Just thought I'd get the shiny new thread up and running. Well done Twit on the thread name

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FlossALump · 30/08/2007 15:15

Good luck ECATLM - post again before you go off to hospital - becuase you haven't got a lot else to think of have you?!

Sitting here with my RLT, just have a large slice of pinneapple and a chocolate eclair. Who's heard that the latter can bring on labour?

Sorry you aren;t feeling so good MrsF. Hope the comfort food helps. I'm begrudging DP going to the cinema tonight let along away completely for 10 days. Poor you.

EmLouT · 30/08/2007 15:16

Hi Mrs Fish - sorry you are having a bad day - I know how unsettling it can be when DH goes away. Hang in there though - these days do pass eventually!

Dal - thanks for saying you will put me on the contact list. I will email you now.

Am going to try and have a rest now. Bye all.

Thanks Fio, the thing that is worrying me is that it seems I won't get the chance of a scan till I am 38 weeks, if it is breech then, its all going to be a bit of a rush in sorting things out and making decisions etc. What I am going to do is NOT worry till after the weekend, will see if lo is in the same position I can feel now after the weekend, if he is will ring mw see if she can see me again next thursday to have another prod and then try again getting me another scan then

Chattyhan · 30/08/2007 15:52

I also had a maybe breech false alarm! Turns out midwife got it wrong!

Mrsfish hope things improve for you this evening and DS is on his best behavior!

Re: Breech issues a friend of mine had a emergency c-section 3 weeks ago. They tried to turn lo but it was unsuccessful - the consultant wanted to continue but friend found it painful and told them to stop so she was booked for c-section at 38+5. Her waters went at 37+5 and she had emergency c-section but as she wasn't contracting and waters went in night she was just first in the morning! She said the experience was happier and calmer than nightmare forceps delivery last time and they are recovering well. She's a bit sore but is coping fine with DS and DD despite DP not being able to take paternity because it all happened early and he was tied up at work! She said compared to vaginal birth she's had much less bleeding as they clean out as part of section! And the scar is much less uncomfortable than her 'bits' and stiches were.

Just wanted to give you a happy RL story xx

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 16:03

Thanks Chatty.

Just spoke to my SiL she has had two cs now. The first one was an emergency after 28 hours labour, they had to pull my neice back out of the birth canal as she had got stuck. The second one was planned and she said she recovered a lot quicker as it was all far calmer and she wasn't completely exhausted to start with. I am not scared about the prospect of a cs tbh, I am more scared if I have to have a full episiotomy and forceps delivery again

kyala · 30/08/2007 16:04

Afternoon all,
Hope you're all enjoying some nice weather today? I am enjoying the coolness we've suddenly got here, it's lovely!
Managed to get some sleep last night, in our bed no less! DH's snoring wasn't too bad although he was strangely close to me at one point, to the point where I had to wake him so that I could roll over, I was literally on the edge of the bed
Have had a bit of an up and down day today, went into town to pick something up (that wasn't there, Grr!) and then came home again, that's been it so far! I put the breadmaker on for jam just before I left, so have put that into jars and am waiting to see if it sets now (also, it smelt a little burnt, tastes ok though!)

And now on with the posts:

Twitmonster: Aw thanks! I'm glad you like my hair, I was quite fond of that one too, at the moment I haven't got any in but am going to put some nice red fluffy stuff in in a day or 2 (it sounds a bit janky but it's not easy putting it into freshly clean hair so I have to leave it for a day or 2 as otherwise it just slides out again!)
I love my DD, she is totally gorgeous, which makes it very hard to punish her when she's naughty (as she also looks so distraught when she's upset too )

ECATLM: Ooh contractions eh?! Good luck! Good plan to ignore them until they get worse, that's basically what I did the first time round, despite it taking me over half an hour to eat my breakfast LOL (And I hate soggy cereal!) Let us know how it goes
Ooh, yup definitely want the book, thanks ;)

Fiofio: Glad to hear your hospital is a nice one, can't believe you were told it wasn't LOL Not exactly what you needed to hear eh?!

