New thread for us all to keep in touch. Think we're all nearing the end of the first trimester or dipping our toes into the second ... how far we've come since the days of agonising over stims!

@October2020 I felt most anxious before the scan too. Do you feel movements? I'm sure the baby is doing well! My friend is two weeks ahead and has a tiny bump, her scan was good and baby size is perfect. Not long now!

Viletta · 24/05/2020 09:57

Since my scan on Monday, all I can think about is babies: prams, clothes, names, delivery, NCT, etc etc. Unless I work I think about babies! Started watching Little fires everywhere and it is pretty good so far! Has some interesting philosophical questions about motherhood. The best stuff to watch though is Babies and The Let down, lighthearted and all about babies. Today though I'll try to think of something else otherwise it's exhausting! Anyone else can relate?

October2020 · 24/05/2020 10:26

@Viletta not really sure on movements. Have occasional moments where I think I might be but not enough to be sure. Not long til Tuesday now.

Littlelot · 24/05/2020 11:23

@October2020 I think the anxiety leading up to scans is normal. Try to keep positive - says me who was a real mess before. It’s not long to go now! I think it’s hard at the moment as you can’t just go out somewhere to take your mind off it.

I can’t remember if you said you’re placenta was at the front as well? At the hospital I saw a midwife after the scan and they said I would most likely feel movement very low down and probably wider (almost like in your hips) than I would expect. Since they said that I’ve been more confident that some movements i was unsure about are actually baby. Don’t know if that’s any help.

@Viletta I’m similar, it’s suddenly become much more real and I’m finally beginning to relax (well at least for the moment!). Thinking a lot about names mainly. Don’t know if it’s your cup of tea but I watched on YouTube (was on BBC) ‘no more boys and girls’with my A Level class a few months ago and on episode 1 they did a really interesting experiment looking at how people interacted and played differently with boy/girl babies. The main premise of the show is to create a primary class where both genders are treated equally and given same opportunities/expectations. It’s not exactly new born stage but gave me lots to think about. It’s a fun show and even my a level group loved it and most went away to watch episode 2 off their own backs.

Soooooo.... anyone else's boobs leaking...?

Had a panic that it was a sign I was about to go into labour but midwife says normal (to leak, and not to!).

Definitely not loads but enjoy to be noticeable! Ordered some bamboo reusable breast pads so will let you know how they go!

Chooklass · 24/05/2020 21:10

@October2020 No ... but have been getting sharp stingy pains in my nipples on and off the last few days! Really sore, I even looked to see it there was a cut or something! Glad your leakage is nothing to worry about x

OP posts:
Viletta · 24/05/2020 21:26

My nipple are bigger and darker and hurt terrible at any sign of cold! Good to hear that leakage is normal in case it happens.

DobbieFreeElf · 25/05/2020 17:47

My nipples itch... Constantly!

October2020 · 25/05/2020 17:49

Loving everyone's nipple updates 🤣 glad pregnancy is affecting us all in weird and wonderful ways!

I'm crazy nervous about my scan tomorrow. Thankfully it is very early so I won't have long to wait once I'm up.

Chooklass · 25/05/2020 20:58

Good luck tomorrow @October2020 !! Mine is on Thurs so I'm pretty anxious too.

Can't believe I'm only 2 days away from 20weeks ... feels like a huge milestone! I'm trying to think of something to do to celebrate, difficult when we can't go out and do anything just now. Might buy some lovely yarn online to knit something special for the baby 😍 x

Viletta · 25/05/2020 21:26

@October2020 good luck for tomorrow!

@Chooklass feel free to share patters that work :) I've made a really easy one button cardigan, booties and a hat with ears so far. Oh and a lovely rabbit toy! Trying to master how to connect two live ends together seamlessly, not working for me so far!

Chooklass · 25/05/2020 22:19

Do you use Ravelry @Viletta? I get most of my patterns on there. I've knitted this baby cardigan (photo) as a gift a few times and it was pretty easy! It's called 'MAX baby cardigan jacket'. I also really love Tin Can Knits patterns. They have some basic patterns on their website aimed at beginners

@Chooklass this one looks gorgeous! Thank you! Yes I'm on Ravelry, it's really good for patterns!

Hi everyone, hope you had good weekends. We ended up quite busy, including a nine mile walk on Sunday. Felt fine at the time but the round ligament and hip pain yesterday was insane, never had it like that. Bit concerned given how long I have to go 😬

@October2020 happy scan day. Best of luck and I hope they give you a good update quickly so you can then relax and enjoy. Mine isn't into Friday at 21 weeks. Hurry up!!

@DobbieFreeElf you asked this a few days ago but updates are definitely helpful. I have no sister and my mum was as late having me as I am this one so she's 75 and more recent intel is really helpful, thank you!
Also, love that you had a woodland theme too, brill. I'm excited about setting it up!

@justkeeprunning5 - are you finding out the sex? If not, that might be all of us done if Chooklass and @DobbieFreeElf and I aren't.

@Littlelot it's interesting that you think you may have had the virus and they are monitoring you! (I work for a university so I love all this research stuff!)

Anyone else pleased to hear car show rooms are reopening? I feel it's been so hard to start preparing for anything, and the one thing we can now do is start to plan to upgrade the car (mine is a Fiat 500, so a matchbox not suitable for baby 😂)

Littlelot · 26/05/2020 08:21

Hope all goes well today @October2020!

justkeeprunning5 · 26/05/2020 09:45

@Wimbledon1 we will not be finding out either so we shall have to tally up the final boy / girl numbers come November Smile.

