last time i couldn't see the needle it has hidden in a funny cup thing and didn't hurt at all just to reassure you.

welshmum · 08/11/2004 15:19

Don't know if I should say this but....I like having blood taken, I like watching the whole process. I find it quite reassuring. Am I odd?

Uwila · 08/11/2004 15:21

yes, you are odd.

Uwila · 08/11/2004 15:22

But, it doesn't bother me either.

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 15:41

Sweetheart - How can you be on ww at a time like this?!? This is the chance to eat and be merry! Make the most of it!

May sound saft, but what's a nuchal scan?? (Yes, am obviously a first timer!)

teabelly · 08/11/2004 15:42

Katzguk - it doesn't matter what anyone says...I can be quite rational until the moment they're about to insert the needle...then I turn into a screaming banshee

Welshmum - yep that's odd in my book...but then again who am I to comment - I'm the one who hid under the bed when they came to give me a pre-med for my last operation

welshmum · 08/11/2004 15:45

Knew it was odd but I'm happy in myself!

MrsWednesday · 08/11/2004 15:49

Reassuring isn't the word I'd use - fascinating though. I also like to watch so you're not a TOTAL weirdo welshmum .

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 15:51

scraggy - but I've got 1 bloody pound to go!!!!!!!

And welshmum - sorry but I think you are wierd!!!

lol teabelly - how mature of you

teabelly · 08/11/2004 15:51

Scraggy a nuchal fold scan is an extra scan that is designed to test for Down's syndrome and other chromosonal abnormalities, by looking at the fluid in the back of the neck, and then a blood test. The results are only assessments of your/your babies risk and not definite diagnoses...you will only get that with cvs or an amnio. But it just gives you an early indication of a potential risk. Some hospitals offer nuchals on the nhs, but for most people you have to have it done privately. HTH

teabelly · 08/11/2004 15:52

lol sweetheart - you'd never guess I was nearly 36!!

welshmum · 08/11/2004 15:53

I'm off home to contemplate my wierdness - see you tomorrow laydeez x

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 15:54

night WM

TB - you doo make me laugh - I have a vision of you hiding behind your bed in a backless gown - hee hee hee

Well that brightened my afternoon up!!!!!

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 15:58

Welshmum - thanks!

Sweetheart - In order to lose 1lb, you're going to have to lose about 3 yourself to compensate for "baby"!! Far too much hard work!

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 15:59

How depressing - that can't be true - I'm only 7 week - The baby can't weight that much yet!!!!!

it's taken me about a year to loose just over 2 stone - I'm not giving up on the last bloomin pound!!!!

teabelly · 08/11/2004 16:01

Sweetheart - when I had my final pound to loose my dh said all I needed was one big poo
typical man!

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 16:02

hee hee hee - someone said that to me the other day!!!!

Personally I was quite hoping the m/s would set in today and I'd throw up the last pound!!! Sorry - TMI!!!!!!

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 16:03

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Maybe take some Deflatine, that makes me go!

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 16:05

How do you count your weeks? LMP? Or from conception? I get so confused!

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 16:09

!!!!!!

Can I do that??? I was even wondering about going without my bra and knickers on - dh's idea - but you never know, it might work!!!!

I'm counting from LMP BTW as thats the way my doctor worked it out.

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 16:27

Well, I would be about 9 weeks then and I'd have no chance of losing 1lb at the moment!

berolina · 08/11/2004 17:18

Hi everyone on this thread. This is my very first post to mumsnet... I'm 27 and due on 1st June (so am nearly 11wks) with my 1st baby! (Sadly it's my second pregnancy though, as I had a very early miscarriage four months ago - and naturally am still petrified of losing this one, even though I'm long past the point at which I lost the last ). Thought I'd join you as I've been 'lurking' on mumsnet for a few weeks and really enjoy the talkboards. Anyway, had a scan on Fri (live on the continent and have been having scans at my gyn every couple of weeks) and baby was wriggling and kicking round like anything! It was so beautiful. Made the whole thing so real somehow and unleashed this huge protection instinct! Please don't hate me when I say that I haven't had a scrap of morning sickness! Am VERY tired though...

Can I already be annoying please and start off with a question? My dh is currently suffering from two cold sores (yum). He thinks I have had one too before but I can't remember myself (charming when your dh doesn't recognise half your clothes but remembers your facial blemishes...!) and think it is in fact possible I've never had one. We are very tactile and kiss lots and I'm afraid we didn't notice them until they were already definitely there. I've heard about herpes being implicated in miscarriage, can't find any unambiguous info about whether this also relates to cold sores, and am worrying again... Any ideas or experiences? Ta! Hope all is well with you all.

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 17:36

Welcome Berolina!

megi · 08/11/2004 18:37

Hi Berolina!

I have developed really bad skin recently - and my skin is usually quite good. I remember this happening last time too!

Feel awful still - constantly feel sick without actually throwing up. Yuk.
Am absolutely knackeered and literally want to go to bed when I get in at 5.30.

Please let this end soon!

Just popping in to see if you are all ok(I should be doing my Tesco order).

Berolina-I am prone to cold sores & have one ATM.I have never heard of them being implicated in m/c's though.I'm currently 10.5wks.Possibly the genital herpes virus is,but I've not come across Herpes Simplex (cold sores) being mentioned in conjunction with pg loss.My skin is pants too & although I had no m/s with dd or my ectopic baby,I am feeling pretty horrible with this one.Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who never gets it.

Must go for now-or we will all be starving if I don't get this order done.
