Ohh love try not to worry and if you are ask the midwife to get someone to come and explain what’s going on.

I’ve heard from various people that in some trusts they are testing both mums and baby. The likelihood is he might have a little infection but will be fine. My nephew was born at term last year and he had to go to special care and he was a good 8lbs so not tiny. He needed antibiotics and some oxygen through a special mask called cpap but he was fine. Sometimes babies misbehave a little or just need a bit of support but I am sure they are taking very good care of him and you will be together soon. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, you are his mummy. Just ask for someone to come speak to you when they are free. Big hugs lovely

Bumpingalong84 · 14/05/2020 23:58

And by infection I don’t mean covid by the way 🙈 if you have strep it might be that but seems like they are on it and covering him with antibiotics anyways.

sao81 · 15/05/2020 05:15

@Bumpingalong84 I'm guessing it was all clear as I haven't been told otherwise!
@123pandy congratulations on your arrival! Are you both home now?
@november90 congratulations!! 9lb 13oz omg you said he would be big as well didn't you! Lucas' oxygen was borderline so he didn't have to go the unit but did need an incubator, they asked me some questions about infection, cough, temp etc. So my guess is it's protocol for them to ask with everything going on at the moment. You should still be able to breastfeed or at least express some milk for him, my cousin had 3 special care babies and was encouraged to give colostrum/breastmilk for all 3. Hope you are okay and both home soon

@123Pandy congrats, hope you are recovering well after the section!

@november90 woo hooooo well done you! Sounds like you did brilliantly.

Plenty of babies still to come! Cannot believe it's mid may already.

I know there was chat recently about setting up a post natal group for the May babies, is there one now on here? For my first a private Facebook group was set up for everyone in the thread and it was and still is fab, especially for everyone to chat during the night feeds 😴

MarshmallowsOnToast · 15/05/2020 07:58

Hope this works but I just started a post-natal May 20 group.

Not even had little man yet but am interested to follow along with all those that have had their babies now.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 15/05/2020 08:01

@november90

Congratulations! Can't wait to see a pic & the name you've picked out.

Nearly 10lb & hardly any pain relief! I'm in awe. Well done you, what a trooper. Hope you & baby are reunited soon.

So following my sweep yesterday where I had some tiny trickles of water & was told to phone the hospital if I got any more.. I've had nothing, nada, zilch! Most disappointing as I got home really excited and brought all my bags down ready just in case. Now they are sitting there taunting me that I'm going to have to wait until induction on Tuesday. I really don't want that and so hope things happen naturally before that point.

May2311 · 15/05/2020 08:29

@november90 - Congratulations!!! Try not to worry too much the docs will be looking after him but if there is anything you don't understand make sure you ask as they should be making sure your re-assured. Also try and rest whilst you can- you will need your energy when your little one is back with you for snuggles! They asked me all types of questions relating to Covid. Have you had the test? I think different trusts are doing it differently. Mine only tested me but I know some are doing mother and baby.

@MarshmallowsOnToast thanks for setting up the postnatal group! I'm in agreement - I have loved having this chat so it will be good to have one for now our little ones are arriving as well!!

Happy Friday everyone 😊 xxxx

Schlobbob · 15/05/2020 09:57

Congratulations @november90, think you've got the biggest May baby there, glad to hear the birth went well

No experience of babies in special care, my nephew had to go down for 1 night as they suspected infection and SIL was still able to breastfeed very successfully, definitely ask for as much help expressing colostrum as you can and agree with others, ask lots of questions :-)

MarshmallowsOnToast · 15/05/2020 10:19

Random question for those who are or are planning to breastfeed...

Have you bought a breastfeeding cushion/pillow? Not sure if ill need one to make things easier but also all the reviews I've read pretty much all say "this is rubbish, too small, wont fit round my waist" etc.

I'm no size 6/8 so if anyone has recommendations for any that actually fit round you I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Clairesoph · 15/05/2020 10:53

Aw @november90 congratulations, what a whopper! You said he'd be a biggen 😍😍 hopefully his and your stay in hospital is short lived, stay strong! Enjoy it all, I cannot wait to see him xx

november90 · 15/05/2020 11:49

Aww thank you all for the lovely messages! They said that they don't know exactly what is wrong with him, but they treat the symptoms so he's currently being treated for sepsis/strep b! He's in The incubator and I'm not allowed to hold him at the minute but I can't wait until I can! He's so lovely and precious and I'm so glad he's here! ❤️
Here he is, my sweet little Marley Robin!
We've already been through so much together through my pregnancy, I can't believe he's mine!

