Barristermum - re tampons, think i've missed whatever comment was made, but if i have to have stitches, i'm thinking of asking for an extra one put in! I haven't yet acquired a husband so am thinking i can't have a big baggy windsock-like-you-know-what.

Anyway, wouldn't an extra stitch just be just the same as getting vaginoplasty or whatever it's called.

Apols about the windsock comment if anyone find s it insulting!!!!

BAD Neuro

Neuro · 25/09/2007 15:09

And sorry to hear you're feeling bad MM x

MrsMcJnr · 25/09/2007 15:20

Barristermum ? sounds like a lovely day I?m at home too but have quite a bit of work I have to do, such a pity! That was close with that murder trial! like your names well done on the weight front that was the reason I didn?t put on in the first trimester either but it?s caught up with me now I was quite surprised how portable the real nappies were, yes, you have to bring them home and wash them but you get a special bag. Have to say, that?s fine in Scotland but I won?t be carrying them about in Spain, it?ll be disposable ones when we are out and about! Think there is risk of infection if you use tampons (certainly I was told not to after my MC)

Mixedmama ? that?s good to hear I?ve heard that they can sometimes be a problem with clothes as modern ones are made with slim line disposables in mind rather than big fleecy bottoms! Poor you

Neuro ? after finding the smell and taste of wine revolting from my BFP to 20 weeks, it now tastes like it used to again i.e. pretty damn good (not that I have been constantly testing throughout the pg but I couldn?t even pour DH?s in the early days) I?ve had ½ glass of red (small one) the last two Sats and I?ve really enjoyed it as has Beanie ? mucho kicking ? oh dear! Oh well, it is the child of DH and I after all sorry to hear about the bike

Hello KarenLouise I think the older generation just think terry?s, nappysan and safety pins but in reality, it is so different now! well done with the weight, sounds like you are really active, I have been so lazy still haven?t done my Davina DVD I bought months ago you also sound really organized

Got a nice surprise this morning ? a generous cheque from DH?s Gran think we?ll use it for whatever bed we go for

Mrs Biscuit ? I?ve noticed swelling in my hands and feet and calves in the evening, I bought some of the cooling spray from Boots, it?s lovely!

Beller I read that too ? I guess if you have to use the tumble dryer all the time to get them dry that really doesn?t help the environment much! Amelie is nice too.

Hey Cazzybaby ? for us, the draw of the real nappies is also in the cost saving we are going to be living on very little when we first go to Spain and apparently your average disposables can cost you £10 a week and I think the bio ones would be more. Sorry about the infection hon

Lilyloo that?s so good that DH is sticking to it!

Gingeme ? that?s interesting about the pads, are they incontinence ones? Sounds bizarre but DH bought some for me by mistake when I had MC and I found them much better than standard mat towels.

BeckyAu ? LOL that?s a very specific craving! Glad you are all enjoying the new house. Well done, you are putting me to shame I must do my DVD too! I?ll try twice a week I think. Luckily I have no choc in the house, might have to resort to cooking choc though!

MotherofZ ? oh God! my memory!!! Yes of course, I remember DD?s name!! total classic from my nephew yesterday ? my sis took him to the
loo at a play place and a lady had just left the cubicle that he went in and was standing right outside when he very loudly said 'that?s disgusting mummy, that lady hasn?t flushed the chain and there?s a doodoo in there, why do some people do disgusting things?' he just wouldn?t let it go either, she was trying to talk over him so she wouldn?t hear him! Classic

Thanks for the tip Angechica ? sounds interesting!

Naetha ? I?m with you, if I can keep the gain under 2 stone, that would be good.

BeckyAu · 25/09/2007 15:40

I have 2 words for you all... Malt Loaf x

BeckyAu · 25/09/2007 15:42

I was looking at carpet samples in a shop when the assistant said she ate loads of malt loaf during her pregnancy. I've not had that for about 30 years but scurried out of the shop straight to the supermarket for malt loaf. Cann ot tell you how yummy it is. Have just had 2 thin slices but in all honesty could happily sit and eat the entire thing. This is precisely why I don't have a neat round bump. I have a fat covered bump

Naetha · 25/09/2007 15:43

Loved the windsock comment

My husband has been using the Yorkshire term "like chucking a sausage up Briggate" Briggate being the main shopping street in Leeds

And yes the crowning bit of knocked up scared the bejeesus out of me, and in all honesty I wasn't sure if it was necessary. I was happy in my fantasy world where between me being pregnant and me holding my baby a stork was involved!!!

