Thanks insy - that's the answer I was hoping for!

insywinsyspider · 20/09/2007 11:32

lizzer - I read that the only reason they now say no alcohol at all is because women don't stop at one glass of wine - ie we just can't be trusted - less than 2 years ago I was 'allowed' 2 glasses of wine a week and MW informed me it would be dangerous this time obvioulsy have damaged ds for life

Lizzer · 20/09/2007 12:18

Yeah I'm tempted to get a base too but that's yet another expense! As long as safety is ensured then I might give it a miss...

Hmm yeah Suey2 my Mum is teetotal and always has been.... except when she was pg with us 3!! Stout every night. I'm sticking to the 2 unit rule this time too Insy, as dd is top of her class so shouldn't have to worry...

Had a glass of wine last night BUT I do feel more guilty about it than i did with dd - go figure??!!

Bouncingturtle · 20/09/2007 12:20

Ha! Knew the thing about peanuts was a load of bollux! I carried on munching my crunchy nut cornflakes, despite the advice to avoid peanuts.
that the medical profession think that just coz we're pg we suddenly lose all common sense. Yes we do get a little bit absent minded at times but that's about it!

insywinsyspider · 20/09/2007 12:34

if its an ISOfix base then it is slightly safer but most of the bases attach with seat belts anyway so there isn't much difference be I think it does make it easier getting baby in and out of the car and you don't have to thread the seat belt round each time

I've comprised this time and gone for one glass of wine a week... was still having peanuts and can't resist prawn sandwiches, think I've been good with everything else tho

think I'm going to leave a week earlier - just been sitting here planning what to do with my remaining holiday!

Loucee · 20/09/2007 12:36

Morning,

I've also had a few peanuts this pregnancy after I'd found out that you should only avoid them if you or your partner's family have a history of exczema or asthma etc. Will go and get a bag of those salt and vinegar coated peanuts now though as I've been craving them so badly!

Hope you're feeling better Nbg.

Insy, I'd use the annual leave to make November all 3 day weeks.

Lizzer, my friend's child had HF&M a month or so ago, I'd never heard of it before then. She went off her food but icecream helped her sore mouth and she certainly didn't refuse it!

Found this about the potency of Arnica:
"quote"The lower potencies (6C's and 30C's) contain more material dose of the remedy (though in reality the actual material dose in these remedies is negligible and therefore not poisonous), the strength of symptom they can treat is considered lower than that of the 200C potency. This is because of how homeopathic remedies are made - the dilution and succussion (shaking) of the remedies (potentisation of the remedy) makes it stronger.

6C and 30C potencies are usually used to treat acute symptoms. 200C's are used to treat very strong acutes or mild long-term illnesses and potencies above 200c are used in more severe long-term illnesses. This isn't followed every time but it is the general rule! 200C is quite a normal dose for childbirth - a strong acute!

Helios do birthing kits that contain Arnica in 200C potency as well as lots of other remedies that could be useful before, during and after childbirth in the 200C format. It also has an instruction leaflet for you to read before labour and your birth partner and midwives to consult during labour if you want to use remedies in labour.

hello all
just typed out a message and accidnelty deleted it. durrrr.
Hurray for the peanut news, but i never stopped eating peanut butter. It was one of those saviours during morning sickness so no way was i going to give it up. i'm sure a little bit of everything builds up a good tolerance in most hatchlings. And here here to a couple of glasses of vino a week.
My goodness a lot of fuss is made about all the things we shouldn't do, but i feel part of an extremely healthy generation. I am rarely ill, despite my mother smoking and drinking (not in alcoholic terms!) all thro pregnancy. And she ate liver. Mind you I am a short arse compared to my 6ft brothers, but i am a girl too so maybe meant to be smaller!
For those suffering from bad backs/hips/etc - i've had sacroliac problem for about 5 years now and in last two weeks have dedicated half an hour before bedtime to doing physio pregnancy exercises to help one's back. I also have taken to wearing this totally unsexy elasticated support thing round my lower back and already i can feel an improvement. Am quite shocked at how quickly i have felt better. I am lazy though and keep forgetting to do pelvics, so always do a proper set at night time whilst watching telly. Gotta make it as easy as poss to do.
So yeah, do those exercises ladies!

Suey what did you say about tummy going dome shaped? I noticed it other day when i sat up, made me laugh at looked like i had a giant boiled egg instead of a tummy! I can still see muscles at either side of stomach which is pleasing. But i have got loads of horrid veins on my legs...yuk! Will they disappear next year?

imagineafullnightsleep · 20/09/2007 12:44

Re. the car seat / base thing - I had a base unit with my car seat - and couldn't end up using it ! Check the back seats of your car - if they are slightly curved (as they are in most cars) from the window into the seat (i.e. not completely flat) then alot of the bases won't fit !! The seats that fit the easiest and quickest are the ones that are part of a travel system, (I could do mine one handed) but they only last for about 8 months or so (pending how big the lo is).

