New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

Guys, I’ve had a life changing moment, no exaggeration, maternity knickers! I’ve never thought that they were essential, happily went through 42 weeks with DS without knowing they exist but I’ve been wearing some for about 2 hours now and I feel my whole life has been empty until now!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Might need to check those out @DobbieFreeElf !! I've been going for big, high-waisted knickers but the band is never in a comfortable place 😂

OP posts:
Viletta · 12/06/2020 18:33

I have very similar multicolored ones, so comfy!

Will you tell your kids they are IVF?

Lily999 · 12/06/2020 21:03

Knickers are a great shout thanks, I'll check them out, they don't have my size :(

Look what DH ordered and got delivered today, my favourite so far. :)

@Viletta not sure, we never really shared it with anyone so probably not, but I guess it can change. Will you?

DobbieFreeElf · 12/06/2020 21:18

Hahaha, that’s cute @lily999

I’m really open about this being an ivf pregnancy, pretty sure everyone that knows we’re pregnant knows it was ivf. I’m very open about everything as I think people should talk more about miscarriage and fertility issues. I won’t keep it a secret but I don’t think it would come up until teenage years (If at all) and I doubt it will make any difference... to be fair, I prefer the thought of a test tube rather than thinking about my parents “doing it” 🤮

Viletta · 12/06/2020 22:23

@Lily999 awww so cute!! You've got a lovely bump!

With us only close family and friends know it's IVF, other friends know we went to doctors and tried for ages but don't know the details. We have MFI and I read it often carries over to children and we have a boy... I wonder if he should tell him and when.. probably before he gets married but then would I want to know before I married DH? I know I'm running way way ahead in time but had I though..

FlapJackered · 12/06/2020 22:43

@Viletta I think we will tell our kids they are ivf. My whole family knows so it makes sense to be open for us. I can understand why someone wouldn't though.

@Chooklass condoms! 😂 that's interesting what your midwife said though. DH is keen to try naturally again as soon as I am physically well enough (although that may change when he becomes a father and reality hits!) 😬 The likelihood is very low that it would happen but not impossible for us.

@Lily999 that t-shirt is amazing! 😂 lovely photo too!!

@DobbieFreeElf glad to hear all looked well with the scan, I had the same as you and had to go back again, as you say it was lovely to get another chance to see the wriggler!

@Wimbledon1 I love the 'V' day idea! We are going pram shopping first week in July when I will be 26 weeks, so I guess that will be my personal V day. 😬

I am so achy now in my hips. 😩 I think I need to do some yoga or Pilates, stretch them out!
Felt a bit worried as I had not felt much in the way of movement from the shrimp in the last few days but then had a big boot in the belly today so feeling relieved now 😅. I think he must have been hiding behind the placenta.

Wimbledon1 · 13/06/2020 08:06

Aww @Lily999 that's so cute! Love it!

@Viletta I think we will tell them one day when it feels right. We've also been very open about the treatment and so if others around them all know it feels eventually they will too. The embryologist at ET gave me a photo of the blatoclyst which she said could be the first pic for our family album. Less sure about that 😂

The contraception conversation I found interesting as it sounds like most of you had reasons for your infertility, was that right? Ours went down as 'unexplained' in the end. Although there were a few things that were slightly not right, a sperm count that was 'ok but on the low end' for him, one polycystic ovary for me, etc.

Is anyone else starting to sleep quite badly now? Obviously there's the toilet thing, but lots of things are starting to hurt (hear you on the hips @FlapJackered) back...I haven't really got to grips with my mat pillow...sleeping all on one side turns out not to be comfortable and little one loves a furious kick in bed, ideally now at some organs it feels like. 😂

💤

FlapJackered · 13/06/2020 08:13

@Wimbledon1 I am so with you on the maternity pillow. I just can't get used to it or get into a comfortable position with it. I am still alternating between my left and right side (and ending up on my back quite a bit 😕) I thought when I get to the third trimester I will try and get to grips with the pillow because I am thinking it might help with the hip pain too. 🤷‍♀️

Chooklass · 13/06/2020 09:42

We've been quite open about IVF too so won't be keeping it a secret as such. I like @DobbieFreeElf 's point that most kids would probably prefer the thought of test tube origins 😂

Same here @Wimbledon1 - we were officially 'unexplained', but had varying sperm quality, one cystic ovary, other ovary with endo and v narrow cervix discovered only during ET trial! But still 'unexplained' because none were severe enough on their own to cause infertility!🤣

Very cute t-shirt @Lily999! 😍

OP posts:
DobbieFreeElf · 13/06/2020 11:21

@Wimbledon1 I was getting really uncomfortable at night, I would switch between sides every hour or so. The night before last I tried putting my memory foam pillow under my body, I fell asleep on my left, woke once in the night (for a wee) still on my left and changed to my right and woke up on my right in the morning. I’ve now gone and ordered a super duper memory foam topper for my bed, mine was feeling too hard when sleeping on my side and not giving my middle enough support. So excited for its arrival! (I also sleep with a pillow between my legs which takes the pressure off the hips!)

October2020 · 13/06/2020 12:47

I've had awful insomnia the last few nights, often coupled with desperately needing food at about 2am! Pregnancy is such fun....!

