poke her right in the eye and holler - 'you have no idea!' Although I'm sure the guy upstairs with the new 6 week old wants to poke me in the eye and say the same! He looks done in!

Just heard my friend has finally had her baby - she was over a week late and was finally induced on Saturday - 36 hour labour, 3 epidurals as they kept getting it in the wrong place and the dreaded episiotomy! Ewwwww.Mother and baby doing well tho and at home already. yay. By contrast my other friend had her first baby two weeks ago and had a breeze of a birth, she's tiny and baby was nearly a nine pounder - 12 hour labour, gas and air and not one single stitch.

Babies babies everywhere!

Pk616 · 19/11/2007 16:35

Jo - come over to brummie land, we've got allsorts! (not that I'm one to boast)!
there's Just kidding in digbeth (by the irish center) they do reduced priced furniture buggies n things (I think they're all x catalogue)and then theres mothercare mamas n papas blah blah etc! also in Shirley theres babies are us in toys r us and mothercare world.

I'm getting a cotbed from boots for under £100 (got to get the mattress separately) my parents have bought me a combination carseat (o-4yrs) DP's mom's neighbour has given us a moses basket. Dp's sis's best friend donated a highchair(not that we'll need it for months!)a bouncy seat thing, a swinging seat that plays tunes and a couple of baby carriers (you know, the back to front rucksacks you stick the bairn in!)Dp's mom's other neighbour gave us a bath and an exerciser (something else we won't be needing for yonks!) and mommy's buying me a combination pram/pushchair (starts life as a pram and with a couple of clicks and lots of faff turns into a pushchair)
We haven't figured out how we're gonna fit all of this into our one bed place yet so we haven't even started to think about chests of drawers and changing tables and the like!

Pk616 · 19/11/2007 16:48

Yes ladies there is a definate baby conspiracy going on!

I can sleep for hours in the day (sorry for those of you who have to go to work! when I suggested getting a temp job til xmas DP said no - I haven't had it easy and I think he was worried, bless) but at night its restless legs, followed by squirming bairn, followed by needing to change sides (also a front sleeper trying to adjust!) and therefore re-arrange all the pillows I've got around me to stop me sleeping on my front, followed by indigestion, which gives be a coughing fit and then its a rush to the loo to throw up and pee and the cycle starts again!

think she's trying to tell me something!

OOh and theres the four limbed thrashing I get when DP suddenly starts to snore (He's asthmatic and there are snores that sound like a cross between one of those pneumatic drills they use for digging up concrete and the gurgling you get when wine ferments in a demijon!)

93pjb · 19/11/2007 18:01

Sorry to hear about all the sleeplessness - I think I've been getting off fairly lightly in comparison but then I could normally sleep through a bomb going off in the next room... (I think the yoga helps a bit too with relaxation)

Have had a couple of nights of lying awake worrying about it all so decided to use my usual tactic of trying a bit of detailed planning - usually helps if I feel like I'm doing something about the thing I'm worried about.

So now I have a big list of everything I think I need where it might come from and how much it costs and guess what I'm now worried about how expensive it all is! I've really tried to keep it to a minimum and it is still way over 1000 and that's with my sister lending me her pram/pushchair thing.

How can such a small thing be so expensive??!! Have now decided I will have to drive to Scotland to see my sister at Christmas rather than take the train and raid her loft while she's busy with the mince pies ...

Egg · 19/11/2007 18:03

In my ante natal group we used to text each other at 2am whilst feeding our newborns, it really helped to know you weren't the only one up in the middle of the night dying of tiredness. Maybe we need to swap numbers so we can do the same to help us through the bad bits, I don't think I will be coming downstairs to log on but it's easy to keep your mobile handy!

Hmm, except if I do somehow manage to do tandem feeding (which I think is unlikely considering bf did not come easiest to me with just one), I wont have a hand free for the phone .

Right, off to bath DS, who is currently straining (again) for a poo. He has been having trouble ever since being ill, and they come out nice and beige [bleurgh].

beansprout · 19/11/2007 20:06

I think 2am texting is a great idea. That can be a very lonely time!!

NCT have nearly new sales and the only thing you have to buy that is new is a matress. E-bay is good for stuff.
I haven't thought about buying anything. My mum has said she will buy us a bedside cot and I know I want a sling, but am not sure what one. Apart from that, um, some nappies? Is there anything else?!

Egg · 19/11/2007 20:16

Hmm, don't think so. Oh, maybe some bedding, and clothes, for those having their first or who don't have anything from previous DCs. Maybe some cotton wool too.

Also invaluable to me but in no way essential was the bath support we had for DS like this, it meant we had both hands free to bath him, and he wasn't flailing around in the bath. We have been lent one by a friend so have two now hurrah! No idea how else you would bath twins together...

