Morning all,

Hope you had good weekends. Took ds to his first firework display...expected him to cry and want to leave, but he was mesmerised and kept trying to catch all the 'pretty stars' bless!

Welcome to Scraggyaggy

Pandagirl - don't worry - I had some minor bleeding over the weekend but it's common to bleed around the time your period would have been due for the first trimester until your hormones settle down abit.

PinkArjuna sorry others have scared you my sister suffered from anorexia, had afew suicide attempts and suffered from depression, but no-one tried to take her two dd's away from her - infact they're probably what's kept her sane!

Twiga · 08/11/2004 12:10

Hey MrsWednesday, I'm fine - am at the o stage of cycle and hoping I'll make it onto the end of the due July thread. Sounds like you're all experiencing the varied joys of pg and hope the wind thing is a phase rather than a nine month experience.

Panda [hug], all the best for your scan thursday x

Tessiebear · 08/11/2004 12:25

Feel a real pig - have developed a liking for plain spaggetti with butter and parmesan cheese (bland but quite tasty) Just eaten a bowl of it and am now cooking myself another!!!! For something to actually taste nice and stop me feeling sick for a FEW minutes feels soooo good. Prehaps the second bowl will ruin the effect....

teabelly · 08/11/2004 13:14

Mmmm tessiebear that sounds lovely (esp as I sit here looking at my paltry sandwich I brought in for lunch ) and two bowlfuls are never piggy in my book, infact it's obligatory

Uwila · 08/11/2004 13:23

Awwww Pink, people say the dumbest things. I think the advice you've been dished is rather extremem. If you were an unfit mother, then perhaps your baby would be at risk of being taken. But, it sounds to me like you've got your life in order and your going ion a positive direction. I would think even the schmucks at social services could see that. I think if you take the attitude of yeah I had some problems, but I've worked through them and now I'm really excited about this baby and I getting an education so I can take care of him/her and give him/her a good life, and so on... Then I can't imagine that anyone would want to stip this baby from a mother who loves her.

Mind if I ask where the father is? Are you worried that he may fight for custody? Is he helping you out financially?

Best of luck! There loads of support on mumsnet. keep signing on here when you to chat.

Uwila · 08/11/2004 13:25

Ooo, I'm going out for dinner tonight, Italian as luck would have. That parmesan and pasta post is sounding really good.... mmmmmmmmm....

Scraggyaggy · 08/11/2004 13:34

Hello everyone!

I'm so jealous of everyone who's going for their scans - I'm sure I'm going to cry when I have mine, although it's a good few weeks away yet!

Our midwife is coming over on Wed night. Am a bit worried about what she might ask etc. (But I am quite excited).

Tessiebear - I've got two "non-alchohol" excuses. For those people I don't see very often, I just say I'm off colour and not drinking that night, and for those people I do see regularly I tell them that I've read "How to Contol Alchohol" by Alan Carr (He's the guy who did the Stop Smoking book, which most people know) and then they usually think how brilliant I am for having the determination to avoid drinking!! Try it!

I've just been out and bought a jp with beans (folic acid content), bacon (yummy content) and egg (protein content) - trouble is I want another one now!!

teabelly · 08/11/2004 13:48

Scraggy don't worry, there'll just be a load of form filling, about you, DP and your family medical histories. Then you probably won't hear from her again for weeks and will worry about that! I'm almost 11 weeks and haven't seen the midwife yet!! Hopefully she'll be around on thursday if she can fit me in. But with ds I think I saw her at about 7 weeks and then didn't see her until after my 20 week scan.

Decided to do a nuchal scan afterall. Has anyone else booked one yet? I have mine on Friday.

welshmum · 08/11/2004 13:52

Morning all, just finished reading back and catching up with what I've been missing.
I had a meeting early this a.m. about my new job which starts in a couple of weeks - I was dreading telling my new boss about being up the duff as it looks so bad. But he was just totally wonderful about it and I'm just so happy now - a real weight off my shoulders.
Apart from that am feeling ok really - think quite a few of my symptoms are lessening now (I'm more than 10 weeks though)
Glad you're a bit better katzguk
Your fireworks outing sounds lovely teabelly - can you remind me old your little one is? Dd is still quite nervous about unexpected noises so we decided not to risk it this year.

teabelly · 08/11/2004 14:07

Welshmum my ds is 2yrs 4mths. We've been priming him by talking about fireworks and showing them through the windows on friday (the display we went to was last night), but obviously the noise is somewhat deadened when listening from inside. Usually he doen't like loud noises so I was gobsmacked that he enjoyed it. How old is you dd?

