Hello
am over here...!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
barristermum · 26/09/2007 17:34

Oooh lulubump - horrendous! Am totally with Mrs McJnr on this - she will RUIN your first few weeks of bonding etc if you are not careful. Your dh has to have a word and make it clear HE does not want her living there, and it's not your sensitivities at all in issue. If he's too much of a wuss then you may just have to be straight with her, but remember at the end of the day she obviously so much wants a relationship with her grandchild she will swallow your rules rather than strop off with the hump.

Am totally up for a curry - Masala Zone is fresh, cheap and in various locations - Covent Garden, Soho, Islington etc. Or up for something new?

Lulubump · 26/09/2007 18:37

Thanks Barristermum and MrsMcJnr - I would LOVE to offload the whole MIL issue onto my DH, but she never mentions any of this when he's around, and so if he does say anything to her, then she'll know that I mentioned it to him and asked him to talk to her about it. Think I'm getting past the point of caring about that though. Seeing her this weekend, so will keep you posted!

skibump · 26/09/2007 19:55

Just popping in to say thanks to MrsMcJnr - what sharp eyes you have and to let a few others know I've joined the due in June 2008 thread Was sorry (and happy) to see Goingfor3 there - I didn't know she'd lost her January beanie

Hope everyone's doing well, and just for the record Lulubump, I banned ANYONE from visiting for the first 2 weeks after ds was born - in the event I felt happy to let people pop over, but at least that way the ground rules were very clear - and it worked for me

MamaMaiasaura · 26/09/2007 21:12

Hi everyone. I am completely knackered so please forgive me that although I have tried to read and catch up I am not with it enough to do a fabby post.

Did spot Skibumps lovely news really pleased for you skibump.

Jenswish - I hope you are ok, was it BH & are they settled?

Weight gain - I have gain 8kg atm, not really gained over last 3 weeks as was poorly.

THe important stuff for me is ds's operation. I am extremely proud of how brave he was. I declined pre med temazepam for him and ds drove a jeep down to theatre. He was worried about the needle in hand but the magic cream helped and he was super brave. When they were about to put the medicine in ds said 'os that what makes me go to sleep?' which i ssaid yes too. So he said ok, I will close my eyes and go to sleep. I gave him a kiss, told him i loved him and to have sweet dreams and he was already fast asleep. Was very quick. Operation in itself was super quick. Ds was upset when he came to and obviously in pain. THey only did tonsils as adenoids, although bigger than normal, not huge. His tonisl s however were massive and apparantly full of pus, food, infection etc. Really not nice.

He appeared to pick up well but then his face swelled up a bit with a rash and we were wondering if allergic reaction as he became agressive (tho not directing it at anyone) and really really withdrawn. Totally not like ds. Seemed to settle, then restless night and very high temperature this morning. Eventually his temp went do at about 2pm and we went home about 2.30. His temperature is now up again, I have given him paracetamol and ibuprofen. THe hosp want me to keep an eye on him tomorrow. If still high temp might have infection and need antibiotics. Currently he is asleep in my bed, dribbling away, poor love. He is hardly talking (totally unlike him) and poor appetite and not wanting to drink, although has managed some milk.

I am shattered as very little sleep last 2 nights (awake from 4 this morning) will be going to bed soon although will only sleep lightly as ds in with me.

Re braxton hicks, I had some tightenings yesterday (whole tummy hard) and guess that they were BH's. Baby more active today as was veryquiet yesterday till I was trying to sleep.

DP is working very harding in Japan and is flying ot another part tomorrow which was unexpected. He is missing us lots and us him.

Sorry for going on about what has been going on for us here. Hopefully everything will settle down soon.

