I got to work to only be sent home about an hour later once the area manager decided it was the safest thing to do! I am glad the company I work for can see sense. I was worried about pay but apparently I will still receive pay for the foreseeable as normal!

My boss is also taking precautions and seeing if my replacement can start early. I think hes more worried about my sons nursery closing and him having to do my job rather than me 😂😂

My dh is emergency services so its harder for him to take time off...

I have 2 weeks holiday left to use so will then just start maternity early. Its not great financially but we have savings so i think we will be ok.
Its only me and my boss at work and ocassionally 2 others. I've told him I'm not going to supermarkets / warehouses/ shopping centres (all part of my job) that everything will have to be delivered and he's agreed

I do think it's crazy when work still resists even when the government strongly advises things.... I have a feeling they will tell me the same. I was on review to wfh 2 weeks. With the news out now I asked them to guarantee I will wfh until my mat leave (due 5th June) .

@newbyxx that's annoying! I would definitely be wanting to stay off if I worked on an elderly ward, it's crazy they don't understand more, especially your midwife, mine was really supportive and basically told me to stay off, she said the baby is more important than work and when I have kept him safe for 29 weeks whats the point in risking anything for the last 11! She wrote a note for my boss just to say she suggests and agrees I stay off work.
Hope you don't have to go back as normal xx

@Rinoa I'm a physio assistant therefor a very hands on job with no option to complete anything at home I'm guessing that's why I'm not being giving that option

@AmyMaria2 that's really good yours has done that! I can't understand why mine aren't getting it. I'm still waiting to here back today as to what's happening but don't feel like it's going to be food news 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thanks for setting this up! I was on the old thread as hjbows88 but going to use that handle for w few other accounts and didn’t want to be too traceable so I’ve changed my handle on here! Hope everyone is keeping safe and well x

I get the argument of your baby is more important than work... but if I can’t afford to put food on the table for my existing dd because I choose not to go to work, that’s pretty shit too! Feeling all kinds of panicky, angry and upset now. Really hoping the government will offer some financial help to everyone struggling because of this, but not holding my breath!

It makes me so sad reading all of your posts about fighting to stay home or worrying about pay if you choose to. This whole situation is so surreal. I hope everyone here is able to do what they need to do to stay safe and as stress free as possible.

On a positive note, what are everyone’s favourite things so far about being pregnant? What do you enjoy most about pregnancy? An obvious one, but for me feeling baby move is the best thing I’ve ever experienced. But, I’m also really enjoying my strong nails and my hair not needing washing anywhere near as often! Thank you hormones!

Checking in on the new thread. Having a fairly quiet day - off work anyway for St Patrick's Day in NI. We went to the beach in the rain - quite a few people there but all very spread out!
I'll be going in to work tomorrow to get set up to work from home. Will need to reduce my hours a bit as my mum will no longer be able to look after DS. The grandparents will take it so hard not seeing him, will have to do regular video calls with them.

@UKtoSK good idea! My favourite things about being pregnant so far are feeling the baby move, especially now he/she responds to my pokes more. My strong nails and shinier hair. Buying baby stuff is also fun as I've been broody for years. Feeling important is a big one for me, I've never really felt that good about myself but since being pregnant I feel important and clever :)

My favourite things about being pregnant are my bump and feeling generally good about myself for once Smile

@Magpiefeather yes definitely the boobs too! Although I'm finding it hard to find bras that don't cost a fortune! I don't want to spend lots on them as I won't be wearing this size for a long time, mine don't seem to stop growing. I'm between a 32&34 back size but a FF cup size.

Feeling guilty that I'm self-isolating and colleagues are having to help with my classes, but then my friend phoned and said that the woman whose baby was tested positive with coronavirus was on life support. Anyone else heard this? Made me feel less guilty and more wanting to stay at home. HR said they aren't going to start my maternity early as I'm working from home, although that's just involving sending resources and responding to staff and student emails.

My bloody phone screen has picked today to stop working so I can't message or phone my friends. Not sure how I'm going to get it fixed. Feeling really cut off now.

Just had a stressful midwife appointment. Baby's heartrate was too high at first but my own was racing due to anxiety and also because I forgot my urine sample so had to leg it back home to get it. Then my urine had protein and something else in it so I had to go and do another one and make sure it's mid stream. It had improved on the 2nd dip but I need to look out for signs of a urine infection. Baby's HR eventually came back down once I'd calmed down. MW said it was probably just because my own HR was up but the whole thing really didn't help my anxiety. Oh and I had a student measure my bump at spot on 28 weeks but MW measured me a bit smaller at 27. I know these things are clearly subjective and a bit meaningless but after the other things that happened it just made me feel worse. Feel so emotional.

Just to add, friend who heard about life support is a doctor. She's on maternity now but husband is a consultant. Can't find any evidence of it online though?

@APD1981 take a deep breath I am sure babies HR was just up because you were anxious like you say
I had protein in my wee at my app a fortnight ago terrified it's the start of preeclampsia

I always do my sample from the start of my wee tho isit meant to be mid wee ?

Report
APD1981 · 17/03/2020 15:44

@mrssunshinexxx yes she said mid stream is better as less likely to have contamination from vaginal discharge.
