Sounds good to me fifisworld!

I'm trying to find someone to cover my maternity leave without highlighting the fact I've been doing f... all for the past year!

insywinsyspider · 20/09/2007 16:09

glad you're having a good day fifi

mimicakey - I'm trying to work up the energy for aquanatal tonight - I know I should go its just hard finding the motivation so late in the week!

skiddale and you getting all ready for baby's arrival - thats really exciting, I don't feel like I've had a chance to think about what we need, I have visions of this baby arriving and everything still being in the loft, spoke to dh tho and think we need a day off together to sort out spare room, ds was in his own room from 6 wks and don't think putting baby in with him that early will be fair, plus he is a great sleeper and I guess I could ruin that if baby wakes him up all the time.... anyone with experience of this? although how I would get another cot and change table in his room I don't know!

insywinsyspider · 20/09/2007 16:11

mimicakey - no one is covering my maternity leave - line manager told me today - now that really does make me feel like I've been doing f all for the past 5 months

Mrswizz · 20/09/2007 16:16

Mixedmama - that sounds a nice idea. I'd be up for a meal or meeting. I work 2 mins from piccadilly anyway.

suey2 · 20/09/2007 16:42

sounds good mixedmama- i will be on mat leave by then, so will try not to look too smug!

OP posts:
mimicakey · 20/09/2007 16:43

Poor insy! From the sounds of it you work pretty hard too. I really don't do anything :/

fifisworld · 20/09/2007 16:44

Why cant i not live closer so i could come

suey2 · 20/09/2007 16:44

oh, at the risk of another day of gross out info- sex. Quite limited positionally and really suprised DH with the strength of my pelvic floor contraction hrrm hrrm, if you know what i mean.
Anyone else finding it tough? having to be a bit more creative

OP posts:
mimicakey · 20/09/2007 16:48

Yep Suey, it requires a lot of creativity, just at a time when I'm not feeling particularly creative!

suey2 · 20/09/2007 17:46

can anyone believe that i am sitting filling out school applications for this baby? I can hardly believe it myself, however all my pals have insisted it is vital. Unless, of course I would be happy to drive about 10 miles to school every day.
Bonkers

Bouncingturtle · 20/09/2007 18:39

Wow, suey that is organised. And here was me feeling very proud of myself because I have acquired some covers for my Moses basket and fitted sheets for the mattress
I bought them from ebay for the grand total of £12!! The Moses basket I was given only had the hood cover (the hood is knackered - it won't stay put) so I'm taking it off, and the covers set that I bought is missing the hood cover so perfect for me. And a couple of fitted sheets for the mattress. Bargain!
Been to see Midwife, all okay, today I am 26+4, am measuring 30 weeks. I'm not entirely convinced they take my extra flab into account
Sex? DH spoons up behinds me and gets in that way!
Fifi - glad to hear your boss is looking after you, and same for Beckle too!!
BTW the sounds of it ML is a good indicator on how you are valued - in some cases not alot . My friend who's just had her baby is in the same situation, despite her having a very busy full time job, her ML is being covered by an existing staff member who only works part time .
I've already took on a temp lab tech for my ML - my job is being parcelled out to various senior members of my team (I'm the lab manager) and the temp lab tech will pick up the slack.

thelady · 20/09/2007 19:43

School applications, Suey - good grief! Most impressive that you know where you want the LO to go, and that you'll be in the same place in 5 years' time....

I don't think I dare plan that far ahead. I'm struggling with the list of things which must be done work-wise before I stop, never mind personal stuff like that.

vnmum · 20/09/2007 20:22

skidaddle - what sort of toys have you put in your feeding basket? i am looking for ideas for my DS who will be 2 when DD arrives. i know the first couple of weeks etc can mean long feeds and he is already wanting all my attention althoiugh, bless him, he has been putting teddies to "mamas", hes weaned, so im hoping that means he'll understand about his sister having some and wont get too jealous

MotherofZ · 20/09/2007 22:21

Evening all!
Just poping into say hello, was off work today due to bad pelvic/SPD(?) pain. In my awkward stiffness, kind of followed in NBG footsteps and fell down the last two stairs and slightly hurt myself on left hand side of bump. Was umming and aahhing over whether to go hospital or not, but felt loads of kicks which reaasured me.

