Sorry Mrsmcjnr - no pics that I know off x

fruitful · 20/09/2007 14:09

Lulubump - thoughts on not buying a pram -

Ooh yes. I hate the way we all buy a big expensive pram that meets all your needs for 6 months and then stick it in the garage and switch to a £30 umbrella fold for the next 2 years! And I only know about 2 people who haven't done that.

you might want to research what pram you'd get and where from, if you needed to get one earlier, so you can just send dh out to quickly buy it if it turns out you do need one.

Some of the umbrella-fold prams are suitable from birth (maclaren techno).

If you have a small baby, it may be quite a bit older than 3 months before you feel like putting it in a pushchair. The gap between the shoulder straps and the waist strap was longer than the total length of my 3-month-old.

Having a section prob won't make much difference - by the time I was able to push a pram I could also carry the baby in a sling.

With a small baby you can go out and sit in cafes and suchlike while it snoozes in the pram. This is lovely and doesn't happen when you have a toddler! But not so pleasant if you're holding the baby the whole while?

I had a non-sleeping baby and I used to take her for a walk in the pram, get her off to sleep and then come home and leave her in the pram. I needed that pram.

But there are gazillions on ebay - you could get a really cheap one quite quickly if you found you needed one.

Sorry I've written an essay!

Lulubump · 20/09/2007 15:12

Hmm, you've given me quite a bit to think about fruitful, and now I'm really not sure what to do [hmmm]. I think I'll be sensible, and wait (I can always buy one online after the baby's born - will definitely check out ebay). Had a look online at the Maclaren Techno, and some of the reviews thought newborns got a little lost in there (similar to your point about the straps).

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH - total panic. I am going to be dithering about this until the last minute - I can just tell.

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 15:28

Beanie has clothes

Just had a very successful shop in Boots I got £15 worth of free stuff, money off and extra points! I got the last of my family Christmas pressies before you think I am a freak - I am taking them to Spain when I go next Friday as I won?t see my parents again until afterwards and the rest of the family are going there for Christmas ? taking them in my luggage is much cheaper than posting them! I also got 6 lovely, white patterned but flavour neutral sleepsuits for £12.50 (buy one, get one ½ price)

beller · 20/09/2007 15:38

Yayyyyyyyyy for beanies clothes Mrsmcjnr! Mothercare are doing that offer too for anyone interested. Im on the same wavelength as you re xmas pressies. Have mailed both sisters today to ask what they/children and spouses want..as im not going anywhere near bluewater in December!! x

mixedmama · 20/09/2007 15:49

Afternoon,

Just couldnt resist popping on quickly even though I am off today...

Last night was good fun, thanks so much for orgainising gingeme. Sorry I had to leave early.

Hey to everyone MrsMcJnr your MW sounds rubish, mine is dismissing like that as well, I just let her wash over me only have to see her for a little while longer. Made me laugh when you said "dont become a gang" very funny.

We have our travel system from last time, but the wheels and the whole thing is huge, we did the classic buy this thing that you think is going to be all wonderful and then bought a little zippy mclaren and use it all the time.

Take care ladies and I am sure I will be back tomorrow with multiple posts as usual.

ladylush · 20/09/2007 15:58

Hello again Thanks Mrs McJnr - don't know if they tested me for a hereditary clotting condition but they tested for thrombophilias, clotting and chromosomes. Clarins oil good but so expensive eh. 4 bottles I made 2 last me! What's going on with your midwife? Didn't know how far to scroll back

barristermum · 20/09/2007 16:00

Hey ladies,
I am having such an efficient day in Chambers - of my list of 21 things to do I have crossed off 14 and a half! [smug emoticon required]
Gingeme, Beller and mixedmama it was a delight to meet you all and I am totally up for a further november meet up when hopefully more London ladies can do it. Nicky6 - you should have just come along?! Bettymamma - what happened we missed you , toomanyshoes, hope you and dd feeling much better. Gingeme - how funny re your husband - get him to wave frantically next time he sees me. Mrs McJnr, I am a large bobbed auburn hair black clad 33 yr old with a gap between my eye teeth. I will try and work out how to post some pictures, tho' am sure will never get round to it. Awen, wd love to meet you for a quick lunch if you can get near the court on London Road, or maybe an afternoon tea somewhere round Bedford Place or that place opposite the Mayflower? What a little social network we are becoming?!
Mrs McJnr - I waved generally at you when we were in Scotland - we had a fab wedding and my only regret was that I couldn't indulge in the single malt with the same apparent enjoyment of other guests - I LOVE an islay. Your midwife sounds horrendous - I am in deep funk with the medical profession after Mon - I was so miserable I had a deeply vivid dream I miscarried beannie and woke up SURE i wasn't pg anymore until beannie reassuringly kicked. It's a thing about small people suddenly exercising the little power they have. Exasperating!

