Awww that’s a lovely pic @uktosk

My little one is very low too. At my midwife appointment she could feel that she’s head down so I am also feeling most of her movements in my cervix/bladder! It seems she loves to give me a jab in the bladder when it’s very full 😂

Gigitree · 28/03/2020 14:00

P.s glad your GTT came back normal @UKtoSK

Rinoa · 28/03/2020 16:10

@newbyxx thanks for that feedback. DH also thinks it's normal based on what he read. Plus there's no blood.

@UKtoSK wow that looks amazing! She's so adorable!

chocolate26 · 28/03/2020 16:43

@UKtoSK glad your test results came back clear and that photo is adorable! She is very cute. I was supposed to have my 4D scan today but it got cancelled, I'm so sad about it, I would of loved to see his/her face in 4D.

Has anyone got there hospital bags yet? If so what size are they? I need to buy one but I'm not sure what size I need.

Gigitree · 28/03/2020 16:48

@chocolate26 our 4D scan was supposed to be next week and we had to cancel too 🙁

I’m using our carry on size wheels suitcase as my hospital bag, just thought it would be easier to have something we can wheel. Especially if these strict measures are still in place, who knows I could be waddling into L&D wheeling my suitcase myself 😂

chocolate26 · 28/03/2020 16:51

@Gigitree that made me giggle! Very true though, I might invest in a small carry on suite case in case I have to do the same and wheel it in myself! It will be easier than waddling along with a heavy bag 😃

Smiffette · 28/03/2020 16:55

I was going to try with a carry on size bag but may take an extra backpack in with some bits of needed!
I'm just conscious a towel and dressing gown may take up a bit of room.

Gigitree · 28/03/2020 16:57

@chocolate26 glad I could make you laugh! If I don’t joke about it i’ll cry!

chocolate26 · 28/03/2020 17:20

@Gigitree I've had a few tears about the situation but you definitely have to have a giggle too sometimes!

@Smiffette a towel? Do hospitals not supply them then? I forgot about my dressing gown! I am very attached to mine so I will definitely be taking it 😊

Smiffette · 28/03/2020 17:23

@chocolate26 I am not sure!? I read on one of the many lists to take your own dressing gown and towel and toiletries so was planning on packing those.

mrssunshinexxx · 28/03/2020 17:23

@chocolate26 you get one I think and they are quite small. I'm taking my own from home but not a dressing gown it will be boiling in hospitals at the best of times especially in June x

Gigitree · 28/03/2020 17:46

@mrssunshinexxx I’ve got a light jersey robe from Debenhams to wear just in case I want something that’s more like a dressing gown, but I agree I don’t think we’ll need the thick/warm kind in June! They do keep hospitals so warm!

MsMiaWallace · 29/03/2020 10:09

Sorry if this has been asked but are grandparents allowed to babysit younger siblings when baby is en route?

chocolate26 · 29/03/2020 10:24

I have another question! I'm planning on breast feeding but I want to express aswell so my DH can feed him/her too. How should I go about this? Do I just express straight away and feed by breast and bottle? Or get him/her use to breast first and then introduce bottle after a couple of weeks? Or is this just a bad idea in general? I will ask my midwife too but I'm just curious.

Magpiefeather · 29/03/2020 10:41

@chocolate26 i think the recommendation is to wait 6 weeks for your breast milk supply to regulate and for baby to establish feeding. Then can start pumping and introducing bottles.

Last time round my breastfeeding journey went tits up if you’ll pardon the pun, for lots of reasons! But basically we were combi feeding and baby just started preferring the bottle, then completely refusing me. So I’d say don’t start too early with bottle.

NakeliP · 29/03/2020 13:09

Been driving myself nuts for about two hours and I know it's trivial but I can't find an answer: when they say you're 'due' at 40 weeks, would this be at the beginning or end of 40 weeks? So would I be 39+7 or 40+7? I'm currently 29+4 and wondering if that means I'm 29 weeks or 28 weeks going by NHS weeks? I have a midwife appt on Wednesday when I'll be 29+7 so that's 28 weeks completed, and actually 29 weeks completed the day after, so is my appointment almost a week late and does it matter? I'm literally going round in circles. It probably doesn't matter much, unless you're 'late' and thinking about induction, then I guess it's good to know if you're 40 or 41 weeks and if that's beginning of week or completed.

Anyone who's had kids before know how NHS actually count weeks?! Confused Many thanks!!

Ginfilledcats · 29/03/2020 13:12

Think of it like this, day 0 you got pregnant. For the first 6 days you were one week 0, day 1-6.
Then week 1, days 1-6 and so forth.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/03/2020 14:04

@chocolate26 apparently you should solely breast feed for the first 10 days and that will establish your supply then introduce minimal bottle feeding if you are hoping to continue BF long term
Our 'plan' is for me to EBF for first 10 days or longer if I think it's not established and then my husband will either give her one bottle of formula after her bath time feed so I can go to bed early or a bottle of expressed milk depending how much I get off I'm just going to use a hakkaa not a pump x

NakeliP · 29/03/2020 14:04

@Ginfilledcats many thanks. I get that bit, but keep falling over when I try to think what NHS classes as weeks. I'm still confused as you whether you're classed as e.g. 40 weeks once you reach 40 weeks (i.e. the day after you're currently 39+7) or once you've completed 40 weeks (i.e. when you're 40+6). Really sorry - it's not baby brain I'm just a bit thick at logic! Blush

Magpiefeather · 29/03/2020 14:10

@NakeliP it’s when you hit 40 weeks. So say on the Saturday you are 39+6 then the Sunday you are 40 weeks and no days, that’s your due date. For instance when I had my dd she was a week and a day after due date and the midwives wrote it down in my notes as T+8 (term + 8) or sometimes as 41+1. Hope that helps!

Also I was 27+5 at my 28 week appointment, it doesn’t really matter being a bit either side of the actual date. I asked the midwife ages ago. With mine she only does every two weeks at my surgery so I thought it’s better to be a few days shy of 28 weeks than almost two weeks over for her to do her checks etc.

MissisBee · 29/03/2020 14:20

If you've a baby who is breastfeeding well, then they advise waiting to 6 weeks before starting bottles. Some struggle to latch/gain weight and top ups are recommended, so you might need to start earlier in that case. DS refused bottles from the beginning and all along, although, because he was premature, I was expressing for his tube feeds for the first few days, until he got the hang of latching

NakeliP · 29/03/2020 14:27

@Magpiefeather thanks so much that's a lot clearer. I thought as much but I've looked at other threads with people's own interpretations going both ways so was unsure. Because by the end of that week you'd basically be 41 weeks. Thanks again for clarifying!

Pegase · 29/03/2020 16:58

@Magpiefeather my bf went badly too last time. DD made me so ridiculously sore I couldn't bear it

We combi fed with me expressing and bottle feeding breast milk for 3 months and then switched to formula in end.

Will be trying again this time though - getting nipple shields in advance just in case and will pump again if needed

BabyBird20 · 29/03/2020 18:29

Hi all, I was just wondering at what point I should worry about reduced movements? I've only felt little bean once earlier today and nothing since which is unusual as normally hes had a couple of dance parties by now. I don't want to freak out or waste any midwives time but also don't want to leave it too long! Any advice? Xx

peetieswie · 29/03/2020 18:55

@babybird20 I'm not sure what the official guidance is but if it makes you feel better mine was quiet for a whole day and only felt a tiny jab once or twice but then the next day was kicking almost constantly
