hello lizzer - couldn't imagine moving at this stage in pg with a lo but hope today's going ok, at least moving before baby arrives is easier than after - do you need to buy loads of baby stuff this time or have you got it from dd? I guess one of the best ways is online shopping if you can't get out much - does dd actually have foot and mouth or are you just restricted because of the outbreak?
sorry to say I feel like 11 weeks is ages off but then I'm not moving into a new house - good luck!

Mrswizz · 19/09/2007 10:09

Hello everyone!

I've got a lot of catching up to do after being in Italy for a week, DH called me the 'snorkelling egg'. Hot weather there got my feet and ankles swollen. They still haven't gone down properly. Anyone else got this? Have been sleeping in flight socks to try and get them back to normal.

Sorry to hear about your scare Mixedmama, glad you're ok.

Good luck with the house Lizzer, it might be stressful now, but it will be lovely when you move in and get settled.

suey2 · 19/09/2007 10:23

mrswizz be careful- you may want a bp check if your legs don't go down overnight.

lizzer- what a nightmare! you must be really tempted to put fingers in ears and go la la la a lot! I am moving house in 5 weeks, too and what i have done is go onto the mothercare website, found all the things i need and use the buy later facility. Same with nursery furniture at peter jones (john lewis)

re GD- i hope the test was positive because i had just got back from my 3 week eat fest in the US: put on 10lb in 3 weeks. in the three weeks since i have been back, i have only put on 1 lb. Was v difficult to find anything without sugar in it. sorry to bang on about it

Morning everyone

lizzer - I dont envy you with the house, im sure you'll be fine though.

Not much happening with me, apart from im desperate to start washing and sorting all the baby's stuff. I keep going in the nursery and checking what ive got and what i need.
I dont think ive had a proper sleep for about 3 weeks, ds has been poorly so has been awake about 4 times through the night,im not used to it.
Im back at work tomorrow ive been on the sick for 4 weeks, i really really dont want to go back

MRSskidaddle · 19/09/2007 10:45

don't you all remember about sucking your stomachs in? to keep your 'deep abdominal muscles' fit and ready so that our bellies won't be too saggy post-birth?

have forgotten about pelvic floor too (but am doing them now!)

Lizzer - Moved house at about this stage with dd and it was fine - good excuse to do bugger all while dh runs himself ragged getting everything ready - must be stressful though - try to sit back and let him do all the work

mrswizz at the snorkelling egg. think heat can make your ankles swell too - hopefully should go down in a couple of days

DD withdrawal symtoms are getting bad now and 3 more days to go

MotherofZ · 19/09/2007 10:52

Mrs Whizz - hope you had a lovely time in Italy - shame you couldn't bring back any sunshine for us. Had to put the central heating on this morning!

Lizzie - Hope your house gets done on time. It took us 1 and 1/2 years to completely rennovate our house, but it's a wonderful cosy home now.

Hugs to MrsSkid - hope the time flies quickly for you until DD returns

We need daily reminders on this thread about pelvic floor!!!

dundeemarmalade · 19/09/2007 10:57

morning all.
just been catching up with all the messages- s much going on!
re. arnica and homeopathic potency, i think i'm right in saying that in homeopathy, the LOWER the does the more potent the medicine, so 30cc is more potent than 200cc (and I think you can sometimes get a 8cc which is even stronger). Don't ask me how/if it works. Not a clue, but will give it a go anyway- even if it's only a placebo it could work in 30% of cases- fingers crossed.
re. hypnobirthing- have been trying to remember to use my pregnancy relaxation cd from the hypnobirthing people. they don't recommend using the birth preparation one until 35 wks i think. the relaxation cd is a bit daft (giggled the whole way through it on first listen) but i do feel much more chilled out when i've done it, especially if i can prop myself over a big enough pile of pillows to stop my lower back hurting.
peanutbutter that muffin recipe you posted a while ago is a massive hit at marmalade towers- latest winning combo is raspberry and redcurrant. i figure if i stick enough fruit in and use brown sugar it almost counts as healthfood...