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 16:28

Beller ? a lady after my own heart. We don?t seem to have a Mothercare here ? isn?t that odd?

Hey Mixedmama ? enjoy your day off

Ladylush ? I?m sorry I am not being helpful at all am I? I have never seen my own break down of blood but I have seen my Mum?s and she too had a section where they had checked for hereditary chromosomal defects like Factor II which we have. I know I?ve used a lot of the oil but I figure that I have to do thighs, tummy, hips, bum and boobs and well ? it?s a growing region! Nothing really going on with my MW she just doesn?t like patients who ask her questions and I always have lots. Got cross with myself yesterday as I had more to ask and didn?t.

Barristermum very efficient indeed I have a pic of you in my mind now, thanks! thanks for the wave, yes indeed, a Scottish wedding sober is an acquired skill, I?ve now managed 3 so far but hope they were the last ? though I do have a gay wedding in December! sorry about your dream ? its just your worries going active as I am sure you know but still horrible to have all the same.

gingeme · 20/09/2007 16:56

Mrsmcjnr Clown Town is a soft play place especialy for lo's. The one we go to has toddler time between 12-2 which they bring toys out for the kids to play with. They also supply sandwiches and squash and carrots and cucumber. Was our last time for a while today though as ds3 starts nursery next week and the friend I usualy meet there her lo starts play group next week too.
Thankyou for describing your self Barristermum as I was scared Id offend. Sounds like you had a very efficient day today. Good for you
Bargain with the baby clothes Mrsm. Must admit not being my first baby I do miss shopping for new baby stuff though I still do. Still have no idea about double buggies though. The ones weve seen so far have not been what were looking for at all.
Hope you enjoyed your 'day off' mixedmamma though there isnt such a thing when you have a lo already is there?
My heart burn was pretty full on today but I kept it at bay with some yum yums from Asda this afternoon
Take care all xx

Cazzybaby · 20/09/2007 17:39

Hello All

I have not posted for weeks as have been moving house and only just got connected up to the internet again.

I had my scan yesterday at 22 weeks and was delighted to find out we are having a baby girl!! She is looking good measuring right for her dates and spent the whole scan thumping me in the bladder bless her!!

Hope everyone is well I am going to try to catch up with the post its sooooo long!!

For those discussing oils to help with stretch marks I am using BIO OIL, its great stuff I used it after my appendix operation and it really helped with the scar, is ment to be good to help with stretch marks.

BWMum · 20/09/2007 17:53

Bad day for us...!
At my scan last month the sonographer told me the placenta is low lying at the moment but not to worry, they usually move up before birth. Was really very casual about it all.

Saw the consultant today who tells me that there are a whole lot of risks with this etc etc but it may move up and all be ok. However, from now until Bean arrives DH and I are not allowed to have sex at all! Not like we've been continually at it, but the idea of cutting out entirely is a bit of a shock!
Also means my fond hopes of a home birth may be completely out the window. Obviously home birth is not an option if placenta is still low lying then (we have another scan at 36 weeks to check) but consultant was very negative about it even if it had moved away entirely.

So, bit of an upside down day. I don't really understand why sonographer didn't tell us the "dos and don'ts" a month ago as we've been carrying on with "normal life"...

On the plus side, I've had absolutely no bleeding or anything (and 25 weeks right now) so hopefully the placenta is rapidly moving up or away or whatever it's supposed to do and I can still have the home birth...

On a cheerier note, I'm very impressed at all the purchasing going on! Must get on with buying all the things on my list. I am now back to square one on the buggy front as very worried we're about to spend a fortune on a travel system that we mothball after six months.

barristermum · 20/09/2007 18:54

Yay Cazzybaby - congratulations - we needed some girls to even up this thread a bit.
BWMum I'm impressed - I have to say, since getting pg sex has sadly been the last thing on mine and dh's mind. Am sorry you have to deal with this problem, but impressed that having to abstain is a sacirifice! Chin up.

