Pregnant with second (or third/fourth/etc) baby, due in/around September 2020

NameChange30 · 01/02/2020 14:32

Hi! Is there anyone out there who already has at least one child and expecting another baby in or around September 2020?

I would love to chat to other pregnant mums who have "been there, done that" at least once before...

I am less excited this time, since I know what I'm letting myself in for 🙈 But also very much looking forward to giving my son a sibling. He will be 3.5 when baby is born.

@welshmercury wow! That's amazing! Congratulations! You could always get another early private scan in between to keep you going? X

Do you have kids already? X

NameChange30 · 04/02/2020 20:18

Yep 24 days, feels like forever 😭
Brilliant that you can get the NIPT on the NHS where you are 👍 It would be great if it was provided on the NHS for everyone with a high risk result throughout the UK.
I'm 34 so don't need to worry about my age affecting it quite so much.
Ah it will be lovely to tell your kids at the weekend, you must be so looking forward to it Smile
Because of DS's age I think we could get away without telling him for a while... I will probably wait until I get my screening test results.

welshmercury
Hi Smile Wow, what a rollercoaster you'd had. Tentative congratulations and best of luck to you 🤞

Hope everyone else is doing ok. I'm sooo tired 😴

Just checking in.
42 and 3rd DC, EDD August 30th. Other DC are 6 and 9..
Just had a scan and all fine bit anxiously awaiting harmony result, should know in a week. Had to shell out the 400 as only becomes available here in May 😵.
I can't get too excited until then so looking for a hand hold ..

Pregnancy third time round at my ripe old age is exhausting , grumpy, hungry, nauseated , tired. Thank the lawd my kids are so helpful as DH is away alot! I envy the mum of the 12 and 17 year old!

I'll read they all your stories properly and find something more useful to say.

I do envy these first time mums contemplating their navel and planning the PFB. ! Mines is just going to have to fit in to the madhouse 🤔

Samk79 · 04/02/2020 22:15

@Realladymarmalade congratulations, I am lucky my two are older at 12 and 17 so are self sufficient. Will be a shock to go back to the baby stage again though!
I started a secondment at work last week working more hours and really struggling at the min with feeling rubbish. Hoping to feel better soon!
Hope everyone is doing okay xx

welshmercury · 04/02/2020 23:02

Thanks everyone. I have one hormonal y6 DS but we are not telling him yet. I’m just trying to relax as last time I had no pregnancy symptoms and didn’t know til 10 weeks pregnant so finding out so early has been so hard as I might not have known about it at all. But does mean that I’m taking folic acid early this time as started late last time but DS seems alright 😆

This baby is much wanted as hubby always said no to second and we’d still be waiting for our first if not for pill failure with DS. Withdrawal method been successful for him for many years. I know this is my only chance which makes it even more precious as no way would he agree to try.

Big bummer is I have holiday booked to Malaysia in August to see my dad who lives in Asia and need to hopefully get my money back for my sister and I.

ChipsAreLife · 05/02/2020 13:04

Hello, sorry been feeling absolutely dreadful so not posted much! My sickness isn't easing and I have no energy. Just hoping it goes soon.

Just seen the midwife and she moved my dates forward so I'm 9 weeks today 🥳 should get my scan date next week and then hopefully see that all is going well.

Welcome to the new members! Hope you're all feeling well?

When will everyone tell their other kids? I'm dying too at 12 weeks but my three year old will ask constantly for the next 28 weeks when is it coming?!

NameChange30 · 06/02/2020 19:38

Evening all, how is everyone?

I'm 9+1 today. Absolutely exhausted after a busy few days and I was very grumpy at work today Blush

Realladymarmalade
Hello and congrats! Fingers crossed for your harmony result 🤞
"Pregnancy third time round at my ripe old age is exhausting , grumpy, hungry, nauseated , tired."
So much like pregnancy at any stage then Grin Seriously though do you feel it's been harder each time? I hated my first pregnancy but at least I didn't also have to look after a spirited 2 year old, so it's definitely harder this time.

Samk99
How are you, feeling any better? I'm finding it tough at work so I can imagine a secondment would be a challenge. Is it good to be doing something interesting to distract you though??

welsh
Sorry you'll have to cancel your holiday.

ChipsAreLife
Sorry you've been feeling rubbish. Hope the sickness eases for you soon.
I think we are due date buddies now! 9th September. Might change at the scan of course.
I have the same dilemma as you about telling DS! Really want to tell him after my 12 week scan but not sure I can face 28 weeks of him going on about it Grin

I am most looking forward to telling work tbh, it will be a huge relief not to have to keep it a secret any more. I hate secrets and wish I could explain to people why I'm so tired and grumpy Sad

I'm pregnant with my 2nd my ds will be 4 when baby is born and just started school. X

Samk79 · 07/02/2020 19:53

@NameChange30 thank you for asking, to be honest I'm finding it hard. There is a lot to take in and I'm working more hours. I'm also not sure if a permanent post will come out of it and if so whether I will be able to go for it or not. Just feels like it's the wrong time 😞it doesn't help that I feel so rubbish at the min, I'm ready to go to sleep as soon as I get home!