Floss: LOL @ tidying up before going in Even got DD to go in without a nappy (let's face it the older kids are peeing in the pool all the time and DD wasn't going to be doing any, ahem, solids without telling me, or at least taking half an hour to strain one out )
I really loved going, it's just a shame we can't go more often, and now with another LO on the way it's going to be even harder (DH wont go anywhere near water and all my friends atm have lo's of their own )

Sophus: Hope you managed to have a better day today, nice and relaxed?

Willjo: Do you know you can have the Vit K given orally rather than injected? I had it done with DD and am going to do the same this time round too, they just worry that if baby spits it out that they're not getting enough dosage (tish tosh, DD loved hers LOL), the MW will do the first lot for you and then run through how you do the other 2 doses yourself. Also, just so you know, I decided to have the GBS test this time (wasn't told about it, found out watching This Morning) and have had a positive result so am having to go into hospital, broke my heart as I really wanted the choice again (had home birth with DD) so am really gutted but very glad that I know what has to be done (even if it means being made into a blooming pincushion in a blooming hospital )

HIWBB: Bummer on the big LO! Oh well, there's my optimistic outlook gone out the window then!

Mmoomar: What timing your fridge freezer has! Hope our's doesn't do that, it has a knack for knowing when we need it too

MrsFish: Pants! That's ball's news to have, especially at this stage But just think if LO moved right round at this stage it might turn itself back again before your next MW appointment? (That's my optimism again isn't it?! )
My DD's doing the same as your DS, all playing up and then crocodile tears when being told off, even if it's just a little warning! Blooming kids, why are we doing it again?! LOL That's right, cos it's so much fun!!

Good luck to all who's LO's are breech, will have to do a turning dance in the garden (which reminds me did anyone get a look at THAT moon last night?! It was ma-huuuuu-sive!! I would've been dancing nekkid under it if I weren't so tired )
Right, I'm off to make some more banana bread, and more jam while I'm eating that! I've become a proper gorge monster lately, must cut down. . . . after this batch
Have a good day all, and good luck ECATLM, just ride them out hun
xxx

trinity1 · 30/08/2007 16:33

Hello all. 39 + 4 today and am pooped! My dear old ma has taken 14 mth old DD out to give me a chance to lie down but am so restless I can't get comfy! Bag packed, everything ready but don't think anything's going to happen for a bit yet (DD was 8 days over)

Am having trouble with DP's snoring too (when he's home) Thinking of booting him onto the sofa! He started his new job in June and so doesn't qualify for any paternity leave so we're really upset about that and as he flies for a living am really anxious everytime he goes to work in case littleun decides to make her appearance. Thank god for my mum and his parents who have been so amazing. Hope everyone is feeling ok and resting up. xxx

MMooMar · 30/08/2007 17:05

Afternoon guys,

Just had a nice big glass of WARM lemonade( thanks to the bloody fridge) wheres winter when you need it,could have kept the stuff outside lol!

Got back form the MW about an hour ago,got DS off for a nap and really should be doing housework but thought I would see what was happening with you lot.

I see EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute has not posted since this morning.....could be another bubba on its way then.

Mrsfish,LO could still move ,still time,Ill keep my fingers crossed for you. Got to say I dont like thinking about the cs route ,try to push that thought to the furthest corner of my mind, sometimes it pops up and i think...NOOOOOOOOOO!I remember trying to protest about it as they rushed me off to theatre last time ,Im sure thats why they gave it a whirl with the forceps.

MW says LO has swapped sides now and is on the right hand side,I thought it had though. When I had my scan at 36 weeks it was left hand side.Told me its best to be on the left and to sleep on my left hand side, which I try and do anyway(TRY AND SLEEP TOO )to get it to move back, but wasnt someone on here told it was best for LO to be on the right? Also head not engaged,I really expected her to say it would be today as everything feels like its all hanging down and sometimes think I must look like John Wayne when I walk...(HA HA).Anyway got to go AGAIN (groan) next week,You never know though something may have happended by then, think I will try and wear DP out every night from Friday .

Thanks for all the well wishes for my mum guys too, love you all.