I have to admit, having never giving birth before I'm a bit disappointed that I won't be able to use tampons - surely they're preferable to all the gloop? Well maybe not for the first week or so!

What are peoples' ideas for post-baby contraception? (Going on Gingeme's experience that breastfeeding is not effective contraception) Condoms aren't an option as we're lazy and always end up not using them, I don't want to go on the pill as it turns me into a horrible human being, and I always forget to take them anyway, so what are the other options? Whats this Mirena Coil people are always talking about? Certainly don't want more kids straight after, if indeed more kids at all, but not ready for DH to have the snip.

beller · 25/09/2007 15:48

Naetha - Mine is no man! 100pct guarentee!

beckyau - i always have a malt loaf in the cupboard...mmmmmmmmmmmm

Cazzybaby · 25/09/2007 15:49

Are epidurals painful??

Naetha · 25/09/2007 15:51

Unfortunately Beller my idea of reliable contraception is no sex, but with DH's sex drive being that of a 14 year old boy's its tough to maintain!

Ooh I sound horrible don't I

beller · 25/09/2007 15:58

hmm and i have a quite a high SD, oh well...dosnt seem to be killing me so far..im sure ill survive!

Naetha · 25/09/2007 16:41

Well I have a reasonable sex drive, admittedly it gets tempered by problems with my bladder (pain problems that is, not the other sort ) but DH is under the impression that its normal to want to have sex several times a day

Bless him

Neuro · 25/09/2007 16:57

I must admit i keep having incredibly sexual dreams.

Quite looking forward to doing it again - ONE DAY! When me windsock has shrunk a bit.

Jenswish · 25/09/2007 17:07

well still hurting, MW still says nothing can be done but if i'm worried to go in tonight.

I think its prob BH but ive got toothache to go with it now which is just not fun.

MrsMcJnr · 25/09/2007 17:51

PMSL Neuro!

BeckyAu ? ohh I love that malt loaf!

Naetha ? I was always a tampon girl but when we were TTC and it took us quite a long time, I gave them up as I read that can help. Not sure if it did or not but it was worth a shot! I?ve heard coils can be quite good after you?ve had a child. You just want one then? I could have done with a DH with a sex drive like yours when we were TTC ? my DH is a little less interested that said, things have picked up again now I am pg, maybe he felt there was a gun to his head!

Poor you Jenswish

Hope you are all doing your pelvic floor exercises! And clennnnnnnnnnnchhhhhhhhh!

LilyLoo · 25/09/2007 20:07

Poor you Jenswish.
Have to lol that the main topic of convo today seems to be malt loaf and tampons
Just wondered if anyone watching bringing up baby channel 4 tonight at 9pm suppose to be very contraversial ?

chunkypudding · 25/09/2007 20:26

Wow! Don't know where to start to catch up with you guys - feel like a real newbie!! Have been on the preg boards and posted occasionally but have just found the birth clubs... am very slow obviously.

Wanted to say hi - I'm due Jan 3rd, my first so am excited/terrified....

Feeling crappy today. Low iron so am knackered, have been prescribed pregaday, hope it works soon!

Also feeling a bit sad/guilty as a really good friend of mine miscarried few days ago at 6 weeks... they'd been trying for a LO for ages so I know it must be really tough. Hard to know the right things to be doing, and am so obviously up the duff myself really don't want to rub it in...

barristermum · 26/09/2007 06:44

Welcome chunkypudding! we are a very chatty lot on here and nothing seems to be taboo!
Morning the rest of you - am up early for last min trial in Soton where have no brief so need to get there early to swot up.
On the contraception front, if tampons are as bad as all the veterans say it is going to be quite some time before I'm allowing anything else up there !!!!!

beller · 26/09/2007 07:20

HI Chunkypudding...Im in a similar situation with one of my best friends. She miscarried at 8+5, but only found out at her 12 week scan, she is devastated. We have spoke regulary though and she said she still wants to hear about the baby, she wants hers, not anybody elses. It is tough though, just be there for her xxxx

Mrsmcjnr - I remember when i was married and trying for a baby,EH was the same! I asked him if he had written to father xmas for a baby, as thats the only way we were getting one!