Zm2019 · 07/02/2020 20:02

Hi, do you mind if I join.
I am a bit earlier than most of you, we are due 24th August. I havent really had any symptoms apart from being so tired. I am currently 11+4 and have my official dating scan on the 12th. I had a scan when I was 9w and everything was ok. I am feeling really nervous about this scan as today I have suddenly started getting lower back cramps and dull period pains. Had a call from the midwife who said it is normal to cramp in early pregnancy unless there is bleeding not to worry too much. Fingers crossed all will be ok.
I am 34 and we have a daughter who is nearly 7. We told her very early on(xmas day) as sometimes when shes tired she can get very handsy. She is very excited and keeps asking if it's a boy or a girl.

NameChange30 · 09/02/2020 22:50

Evening all, hope everyone's managed some rest this weekend!

Hello and welcome Emily and zm Smile

Sam
Sorry you're finding the secondment hard - the exhaustion is a killer isn't it. Hang on in there!

Zm
Sorry about the cramping, has it eased at all? Best of luck for your scan on Wednesday, not long now!

@Bonsaigem
Did you tell your DCs yesterday?! Hope you enjoyed sharing the news Smile

OP posts:
welshmercury · 10/02/2020 11:35

Hi. Feeling a lot calmer now. I’m 8 weeks and I could swear I feel baby moving when I’m lying really still and flat. Everything I’ve read says not this early.

I return to work on Wednesday as I was signed off for two weeks. No idea how I’m going to get through the day without my afternoon snooze!

Hope everyone is doing ok

MamaB80 · 10/02/2020 13:07

Hope everyone is doing well on this wild and windy Monday. Been a while since I posted, my little one (aged 3) has been keeping me busy and work started on our loft conversion (hopefully finishing in good time ahead of baby’s arrival!).

@namechange30 Great that you have a date for your scan! Mine is on 27th, already had to move it once as like you I don’t want to take my son in just yet.

@welshmercury So delighted that you got to see your little ones heartbeat! Can imagine what a huge relief that must have been with the bleeding. I’ve been feeling the same about thinking I can feel baby moving! I like to think it is regardless of it being so early!

@realladymarmalade what a shame to have just missed out on saving that £400! I’ll hold your hand if you’ll hold mine – will be playing the Harmony waiting game this time next week. Have you had your results yet?
I hear you re first time mums. I long for that experience again!!

@chipsarelife I feel exactly the same as you telling our three year old. At the moment we are thinking we might take him to the 20 week scan so he knows about it from then…but even then there’ll be TWENTY more weeks of waiting and the questions!! Sorry you are still suffering, hopefully it’ll start wearing of soon. I had no symptoms last time but suffering from really horrible indigestion this time. Really sad as I love spicy food but can’t so much as think about it at the moment!

@samk79 sorry to hear about how rubbish you are feeling. I hope you get some sort of stability in your role before too long. Can you sound out HR about it? Like you I’m ready for bed as soon as I get home. Literally put my pjs on and do my teeth at 6.30pm with my son!

I had my first midwife appointment last Thursday and it was lovely! She was so knowledgeable and nice, and best of all I’ll be seeing her at every appointment. Last time there was a different midwife at every appointment bar one. Seeing the midwife really helped me feel a lot more positive!

I also took the plunge and booked the Harmony test with the FMC for next Monday (we can’t get it via NHS here) as I’m 39, turning 40 this year and feeling anxious due to 2 miscarriages. According to the dates from my viability scan I’ll be 10w 3d then. They’ve said they should have results back within 7 days so I can call and get them. Dreading that wait. Then we go back to discuss the results in detail on 2nd March and have another scan with them.

Right better go. Starving and it’s lunch time and I really ought to do some work! Hope everyone is having a good day and feeling okay x

Samk79 · 10/02/2020 17:13

@MamaB80 I need to speak to my manager about it really. I am enjoying the job but if it becomes permanent it will likely be full time whereas my usual job is part time. Need to think about the cost of childcare!

Feel so awful at the min, sick and exhausted, also getting a lot of stomach cramps. Have my booking app next week.

I had a mc at 11 weeks last year, I just can't get excited this time and keep thinking I'm mad for doing this again at my age!

Realladymarmalade · 10/02/2020 23:07

@MamaB80
I am always very impressed at posters who make a point of checking in with everyone. I don't have the concentration or jerking memory capacity right now !

I am hopefully getting my harmony result tomorrow..
Be warned though , there is a 3% chance if insufficient fetal DNA in the sample
This happened to me and after a text , during which I shat myself , telling me the clinic had news for me, and after a five minute wait for the phone call , and after she checked my name and DOB...

She told me there was insufficient DNA. I totally burst into tears with the stress of it all. Hoping tomorrows has worked and if not then we wait another week for extra samples I provided to work..fingers crossed.

On a positive note I got an extra look at the wee bean when I popped in for the bloods. Smile

I will hand hold (now I've forgotten when it is for you , will need to go check !)