Speak to you soon,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

kelmcd · 30/08/2007 17:29

Hiya everyone!
MMoomar - i am in the same boat as you, my LO still hasn't engaged yet either. How many weeks are you? His back is on the left however tho if i lie on right he ususally flops over. It is generally best to have back on left (less rotation needed to come out) but in my experience it doesnt really amke much diff.

dal21 · 30/08/2007 17:37

Hello everyone

Mrs F, have posted re. the breech stuff on the breech thread but think your attitide is spot on. Need to put this breech malarkey out of my mind til next week and next scan - and then think about it based on what my obs says. Sorry your DH is away also, cant help!

fLOSS - I distinctly remember reading that chocolate eclairs can help bring on labour . eat more!

ECATLM - you havent posted for a while, am sending positive birthing vibes your way!!

Chatty - thanks for your RL story! Is much needed right now!

MMooMar - LOL at you exhausting DH from friday onwards!

Hello to everyone else. I have had a productive morning of defrosting freezer followed by mammoth cooking sesh! Who said maternity leave involved sitting around doing nothing? Damn this nesting instinct!

MrsBumblebee · 30/08/2007 17:53

Hello everyone.

MMooMar, mine's been on the right hand side for ages, and I've been told the left is better, so I've been lying on my left a lot. Had MW check today, and he's now pretty much dead centre, so maybe it's working.

MrsF, sorry to hear LO is now breech - but hopefully still time to turn back .

ECATLM - good luck!!! If it's any help (if you're even still there!), I've been told to go to hospital once contractions are every 5 mins and lasting about a min - though NCT woman said wait until you're getting three in every 10 mins. Whether I'll be able to hold my nerve when the time comes, though, I don't know!

Whoever was asking about changing mats, we rather over-indulged in a very nice (and, I fear, hopelessly impractical) one from Mamas and Papas . Wasn't planning to, but we'd already bought their changing table, and then couldn't find a cheap mat that fitted - they were all too big . Anyway, it's got a really cute fabric cover with integral towel and pillow. My sister gives it a week at most until I get fed up with washing the cover and just using the bare plastic bit underneath .

Not much other news from me. LO was no more engaged today than he was a week and a half ago, though MW told me that doesn't really mean anything - could still come any time. I'm starting to get a bit bored, now, and am dreading DH going back to work on Monday, leaving me all on my lonesome during the day. It's been lovely having this last summer together as a couple .

Right, off for a cup of RLT...

hayley2u · 30/08/2007 18:25

hi everyone.
hope al is ok. iv not looked back at any messagesyet. just spent last wek in hospital, had a nasty fall down stairs been on a drip which took them 4 attempts, i tell you that hurt more than having a baby, i have huge bruises all over me. but all better now, and baby is fine.
had a scan my baby is measuring 40 weeks now and i am only 37 weeks so she gonna be a whoppa.
my c section is all booked in for 2 weeks time, 12 th september, getting nervous now, and need to get everything.

Norfolkbumpkin · 30/08/2007 18:32

Had a bit of a nervy day today....... Woke up at 4.30am this morning for one of my toilet trips and my hands were like fat sausages. I managed to get my wedding ring off as it felt very tight, but then went back to bed and nodded off again. Then woke up at 7.15am with a head like a vice and a nose bleed. Instantly panicked and woke dh who phoned midwife. She told me to get checked out at her clinic which I did, to then be referred to Hospital for trace, blood test etc for high bp. After a bit of monitoring they said I could go home but as bp is still a bit high local midwife is to keep an eye on things. I just want lo to come when he/she is good and ready, and the mention of the dreaded induction word sends me into a panic as I get the impression that gradually your birth choices are taken away from you this way. I have had two 'funny turns' in the past week which may have been a forewarning of this, sudden rush of blood to the head making my face burn and eyes go blurry. The feeling passed after half hour or so, so I didn't feel the need to mention it to midwife. Maybe should have...