I did also see that shops are opening from mid June, I am pleased. I’m sure you have all been through the baby dept in John Lewis (or any shop really) and seen parents to be doing their baby shopping... I always dreamt that would be us too so pleased we get the chance now. Doing 100% online isn’t part of the dream for me as I’m sure it isn’t for many of you.

justkeeprunning5 · 26/05/2020 09:45

Best of luck @October2020!!

Lily999 · 26/05/2020 10:07

Morning, hope your weekends were nice!
Good luck today @October2020 thinking of you.

My scanxiety is kicking in as I have a week left (2nd of June, next Tuesday for me), and it is bad... I am 19weeks tomorrow and still no obvious movements, it is stressing me out. I know it can be normal not to feel them until about 20weeks, but you all know how IVF first time mum brain works.... so I did something I am really ashamed of :( This morning I bought a doppler and already regretted it, but couldn't help myself as I hate having no idea whether he is ok or not. I know I know I shouldn't have as it can give me false assurance and hope, and I feel so bad, but it was a moment of weakness, will probably send it back unopened as by the time it arrives I will feel some movements anyway. But please be gentle and try to understand I had to do something to calm my nerves. :(

Viletta · 26/05/2020 10:08

@Wimbledon1 I love fiats 500! We are in the city and have one car but need to upgrade it as well to fit dog, pram and the baby! Exciting! Can't wait for the shops to reopen too to get a couple of outfits. I get ligaments pains quite often, they are sharp but go away quickly. 9 miles wow! I am jealous (in a good way) and in need of a long walk too!

October2020 · 26/05/2020 10:44

All good! Thank goodness Grin thanks for all the support guys.

Still not feeling any movements and whilst I was watching the screen, this child went from both feet down to both feet over her head and I felt NOTHING! Even though I was watching her do it! So hopefully that is reassurance for those of you not feeling much yet xx

justkeeprunning5 · 26/05/2020 11:15

@October2020 that is great news!

I hear that anything from 16-22 weeks is pretty standard, and up to 25 not that abnormal. So funny you could see the baby kicking about in there and feel nothing at all! It’s such a strange concept to not be able to feel something going on in your own body isn’t it!

@Viletta @Wimbledon1 all the love for a Fiat 500 here too. We always try to get one when we hire a car abroad. I would love one myself but can see that maybe not do practical with baby, baby gear and a dog on board along with their parents!

DobbieFreeElf · 26/05/2020 11:47

Glad to hear all was well @October2020!

I’m with you @Lily999, feeling no movement (despite this being number 2) and scanxiety is ramping up! My scan isn’t until the week after yours, just got to sit right in the mean time! I’m not going to give you a ticking off on the Doppler but I do urge you to send it back unopened. Honestly, the heartbeat is not that easy to find, despite what a YouTube expert will tell you and (to the untrained ear) the placenta sounds very similar. We all know what it’s like to get worried but I think you’ll worry yourself more trying to use it. You’ve only got a week til your scan! Countdown is on! Send it back and use the refund to buy something cute for the baby!

We bought a Mazda CX-5 before DS and I bloody love it! Loads of room for everyone!

We’ve also started tentatively looking for a puppy. Our home feels so empty without a dog. I really want a spaniel or spaniel x lab, my husband is all about the lab! I definitely want to find one in the next couple of months to get some basic house training done before #2 appears!

Chooklass · 26/05/2020 12:55

Glad all was well @October2020 😃

@Lily999 sorry you are feeling so anxious - it's totally understandable and we are here to listen ❤️. It is still totally normal to feel no movements, and all your recent scans and tests have been great! Please send the doppler back unopened? Like @DobbieFreeElf said, I don't think it will help - they are tricky to use. I'm not sure you would really be reassured by it either? Could you really believe you were hearing the right thing? Anxiety is a dickhead and will just weasel itself in another way. Maybe speak to your midwife about your anxiety and extra checks could be arranged? Dobbie's idea is a good one - use the money to treat you or the baby to something lovely instead xx

Lily999 · 26/05/2020 13:04

Ah thank you @DobbieFreeElf and @Chooklass will do. I know you have a point and I would just get even more anxious if I don't find it or if I think I did but start doubting myself...
True, a week ago I heard the heartbeat and saw the baby doing very well so I should just sit tight and count the days until Tuesday. :)

Congrats @October2020 it's great news also reassuring as I am also concerned about not feeling movements (and nobody ever said I have the placenta in the front so can't use that as an explanation).

@dobbiefreeelf I think it's a great idea to get a puppy before the little one arrives because after that it could be a bit too messy.

@Wimbledon1 I love shopping for cars, but it's also always bittersweet for me as I get way too attached to my cars and get emotional when I have to let them go. Women, huh? :)

October2020 · 26/05/2020 13:27

@Lily999 my placenta is more at the top than the front and when I asked if that was why she said it shouldn't be affecting it, just not feeling it at all is completely normal. She told me that if I needed to put a date in the diary to worry by I should choose 24 weeks - if I haven't felt her by then, she said I could ring and they'd check me LOL Blush please send the doppler back, they have the risk of being so unsafe x