Viletta · 14/06/2020 01:03

I'm loving my bbhugme pregnancy pillow, I toss around a lot as I always do but I turn it around through the night so sleep on both right and left sides, occasionally on my back and half way on my stomach, putting my leg up on the pillow. My hip pain is gone now I have the pillow between my legs!

Got a stash of hand down clothes from a family member.. there are some cutes ones but most are stained and worn out, don't want to be ungrateful but will probably end up not using them. I've knitted a lot of cute cardigans though. 3,5 months to go! Time flies!

DobbieFreeElf · 14/06/2020 10:01

To be honest @Viletta keep those stained sleep suits for over night, DS could go through 4 or 5 in a night! Baby poo is runny and not easily contained 🤣

Viletta · 14/06/2020 11:48

@DobbieFreeElf that's what my mum said! I'll wash and iron them and put in the chest. Got 6 new grow-suits that are so cute. I am so excited! Can't wait! How are you doing?

QuantumGirl · 14/06/2020 15:10

@Viletta it's lovely you have had some hand me downs baby clothes. I have to buy everything as most of my friends are childfree. I have been very worried as I can't find any baby grows online in newborn size. I know it's too early and the shops only now started to re-open but I keep worrying my baby would have nothing to wear if she comes early.

I went for my 22 week scan and baby heart was fine but my placenta is still on the low side so c-section might be likely if it doesn't move up. I was reading the scan report and noticed they mentioned that although an anomaly scan was carried out they can not rule out any 'mis- development' (it was better worded). Now I wonder if it is because the NHS don't have time to go through everything during the scan and I should do a private one or is it a normal disclaimer on everyone's report ? 🤷‍♀️

Chooklass · 14/06/2020 17:07

@QuantumGirl I think that's a normal disclaimer. There are things which wouldn't show up on a scan unfortunately.

I've got a few newborn sized things off eBay - seems to be plenty on there if you don't mind second hand? Lots of it is good as new 😊

OP posts:
Chooklass · 14/06/2020 17:09

I've noticed the lack of new newborn clothes online though, same with nappies. Maybe a supply problem just now?

OP posts:
Wimbledon1 · 14/06/2020 19:10

Oh yes my paperwork @QuantumGirl said several times throughout how they don't pick up everything etc. But a private scan wouldn't either. We might get another scan at about 30 weeks but mostly so DH can actually see the baby after all these missed scans 😔

Interesting about the nappy and newborn shortage. I probably wouldn't have thought about this until at least August so thank you for the tip off.

Have most people had their whooping cough injections yet? How much did it hurt after, and how quickly? I have mine tomorrow at 5.30 and then my pregnancy fitness zoom class at 6.30 and wondering if that's do-able...I've got an 8am option the next day but doubt that will be any better. Wondering whether to ask to defer the payment to next week!

FlapJackered · 14/06/2020 19:54

@Wimbledon1 my arm felt realllllly bruised for the next day, you might be fine but I couldn't do the Pilates I was meant to do the next morning.

I have noticed the lack of newborn stuff too. I want to get some specific nappies which are sold out of newborn sizes, I am hoping they will be back in stock by September though. 😬

Viletta · 14/06/2020 20:54

@Wimbledon1 the vaccination was fine, less painful than the flu one I though.

I spoke to a friend of mine who got pregnant naturally, she said midwives will start seeing us in person after 28w. She also mentioned that she is being cautious and is not planning to see anybody till her due date, also October, unless the virus situation is solved completely. I felt quite irresponsible as I had seen friends for picnics and I really enjoyed it. Also planning another meet up in a park soon... People whom I see are responsible and very careful as well. What are your thoughts on this?

QuantumGirl · 14/06/2020 21:02

Thanks @Chooklass I don't know why I haven't thought of eBay. Really don't mind second hand in fact most of the baby furniture we got is second hand in brilliant condition.

@Wimbledon1 thanks for checking your report, glad to know it's not only mine and yes the private one won't reassure me either.

My whooping cough jab hurt like a bruise 24h later but didn't stop me from doing anything. It's like that delayed muscle pain after the first day back at the gym 💪💉

@FlapJackered that's exactly my thoughts on the lack of baby stuff. I even had a baby hair brush on my online shopping basket for the past 3 days which is now sold out 😭. I am trying to leave as little as possible to be done closer to due date. My tiny bump is already getting in the way as it is.

justkeeprunning5 · 14/06/2020 21:05

I think we will probably tell the baby about the IVF when they are old enough to understand but completely understand that many choose not to.

Interesting to hear about the contraception advice from midwifes! Same here @Wimbledon1 @Chooklass - we are ‘unexplained’ although I do have Endo. My husband is keen that we try naturally ASAP afterwards in case we are the lucky ones that find IVF has kickstarted things for... he says that now. May change his tune after baby arrives.

I’ve also noticed newborn / 0-3 things going out of stock really quickly. We haven’t bought anything yet but will get some basics in after the scan just so I can feel a bit calmer about being prepared. I figure retailers are starting to get organised again following all of the shutdowns so hopefully there will be plenty in stock soon.

@Viletta we are doing the same. Seeing friends & family that we know are responsible and just keeping our distance from them. I figure transmission risk is so low outside and I am not sure I can stand 4.5 months not seeing anyone at all and know my husband won’t stand for it, so we are planning on taking the measures risk at the moment but always keeping an eye on the numbers.

Viletta · 14/06/2020 21:06

Also noticed lack of newborn sizes but mostly on items that are on sale.
