hi neuro - can you tell by the amount of recent postings I'm also fed up at work! since I told them I was pregnant I've not been given anything interesting to do - off to find chocolate!

claraq · 18/09/2007 14:54

Insy - I think I am carrying lower this time too. Definitely looks different from last time. But could just be that baby is in different position.

Mixedmama - who is Steven? Have I missed something? Does Ian have another child then? Was it the one that was in fact Wicksy's child? Perhaps they are bringing back the Wicks brothers (although isn't one of them now a doctor at Holby City?).

suey2 · 18/09/2007 14:55

pishty poo pants. Looks like i may have gestational diabetes. Have been booked in next weds for full glucose tolerance test at the hospital.
Anyone have any experience of this?

OP posts:
mixedmama · 18/09/2007 14:56

he left Holby ages ago.

Yeah steven is Nick Wicks son.

kerioke · 18/09/2007 15:02

insy - and any other 2nd/3rd timers etc... this is my 3rd and i have noticed that this time and last time evrything feels lower... some fo the kicks a few weeks ago actually had me believe i may be able to tickle his feet through my cervix if i wanted to!

i remember speaking to mw about it last time round and she said due to previous stretching etc this baby has more nooks and crannys to egt into and that subsequent pregnancies dont notice such a 'drop' at the end when baby engages as they usually sit low throughout... on the plus side no painful rib kicks like we suffered first time round!

am starting to get myself in a panic over labour (apologies if i now worry anyone else) after 2 long labours i realy want to try and help myself this time... have heard variou things like acupressure, pulsatilla et but when i looked online these things were listed as induction aids which isnt really what iw as looking for... any ideas or am i firing blanks??

kerioke · 18/09/2007 15:10

oh suey i hope it turns out to be nothing... although gest diabs is managable it certainly is something you could do without! i myself have never suffered with this, but i have two friends who have, one of which gave birth to a healthy girl at 35 weeks (early due to gest diabs) but both were fine once born... the other laboured on time and both she and bub were fine but she had a hell of a time during the last section of pregnancy with untold amounts of monitoring which really got her down... god suey i'm certainly not helping your spirits am i??? good thing is you seem a mentally/emotionally strong person and i believe you will cope regardless... main thing is keeping those stress levels down and blood sugars even ay?

insywinsyspider · 18/09/2007 15:15

sounds like me lo is def hanging around at the bottom of my uterus this time, glad I'm not the only ones who's muscles have taken a hike!

kerioke - I heard pilates was good to help labour as strengths everything up (core strength) and useful for toning the pushing muscles - keep meaning to find a class but too tired to contemplate it, floating about doing aquanatal is about as far as I get... I think there are little things you can do to help baby get in right position too, I remember sitting backwards on a chair loads (as in legs either side of the chair back) and only sleeping on my right hand side but can't remember the theory as to why - hopefully someone will have some better suggestions!

MotherofZ · 18/09/2007 15:17

insy - baby really low down this time, when M/W was trying to find the heart beat it was just above my pubic bone.

suey - hope everything goes ok with you at the hospital

insywinsyspider · 18/09/2007 15:20

sorry suey missed your post - I'm afraid I don't have any experience of this either, how did they/you figure it out? I think ges diabeties can lead to bigger babies and def a hosp birth as they'll monitor baby after they are born - thats as much as I know x

MRSskidaddle · 18/09/2007 15:22

oh no suey, hope it turns out not to be - don't have any experience of it but crossed fingers for you

MM - have you been to the GP/hospital? What did they say?

Never mind all this Eastenders talk - are there no Corrie fans out there??

claireybee · 18/09/2007 15:26

Hello! Can i join you?

Am due dec 10th with my second, dd is 15 months.

Insy-this baby is also really low down, at my 20 week scan the sonographer had to raise my bum up to get baby out of my pelvis and all the movements are low down. Glad i'm not the only one...

Haven't actually seen mw since 20 weeks, as moved house and has taken this long to get registered at new surgery. Have appointment next week though. Until then am presuming all is ok, have been fine apart from back ache and mild sciatica.

insywinsyspider · 18/09/2007 15:32

I'm sad enough to flick between both - so will bethany die??

MRSskidaddle · 18/09/2007 15:34

Hi Claireybee! I am due on the ame day as you! Sorry to hear about your sciatica and backache - still don't really understand what sciatica is - is it a shotting pain in your lower back? Do you know what you're having this time round?

MRSskidaddle · 18/09/2007 15:35

insy - I missed it last night - did Bethany eat some of David's E's? Don;t think she will die - they wouldn;t have gone through all those years of employing child actors to give it all up just when she's coming to an age when she can do something interesting

insywinsyspider · 18/09/2007 15:43

yep she ate some of his e's and he took ages to admit to it - maybe they are just using it so they can make his character nicer, I don't watch it all that often because I want to throttle him half the time

hi clareybee! - and thanks guys response to my question has been very reassuring - did lifting your bum move the baby? last night I couldn't get to sleep because baby was so low and really kicking, dh suggested putting my bum in air to make baby 'swim' up but I laughed at him he may have been right, not that I'll tell him

MotherofZ · 18/09/2007 15:44

hi claireybee - welcome!
Do you know what you are having?

Neuro · 18/09/2007 16:21

Good luck Suey, really hope you haven't got it.

Yes Insy - boredom at work and posting on MN seem directly proportional!!!

Hello new lady Clairybee.

