Ok folks here is the new thread. I have put it into ante natal again for now, we can always start a new one in the post natal forum once we have all popped.

:D Could have used that for a thread title.... Once you pop you just can't stop

Morning all - hope everyone is ok. Have not had a chance to read the posts, sorry! But have a quick question that i have also posted on the parenting thread...i know a lot of you have already got LO's, so any advice in this area is most welcome. The question is below.

Hi everyone - my LO is 9 days old (PFB) and before he arrived i was pretty sure i was going to follow the guideline of having his cot with us for 6 months. now that he is here, i am already wanting to move him into his nursery (which is right across from our bedroom so very close). he makes so many noises when asleep that it is stopping me from getting a good quality of sleep betweeen feeds.

what are all your opinions? what did you do? is the rooming in really that important?

any opinions/ advice will be gratefully received. hope all other new mums are coping ok. and hope the rest of you pop soon, it is weird to think that I should just be over 38 weeks pregnant!

dal21 · 16/09/2007 08:58

Just had a quick scan - congrats to all the new mums and welcome to the arrivals.

Those who havent popped, things to enjoy about still being pregnant!

  • being able to read the papers in peace
  • getting to eat breakfast/ lunch/ dinner on time and without it getting cold (not that you mind if it does get cold )
  • watching a tv programme/ dvd without interruption and without sleep overpowering you.

does that help?

ccpink · 16/09/2007 09:52

dal - doesn't really help. But thanks for trying. I'm REALLY tired and haven't even got baby yet. Kinki - as for your idea -he's got zero chance now so will be no different
sorry for shortness -knackered!!!

EdieMcredie · 16/09/2007 10:10

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on for ages! Well I had my baby Millie on the 14th at 07.38hrs in the morning. Labour lasted 30 hrs in the end and I opted for an epidural just because I couldn't face anymore long contractions rolling into eachother and plus they didn't seem to be doing a very good job at dilating me!

In the end both mine and dp's mothers were there seeing their first grand daughter being born. When it finally happened it was just us and a lovely midwife who had been with us practically the whole way through, in a lovely cosy little dimly lit room. It was lovely. I really enjoyed pushing her out and luckily could not feel the pain because of the epi.

She is doing well although having a few teethcing problems with breastfeeding, think she gets very warn out with having to suck but is able to do a bit more each time bless her.

She is gorgeous and we can't stop staring at her and kissing her!!

All those who are waiting for labour and if it's your first: You are very lucky to be facing such an amazing experience. I would do it all again tomorrow in an instance!

Love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ScottishMummy · 16/09/2007 10:12

congratulations and best wishes to u and wee millie - aahhhhhh im all mushy reading your post

MrsFish · 16/09/2007 10:30

Congratulations Edie and Millie

Dal - I kept ds in our room in his moses basket for 3 weeks and then couldn't stand it anymore. I put him in his nursery then, in the bedroom next door, in fact apart from the wall dividing us he was barely 8-10ft away, I instantly slept much better, but could still hear him too You have to do what is best for the both of you and dh

MrsBumblebee · 16/09/2007 10:30

Big congratulations to the new arrivals!! Edie, I just KNEW you were off having your baby. Glad the epidural did good stuff for you, and that Millie's beginning to get there on the breastfeeding.

Tink, congrats to you and your greedy baby . Love the names as well - Will Alexander is actually one of our name combinations too , though I think it might get pushed into second place by another. Love it, though!

Chatty, sounds like things are moving - yay!!

Dal, as a not-yet-mum I don't have any advice to offer, but thought I'd say that all three of my NCT class who have had their babies are saying exactly the same thing - they're all wondering how long they're going to last with the rooming in because of the noise. One's decided to try putting LO in the nursery at the last night feed, so at least she and DH get a couple of hours of decent sleep before they have to get up. So you're not alone!

MrsF, glad you had a nice day yesterday. Today looks like the last of the nice weather, so I'm wondering what to do to appreciate it - maybe a nice walk.

No word from Sophus for a little while - Sophus, have you abandoned the rest of us in the overdue club and sneaked off to have your LO ?

Well, I'm still here this morning (as you'll have gathered). Tried a bit of BDing this morning to see if it gets things moving - no sign yet, but at least a nice waste of time if nothing happens .

Hi to everyone else!

kinki · 16/09/2007 10:53

Dal, I'm lucky in that all my dses are quiet sleepers. Ds1 slept with us for several months, and now it looks like ds3 will too. But ds2 was in his cot in his own room from the day I left hospital. The reason for this was that I didn't want ds1 feeling 'left out' or our room what with me, dh and ds2 being in there and him not, he was 5 at the time. We couldn't hear him that well from his room so got a monitor and used that. The only difficult bit was having to get up and get him for feeds. (But here the deal is this: if I bf, dh gets up to deliver the babe, does waste disposal operations after said feed and dispatch back to cot at the end. So getting up to get him was never a problem for me).