suey2 · 19/09/2007 10:58

yes, gals remember the tranversus stuff from all those months ago? to try and prevent SPD etc?
sucking in when walking etc still v important. also, stick your finger in your belly button to see if you move a lot side to side when you walk- there should be minimal movement- try and use your tummy to stabilise and stop this happening. The less you can waddle, the better.

dundeemarmalade · 19/09/2007 11:00

suey should we be able to tell if the rectus muscle has separated yet? not sure what implications of this are for stomach-sucking in exercises, if any.
sorry to hear about your gd diagnosis btw.

mixedmama · 19/09/2007 11:02

I have remembered your waddling advice Suey, altho I know I do it i do remember and then try not to.

suey2 · 19/09/2007 11:14

safe to do transversus sucky in work whether it has separated or not- in fact it can minimise the separation and it will be the first thing to bring it back together after the baby arrives. You can also combine with pelvic floor work. NOT SAFE to do any sit up work, whether separated or not, at this stage.
One of the easiest ways to see if it has separated is to lift your head when you are lying down on your back with knees bent. If there is a lot of doming between 2 (imaginary) vertical lines then it probably has separated.Mine hasn't, but i double check by sucking in the top part of my tummy and looking in the mirror- i can still see the 2 muscle bellies of rectus together (ie the first bit of your 'six pack'

Hi - just picking up on bits - have got no time on MN at the mo as DD not at school until 1st October! But as she has finished pre-school, we have 2 weeks of doing not much - had grand plans for all the things we could do but weather not great today and I'm knackered after taking her up to London for 2 afternoons in a row. (She was doing some more pics for the M&S website - will stick a link up if/when they go on there)

DH is taking her on a trip to Disneyland Paris next week (quality daddy-and-daughter time pre-baby) so am looking forward to 4 days of putting my feet up when I want - might do some baby shopping, I'll see if my mum can get a day off for some retail therapy!

SAHM/WM debate - I went back to work after DD1 because I had to - even if I didn't, I think I would have climbed the walls - I hated being at home. When I had DD2 I was lucky to have the choice (I'd been made redundant which paid off most of our car loans so I worked evenings in Sainsbury's for a year until we were OK financially as the compromise) - it was the right thing to do as I am a different person now. I occasionally miss work, but have a volunteer role as a local charity treasurer to keep my brain active and add to my CV when/if I do go back to working. No-one can say there is a univerally right answer - it is a shame that life is so expensive compared to our parents' days that most women don't have the luxury of choice. A happy WM is better than a resentful SAHM.

Don't know any Eastenders gossip - I only wath Corrie out of the soaps!

Caz10 the Tesco freebie is smaller than you expect! But it's still something-for-nothing as you need a pack of newborn nappies anyway. There was a mini-pack of travel wipes in it. The free muslin was the smallest I've ever seen so gave it to DD for her Baby Born doll! Can't remember what else was in it and am too lazy to go upstairs!

TheLady - I would wash everything you can, wipe down any hard surfaces/spray any soft surfaces with something like Dettol spray, then leave it to air to get rid of any residual smells/chemicals. Make sure you get new mattresses - I think Toys R Us are quite cheap from memory but haven't looked this time as I need an unusual size one for my pram so have to get from a specialist shop.

Pelvic floor - any advice from Suey welcome! Whenever I do rememebr I'm sure I tense my bum muscles too - am I right in thinking you should be able to isolate the vag ones? If so, am I doing it wrong, and does that mean it's Tena Lady forever??

Sorry for long post but making the most of snatched time while DD watches a DVD!

insywinsyspider · 19/09/2007 11:32

its a completely different language! you see I can do numbers but not words - think I'll stick with pelvic floor as a minimum till I can work out how to do the muscle thing

suey2 · 19/09/2007 11:41

housemum, you shouldn't need to use your bum. I would try at first to stop midstream on the loo- but only to get the technique. Imagine someone is approaching your bits with a pin and you are pulling back. Another visual which sometimes works is a lifting of your undercarriage. The contraction i find makes me feel slightly queazy when i get it right.

