I finally got my bounty pack today. I had to ask for it, but she said they didn't have any when I was booked in and have only just got them in. So DH said he will go and get my mum-to-be pack tomorrow from Asda (you get a free £5 voucher there woohooo)

aikigypsy · 23/08/2007 19:46

choudru -- honestly, I have no idea what we're planning. We're mostly just feeling it out as we go. The plan is for him to come over to my side of the Atlantic around the time of the birth, longer or shorter time depending on his school/work situation, then I will probably move over here and we'll be together for a while after the baby is born.

The relationship is really great, by far the best I've had -- which is not really saying all that much, but honestly, he's just so nice I wonder how I got so lucky as to stumble into him. Aww... however, I'm feeling very non-amorous at the moment, which worries me. I think it's just hormones and jet lag and gas and general bloated feeling, but if it doesn't pass I'm going to be very worried about myself.

jetgirl · 23/08/2007 20:25

Aiki - don't worry about feeling non-amorous, I am definitely not in the mood to be romanced, for want of a better phrase, and DH seems to realise this, just about!

FCH - weight gain really seems to vary from woman to woman so I wouldn't worry about it. However, I was really insulted by the HV today who said I looked much more than 28 weeks. My bump is measuring bang on and I've not gained anything anywhere else, and I remember looking much bigger at by 41+ weeks last time. What with the hormones that HV just made me really cross. She also told me my DD was too young to understand the concept of a reward chart which we are using as part of the potty training. Seeing as my DD can identify which column the sticker needs to go in I think she is more than capable. (But them I am a very proud mummy!)

Sparkly - glad everything seems to be going ok, and I hope you're managing to get enough rest.

loopy - ooh sudocrem, lovely! that'll be nice to clear up not! bad luck.

Pixie - regarding induction - there's a school of thought that if you're not ready mentally, then you wont go into labour (the brain being a very powerful thing!) Women have been known to wait until they've moved house, have childcare sorted, a DH/DP home who's been away etc before going into labour) I suppose that any "forcing" when you're not feeling ready would take much longer. Fear is the most powerful emotion for blocking things too.

Pixiefish · 23/08/2007 21:45

thansk all of you

I have to say that regarding the weigt gain thing. After dd and whilst bfeeding adn stuffing my face I put on 3 stone in weight. After Christmas i went on a diet and lost a stone and then with the hyperemesis I lost another 1/2 stone in the first few months.

when i went ont he scales a few weeks ago I was back up to the weight I was at Christmas, which is 3 stone over what I was before I had dd. I am just hoping that i don't put ona lot more weight as that means I'll have tons to shift after this one

Morning all,

Loopy - no need to poke off, did DLO first job and am about to short tour on my current appointment so assuming average point of promotion (as I can't be bothered to speculate how maternity leave / choosing some less challenging posts in favour of domestic harmony etc is going to affect promotion chances) I am about 5 years away from charge. So in answer to the question about whether I'll go or not I really have no idea. The thing is that whilst this baby will be in school any subsequent child (and I am waiting to see how I feel about going down this route but think I will want at least one more...) won't be. So, I suppose I am saying that I am not ruling it out, but I am not 100% hard over on going either. Also - it rather depends what is available for charge doesn't it? I mean getting a new build / doing move onboard, sea trials, work up etc and then handing over before the first real deployment is a different proposition to joining a running frigate and spending 16 months out of 21 away from the wall, which is what I did for my DLO time. So - no idea really!!!

And apologies to all those who that made no sense to!!

By the way - I was just looking at the "how do I know what sort of mum I'll be before the baby arrives" thread and realise I have no idea about that either so obviously all decisiveness out the window...

On the bright side the shop just sent me a text to say my pram and car seat have arrived and are ready for collection. Very exciting!!

Easywriter · 24/08/2007 10:09

FCH - I'm glad you added that that wouldn't make sense to some of us! I was truly puzzled till I hit that sentence.

How is everyone today? I feel great (maybe cos it's 10 o'clock and I'm still in bed). DP has taken this and next wek off work!! So wonderful and we had a great day yesterday. We went with DD's and thier best friend and her family paddling in a local river, we had a picnic and just LOADS of fun.

Today has dawned warm and sunny and the world is our oyster...

I'd better go, I'm far too happy.
Probably hormones.

geekInPigtails · 24/08/2007 10:41

oops, sorry pixiefish! it's hard to keep track, there are so many of us now!

FCH · 24/08/2007 11:46

Easy - just dawned that I probably should have issued the health warning before the totally uninteligible bit rather than after - not thinking massively straight this morning!

no idea, I just phoned for the results and was told that they are too high again (8.4) so to attend clinic next week to be shown how to test my blood 4 times a day

aikigypsy · 24/08/2007 15:32

That's a bummer, Sparkly. You've got more than enough needles to deal with already.

