Careful Loopy your midwife with dd2 might just be lurking and she will give you nothing but salad and fruit when you come to visit next week.

Blimey it has been a busy week. It's taken me over an hour to catch up.

Sounds like it's been a tough one re injections, birthing plans and sudocremed children.

We had a marvellous holiday. Lots of walks (no proper hiking though grrr) aided by my oh so sexy support belt which really helped. Managed one stroll of nearly an hour. Needless to say had to go back for a nap afterwards.
I love the North West of Scotland - especially when in a swanky cottage c'os then the midges can't get you.

have a happy Sunday

Hello everyone!! Who else has got sunburn from the weather?!!

I went to a BBQ at my dad's yesterday and surprisingly for him, he had no shade in the garden. So i ended up getting a bit of sunburn on my face, arms and the top of my boobs (what's that called - decolitage or summat?).

Still, the weather is lovely and at least it's not raining!

Welcome back from your hols littleoldme!

Sparkly - in a perfect world we would all have someone there for us during labour, who knew us before and during pg, and who was totally on side and able to support us with our DH/DP and challenge any beaurocracy/unnecessary interventions/orders to let us birth the way we want. Ooooh didn't that used to be a MW's job? (sorry for sarcasm) I dearly wish that MWs could do their job without the constraints they're put under but, since they can't, I suppose that's why we have doulas/IMs now. Very sad.

Littleoldme - glad you had a good hols been chilling at costa del home and am bronzing nicely (though scaring - or is that scarring!! - the neighbours in my bikini lol)

Loopy - packing what a nause. Was living on Portland and working there AUWE/PARU 86-89. Used to get a lift home from one of the old shipwrights in his plastic pig lol (had my first "hen" lunch in the green shutters & OD'd on pernod & black! halcyon days...!)

Quiet in here today, isn't it?

I had a nice, dull weekend with lots of napping. This morning I put together some of my research on post-dates induction stuff for my birth plan, but of course I lost the link to the most interesting study I found, which showed that length of gestation is inherited (father's side has an effect, too), and that the baby's brain sends out some kind of signal which triggers labour. Anyway, I've got it written down now, so hopefully I'll be able to quit running round in circles on the internet and get on to the next project -- figuring out what to do for work, next.

How is everyone?

littleoldme · 27/08/2007 16:14

Aiki - I'd be grateful if you could send me any useful links on this. There is no way I am going to induced so I need to be armed with as much info as poss.

Found a tub of Ben and Jerry's Phish Food in the freezer this pm. We bought it before we went away and I'd forgotten about it. I can only begin to describe my delight (grin)

littleoldme · 27/08/2007 16:15

That should have been And yes, it is quiet on here today.

aikigypsy · 27/08/2007 16:39

Thanks for motivating me to actually look it up again. Here are the two most scholarly-useful articles I found:

www.transitiontoparenthood.com/ttp/birthed/duedatespaper.htm

and www.greenjournal.org/cgi/content/full/107/4/880

This is a good one about problems with induction: www.motherfriendly.org/Downloads/induct-fact-sheet.pdf

Basically what I'm going to ask for is monitoring every 3 days or so starting from 10 days past the due date I calculate (based on conception, not LMP), including monitoring of amniotic fluid, fetal non-stress tests, and checking the condition of the placenta. This is because I am, after all this research, convinced that there are some risks associated with prolonged pregnancy, and I want the medical people to know that I'm really informed about this and not just sniffing the patchouli too much.

Good luck with it!

mrsjetson · 27/08/2007 17:42

Hi there - wow you girls have been busy!!

We are definitely on the countdown to EDD'S. Thank Goodness!

Hope everyone is feeling well and not too lethargic yet!!

Sorry I haven't the time to read through all of the posts - busy packing up for our return - 3 weeks to go and counting....

Will drop in before we leave.

sparklygothkat · 27/08/2007 18:26

hi, all!! Went away for the weekend, and just got home. Had a lovely break and am all relaxed now.
Brought some bits for the baby at the HUGE carboot today.
We still are undecided on a name, DH likes one name but I am unsure. Anyone else still having problems

aikigypsy · 27/08/2007 18:47

We're having problems with a name, too. My boyfriend has settled on one, but I'm not totally sure about it. I'm also thinking about middle names.

ara · 27/08/2007 18:51

Hello everyone, my god, every time i log on it takes me donkey's years to catch up on everyone's news!
Sparkly lots of you are such a trooper and hope it is going ok for you.
RG - I'm glad you made the responsible decision last week and stuck your feet up when you had the opportunity!!
You won't believe this - I went to my parents for the weekend and weighed myself while I was in the loo on Saturday night and i have put on...

.....wait for it....

..

.....

3 STONE

argh.

ara · 27/08/2007 18:52

aiki - we haven't even got as far as having a list in common!!!!

got to admit it's making me faintly nervous now...!

AnnainNZ · 27/08/2007 18:56

We did a list of ones we both liked and then suddenly out of the blue DH has decided he likes Trinity, as it goes well with our surname.

FGS. Over my dead body.

ara · 27/08/2007 18:58

hee hee - my dp keeps coming up with whacky (and not in a good way) names too!! not on your nelly to that, i say!!

ara · 27/08/2007 19:02

...we do both like archie though, so i think we'll be ok if the LO is a boy but i have had a strange hunch this week that it might actually be a little girl. First feeling i have had either way which is strange as everyone else is utterly convinced it'll be a boy for some reason.

AnnainNZ · 27/08/2007 19:03

If it was a boy he wanted Loki - it's the Norse god of mischief apparently - no idea where that came from

(Hope no one on here is mortally offended as they have a little Loki/Trinity )

Baby name books/web

AnnainNZ · 27/08/2007 19:04

That posted before I clicked on the post message button. Spooky!

It was meant to say, baby name books/websites have a lot to answer for

ara · 27/08/2007 19:06

I'm impressed by your DH! He's really getting into it! He just needs some subtle guidance from you now - can you whisper the names you like into his ear while he's sleeping in the hope that he gets struck by divine inspiration the following morning and bingo! everyone happy!

AnnainNZ · 27/08/2007 19:08

I oculd try teh whispering while asleep thing right now - it's 6 am so he's asleep.

He keeps rubbing my bump and saying "Hello Trinity!" which is mildly amusing but I think the humour value will wear off

ara · 27/08/2007 19:10

give it a bash - nowt wrong with a bit of subliminal messaging!

I've subliminally messaged DP to bring me some nice dinner in about twenty seconds so best sign off for now -- let me know how you get on !