Egg · 19/11/2007 20:16

Oh, and if you have a puker like DS, you need about 20 muslin squares as you go through about 10 a day...

gingermumi · 19/11/2007 21:41

Sleeping really badly too, thought it was bad before but much worse in last week or so. Restless legs are driving me mad (lots of people had made suggestions but nothing helps). DD2 called it 'reckless legs' which is probably a better description! Just can't get comfy at all

Am reusing dd2's furniture but i found babies r us pretty good for the things we have bought and they were very helpful too. Bought our gracco sterling travel system there - they helped us to check car seat fitted and buggy went in the boot and showed us how to fold it. Seemed good value as well. generally babies don't need much and most of what we are told they need is just marketing! Agree with new mattress though, if you do buy second hand a new mattress is a must.

tyaca · 19/11/2007 22:21

goodness - havent logged on since friday and so many new posts. wonder how busy these threads nearer our due dates when those of us working all go on mat leave!!

sorry to hear about troubled sleep. i sleep fine, but just had a curry and the bloatedness has given me a severe case of ChronicTitAcheItis

Pk616 · 20/11/2007 08:18

I slept the whole night through!!!
I didn't even wake for the loo!
The bairn was doing strange things as I was trying to get off to sleep, she was turning or something, but it felt most odd! She's doing her usual taps to music at the moment (probably just hiccups, but I like to think she's gonna be a musician like her Da!)
Off to see the midwife this morning. She is a miserable cow that always seems to hate her job but I'm looking forward to it anyway 'cause it means I get to hear Ky's heartbeat for the second time!!

beansprout · 20/11/2007 08:39

I was awake for 2 hours in the night (combination of ds and restless legs) but was thinking about some of my fellow moose being awake too!

Egg · 20/11/2007 09:32

Woke up at 4am with excruciating stomach pain that turned into hunger pains. Wandered downstairs at 4:30am (bypassing the computer) and ate three choc bics. Felt better so went back to bed but then lay awake feeling sick until DH's alarm went off. Such a waste, as DS slept til past 7. Still feeling sick and not managed breakfast, which I never normally miss. Have heard morning sickness can return in later stages .

Just realised that in two months time it will be 20 Jan. I really don't see myself still being pregnant by then. That means I have SO LITTLE TIME LEFT. Where did all those months go?

I get very occasional restless legs but thankfully the odd twitch in the night and nothing serious, must be so annoying for those of you who have it badly (is it painful or just irritating?).

excitedm2b · 20/11/2007 09:34

I slept all night too - miracle!! Didn't even wake up at the alarm until DH starting poking me! I went to yoga last night so maybe it really does help 93pjb!
Also some wonderful man gave me his seat on the train this morning so today is going to be a good day!

Egg - we went for a bugaboo cameleon in the end - thankfully half funded by the in laws, bless them! It just seemed to be the easiest to manouvre for us and everyone we know who has one thinks they're great.
As for baby furniture, we are borrowing a moses basket from my sister, along with a bouncy seat thing. Have ordered a cotbed and then the rest is just stuff that is already in the spare room (chest of drawers and it already has shelves).

Egg · 20/11/2007 09:42

I like the Bug... I think it is a fine choice .

All our furniture apart from the cotbed was just stuff we had anyway too. Never got a changing table thing, just had a "cot-top changer".

Still feeling sick. Bleurgh.

milki · 20/11/2007 10:58

Morning all!

I posted briefly last week and haven't had a chance again since then - anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the warm welcomes and to join in the no sleep moaning. I am finding it really difficult to share a bed at the moment, really wish we had a spare room beacuse I need some space at night! Poor DP is feeling unloved, but I can't help it and all my tossing and turning is leaving me knackered.
And while I'm moaning..... baby feels like a big uncomfortable lump just above my bladder / under the (elasticated) waistband of my skirt today - it is making me feel quite queasy. Do you reckon I could get it to move? Any suggestions (bearing in mind I'm at work so getting on all fours and wiggling my bum in the air may not be possible!)?
And... not finished the grumbling yet - how can I amuse my 18mth old this afternoon when the weather is this bad (blowing a gail and tipping it down here), I feel knackered and I don't really want to spend any money?

Sorry to sound so miserable! Must be the weather or something......

alkar · 20/11/2007 11:03

I am having trouble sleeping too, everytime I move I feel like I want to throw up. DH snores really badly so he has been in the spare room for a while now and I don't think I would be able to get a wink of sleep if he was next to me.

The LO has been head down for a few weeks now but his bottom is firmly wedged under my ribs making sitting up uncomfortable!

Have put a couple of scan photos on my profile page!!!

Egg · 20/11/2007 11:14

Ahhhhhhh the scan pics are gorgeous Alkar! I am so of 4d scans...

Still feeling really sick. Have had some dry bread. Also got a head wedged in my pelvis which has made my jeans dig in more, making me more uncomfortable.

Also wondering what i will do with 21 month old DS this pm as it is raining.