I am so incredibly jetlagged. I am glad that my boyfriend went to work this morning, because it's meant I can really just sit around doing nothing, and not worry about missing out on time with him and/or fun social things everyone else is doing. I had nasty cramps all day yesterday, and a bit this morning, but no discharge of any kind (well, less than usual, anyway) so I figure it's just intestinal/gas pain. Ridiculously sleepy.

I am also a bit concerned about the intervention rate at my local hospital, back home. The c-section rate is about 20%, which is reasonable for the US, but I found out that they have a 25% induction rate, which seems awfully high to me. I met the OB, rather than the midwife, and found out that he insists on inducing at 41.5 weeks, because the baby MUST be OUT before 42 weeks. They have my due date set 3 days early, as it is, and both me and my boyfriend were born "late" with interventions, which makes me think that there'll be a genetic predisposition to slow cooking, and I do not want my baby pushed out before she's ready (or a jacked-up-on-pitocin labour for me, for that matter). I found lots of interesting stuff on the internet about induction, genetic component of pregnancy length, etc., but am too lazy to find it again and put in links. Anyway, I'm anticipating a bit of a battle when I get home, and/or in November. Sadly, no home birth midwives in my area.

iris66 · 24/08/2007 16:09

oh Sparkly - that's pants though pretty borderline IMVHO given that you only have to be under 8, and at 10 I only have to test 4 times a day! Could it be the steroids that are pushing it up d'you think (did they say?) Well, at least you're not on your own - I'll join you in a leanchickensaladnomayo fest

Aikigypsy - get the rest while you can. The jetlag won't be as bad on your way home. They're very stringent in the US aren't they! Good job Loopy's not delivering there!!! I can only imagine the flap they'd be in lol (note to self....don't laugh at own jokes )

FCH - I didn't realise you were in the navy. I worked at Portland many years ago when it was still a dockyard (as a snivel servant )

Easywriter - whatever you're on I'll have a pint please (far to jolly to be normal!!!)

I saw the lovely MW today to collect my testing stuff & had a long chat about HB, doulas, lack of support during last hosp labour, impared glucose risks etc & she offered to go on call to be with me if I ended up labouring in hospital I was so touched! I'm going to have a think about the whole HB issue over the coming weeks and make a decision once I've a better idea about how controlled the GD is.
Downside is I've now got appointments up the yinyang for growth scans/meetings with the consultant/ reviews with the GD team etc all falling just when DH is going away for 2 weeks . Typical! but at least the weather's going to be good over the next few days. Anyone going away or doing anything special? (we're not, I hasten to add!)

RGPargy · 24/08/2007 16:39

Hi everyone

Sparkly - What a load of poo pants!! So sorry you're having this extra stress added to your plate.

Well it's day 2 of skiving off work and i have to say i feel really miserable and down today! I dont know why I feel like this, but it started off when DP (who also has today off) started moaning about DS slamming around downstairs whilst he was getting ready for work. We have no carpets at all in the house so every bang of a plate of cupboard shutting is amplified 1,000 times! I dont know why but i felt guilty about DS slamming around and felt that it was all my fault and just ended up blubbering away. I think i'm just having an off day where i just want to stuff my face with bad stuff and have a grizzle now and then. I dont blame DP for getting the hump because obviously he's going to want a lie in on his day off, especially as he gets up at 5am and all this banging around was only at 8am!

Ah well, we went to the local high street a bit later and i ended up in Evans getting measured for a bra. I'm now the horrific size of 44F I daren't weight myself because i think i will be in next stone up bracket and that will REALLY depress me! When i was being measured i felt like i had to say "i'm pregnant, y'see and have lost track of what bra size i am now" coz i really dont think i look pg in some clothes, especially what i was wearing today (just trackie bottoms and a t-shirt).

Good news is tho that i found a nice little night shirt thing to wear during labour. It comes to about mid thigh length and is like a very long cami top so i shouldn't get too hot in it either. Let's hope i dont get cold!

I should be asleep, but can't sleep atm. My MW is lovely too, and she actually lives just around the corner from me. I joked that she should just pop round and deliver the baby, when the time comes. I know I wouldn't be allowed a HB with my history, but I can dream eh?

I am hoping that my mum's old neighbour is on duty the night I deliver, she delivered DD2 and I have to say it was great having someone who knew me, and let me get on with it.

Pixiefish · 25/08/2007 08:45

morning all. Scan went well yesterday and baby is measuring 30 weeks. Had to go to the unit up on the ante and post natal ward for a doctor to look at the results- only cos the consultant told me though as Iw as happy with what the sonographer told me.

Twas quite funny actually as i had to take dd (3) in with me due to dh being stuck in traffic and she was such a good little girl, she sat next to the radiographer and looked at the screen the whole time- bless her. The she lay ont he table and the lovely osnographer ran the scanner quickly over her belly- made her day