Hope everyone else is well. of another meet up in London - mixedmama. Hope you had nice day off...

suey2 · 21/09/2007 07:57

thelady, get this. They charge you £50-£100 to put you on the registration list (non-refundable) and they shut the list at 150 for 22 possible places and then interview at age 2. So you have to apply for 3 or 4 schools, at birth, and as I don't know the flavour I have filled out 8 applications, for my husband to deliver by hand in a cab, the day LO arrives! No idea how good the schools are, I guess I will go and find out when junior is a bit older. All i want is a decent school that I can walk, rather than drive my child to: living in central london there are lots of schools, but lots of competition- sadly state schools are just appalling in the centre of town.

Loucee · 21/09/2007 08:16

Yay it's Friday!!!!!

Time for more pelvic floors! I've been trying to remember but appreciate the reminders on here. Also been sucking my stomach in but not as often as I should and finding it harder to the bigger my bump gets... anyone else find that?

Suey, oh what a faff having to do the school forms this early but totally understand and sympathise why you have to. Still, least it'll all be ready and DH can deliver the forms then you know it's taken care of and then can relax until interview time.
We're lucky that we have 3 really good primary schools with pre-schools attached so hopefully wont be too much of a headache.

MotherofZ, hope you're ok after your fall. Has the SPD got worse as a result? I hope it eases for you.

VNMum, there's a few of us that will have a similar age gap between kids, hoping to get tips from all of you! The feeding basket sounds great Skidaddle. Most impressed that your DD is out of nappies, any tips for us? I'm not in any hurry but at the same time DD does know what the toilet and her potty are for so if there's anything I can do to encourage her then great.

What's everyone doing this weekend? We're going pram shopping! Was going out for a meal tomorrow night with DH but inlaws have cancelled so no babysitter so I'm' going to cook something fancy instead.

skidaddle · 21/09/2007 08:18

oh dear poor you MotherofZ - are feeling OK now? Get lots of rest if you can

vnmum - I have put a jigsaw (if you can call it that - it has 4 pieces!), a book, crayons and colouring book, card and glitter (may regret that one), and some flashcard types things with animals on them into my box so-far. Once dc2 is here i will also put in some littel snacks like boxes of raisins. Am hoping to make the time when i feed the baby a time to look forward to for dd because of the special goodie box - we'll see how that one pans out...

BTW for all second timers, I have started reading a this book about having a second child and the impact it has on your family. I'm finding it really helpful and a little bit scary...

For example it says 20% of women get long-term (1 year+) stress incontinence following their first pbaby, 50% get it following their second and 80% following their third - has certainly made me think twice about having three (and sorry beckle, cazzy and other 3rd timers!!!)

can;t make meet up as would be 3 hours on the train

and admiration suey2 for getting your unborn baby into a school already - I ahven;t even thought about a nursery for dd who is nearly 2!!

MotherofZ · 21/09/2007 08:46

cheers Skidaddle and loucess - feeling a bit tender this morning, still stiff, but will see how I feel later.

Skid - I think your DS around the same age as mine (21 mnths)..??? If so, please share your secret about potty training!! I've finally got DD to sit on the toilet seat in the evening before her bath, but doesn't do anything! She tells me she is pooing but seems seem to want to do it on the toilet seat.

Good idea about the toy basket, going to see if I can do something similar, but fill it with 'In the Night Garden' things as DD loves it. That book seems really interesting!