Realladymarmalade · 10/02/2020 23:07

Jerking =working = case in point 🤣

MamaB80 · 11/02/2020 10:05

@Realladymarmalade I work Monday to Wednesday so get a chance to reply at my leisure with a cup of tea at my desk, hence the lengthy note checking in with people! Such a luxury compared to Thursday to Sunday when I’m “off” (cold tea, athleisure wear and no makeup!)

Am on the edge of my seat waiting for your results (so goodness only knows what I’ll be like waiting for mine!) I hope they come through today! Do you have to phone them? Hoping and willing for the results to be low risk. Everything crossed for you here! Already sick with nerves about mine so I will be a gibbering wreck if the insufficient DNA thing happens. What a pain!

Thank you for hand holding! My test is next Monday. Really looking forward to the scan then too!

@Samk79 I'm so sorry you went through a mc at 11 weeks, can imagine how hard that must have been. Really hope things settle down for you, between working longer hours and not feeling great it sounds like you are due a break soon!

ChipsAreLife · 11/02/2020 12:34

Hello!

What are harmony tests? I've not heard of them really!

I'm starting to turn a corner, sickness is going hurray and energy gently coming back! Still tired though and the girls are being extra hard work this week already.

I think we will tell them after my scan in 3.5 weeks. I've got a slight bump already 😅 (10 weeks tomorrow) they do say third one pops quicker so trying to not worry it's twins lol.

Had to move my scan back 8 days as DH is away. Felt really put it out as adding to my waiting but of course I want him there! I guess we will have lots of 12 week scans coming up now?

NameChange30 · 11/02/2020 13:02

The Harmony Test is a type of NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test), they are not usually available on the NHS and they are expensive to get privately. Hut you get a lot of accurate screening info.

OP posts:
ChipsAreLife · 11/02/2020 16:12

Thanks @NameChange30 I had a read of it and seems to be the same tests you get at 12 weeks on NHS you can just get earlier? It also says it's the most accurate private one but I couldn't see is it was more accurate than NHS?

NameChange30 · 11/02/2020 17:04

No it's different to the NHS tests.

The NHS screening tests are based on scan measurements, basic blood tests and maternal age, they combine everything to give you a risk level and if it's high they offer invasive testing (amnio or CVS) to diagnose. I am not sure what exactly they are testing in the blood but it's certainly not the same as the NIPT blood test.

NIPT is just a blood test - an advanced one. I believe they can get baby's DNA cells from the mother's blood which they then analyse to get a very accurate result about the risk level, so you could be reasonably certain without having an invasive test like an amnio or CVS.

OP posts:
ChipsAreLife · 11/02/2020 17:40

Ah ok thanks! In fairness I read it very quickly whilst waiting for my flu jab. Sounds like a great test but £400 is so much for it. I guess I'll wait till my nhs results and go from there. My DB has downs so I'm very close to it.

NameChange30 · 11/02/2020 19:13

Chips
Is there a greater chance of down's if it's in the family?
Like you I will wait for the NHS results and go from there, if high risk I would probably get the NIPT. In my first pregnancy I was low risk so didn't bother.
Glad your nausea and tiredness have eased a bit btw!

welsh
Good luck going back to work tomorrow!

MamaB
Exciting about your loft conversion! Will you have a master bedroom and en suite??
We are planning renovations, mainly a big extension. Unfortunately we haven't exactly timed it well - according to the schedule the work is due to start at the end of August 🙈 We'll have to move out I think.

SamK99
Sorry you're feeling so rubbish. Understandable that you're not excited after your MMC last time Flowers I guess you must be holding out for your 12week scan before relaxing a bit - I know i am, and can imagine it would be even harder in your situation.

Reallady
Did you get your harmony result today? Hope it was positive!

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 11/02/2020 19:17

I'm feeling crap and demoralised. I'm just so exhausted and sick of having to push on through it, whether it's work or looking after DS or doing whatever. My whole body is just screaming out for sleep and most of the time I can't. I guess I should just go to bed the minute DS is in bed but it's not much of a life is it! We've been busy at weekends with things I don't want to miss out on which doesn't help.

Today I really didn't want to get out of bed but forced myself, regretted not calling in sick to work because it was a crap boring day and it was a rare day that I wouldn't have been particularly missed.

I have some annual leave booked in March but I'm thinking about asking if I can bring it forward, I couldn't take next week as it's half term (colleagues already off) but thinking about the last week of Feb. Coincidentally that's also the week of my 12 week scan so if I could move it to a work day, when I'm on annual leave, DS would be in nursery so no childcare issues.

OP posts:
ChipsAreLife · 11/02/2020 19:53

I hear you @NameChange30 all I want is a day in bed but I run my own company and my partner is on holiday for most of Feb so I have to work to manage the team. Luckily they all work remotely and you'll often find me in bed on my laptop but I'm craving a day off!!!!

So no apparently not, it was just a genetic 'accident' my mum was 26 and first baby. It was the 70s and the tests just weren't as sophisticated so she had no idea till a few days after he was born. He was only supposed to live for a few weeks. He's in his mid 40s now and is a legend!