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/08/2007 18:38

CONGRATULATIONS KINKI!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooo pleased for you, hope all is well and we look forward to hearing more about baby Liam!! xx

Sorry I haven't been on for a few days but what with DD's birthday and getting the nursery done I've been rushed off my feet or fast asleep! Will do a separate update as per usual after this...

Floss - hope you enjoyed having your hair done and bet its lovely!

EmLouT - you moan away, hope all is OK?

ETATLM - Are we to presume you're having your baby now!? How exciting!! Sending hugs your way!!!

FioFio - I've turned up for the wrong appointment before so I know how you feel LOL! Glad all is ok with lo's hb.

nettee - how is your DS now?

LLL - I sooo empathise with you about your hips - as HIWBB said we're also suffering and know how you feel - how are you now?

amyclaraelouisemum - glad to see you can type with one hand lol! Hope all is well xx

Kerri28 - What an awful mw, hope you're doing OK now? I'm sure it'll be ok on the day!

willjo - I know what you mean about bursting into tears in public - I did it just this afternoon! I made the mistake of going to Tesco's to get a few bits but I was in so much pain and was struggling to hobble on my crutches back to the car... Hope you're ok now?

dal - sorry lo is still breech but glad to hear that growth is going well - hang on in there!

MrsFish - How is DS now? Glad you got some sleep - where has DH gone for 10 days then? Are you in contact with him at least? Thinking of you and sending you hugs xx

hannahsaunt - glad all is well but sorry to hear about you getting sore ribs. Yay on finishing work though!

MMooMar - hope all goes OK with your Mum, sorry to hear you feel kept in the dark a bit (hugs). I still haven't got a feeding bra, must get out and do that! How did it go with taking DS to the mw with you? I took mine with me today and he was fine but then he is 13 (needed somebody to help me off the bed!!). He was amazed to hear lo's hb bless him. Sorry to hear about your freezer - when will it be back in action?

TwitmonstEr - Hope it went OK with your mum and step dad visiting, I take it they took DS home with them then? Enjoy your time alone with DP!

emj23 - hope lo stays put in the right position!

HIWBB - Did you find your crutches in the end, if so, how are you getting on with them? Funny, I've always been a superman freak too!!! (thats a whole other story lol). Glad you had fun at the safari park . Yes I do find it agony driving as far as pedals go but its not the clutch but the accelerator to the break that hurts iykwim as well as turning left - I guess its because my right hip is the one giving me jip!? Aren't we a pair! The more I moan, the more DH is convinced a bike is the way to go so I've stopped saying anything. Only thing is, I can't stop wincing when I'm driving lol!

MrsMar - we won't tell DH if you don't LOL! I'd love to clear out a load of my DH's junk - good on ya! Sorry to hear lo is breech, thinking of you xx

toadstool - you poor thing with DD having a tantrum, its so hard when they're so adorable too isn't it!! Hope all has calmed down now...

Rin - yay on starting maternity leave! Was the Cotswolds nice?

Jemima - I got that feeling yesterday of this one feeling like it was going to fall out of me when I was walking! I was convinced she was engaged but mw today doesn't think so

kyala - glad you had a good day yesterday

sophus - hope all is OK?

to everybody else!!! xx

emj23 · 30/08/2007 18:39

Sorry to hear about your accident Hayley2u, I'm glad you're okay and that your LO is fine too. I've been told my baby is going to be pretty big too - eeek!

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/08/2007 18:49

Saw the mw today and here's the update...

My bp is fine and my urine is fine yay! However, I've got carpal tunnel in my hands so I need to get some splints for night time as they sieze up in the mornings. They're painful the rest of the time anyways so just more pain on that front! I still look like shrek but without being green - I'm putting pics of my feet on my profile straight after posting this!

I'm measuring... wait for it... 45cms!!!! I have a growth scan next week and my mw is quite sure they'll not let me go past my due date - they'll probably induce me around that time if I haven't dropped before then. She was very sympathetic about the pain I'm in - I can hardly walk now let alone anything else so all the cleaning has gone on hold

I'm terrified of having to have a cs - not because of any horror stories but just because I have some strange need to give birth naturally - is that reasonable do you think? mw said to just put it out of my mind. Looks like lo is head down but she said it was hard to tell because I've got so much water retention on my bump - great!