LilyLoo · 26/09/2007 21:17

fab news skibump
Glad it all over now Awen let's hope he back on his feet soon and you get some sleep

MotherofZ · 26/09/2007 21:22

Ok - dug my notebook out. Here is the basic curry recipe:
Need:
2 Onions (thinly sliced)
2-3 (depending on size) tomoatoes (preferably liquidised, but can be chopped)
1 tsp salt (amend if more or less needed)
1 tsp fresh green chilli (minced and and more or less accordingly)
1 tsp dunia/jeera powder (corriander and cummin powder)
3/4 tsp tumeric
3/4 tsp ginger/garlic mix
2 tbsp oil
chicken/lamb

To cook:
Saute onions in oil until nicely golden brown. Then add tomato and spices until the oil has risen to the top (i.e simmer gently with lid closed until spices have mixed and tomatoes are blended). Then add meat. Cook for a few minutes until meat has sealed. Add a little water if needed and cook until meat is done. (make sure curry is not too watery - burn off any excess liquid at the end)
Hope this is simple to follow!!!

Sorry youre feeling unwell Motherofz , can you not go home? x

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 09:29

Morning ladies,

My spirits are slowly lifting this week. Havent worn make up all week and feel like a bit of a moose... have not brushed my hair either.... so disgusting.

Lulubump - your MIL sounds like she has good intentions... but perhaps you could just say you are happy for her to be round to see LO as much as she likes but you think you will just need a little space when you first get home, but that you might appreciate her staying a little way down the line. (assumign you want her staying at all) but then u can just stall it until you are ready or just forget.

Barristermum - happy to go with your recommendation - we dont eat curry out often so have no ideas myself. Covent Garden sounds like a good location. Do we want to bandy about some dates for late OCtober then?

Awen - bless your brave little boy. Get some rest and hope you both recover rapidly.

MotherofZ - copied the tikka masala recipe. was pleased to see the basic recipe is very simlar to what i do so havent been going far wrong with that. Thanks for that. Sorry to hear you ar enot feeling so good, seriously go home today, only today and tomorrow left, you dont wnat to be knackered and ill for the weekend.

Beller - glad you had a good evening, would be nice to keep in contact - it is important esp in those first few weekss when all you want to talk about is babies to have someone on the same page.

Hey to everyone else, hope you are all fine.

sideways · 27/09/2007 09:46

Awen - glad your ds operation went well. I hope he'll be back to his normal self soon.

MrsMcJr - is it today you are going to Spain? Have a lovely time and I'll be thinking of you next week for your due date.

Does anyone else have like an aching down below? It's almost like from the public bone all the way underneath and I can feel it most when I walk.

beller · 27/09/2007 10:08

Also forgot to say great news for skibump and goingfor3

I dnt have pain sideways, but bump is starting to feel quite heavy ?

pussycatmomma · 27/09/2007 10:19

hello all
I have actully managed to skim through the thread this time! Sounds like there are alot of us out there feeling a bit down at the moment, like someone said, it must be a hormone roller-coaster thing going on. A few weeks ago I was feeling ultra peachy and on top of the world health wise, now im in the doldrums and its only been a matter of weeks.
Ahh well, all things pass, thats what I keep reminding myself!
Am having a bit of a scruffy week like mixed mamma mentioned - definately moose-like!! Not preg related but does anyone else have the infinate problem of naturally curly hair on this thread? I have been straightening mine into submission for much of the past few years, but this week (at home, away from prying eyes!) have been going down the au-naturel route, and my, do I look like a sight this morning!! I feel as if it never looks tidy when its curly, and only feel "groomed" when its been straightened and looks glossy. Im trying to lighten up a bit with it - am sure when the bambino arrives I will have no time for hair smoothing!!
The lady who was considering buying wardrobes - we just bought some for our room from ikea - vast amount of storage with frosted glass doors, fairly stylish but well on budget. I think they are called the "pax" range of wardrobes (could be wrong). It sounds ridiculous, but in my mind, im suddenly starting to think - is our house big enough??? Am sure it is just pregnancy insanity as we live in a very normal sized 3 bed detatched, but suddenly not having a spare room to dump things in makes you think a whole lot more about available space.......
Has anyone started decorating babys room yet? I have got so far as emptying said spare room and taking down pictures/ curtain poles etc. Also bought some filler for the holes in the wall where the plugs have been! but that is as far as i have got. Very undecided on colours etc.
Someone said earlier about their mother in law coming to stay, and i know mrs mc mentioned mum in law buying loads of stuff for the baby......good luck to both of you!! When i asked dh's mother if she would knit be a blanket/shawl for baby, she firmly announced she had seen some great baby shawls on the car boot sales !!! So you see ladies, there is always a worse option!
Am envious of all who are purchasing baby clothes...havent got that far yet, decided on one thing at a time, and am going to get room finished and furnished before I start buying so i have somewhere to put it all! Had a somewhat enlightening conversation with a friend yesterday, who was informing me of what seemed to be etiquette of dressing your baby!! I was calmly floating along in the knowledge that it was un-necessary to purchase "outfits" for the baby, and that babygrows, all in one sleepsuits, plus a cardi/jacket/snowsuit would suffice for when it was tiny. How wrong I seem to be!! She firmly informed me both her babies were "dressed" in the morning and a baby in a babygrow all day was tantamount to leaving it in pyjamas all day So now i have the babys bloody wardrobe to worry about too!! any opinions gratefully received!
am loving the curry recipies, any chance of a meetup for us northern girls? London is an impossibility for me.
lots of love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