LilyLoo · 20/09/2007 19:29

poor you bwmum what's the reasoning behind that ?
Glad you all had a good night sadly never going to be able to have one we can all make.
Congrats Cazzy on scan, any names ?
Lovely furniture Awen, i suppose i should go up the loft some time to see what i have and what i need to get. A bit like you Gingeme, it's not quite the same is it ?
What an awful dream barristermum
Hi ladylush hows things ?
Beller and Mrs Mc you both making me feel very disorganised haven't even begun to think about xmas.
Lulu tbh i would look at the smaller prams for newborns as i was, when able desperate to get out of the house to get baby to sleep and to get away from the monotony. If you go to the shops the slings can get heavy and you have nowhere to put the shopping.
Hope you had nice day off mm.
Hello to everyone else!
Have to say i am beginning to feel 'heavy' up front now and the backache is beginning to kick in, i can feel myself no longer standing straight, think i 'bloomed' and missed it

ayrshirelolo · 20/09/2007 22:01

Hello everyone!
Sounds like a good night out for those of you that made it, maybe we shoud do a night for all us northern lasses? Could be fun to see what we all look like! {right now i feel old and fat!! }
another wee musing on pram / buggy stuff... the three wheeler bit of out travel system still gets used (dd is 15 months) even though we also have an umbrella folding thingy, as if you're taking the wee one for a big walk and not a wee toddle round town it's comfier to push and you can get more shopping in it! The umbrella thingy is fab for public transport, boot of car etc but a pain in the bottom for longer walks.
Awen, gorgeous furniture!
MrsMcJnr, your Mw sounds like a bit of a harridan who is probably threatened by a mum who is well educated and informed and not intimidated, let her have it next time with LOADS of questions!!
Barristermum, the sober wedding is a tough one, looking forward to a wee Speyside or two once the baby arrives! Always makes me feel like i'm watching a function in a foreign language if i'm the sober one, or maybe i just drink too much when i'm not up the duff!
Glasgow holiday weekend this weekend, so not bac at work till Tuesday... yipee! Nice weekend with dd, dh and dsd in prospect - avoiding the torrential rain. Just as well they make us northerers waterproof!
Have a good one, girlies. lolo xx

MotherofZ · 20/09/2007 22:11

Evening or rather good night all.
Good to hear that you had a lovely meet up. Very that I couldn't be there. Any pictures?
Been at home today with bad pelvic bone/SPD (?) pain, was really struggling to come down the stairs with my awkward stiffness that I fell down the last couple and slightly injured myself on the left hand side of bump. Was umming and aahhhing over whether to go hospital, but felt loads of strong kicks which reassured me.
Congratulations on the scan Cazzy - any nams picked?
Right off to catch up with Eastenders and find out if Cindy is alive or what???

OP posts:
beller · 21/09/2007 08:50

motherofz- hope you feel better soon..there isnt much they can do is there? ((((hug))))

Cazzybaby - congratulations on your girl!! Im starting to think babybell is pink..but who knows! Im using Bio oil too....all good so far..but probably going to double in size!

BMwmum - Sorry to hear your placenta is low lying, hope it moves back up...and im sure you can have plenty of heavy petting!

Lillyloo- i feel like that too....definately feeling "front heavy".. x

ayreshirlolo - Enjoy your long w/e! x

What do we all have planned for the weekend?
Mine is quite quiet..Curry with a friend tongiht..then I have my friend + Family coming over for dinner tomorrow, shes the one im hopefully setting the nursery up with, so lots of chat about that. Then a relaxing sunday! Hope you all have a great weekend xxx

gingeme · 21/09/2007 09:07

Good morning ladies. I have a teerible sore throat this morning probably caught it off one of my boys. Feeling decidedly sick too.
Woah take it easy motherofz rest up as much as you can. Yes the kicks are very re assuring after a fall arent they?
BWmum have they said your placenta might move up? A lady on my October thread has just been told the same(she is due in Feb) and the mw told her theres a good chance of the placenta moving up.
Not much planned this weekend realy going to my sil's tommorrow for a chinese. Dh goes back to work on Sunday so not much doing thne.
Oh barristermum dh has got his 'snip' appt through at last. pre assessmemt 24th Oct,ds4's birthday, and his op 31st Oct, Halloween

Angechica · 21/09/2007 09:08

cazzybaby I have this really strong feeling I'm having a girl as well, based mainly on flimsy evidence such as my milk cravings.

PS your pics make me so nostalgic for the days when I used to go to Glasto ...

Mrs M - Curry does NOT agree with me at the moment! And we used to eat it at least once a week.