Neuro · 20/09/2007 12:46

p.s Insy - aren't prawns allowed anyway? i thought it was just raw shellfish that were dodgy?
i ate a load of oysters (raw) when only about a month pregnant eeeek. not to mention the cocktails and um a few jazz cigarettes. Ahem

Ambi · 20/09/2007 13:00

babyambi is now telling me off for the KFC i've just scoffed.... - was totally worth it. 6 weeks of work left and I'll be able to join you gals full time except for the odd stealth message here at work (that is like a swear word to me now...)

mimicakey is the pain in the ear or slightly behind?

OP posts:
Mrswizz · 20/09/2007 14:05

I'm going to get myself a Picnic bar! Its got nuts in. Yum.

mimicakey · 20/09/2007 14:07

Hi Suey, it's inside the ear.

nataliekiss · 20/09/2007 14:18

hi there my names natalie just recently found this page was wondering if anybody knows of any antenatal classes which take place in the stirling/ alloa area at all, im due in december and i have left it a bit late but feel i should try and go if i can can any1 help? thank you natalie x

insywinsyspider · 20/09/2007 14:26

hi natalie - try contacting the NCT (google them for a number) they'll be able to tell you if they are running any courses but they can be expensive, does your MW know of any?

Neuro - I thought shellfish was band due to food poisioning risks - if it is only raw stuff then I'm glad I'm still eating them!

On the car seat thing - get the shop to check the fit in your car some seats aren't as wide as others and you get 'buckle crunch' where the lower buckle won't fit round the seat

Ambi you just put the idea of a big mac in my head!

skidaddle · 20/09/2007 14:26

Hello all,

I've been ignoring the peanut and prawn advice anyway and do you know that in Frnace they RECOMEND 1-2 glasses of red wine per day??!! My mum drank and smoked 20 a day through both her pregnancies and although I wouldn't dream of doing that, I do think the guidelines go too far..

MM I didn't really think your DH wiped down the other women in the ward - it just took me a while to make sense of the sentence when i knew that couldn't be what you meant!!

Lizzer - glad your dd is OK - thought she couldn't have had foot and mouth and LOL at the culling!

I have taken the day off today and with dd away, have tidied and cleaned and put away all dd's old nappies (now that she is trained, yeeaaah) and made room for new baby's stuff. Have also put together a special 'baby feeding box' with lots of toys in for dd to play with when I am feeding. It has been great - feel all excited and ready for ds's arrival now, nesting instinct at 29 weeks???

Have also eaten a lot of frozen yoghurt and done some sudoku and am meeting mrskiddadle for dinner in town later - life is so easy without work and children to look after

nataliekiss · 20/09/2007 14:32

well i have not yet asken her but i was wondering if anyone knew of anything, also i have recently caught the cold a bad one at that im so ill its horrible but as my midwife said all i can take is paracetemol, was wondering does anyone know of anything else i can take? she said ther may b something but not that she could think of? nat x

suey2 · 20/09/2007 15:21

mimicakey this is unlikely to be a neck issue- BUT i have had exactly the same problem. I have noticed my skin is a lot drier and the pain has been much better since I started putting moisturiser inside the 'lip' of my ear (not down the hole!) before going to sleep. I am also turning a lot less and i think i am on that ear much longer, exacerbating the problem.
I also try to make sure that there is not too much pressure going through the ear itself by bashing the pillow and making a 'hole for my ear' so that more of the weight goes through the jaw, cheek and forehead.
If your pain feels down the hole i would get it checked out in case you have an infection.

OP posts:
mimicakey · 20/09/2007 15:34

Thanks Suey, I think I'll try switching pillows and bashing a hole, like you say.

Sooo bored today. But am going to aqua aerobics later so I might wake up a bit then.

fifisworld · 20/09/2007 15:52

Well ive just come back from my first day back to work after being on the sick.
I had to sit down with my manager and discuss my absence etc then he said that he's got me a job doing work 'offline' so i dont need to be taking calls and getting stressed etc, i just sit at my desk and do manual orders, paperwork etc.
Im so happy

mixedmama · 20/09/2007 16:05

Hi everyone,

I know the convo has moved on but just wanted to say MotherofZ that I get my eyebrows threaded as well.

Skidaddle - made me laugh again about DH wiping all the women down.

Had a meet up with a few of the mums from the January thread last night, really nice to out names to faces (and real names).

Would be good to do that on this thread, we just went to Pizza Express in Piccadilly, so if there are any London based (or fancy a heavily pregnant trip to London) then let me know as we are hoping to organise another for end of Oct / mid November.
