Hope you all keeping well.

Before today I literary bought absolutely nothing for the baby, now I've not a snuzpod, two milk bottles, a bottle warmer, a sleepsuit, a nappy changing matt, nappy cream, nipple cream, milk bottle brush and detergent, and wet wipes --- all on way to me arriving tomorrow 🤪 will continue to look into clothes and bath stuff later/ tomorrow. Still no idea about pram.!

I've got a few silly question pls

  1. what are muslins for ?
  2. do I need to prepare some formula too (just in case I've got no /not enough milk)
  3. do I stock some nappies now?
  4. what kind of clothes best for new borns?.. wraps??

I honestly don't know what I do without this group without you ladies ! xxx

@Rinoa awww I can imagine xx what a stressful and emotional time... is he feeling okay?

I bought some maternity underwear from Uniqlo and some from H&M all are quite comfy to wear. x

@umabb Muslins are fab, mopping up baby sick, used as a bib, breast feeding cover, light weight swaddle. Then after baby, cleaning cloths, face cloths!
As for baby clothes and stick with some vests/bodysuits, sleepsuits/rompers, socks, cardigan, cotton hat.

umabb · 18/03/2020 17:24

Thanks so much @Blizy xx

@Rinoa that must be so hard for you and DH! I can't imagine being away from my DH at the moment, but I will have to if he becomes unwell and that's worrying. How is he feeling?

Thanks for the advice on baby monitors, I will be ordering one soon. I think I will get the one where you can see baby.

DH is currently out trying to find me some gluten free pasta but he can't find any! Very worrying.

Rinoa · 18/03/2020 17:52

@chocolate26 he's feeling much better thank God but he is being very protective and doesn't want to leave anything to chance. So we will FaceTime during mealtimes to keep all of us sane lol

Smiffette · 18/03/2020 20:29

@chocolate26 I was just looking at baby monitors. So many to choose from? But like you I will aim to get one where I can see baby and that does 2 way sound.

I was starting think I'm going to have to buy a lot online now with isolation advice, but there's something's, like changing bag, that I really want to go and see in person.

@smiffette we have bought a Motorola one that does all that. We saw it in Boots for £99 but when DH was looking at reviews on his phone with it, we found one on ebay and won it for £37. It seems like it'll be really good. You can have an app on your phone as well as the monitor. I was concerned about WiFi hacking but DH is a master of all things IT related and he has made sure it's as secure as it can be. We won't need it for a good few months really anyway. We already have 4 cctv camera outside the house and a 'petcam' downstairs (my BIL is a security and alarm engineer so we get things very cheaply) so I'm used to cameras being everywhere!

APD1981 · 19/03/2020 06:10

I bought a new crib mattress for the 'family' crib yesterday off amazon as I think it's the only thing we actually NEED that we haven't got yet. Anything else is just supplementary. I also bought a soft touch bath seat thing as I think I'd prefer baby to be propped up safely in the bath. Both will be here by tomorrow. I do still need a cot and a bed + mattress for baby's room and I think I've found what I want so will order today.

I knit and crochet a lot so I'm really looking forward to having the time to make baby clothes and toys now. There are a few slivers of silver linings with all this chaos and worry!

Just in case anyone is interested, the positive birth company is offering their digital course for £12 today rather than £39. Here's the link: digitalpack.thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/p/the-positive-birth-company-digital-pack/?product_id=1221876&coupon_code=2TODAY

Gigitree · 19/03/2020 10:31

Thanks @cb31 kind of annoyed at myself for buying it full price 2 days ago! 🙄🙄

Cb31 · 19/03/2020 11:17

@Gigitree aww no, sorry! Is there a cancellation period with it? If not I'd email them and say you've seen this offer and can they refund the difference. Might be worth a try x

UKtoSK · 19/03/2020 11:17

@Cb31 thank you so much for sharing! Just bought it and started watching. I’m so excited to work through the course.