So, I've decided to wait a few more days till I'm 37 weeks and the nursery is nearly complete then go full whack on the RLT, pineapple, currys and sex to see if we can't get this baby out before having to be induced!

My thoughts go out to all of you having to cope with breech babies and cs's. My SIL's cs was emergency but went fine and she recovered quickly and well for those who need more reassurance ((hugs))

Oh, and I found out last night that DH hasn't spoken with his boss about leave when lo puts in her appearance - yikes!!!! I've sent an e-mail to the lady who does the payroll asking if he'll be able to take short notice holiday and if so, how much does he have left (he hasn't worked there long enough to get paternity leave). Also, have given him strict instructions to have his mobile to hand in case something happens!

Love to all!!!

PLP (36+5) xxxxxxxxx

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/08/2007 19:15

Ooooh, sorry Hayley2u about your fall, hope you're feeling OK now but I bet that was a bit scary!!!

Looks like there's a few of us having big babies - yikes!!!!

MrsBumbleBee - sorry to hear DH is going back to work soon I made mine stay at home on Tuesday to help with DD's birthday - couldn't bear the thought of doing it on my own!

norfolkbumpkin - what an awful day you poor thing! Hope you're feeling ok now? Let us know how you get on! xx

dal21 · 30/08/2007 19:15

PLP - I think your post deserves a medal! Sorry to hear about all the pain you are in! I wonder if Indian takeaways are experiencing an increase in business right now?? the amount of women eating curries - they must be! good luck with it all and fingers crossed you get the non intervention birth you need!

Hayley - thank goodness you and bub are ok!

Norfolk - hope you are feeling ok too.

MrsB - I love having this time to myself. I spend the whole day pottering with no one under my feet! Heaven! Think I am making the most of the fact that this will be the last time in a very long time that I have quality quiet me time!

Thanks everyone for reassurances on breech. There seem to be so many of us due in sept with breech bubs. I am amazed.

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 19:15

PLP - DH has gone to Northern Spain and Portugal on a driving holiday with a load of other sports car enthusiasts. He has his mobile with him, so I can speak to him whenever I want The week should go pretty quick, my mum and two aunts are coming to stay with me at the weekend, so plenty of help with ds and then my friend is coming down from Leeds to stop with me on tuesday, wednesday, then ds starts a full day of nursery on thursday. Dh is back late on sunday, so all in all I reckon the week will go really quickly. I'm still miffed he is off on a jolly though

I hope you get everything sorted.

(35+4)

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 19:17

Hayley - Glad you are ok after what sounds like a nasty fall.

Norfolkbumpkin - hope you are feeling better soon.

dal21 · 30/08/2007 19:19

MrsF - his little holiday definitely translates into lovely postnatal package for you once you can leave bub with him for a day!

MrsFish · 30/08/2007 19:20

Dal - exactly

Although I have had lots of pressies before he went, so I can't complain

Norfolkbumpkin · 30/08/2007 19:33

Have sent dh down the local pub to have a drink with one of his mates so I can lay down and chill for a while. I know that being 39+2 I should expect things to happen any day now, but I would be gutted at being induced. I told the midwife this morning that I just wanted to start things off at home on my birthing ball and she said 'oh don't worry, all the rooms in the delivery suite have balls now'. Not quite the same as being in my own home with my creature comforts. In a way 'though it was useful in a way going to the hospital to see exactly what the rooms were like, if it really is as hot as they say and what the equipment looks like. Put my mind at ease in that respect.

diddle · 30/08/2007 19:57

Hope everyones feeling ok.

i've suddenley started to feel the strain of pregnancy, baby has turned from breech to head down in the last day and it is much more uncomfortable.

I am getting very excited about it arriving finally.

Going to Hoar Cross Hall Spa on Monday, i can't wait. it will be a lovely chance to relax for the day, rather than chasing around after my 14 month old. I've booked a mum to be package, so i'll probably be so relaxed Tuesday, i'll want to sleep all day.

Anyway off to watch the end of Eastenders