Oh shite, realised we have a swimming lesson this afternoon. It will kill time, but will probably also kill me. He kicks me a lot in the pool as he gets a bit overexcited.

There you go milki, swimming! Perfect solution .

Egg · 20/11/2007 11:15

Our new double bed for spare room arrives tomorrow. I think I will be moving up there as soon as it is installed. I woke up DH a lot last night, making him miserable as well as me .

milki · 20/11/2007 11:26

Maybe I will brave the bikini and go swimming this afternoon - at least it will knacker DD out as well as me and hopefully we can both get an early night. It is shameful but I don't have a maternity swimming cossie and can only fit in my bikini, am happy to show off my new boobs and I don't think my bump is offensive - it just goes a bit wrong from there down.... all those extra chocolate bars are gathering as wobbly celulite on my bum/thighs at the moment.... and I am a bit worried what the 'ladygarden' might be up to down there , but I can hide that under the water I suppose! It still stings a bit paying nearly £4 for a swim though (I am feeling really stingy at the moment) but small price to pay for an easy(ish) afternoon ?

leesmum · 20/11/2007 11:48

Hi everyone, sorry to hear some of ypu are'nt getting a good nights sleep. Sometimes don't you think that even if you got 10hrs at night AND a nap in the day it still wouldn't be enough. I seem to be shattered all the time, its just as well Ds is a good sleeper. He goes off at 7.30 and pretty much has about 12hrs so i am getting in bed a bit earlier myself.

Alkar your pics are great i would love to see babys face, i have a feeling he will look just like my other gorgeous boy (DS not DP!) Happy belated birthday for sun, did you have a good one?

Well i have started getting stuff together for my hospital bag, it doesn't hurt to be a bit prepared and to be honest once you write everything down that you need it soon adds up. I think i will try to have a small bag and leave another bigger one at home that Dp can bring if i need to stay in more than one day.

Tallulah1978 · 20/11/2007 12:04

Humph. Grumpier today than yesterday. Very very tired. Went to bed about 11pm, normal- time, tossed and turned for a couple of hours, so dropped off about 1am, then was wide awake at 4.30am and that was the end of that til I got up for work at 6.30, by which time I was just about to drift into the most delicious sleep. grrrrrr. And when i woke up I was kind of half way onto my belly! Poor baby! Need to use cushions I think to prop myself and stop that from happening. My back has started killing me in bed after a bit, and we have brand new memory foam mattress.

My boss is out for most of the day and I have nothing to do. I am so bored and it's making me even more tired. My colleague is a bit dippy and goes on a lot so she's doing my head in and as I'm so tried it's dificult to bite my tongue and hide how much she's grating on me today. Oh, how I want my duvet.

We already have a moses basket given from a friend but have been looking at cots which my parents are buying. Finally decided on an East Coast Ann in white - but everywhere is out of stock as they have had a manufacturing fault - so that's out the window - back to the drawing board! Rang DP to tell him, he was so grumpy and said I have to wait until we go to the Mamas and Papas Factory Outlet, which he has been promising for weeks. Tut. Have decided not to stay cross as am probably being very unreasonable today.

Going to eat my beef stew and dumplings now and then go and be grumpy in a corner on my own.

Might come back on and have a moan this afternoon. TTFN

Bessie123 · 20/11/2007 12:07

I always sleep on my tummy. Is it bad for the baby to do that? I kind of thought that if I was squashing the baby, it would be uncomfortable..?

excitedm2b · 20/11/2007 12:42

Tallulah, don't know whether you've seen it but I got one of those Dream Genii pillows that has a long bit down one side and then a short bit on the other. Helps me not roll back over onto back. Sorry, crap explanation but you might see what I mean better here Won't pretend that I sleep brilliantly but it has helped... DH prefers it because when I rollover I don't have to reorganise 10 pillows but does think I prefer the pillow to him!!

Tallulah1978 · 20/11/2007 13:02

Hi Bessie - I don't think it's necessarily bad for the baby; I think rolling onto my belly is probabably what woke me up as I find it quite painful and uncomfortable at this stage. Pre-pregnancy I always slept on my belly. I'm sure the amniotic fluid protects the little one, I just imagine the little mite being squashed in there.

All I know is that the recommended prime position to sleep in is on your left hand side - it helps your kidneys drain toxins (??I think i read) and increases blood flow to the placenta. I've heard sleeping on your back after 24 weeks is a definite no-no as the increased weight of uterus and baby on one of your main arteries - bad for us and for baby. Although I keep waking up on my back too! I don't think I would be able to sleep soundly on my belly if I tried!

Hi excited - I did see one of those Dream Genii pillows - bit pricey at £30 though - am trying to find budget friendly alternative.....

Am entering serious grumpy tired phase as I have now finished my lunch and realise I have four and half hours of being sat at my desk, followed by an hour commute in the wind and the rain and no seat on the bus before I can be in my bed. boo hoo.