Anyone anxiously waiting for labour to begin.... the only thing I did differently the night before my waters went was expressing! I've read mixed opinions as to whether you should hand/pump express prior to giving birth... but I just felt desperate so I got my pump out and expressed a very small amount. I am CONVINCED that did it as apparently it releases hormones. As I said, mixed reviews and opinions so I suppose it's a person decision :)

@november90 big congratulations! Hope your little one will soon be well enough to be with you and you can have your first cuddles. He’s gorgeous x

Caspianberg · 15/05/2020 12:20

Congratulations to everyone with their new arrivals in the last few days.

For those of you wondering about clothes sizes, our little one was 8lb 8oz born 2nd May. So he is almost 2 weeks old. He lost 10%weight, and is now back at birth weight, he has grown 2cm already. He wore newborn for about 4 days, then has been in up to 1month. We have moved him to 0-3 month vests and sleepsuits from this morning as he was bursting out of the 1month ones when he stretched. Tbh he could have just worn the 0-3 the last 2 weeks also.

Clairesoph · 15/05/2020 12:27

@november90 he's gorgeous! He's in the best place, he will soon be out of there and in your arms 🥰

AlmostAlwyn · 15/05/2020 12:30

Congratulations @november90! Hope things get resolved soon and you can go home! Flowers

Naughtysausage · 15/05/2020 12:49

@november90 what a gorgeous baby! Congratulations! And hope you get to snuggle him soon.

@MarshmallowsOnToast I have an ikea v shaped pillow, which is not helpful whilst ikea is closed. But to be honest I remember a couple of small cushions being useful, as you can prop them where you need it and they don't take up all the space. However, I'm just going to give it a go with what I've got and Amazon prime something if I get too frustrated. The bb hug me feeding pillow has great reviews though if you're feeling flush.

woollycat · 15/05/2020 12:52

Congratulations @november90! I hope you and baby are home soon!

woollycat · 15/05/2020 12:53

First timer question - what do the contractions actually feel like at the start? I get some mild cramping on my right lower side - similar to period pain (my period pain has always been on the right side only). I understand this is very different from contractions. Are contractions more central and higher up?

CharlieB93 · 15/05/2020 13:24

@woollycat I would also like to know this! 😂 everyone I’ve asked just says oh you’ll know but every twinge has me on edge 😂

Babymamma192 · 15/05/2020 13:26

@november90 marley is gorgeous! Hope you can both go home soon and have lots of cuddles together!
Also think I might get my pump out tonight and see if anything happens!
Due tomorrow and still no sign.

Bumpingalong84 · 15/05/2020 13:32

@MarshmallowsOnToast I will be using my maternity pillow, I used it with my daughter and worked a treat as it’s nice and big, also used just a normal pillow sometimes too when I was at families house.

@november90 he’s gorgeous and gorgeous name. Sounds exactly the same as my nephew last year. They never really got down to what it was as he had a failed lumbar puncture but he was fine with it really. No fevers, came off the oxygen after a day and his infection markers cane down but he had a week of antibiotics. I’m sure Marley will be fine bless him, but it’s horrible when you have all the hormones raging.

I’m a children’s nurse, and when my daughter was born she had to go in and be treated for jaundice at 5 days old, even tho I’d looked after loads of babies under the lights it was the worse thing in the world and I just kept breaking down and crying 🙈 so I can’t imagine not being able to touch my baby. So big hugs sent your way and hopefully he’ll be all good soon and you’ll be home very soon Smile

AlmostAlwyn · 15/05/2020 14:24

@woollycat @CharlieB93 yep, definitely felt like period pains at the start! Just really mild at the beginning and gradually built up and got stronger so it's definitely not like the movies where there's a gush of water and you're bent over double screaming and clutching your belly Grin

@MarshmallowsOnToast I had a second hand bean bag type pillow from a friend, not branded or anything, nothing special. I didn't use it much at the beginning with my first, but later used it a bit more when he was bigger/heavier. This time round I'm mostly using it when I also want to balance my laptop there too Grin Otherwise, just using normal cushions.

Caspianberg · 15/05/2020 14:33

My contractions started as period type cramps I guess.
Started around 5am, but were fairly strong by 8am as in took breathe away and thats when I was already 3-4cm. Baby born at 4pm.

CharlieB93 · 15/05/2020 15:43

Are they exactly the same as period pains at the start? @AlmostAlwyn @Caspianberg ?
For some reason I’m imagining pain under my ribs (I suppose that’s because that’s where my bump is 😂🤷‍♀️) Is anyone else slightly gutted that your waters breaking isn’t actually normally as dramatic as in the movies ? 😀

woollycat · 15/05/2020 16:25

@CharlieB93 yeah exactly, I thought contractions would be higher up! Hmm, I really am not sure I will recognise them 🤪 especially as I said my period pain is always only on the right (no idea why) so no clue if this one will also be one sided for me.