Lillyloo - I watched that! Thought it was very good....A bit scary!! the first woman scaref the hell out of me...Not alowed to look at the baby while feeding!! And no cuddles ....I must admit my closest views would be with the "spock" method? Good programme though, I enjoyed it, made me really excited for meeting babybel! I then dreamt I had a boy, that grew out of his cot in a week!!! I have bought a cot/bed!!! hahaha

Hope you are all well xxxxxxxxxx

MotherofZ · 26/09/2007 08:05

Morning all
Hope you all are well.

Having a 'low' day today - DD wanted loads of cuddles and kisses this morning before I left for work and she wouldn't let me go. Realised that I was running late for work so handed her over to DH and the she started to cry.
Feel really sh!tty now...

mixedmama · 26/09/2007 09:17

Morning ladies...

Malt loaf seems to be popular for the last two weeks I have been buying it, completely addicted. Delicious.

I am looking at the coil or is it diaphram for contraception....basically something that I can have fitted and then forget about. I went on the pill last time as i didnt want anybody else poking around, i was really rubbish about remembering to take it tho, so we went to condoms which we were equally lax about hence how we are now here.

Watched Bringing Up Baby last night. I would think that really the spock way is pretty much best for most people since you go with what you feel, hence you could do routine and attachment or either since it would be what you want. I saw benefits in all even the scary routine one.... I would just be a lot more flexible.... like why couldnt you take the baby for a walk to get the fresh air, why do youhave to leave it in the garden by itself. But, she is right fresh air will tire the baby out, but there are better ways to get fresh air.

mixedmama · 26/09/2007 09:18

MotherofZ - sorry you are feeling low. I have been liek that last two days but finally seem to be feeling better today.

Bettymamma · 26/09/2007 09:48

Morning all

Sorry to hear your low motherofz - had similar thing happen with my dd this morning. I was off yesterday so she really didn't want me to leave this morning. So horrible to see them that upset.

I watched the programme last night and am guessing I followed the Spock version of things (I actually followed the Baby Whisperer). Totally agree with Motherofz though - could see the benefits of all of them. Gina Ford is like the scary routine lady but there can get to a point when you've had 6 weeks of no sleep where you really want someone to dictate you a strict routine.

Barristermum - i agree. Would love to have a coil in theory but am not sure how quickly my down belows will recover this time!

MrsMcJnr - I'm CLENCHHINNNGG

I'm trying to find this windsock comment - can anyone fill me in.....!!

MotherofZ · 26/09/2007 09:49

cheers MM - are you feeling better today? Realised yesterday that after my comment you went all emotional.....

I think people have noticed that I am feeling a bit crappy today as they all keep asking me how I am and am so on the verge or bursting into tears. Because I am always collected and professional at work really feel like I need to hold it together.

pussycatmomma · 26/09/2007 09:57

hello all...
I am back to my usual "rubbish correspondant" persona, havent managed to read all or catch up so I'll just dive in. I find this thread so fast moving! Somehow I seemed to have time before I was preg, to do things like chat on mn, but alas, no more! (Lord knows what I will be like when the baby arrives, I shall be a cyber hermit!) I am feeling a bit fragile at the moment, not sure why, just a bit weepy and anxious. I am still suffering with my back, but have started using a tens machine at night which is soothing. I am off work at the moment, due back in a week - maybe this is why i have more "worry-time".
My sister has undergone the embryo transfer part of the ivf and now she is on the 2week wait, I think she tests on October 8th.
Has anyone decided on any names yet? Or is it all just a hazy fog?
We are more or less decided on a boys name (Oscar William Noah) but am still deliberating on a girls name. Dh has this obsession with 2 middle names, seems bizarre to me, I think 1 would be plenty, but I have to let him have his own way on something! Girls names we have Isabelle or Alice for the first names and then a whole host of names still on the list for the other 2.
i am obviously rambling into the wilderness now, so will pootle off and get showered and dressed.
((pusscat ambles off to get distracted by a million other things before even getting to the bathroom...)))
Hope you are all well and have a great day xxx

Bettymamma · 26/09/2007 09:59

Motherofz - is there any chance you could go home early if you feel rotten. It really is pants feeling like that at work. I had a very dodgy stomach yesterday and although I knew I could physically cope at work I just thought I would probably go mad if i was there.

Mixedmama - are you feeling better after the vomiting episode?

Regarding windsock - (yes i've finally catched up) - my you-know-whats were ALOT tighter after giving birth and it was not like throwing a banana down oxford street at all. I was a born again virgin and it wasn't great.