BabyBird20 · 19/03/2020 11:21

I am having the most hormonal day yet! Think the reality of not seeing people for the next 12 weeks is kicking in so distracting myself with the positives!! I'm loving all the suggestions for things on here, thanks ladies! Going to do some online shopping for baby and start getting the house ready! 😍

newbyxx · 19/03/2020 11:56

I've officially started my maternity leave today as was only way around staying off! I know I've made the right decision and feel like a weight has been lifted. I'm still not back untill feb 2021 so get a good amount of time off with baby! Can just focus on relaxing and preparing for little mans arrival now!

28+5 x

BabyBird20 · 19/03/2020 12:13

@newbyxx congrats!! That's so exciting!! I am sorely tempted to do the same as my anxiety and blood pressure is going up which I'm trying to avoid!!

MsMiaWallace · 19/03/2020 12:26

Thanks for the new thread.

Wow can't believe guys are starting Mat leave already!

I'm officially working from home now. It's surreal as my job is pubic front line usually so I'm not used to this. It was bad enough on restricted duties in the office!
Least can relax more at home.
All the nice maternity clothes I bought for work too Hmm

Missgemini · 19/03/2020 12:56

Wow! We are really getting to the end now! People can officially start maternity leave now! Congrats @newbyxx

Guys I have a fairly selfish point to make. Don't judge me too harshly! We have a lodger that was due to leave between now and mid May. We were going to use her room for the nursery. She works in the gig economy (bars, hotels etc), so who knows what will happen to her salary.
Of course, we would never kick her out into the street, but I now cannot guarantee when we will get the room back for the nursery in light of the government's plans. We also wanted to be alone with the baby (due 2nd June). I now can't even order anything because the baby things were meant to go into her room. I don't know what I'm trying to say, but I feel like I can't make progress in the prep for baby! Sorry if it sounds like serious first world problems!
I just hate this whole situation! I'm hormonal and want my normal life back!

29+2

UKtoSK · 19/03/2020 13:00

I’m glad for everyone who is now able to either work from home or take time off so that you can feel safe. For those of you who are feeling anxious or depressed at the moment, I want to say that it gets easier. I’m about a month ahead of you in the self-isolation process here in Korea and the first few days/week were hard and the news was so stressful but by focusing on relaxing and connecting with baby and preparing for her arrival has made it quite a happy time all things considered. Get outside in the garden or for walks whenever you can. Make sure to video chat with friends and family as much as possible and know that you’re not alone!

UKtoSK · 19/03/2020 13:05

@Missgemini ahh that’s a really difficult situation. I’m sure she doesn’t expect to overstay given you have a baby coming... but has she mentioned where she was planning to go to next? I’d be wanting to ask her but not wanting to make her feel pressured.. so tough!

Gigitree · 19/03/2020 13:07

That’s not a bad idea @Cb31 I might try that!

@UKtoSK it think it’s the perfect time for us to start this hypnobirthing isn’t it with all this stress going on! I’ve watched a few so far and I’m really enjoying it!

Congratulations @newbyxx That’s really exciting! Wow feb 2021 that’s a great amount of time! You must feel so much better now!

@missgemini aww that is such a tough position to be in. I think you just need to have a word with the lodger, they may well already be thinking about their next steps and have something lined up, you never know. Just say you were wondering if they are still planning to move out in the next month or so and seeing as the baby is coming soon you guys would just like to confirm what their plans are so you can make arrangements. Then that’s not you kicking them out, but it also means you can open up a dialogue with them and I’m sure if they are a reasonable human they will get where you’re coming from.

Gigitree · 19/03/2020 13:09

Thanks for the tips @UKtoSK ❤️ Sounds like you’re handling things really well!

Busylizzie85 · 19/03/2020 13:12

@Missgemini I would sit down and have a conversation with her, she'll understand you have a difficult decision to make but she needs a plan now regardless given that her industry is not great in these tricky times. Maybe she has family she can go stay with or friends!? Might be that she stays slightly longer to sort things out but she must understand your having baby and always new it was temporary.
I would just be open and honest I'm sure she'll understand.