And for the record, now i'm pregnant, i watch ALL soaps. Even Hollyoaks. The shame of it

becklespeckle · 18/09/2007 16:36

Bouncing, I did not get to see my manager last night, she didn't phone me and had gone when I went in. I had quite a bad night last night and have been much stiffer today so am not happy! Thankfully I only do 2 evenings, I am in again tomorrow night and I will try and phone my manager again after I have seen the doctor tomorrow.
Mixedmama, how scary for you! How are you doing now hun? Hopefully it was just monster gut-ache but get it checked out anyway.
Insy, this baby is definitely sitting lower than the others and most kicks are below my knicker line still, quite often out to each side too so think it may still be mainly transverse and on its stomach. Definitely kicks right down into cervix a lot too!
MotherofZ, at your MW! Yours was even less use than mine! At least I got a leaflet! I would definitely recommend going to your Docs, my friend who had it last year said it is the only way to get help with it. I am going tomorrow to speak about support tights (nice) for veins but am going to mention SPD also and how much worse it is after I have been at work - hopefullly that will give my manager a kick up the bum and she will leave me on a till! Am usually a bit stiff after I get off (they are not the comfiest seats) but much less irritation than being up/down all night.
Suey, are they going to test again for the diabetes to make sure you have it? Hope you are okay.
With regards to the SAHM/WOHM debate I have to say that neither way is wrong. I think what a child needs most is a happy Mummy and if that means she works a couple of days or more a week then what is the problem? The same if she prefers to be at home. I am a SAHM, I always wanted that but I would not be able to do it if I didn't work a couple of evenings doing a job I am not particularly keen on.
I have been speaking to my daytime (work from home) job today about after MAT leave and have told him I don't want to do it once baby is here. I just don't see that being a receptionist fits in with a baby, not even doing it from home! It isn't always busy but today I spent from 9.20 until 12.40 on the phone without a break taking calls and making them. He was really good with it and said he would quite like me to stay on and do admin for him - I would be able to do that in my 'spare' time. I will not need the extra money but more is always nice so not really sure what to do!

Loucee · 18/09/2007 16:42

Hi ladies

Oh lots of chat today, love reading up on all the goss and news!

Welcome Loopsy and Claire, this December club is nice and big, will be exciting when we're all having our babies

Kerioke - I'm looking into hypnobirthing, my friend down south teaches it and has convinced me this is the way to a quicker labour. I can't afford to go to classes though so will just buy the CD and book.
I was going to a pilates class but a lot of the exercises are on your back on the floor which is really uncomfortable now and I couldn't do the breathing techniques lying down so I'm going to buy a video and cd for pregnancy pilates and do at home at the normal time my class would be.
I hadn't done pilated before but can definitely notice a difference in my muscle control since doing it.

I feel very guilty as I'm signed off work at the moment but not because I need bed rest so I did some christmas shopping today! Felt a weight off my mind to get some done as I've been a bit like Caz and deferred a lot of things for our wk off in October.

Went to see some double buggies as well - they're HUGE!!!!!!!!!!

Insy - I think they tell you to lie on your right hand side in bed to encourage baby to be in the optimum position for labour.

Loucee · 18/09/2007 16:55

Sorry forgot to mention you Mixedmama, have you managed to get to the hospital yet? Hope everything is ok

thelady · 18/09/2007 17:07

Wow - lots to catch up on!

I've not exactly failed my GTT, but not passed it either. Not sure what that means, but I'll see my midwife in 10 days' time so hopefully things will be explained a bit better then.

I had written a loooooooooooooong message full of questions, sympathy for those with SPD, and stuff - and lost it. Botheration.

I shall restrict myself to reporting that this cold has been a stinker, and my tummy muscles are feeling abused from all the coughing followed by the sproglet kicking to complain.

One question: does anyone have a recommended way of cleaning a second-hand moses basket and carrycot? I was thinking remove all removable fabric and wash it, and wipe down everything else with something antibacterial...?

claireybee · 18/09/2007 17:10

Thanks for the welcome

No we are having a surprise baby this time, we found out with dd cos i really wanted her to be a girl so felt i had to mentally prepare myself before the birth if she wasn't! No preference either way this time, either would be nice.

Insy, don't tell your dh but yes the baby did move up a bit with my bum in the air, i felt a right wally though!

cazzybabs · 18/09/2007 19:33

Moxedmama - you went to be checked out at 3....where are ou with the news. Shall we be worried? Hope it is OK?

Caz10 - thansk for asking. Start of term is fine, excpet anxious parents worring about who will take over the class. And I had forgotton how little they know at the start of Year 1. They are so small and also they are now starting to show their true colours. I was a little stressed this afternoon wondering how on earth to get a child to read it! AHHHHHHH - and my back hurts after all day at work.

I am definatly carrying it lower. It is kicking lower and everything hurts more this time!

Cazzybabs that is the ONLY advantage I have found so far being in Yr4 - you don;t have to bend down so much so my back is so far ok!!

Getting jabs next week because I am rhesus negative - is anyone else??

I know you are all right, I should just forget about going back to work and enjoy the time off. Sadly I am limited financially and can't extend mat leave anymore - but the one good thing is that at the end of June I will then have my 6wks summer hols!! So just mentally adding that on, even if I am back at work for a month or so inbetween.

Can't find who was talking about arnica, but I am interested in that too, have found homeopathic cures v good for other things in the past. Certainly can't hurt!

Oooh I got my Tesco baby club stuff through, tokens galore and my wee parking permit...just need to pass test now hee hee! Has anyone picked up their Huggies freebie basket thing? It looks cute, but it's probably a pile of rubbish, but I'm a sucker for a freebie.