Uwila · 08/11/2004 14:32

I'm actually having two nuchal scans -- both next week. I'm having an NHS one on Tuesday, and the Fetal Medicine Centre on Friday. I'm the skeptic of all skeptics when it come to the NHS. So I decided my one splurge on this pregnancy is a privat nuchal scan. And the NHS one I'm going to as well just because it's free. Hey, why not? It will be interesting to see if they come up with the same results.

I bet they hate patients like me.

Tessiebear · 08/11/2004 14:32

Scraggyaggy - i will try those alcohol "excuses" of yours!!! btw everything i eat at the moment i want 2 of!!!

Tessiebear · 08/11/2004 14:35

Uwila - Mrs two scans - hope they go well!!! When i had my 20 week scan with ds1 was told everything was fine etc. Then we moved house (and hospital areas) a few weeks later and they did another scan at the different hospital. I was petrified they were suddenly going to find something that they had missed and tell me something was wrong (was fine )

welshmum · 08/11/2004 14:41

On the eating front I forgot to mention my most bizarre meal so far - started with a ready made raspberry fruit jelly from Waitrose, moved on to a whole packet of there Indonesian prawn crackers, finishing with a quarter of jelly babies. Didn't feel remotely ill during or after! Anyone beat that?
Teabelly they're almost the same age - mine is 2 and a half. I did talk to her about the noises and we did try to look at some through the window but she was really reluctant and so I gave up - it was me who wanted to see them really! Hopefully by next year she'll be a bit more up for it.

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 14:44

uummmm welshmum - I'm salvating at the thought of prawn crakers - got my ww weigh in tonight - if all goes well I'm treating myself to crispy duck!!!! YUMMY!!!!!!

katzguk · 08/11/2004 14:48

can't get crispy duck here on a monday all the chinese's are closed

MrsWednesday · 08/11/2004 14:52

I've never popping in here again whilst I'm eating my lunch - you've put me off my salad AGAIN!!! Love the idea of crispy duck....

Pinkarjuna, your 'friends' sound delightful. How unhelpful of them to be so negative, it really isn't what you need when you have so much going on. You're right, some people also can't wait to tell horror stories - I got it all the time with my first pregnancy and never understood it at all. It's not as if you are going to change your mind just because someone tells you labour hurts!

Pandagirl03, please try not to worry, a small amount of bleeding is very common. I had it with my DS on several occasions and have also had it myself twice this pregnancy (of course, I came on here panicking, so I must try and take my own advice sometimes!).

My DS loved the fireworks, but we also restricted ourselves to watching them out of the window. He even told me his name was Firework on Friday bless him.

I'm thinking I'll probably have the nuchal scan too - when can you have it?

teabelly · 08/11/2004 14:57

Katzguk is it you who also has a scan this week? Is it a nuchal, dating or early preg one?

teabelly · 08/11/2004 14:59

Mrs Wednesday it's between 11+3 and 13+6 I think

Uwila · 08/11/2004 15:05

Teabelly is right on the dates. They prefer you go at week 12, just case your dates aree off by a few days.

MrsWednesday · 08/11/2004 15:06

Thanks teabelly. Not too long to wait then (I'm 9 weeks today). Good luck for Friday!

Sorry, I also forgot to say good luck to Katzguk for your scan on Wednesday. What time is it?

katzguk · 08/11/2004 15:08

scan on wednesday at 1.10pm so hopefully they won't be running late as its the second appoitnment of the afternoon. its a dating scan i get another at 20 weeks for abnormalities. plus they stal blood and wee!!!

katzguk · 08/11/2004 15:08

should say steal blood and wee!!

teabelly · 08/11/2004 15:15

it's the blood tests I'm not looking forward to...i'm very very scared of needles, and cry and shake like the biggest baby when they try and put a needle anywhere near me

sweetheart · 08/11/2004 15:17

teabelly - I'm a resus negative blood group (is that right?!?!?!)

Anyway, it the one where you have to have extra blood taken - GREAT - THANKS!!!!!!!!!
