I’m not doing hypnobirthing but have a friend who had a traumatic experience first time round and she really benefited from it second time round!

My first experience was a little bit of a whirlwind as my waters broke all of a sudden at work and my contractions started about an hour later or so later. By the time I got to the hospital I was somehow 4-5cm with barely any contractions or pain. I couldn’t have a water birth as she was early so had to be monitored but just had gas and air, she was born 13hrs after my waters broke. I did need the oxytocin drip and an episiotomy in that time. But I think I was just in so much shock.

This time round I’m really hoping for a water birth and to be able to stay at home as long as possible. But we shall see what she has in store for me! Now she’s later than her sister I’m thinking it’s gonna be a longer labour haha.

Has anyone started hand expressing? I didn’t know it was a thing before baby arrived but I’ve just been asked by my husbands aunt who is a midwife support worker. She’s gonna drop me some syringes tomorrow and some raspberry leaf tea as well 🙊

Raindancer411 · 12/05/2020 07:58

@Bumpingalong84 I thought the colostrum collecting was more for people with GD. My midwife has not said anything to me about it and I saw her last week at 38 weeks.

GinUnicorn · 12/05/2020 08:30

I’m hoping for a water birth too. I tried hypno birthing last fine but found it didn’t really help when the big contractions kicked in. We are all different though and I’ll try some aspects again.

Twitwooo · 12/05/2020 08:43

@Bumpingalong84 no one mentioned it to me with my first 3 years ago but this time around I asked my midwife at my 36 week appointment and got the kit. Am now 38 weeks with a little bag in the freezer!

I can't see why not do it it can only help you and baby out should you need it and there are many situations where it's applicable. I had a normal low risk pregnancy and fast vaginal delivery with my first. My supply according to the midwife who looked after me was very good as well (was on a pump on day 1) but I still found myself being doubled teamed for expressing after birth as my dd was sleepy and also vomited at 12 hours old so needed yet more milk. This time around I won't have to add extra exhaustion to the mix, fingers crossed

woollycat · 12/05/2020 09:07

@Twitwooo what's in the kit? I won't see midwife until 40w appointment now so thinking of buying syringes on amazon - that's all that's needed right?

CharlieB93 · 12/05/2020 09:09

I’m 39+1 and nothing interesting has happened with my boobs 😂 are they supposed to be leaking by now?
Urgh I can’t remember the last time I had a good nights sleep - I’m averaging about 4 hours a night. I’m worried the babies going to come and I’m going to be too exhausted from not sleeping 😩

Twitwooo · 12/05/2020 09:10

@woollycat yes I received six 1ml syringes with caps on dubbed 'colostrum collectors' and a leaflet with guidance to hand expressing and storing. Think six is a decent number

Naughtysausage · 12/05/2020 10:39

I did hypnobirthing last time and found it so nice to be encouraged to lie down and relax!
I do think it helped with labour.
This time I've done the positive birth company digital pack and I don't love it as much as my course last time. But lots of it is good. @Rinoa you could try the Freya app, but it's not Christian specific. You could always write your own cards out? I bet Pinterest has good ideas?

As for the rejection of induction and sweeps, she's definitely very keen on that. Also, if you follow the course you'd think a bath/water birth is the ultimate in pain relief. Which makes me a bit give me a nice drug any time. BUT that sounds v negative, and actually I'm not. I make OH do the scripts and I do like the affirmations. You just have to sort of suspend any natural tendency you have to be cynical.

Naughtysausage · 12/05/2020 10:41

Also good luck today @facevalue !

november90 · 12/05/2020 10:42

40+1 today and my midwife app has been cancelled 🙃
Feeling really fed up! I just want to go to boots and get some nice shampoo and nail varnish and have a pamper this evening 😩
Told my midwife I'm extremely concerned about baby size so apparently the consultant will ring me this week about potentially being induced early. Baby is laying really high now so it's not safe to do a sweep :(

@facevalue im sure it's your c section today? Sending lots of love and luck! ❤️

123Pandy · 12/05/2020 11:14

@facevalue good luck!
@november90 I desperately want to go to boots and get some hair dye so I can cover my greys!! But feel too big to leave the house 😐

Having cramping on and off since last night...I hope he stays put. Csec date isn't till next week!!

AppropriateAdult · 12/05/2020 11:45

Good luck today facevalue! Keep us posted.
41+1 for me today... My consultant seemed so sure that I was about to labour when she examined me last week that I’m a bit disappointed to still be here now Confused But both my previous babies took their sweet time as well, so trying to be patient. Back in for a check-up tomorrow, I think she’ll want to make plans for induction then if nothing has kicked off.

Bumpingalong84 · 12/05/2020 14:09

Ohhh @123Pandy you keep that baby in there!!

@november90 Bahh that’s so annoying, I can just see my little one keeping me going till then 😩 frustrating! You are so do nearly there tho now. Did you have growth scans? I’m worried about the size of this baby, she was measuring 7lb1 at 36wks 😬

@Twitwooo exactly I think there is no harm in starting. His aunt gave me that pack too, with syringes, stoppers and info.

@facevalue hope all has gone well today. Thinking of you.

Saoirse7 · 12/05/2020 14:41

Good luck FaceValue!

November90, hopefully it'll happen any day now for you.

I cannot cope with the constant fatigue. Thank God I'm on maternity and can sleep during the day. I forget what it feels like to have energy (had iron checked and it's fine). Does the fatigue leave after baby is born? I know I'll be tired due to lack of sleep but at least I'll have a reason for tiredness, I hate being tired for no reason 😪

Raindancer411 · 12/05/2020 14:55

Just looked in the mirror and not sure if it's just where I been in the sun a bit more than usual. But my face has lots of dark marks and freckles on. Anyone else noticed any changes to their skin like that?

GinUnicorn · 12/05/2020 15:07

Good luck @facevalue thinking of you

Saoirse7 · 12/05/2020 15:10

Raindancer, I read that pregnancy can affect the pigmentation in your skin!

Rinoa · 12/05/2020 15:23

@Raindancer411 the skin around my areolas is so dark, usually it's the lightest on my body but since pregnancy it's become so dark as well as my nips and areolas . Think it's part of the hormones.

woollycat · 12/05/2020 15:31

@Raindancer411 my armpits have definitely gone darker, it's really weird. I hope they go back to normal colour after birth!

Twitwooo · 12/05/2020 15:49

The skin above my lip has gone darker in a way which makes it look like I haven't plucked my moustache in a few months permanently 😂

Raindancer411 · 12/05/2020 16:32

Thanks all, glad I am not the only one!! I cannot remember if it happened with my first, it was so long ago lol

Lu1u · 12/05/2020 16:43

Hi all, baby boy was born this morning at 11:16 weighing 8 lbs 7 Oz at 41+1 after a balloon induction which went in yesterday afternoon at 3pm. At 7am this morning the balloon fell out so I was 3cm and then a couple of hours later I was 10cm! I begged for an epidural but unfortunately they couldn't place it so did it all with gas and air in the end. It was the most intense experience I have ever had but he is absolutely gorgeous 😍

Lady7978 · 12/05/2020 17:21

@Lu1u that's fantastic news! Congratulations and well done. Hope you and baby are doing well...Flowers

helpasisterout · 12/05/2020 17:35

@Lu1u congratulations that's lovely news well done xx

CharlieB93 · 12/05/2020 18:19

@Lu1u congratulations! What a good weight too... hope you are both ok and will be on your way home soon 💕