pussycatmomma · 27/09/2007 10:23

sideways i have exactly the feeling you are describing. Can feel it when walking but also when sitting down. Do you have the back pain as well? I was concerned about the spd thing, but midwife assured me that what i was getting was normal. Maybe chat to mwife about yours just for reassurance.

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 10:42

pussycatmomma - i used to dress my son everyday, but I was very much in the minority. I think either is normal really, just go with the flow. Buy your sleepsuits and people will buy clothes as gifts so if you want to dress them you can.

i actually had some really cool jumpsuits (rather than sleepsuits) and sometiems getting him dressed really meant putting him in one of these.

i wish my hair was curly to be honest. I have very thick hair and it is not dead straight (like you I love my hair straighten it looks so sleek and not thick and busshy). basically my hair is kinky and bushy.

nicky6 · 27/09/2007 10:51

Covent garden for curry sounds good to me.how about the last friday in october then none of us have to worry about getting up for work?

Am still getting v bad pain under my breast bone and nausea still around with coldsores, so am also feeling super attractive - I do however have absolutely straight hair so I dont have to straighten. Was meant to see osteopath but he called in sick - how annoying.

Am over optimistically booking myself in for a gym session on saturday so they can tell me what i am allowed to do. I thought if i could try to go at the weekend and then do my legs bums and pregnant tums in the week there may be hope!!! .

Hope all well - quite looking forward to scan tomorrow - although Dh very nervous - actually i dont think he has stopped being nervous since we found out i was pregnant!!!!

Hope all well

Eek!

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 11:02

That is 26 Oct then. is this ok?

fruitful · 27/09/2007 12:07

Lulubump - I've seen people recommend a book called The Good Granny Guide as a subtle way of telling grannies to back off a bit. Could you just say "oh how kind of you but we definitely don't want house guests then. You're welcome to pop over for a quick cup of tea whenever you like as long as you ring first to make sure we're awake". I think that would be completely reasonable and if she takes offence, well, she'll get over it! And if she phones, you can say "err not today we're knackered, bye" or "pleeeaase come over and take the baby out for a walk / cook us dinner", depending! Can you give her a job? Would she cook you some meals for the freezer? They like to feel useful!

Pussycat - my dd used to live several days at a time in the same babygro - if they don't sick or poo on it, it can stay on. Its not like they have any opportunity to get their clothes dirty, and they don't sweat! Ds was sicky so he had about 6 changes of babygro a day! I hate "outfits" tho - can just about cope with a long-sleeved bodysuit and some dungarees-with-feet on a newborn. Trousers and tshirts and socks are just a pain - you pick the baby up and the top rides up and socks fall off and the waistbands look uncomfy on their tummies.

Naetha - the Secrets of the Baby Whisperer one

beller · 27/09/2007 12:33

pussycatomamma - i have loads of babygros and sleepsuits that i intend to us ( mostly borrowed)..must be more comfortable? My hair is curly too....I blow dry it.have been trying to straighten it...when it gets wet and windy though its a losing battle!

26th October would be a good day for me?
x

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 12:36

Cool beller i am on a mission now then.

ahh straightened hair, feel like a trip to the hairdressers.