Congratulations to Tink and Will Alexander. Also to Edie and Millie. Well done to you all! Looking forward to hearing more about your lovely babies.

I've just realised, we seem to be having an evenish spread of girls and boys. It wasn't so long ago that we thought that we would be predominantly girls. It must be that most of the surprises were boys after all.

kinki · 16/09/2007 10:57

MrsB, at bding! Well I'm not, but dh would be, and if he was getting it he'd be a bit happier which would make my life a bit easier!

dal21 · 16/09/2007 11:30

thanks for your messages. glad to know i am not alone with this dilemna. i will do a little more research as am trying to understand why they recommend the rooming in for 6 months. if it wasnt a guideline that is put about so much, i wouldnt have any hesitation. but i think i also have to get my sleep!

MrsBumblebee · 16/09/2007 11:32

Yes, well, Kinki, I think DH and I both probably realise that it may be the last time for a while . Though to be honest, I'm probably more bothered about that than him. Let's just say I've always been the more driven in that particular area . Doubt I'll still feel that way in a week's time, though!

toadstool · 16/09/2007 11:52

Congrats to Twit and Edie!

Dal, I had DD in for 6 months and the hedgehog noises did calm down pretty early. However, pretty much all the mothers I knew at the time moved their LO into the nursery as quickly as possible, and kept monitors on but turned low. None turned out odd, so it probably isn't a major issue unless you're as big a worrier as me - I'd check on DD several times a night wherever she was, so I found rooming in less tiring from that point of view!

aprilmeadow · 16/09/2007 14:13

hi all, just to let you know that Chattyhan had her baby this morning. Mummy and baby are doing well. On her due date as well

MrsFish · 16/09/2007 14:26

Congrats Chattyhan

OP posts:
kyala · 16/09/2007 15:24

Yup, I'm still here guys

ccpink: You know, that's exactly what I did

canadianmum: Yup, not kidding! Will be very wary of exactly when they put the next one in, I don't want them having to take it out and then put it in again a couple of hours/days later! If they've got to put it in I want it to stay in until I give birth!!

Congratulations Tinkjon, Chattyhan and Ediemcredie good for you all, am V V at you all!!

(Was going to reply to Chatty's post about the show as follows: Don't bloody count on it, mine was last Tuesday (not that it can't happen in the next 2 days but I'm not expecting it at all now LOL)! ) Typical, I finally try and catch up with these posts and you're all way ahead of me LOL

Right, I'm off again, going to have a nap or bake some bread or something (anything!!)
Take care ladies, hope I don't have to log on again any time soon as I'll be busy having a baby (yeah right, I'm going to be pregnant forever!!!)

Congratulations Tinkjon, Edie and Chattyhan - although a big to those giving birth near their due dates.

Edie - the first couple of weeks of breastfeeding can be tough, try to stick it out because it then usually gets very easy for both of you. I can remember my first couple of weeks thinking "how the hell do people do this for so long" and then it all just came together and we were all fabulous at it. good luck!

dal - the rooming in advice is because being in the same room as (non-smoking) parents can help reduce the risk of cot death for some reason. This only applies for the first 6months. I would imagine that the increased risk is tiny and that if you are getting exhausted by a noisy baby it is far better for all of you to move him to his nursery and get some decent sleep. Our boys slept in their own nursery from about 5 weeks as we just didn't have space for both in our bedroom and they were far too noisy. I plan to keep this baby in our room as long as possible, but might not be able to if he/she is terribly noisy like yours! I know it is a tough decision, just the first of many I am afraid! Wait until you get to MMR.........and schools......and when to give them peanut butter...... .

canadianmum · 16/09/2007 16:04

Oh, just read somewhere that in Sweden they are thinking of changing average length of gestation from 280 days to 283, that means my due date is now Tuesday instead of yesterday . Must find some more research if baby has not arrived on Tuesday .

emj23 · 16/09/2007 16:16

I didn't read the thread for one day and four more babies have arrived!

Congratulations to MrsMar, Norfolkbumpkin, EdieMcredie and Chattyhan and welcome to all your lovely new babies!

hannahsaunt · 16/09/2007 20:48

Hi

Popping in briefly to say that last Wednesday (12 Sept) I managed to go to the hairdresser, go to the library and have a baby, boy #3 - Jacob Alexander, 8lb 5oz. All very quick - 2.5hrs from calling dh to say that I thought I may be having contractions to him being with us; 2nd stage of 3 minutes - hooray!

Good luck to all those with it to come

Rin23 · 16/09/2007 20:52

Congratulations to Norfolkbumpkin, EdieMcredie and Chattyhan on your new arrivals!

Edie - great to read such a positive post about first time birth - thankyou!

I am veering between very much enjoying time at the moment and a little bit at those of you who have their lovely babas. Though it is great to be able to go out at whim/ have afternoon snooze/ dinner with DH/ have sex, etc!

Hope everyone with their babies are enjoying it and very well.