Can you tell it is my day off! had my brazilian this am- finding it quite tough to separate my knees for that long!

skidaddle · 19/09/2007 11:53

oooouch at your brazilian suey - are you going to keep it up until labour?

Housemum - hope you cope better than me with your dd away for a few days. Just not the same without her.. (although lie-ins and time to read the paper, go out with MrSkidaddle etc are very welcome)

vnmum · 19/09/2007 12:15

hi everyone, ive not been online for a few days so sorry for not replying about the arnica. i found some info on it on a midwifery site. i hope my link works. just scroll down until you find the bit on arnica. bear in mind that i dont think you can buy peri pads here so i was just going to use always or slim maternity pads.

arnica pads

Loucee - i am due 19 dec with DC2. i too am hoping for this one to arrive before xmas as DS will be 2 this year and will understand about xmas more and i want to be home with him, not in hospital. im hoping to go into labour after his birthday (beginning of dec) and before my due date but who knows.

im sure i had read in a magazine that raspberry leaf could be taken from 32 weeks, to cover the last 8 weeks, in preparation for labour

Insy - i too am having pain where my episiotomy scar is and am really scared about how its going to affect the birth

Mrswizz · 19/09/2007 12:38

Thelady, Mrsskidaddle - have just heeded your advice and bought a waterproof mattress protector from Ebay. Very good idea. Do not want my bed to smell of cheese.

I'm beginning to get a bit impatient now. I really want to have this baby and get stuck in to motherhood.

Ooh, remember all that chat about maternity rings? I've bought a lovely diamond ring with my insurance money from when my engagement ring was nicked. I am calling it my maternity ring. Still have enough money on my insurance jewellery card for some earrings. Soo nice to buy stuff like that with no guilt - especially when everything else I'm buying is for the bairn.

Nbg · 19/09/2007 12:45

Afternoon all

Well it finally happened, I collapsed carrying ds up the stairs for his nap out of sheer breathlessness.
Slid all the way down and ds banged his head on the banisters.

Poor dd cant go to preschool now and I'm a right blinkin mess. Hurt my back and have headache.
Dont really know what I'm supposed to do now for the next 10 weeks.
Things just dont seem to be getting any easier

Sorry for the selfish rant but I'm teed off atm.

Mrswizz · 19/09/2007 12:53

Poor you NBG! I couldn't carry a little one now I'm sure. I'm so clumsy at the moment. I fell in a ditch whilst coming down a mountain in Italy at the weekend, cut all my toes, dripped blood all the way home and bruised my bum and leg. Fell down the stairs yesterday too. Bumped my bum again.

Nbg · 19/09/2007 12:55

oh blimey Mrswizz!

I know its not forever but these last 10 weeks are going to be really hard I can tell.
MW said its babys position and spd thats caused it cos other than that, I feel fine.

mixedmama · 19/09/2007 12:56

OMG NBG. Sorry to hear that. Are you going to get checked out? Luckily i only have one floor but have felt like on more than one occasion that I might fall, especially with DS.

Mrswizz - sorry that you have fallen as well.

skidaddle · 19/09/2007 13:05

Oh you poor things Nbg and Mrswizz

Nbg - can someone come round and help out with your dc for an hour or two while you have a rest? This is a sign that you must take it easy from now on (easy to say i know when you have 2 dc to look after)

Mrswizz - love the 'maternity ring' - sounds much cooler than eternity ring anyway!

fifisworld · 19/09/2007 13:07

NBG
Have you had yourself checked out?
Thats one thing im worried about atm, falling down the stairs while im carrying ds. I cling to the banister but he's just so heavy and wriggly atm im terrified incase i drop him/fall.

Nbg · 19/09/2007 13:08

MW's reckon its babys position as I'm always breathless on a morning and it eases come lunchtime.

I rang everyone I possibly could this morning and couldnt get anyone.