Hope everyone else is ok...???

suey2 · 21/09/2007 09:02

hpe all you ladies are ok- spd and falling does not sound like fun.
My new mantra- let's not overdo it! I get the impression we are all trying to pretty much carry on like before and we are all finding it increasingly difficult to do so.
So, ladies, shall we all try and find 20mins us time during the day when we can put our feet up and read a crappy magazine?
oh, and PELVIC FLOOR

OP posts:
skidaddle · 21/09/2007 09:14

Wise words suey2 - that is exactly what the book I linked to earlier says - that we all try to continue on as normal through pregnancy and there is this sort of competition about who can be the most superwomanly but really we should respect our bodies for the amazing and exhausting job they are doing and rest - so feet up and eyes closed!

loucee and MotherofZ - dd is 23 months now and both dh and I are completely amazed that she is completely potty trained. I absolutely wouldn't advise pushing it or trying too early. We decided to give it a try because one day out of the blue she sat on her potty, did a poo and then applauded herself heartily for it. It wouldn't have occurred to me to start so early otherwise, especially if I had a ds rather than a dd. Sounds like your dd is getting there MotherofZ - I'm sure she will let you know when she wants to start. We found the first 4 days or so really trying and then it was a breeze. Good luck and cod's training camps on the nappies/pott training forum are brilliant!! Oh and stickers as a reward for anything deposited worked a treat too - good luck!!

BTW has anyone bought a maternity coat? Seems a ridiculous waste of money for only three months but none of my coats do up anymore so I can't freeze for the next three months either...

Lizzer · 21/09/2007 09:28

I pelvic floored from skidaddle to suey2 just then Must keep trying. That IS a scary thought Skid BUT I'm sure that the 50% of 2nd time rounders haven't done their pelvic florrs at all and we'll be the other 50 smug percent (or at least that's what I'm telling myself as I don't want to be a dribbly wee-er!!!)

Suey, I can't believe you have to do those forms- but understand why. It IS insane though (although I had dd's name down for Rainbows at 6m old!!)

Ah you London lot wih your big city and great public transport system, have a lovely meal without me won't you

Hope the pain eases off some more MotherofZ
Bouncingturtle - good bargain hunting skills!!!

Off to work in an hour - boooooooring, but quite relieved to have a break from dd since tues as dropping her off at my nana's..I don't think I'm very good with children hahaha!

God I'm in a cynical mood today, no idea why- blame the hormones...and because I want some new clothes but I have no money -waaailll!!

Have a lovely weekend everybody

MotherofZ · 21/09/2007 09:31

Skid - What I done with my last pregnancy was to carry on wearing my original coats, but have a pashmina tied around my neck and let the flappy bits drop at the front to keep me warm, which was ok, but admittedly did feel the chill when it started to snow. Like you mentioned, really don't want to be splashing out on a maternity coat for a few month. If need, think I might pick up a cheaper larger sized coat instead.

suey2 · 21/09/2007 09:32

skidaddle- no maternity coat, but got a couple of lovely long cardies from H&M mama. They fix with one button and go down to my knees- really cosy! and cheap as chips

OP posts:
skidaddle · 21/09/2007 10:14

I have found a coat on jojomaman-whatever-it-is for £40 which I know is a fair bit but think I will splash out as I have a 25 min walk every morning and evening so really need to be warm and vaguely rain resistant... and it might not be the last time I use it... if i want an 80% chance of being incontinent

PELVIC FLOOR EVERYONE !!!

Mrswizz · 21/09/2007 10:45

Poor you MotherofZ, those wretched stairs again.

Re: maternity coats. I got a canny bargain from Reiss sale in the summer. It's a little white jacket that has a pleat at the back so it expands. It's a swing jacket anyway so quite roomy. It will also do when I'm not pregnant. I have to take it off on the tube so people can see my bump - not that that makes any difference as everyone miraculously falls asleep when I enter the carriage like they're in the enchanted poppy field on the Wizard of Oz.