Lulubump · 21/09/2007 10:02

BWMum - I was also told I have a low lying placenta, so they've scheduled another scan for me at 36weeks, so they can see exactly where it is, and if it is covering the cervix then it'll have to be s c-section. Apparently it moves away from the cervix in 90% of cases. I'm not too stressed about it though, trying to look at that 90% postive statistic rather than the 10% negative. Worryingly though, I haven't been told ANYTHING about not having sex! Haven't had any bleeding/spotting either. And actually haven't seen a consultant at all, been under midwife care, as apparently I am still classed as 'low risk'. What did your consultant say about the risks of having sex?

Bettymamma · 21/09/2007 10:33

Ladies how are you all?

Am so sorry to have missed the meet up - I'm trying to read through the thread to see what happened. I had no babysitter as DH is STILL NOT BACK FROM CHINA - aghhh! Heading towards 4th week of being away. He's with the England women's football team and they appear to be doing very well in the World Cup . Never mind - I get to see him on tv when the matches are on!?!

Awen - is you dp off to Japan this weekend or next?

Quick catch up:

MrsMcJnr - stretchmarks - my sis and my mum COVERED IN THEM. I used shea butter from body shop and don't have any. You can decide from that if creams work! Sorry to hear MW being rubbish.

Barristermum: missed you all too. Would have loved to have met you all.

Gingeme: If you arrange something again let me know! Clowntown sounds fab. Am missing Monkey music today cos have had to come into work. Am gutted - even more so than my dd.

Cazzybaby - Another girl YIPPEE! Congrats. I have a pink bump too. Girls are the best.

BWmum - sorry to hear about low lying placenta - you too lulubump. Hope all goes ok. And am so sorry to hear no sex as well! It will go fast in the scheme of things but I know thats probably no help at the moment.

MotherofZ - how is the spd today? you ok? Never had it myself but know others who have. Very painful - i hope you are ok.

speak soon - cakes in the board room I've just been told! how excitingxxx

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2007 10:46

phew.. has been busy on here

Cazzy = congratulations on scan & lovely that you are having little girl.

BWMum - I had low lying placenta with ds1 but it moved up sodidnt cause a problem I did have a very small bleed. They think it was a little of placent as it stretched up.

Barristermum - now I am a lazy SAHM I can usually free up a lunchtime. Bedford place/london road sounds good. Fair few cafes etc there.

Bettymamma - 4 weeks without dp poor you. I feel quite embarrassed to moan about 2 weeks. Thanks for remembering my dp, he flies out tomorrow morning. When he comes back will already be in 3rd trimester! Your dp is going to see such a change in you i guess when he comes home.

Lilyloo - I know what you mean about the loft stuff. All clothes I have atm were ds's. So glad i kept them tho as will save money. The moses basket is family on (40 years old!) Me and all my sisters slept in it as did most of our children. Is nice tho to get some new bits.

MrsMcJnr - how exciting buying bits for beanie.

I am fine today, been listening to puddings heart withthe summer baby listening thing and it is great

MotherofZ · 21/09/2007 10:51

Morning all,
Thanks for your well wishes. SPD better than yesterday but not completely gone - pain is still there. Dragged myself into work today and walking weird like Worzel Gummidge (sp-anyone remember him?).

Bettymama - your DP job sounds facinating!

BMWmum and lulu - hope everything goes ok given the low lying placenta. Well done abou the positive thinking.

Gingme - hope you feel ok soon.

Beller - hope you have a nice time tonight. DH was so sweet yesterday and bought me a lovely pizza to cheer me up. Nothing like a bit of comfort food! I daren't stand on the scales as I have been have a few too many pigging out days. Nothing much planned for the weekend - just want to relax.

Hope everyone else is ok.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 21/09/2007 11:37

Morning,

Started reading and then popped out to get a choco bar and cant remember who said what

MotherofZ - sorry for your fall. Hope you feel better.

Low lying placenta can be worrying, but 90% is very high.

Hi to everyone, for those feeling ill, pleased for those with busy weekends.

Bored silly.

Bettymamma · 21/09/2007 11:45

All this talk of food is making me hungry! I think i might have a curry tonight. I could not eat curry when breastfeeding dd and that was the hardest thing ever (it gave her horrendous wind and would result in HOURS of crying - just awful).

Mixedmama - bored silly too. Have loads to do but can't be bothered.

Motherofz - pizza yummm. Yes avoid those scales. Too scary. I remember Worzel he scared me.

Awen - yes my bump has grown loads since August so he will be quite shocked I think. I bet even you'll dp will see difference in 2 weeks as well! Is ds's operation next week? Fingers crossed
