LOOPY!!!!!!!!

aiki - glad you have arrived safely

sparklygothkat · 22/08/2007 23:32

I proberably did something really silly, but I ate popcorn earlier.. with sugar! I have mt GTT tomorrow too..

RGPargy · 22/08/2007 23:35

SPARKLY!!!!!!! You KNOW you shouldn't have done that!! Ah well, hopefully you'll still be ok by the morning.

sparklygothkat · 22/08/2007 23:39

I know, it was before the cut off time tho. I just really really fancied some popcorn, was actually trying to get DH to go the cinema and getting me some of their sweet popcorn, but he wouldn't! He said that they wouldn't just let him in to buy popcorn, I told him to tell them that he had a pregnant wife at home who needed popcorn... but he still wouldn't

jetgirl · 22/08/2007 23:42

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow Sparkly.

Choudru - you have to do what feels good for you, although sometimes when other people (medical and relatives) are offering all sorts of advice I know that can feel difficult. My MW says I probably won't be having a waterbirth after my difficult labour last time, but no decisions will be made until I've seen a consultant. I still really want a waterbirth and am gutted I couldn't have one last time, but the important thing is everything was okay in the end.

Saw MW today. DD was so cute, asking her what she was doing when she was feeling the baby, and she said the baby was noisy when we listened to the heartbeat!

DD's 2nd birthday is on Saturday. Being the supermum I am I have decided to make a cake which bears a passing resemblance to the Night Garden, as seen on CBeebies. I will also purchase a spare cake from Sainsury's in case it all goes horribly wrong! DH has decided to make Tombliboo biscuits... (If you haven't seen In the Night Garden, watch it, it's wuite sweet really).

sparklygothkat · 22/08/2007 23:49

DS2 decided earlier to push right over to the right side, he has been on that side for weeks now, but my bump took on an alien shape and it was very very uncomfortable. I had to gently push him over. Why do they prefer one side?

AnnainNZ · 23/08/2007 07:44

Easywriter - "very distinctive" eh?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

nicolatabb · 23/08/2007 09:41

Long time no post.

I thinks its interesting what everyone has been writing about different types of births recently. When I went for my booking in appointment my midwife instantly said that home birth/water birth was not an option for me, and I was wondering if this blanket ban is justified.

As far as I can tell the reasons are that I'm rhesus negative and I have asthma. I've been giving this some thought today and it occured to me that while my rhesus negativeness might prevent me from having a home birth because I will need anti D, I can't see why it, or indeed my asthma should stop me from having a water birth.

What do you all think? I think I need to start writing my birth plan soon so I'd be very interested in your views.

On the topic of birth plans my midwife hasn;t provided me with any kind of pro-forma to fill in - she said just write one. Does anyone have any forms to fill in that'll make it easy to read for the mid wives looking after me, or should I just do my own thing?

I am back!! My fasting bloods were 4.8 so hoping that its less than 7.8 for the second test.. I can get the results tomorrow. The last one was 9.6!!
Seen the mw and all is well, Ds2 is growing well, and bang on for dates He is still head down, with his bum in the air.. Hear his heartbeat, which was lovely. She did say that I have to rest more though.. She knows how much we have been through this last week, because I went to school with her kids, and she knows the family well, so she said to rest and slow down

iris66 · 23/08/2007 13:24

ooh - I'll keep everything crossed for you Sparkly Now go & sit down and relax as ordered!

Haematologist yesterday- he wants a case conference when I'm 36 weeks. He's of the mind that he wants the birth to take place during office hours so either CS or early induction but needs to chat it all through with Obs at 36 weeks. Need to ring midwife to sort all that out early next week now.

SGK- hope your results are ok tomorrow

Glad to hear everything went well Sparkly - and please do take the advise to rest even though I know it's easier said than done.

I should be taking my own advise but I am having hectic week trying to get hospital bag and baby preparations done. Also my 2 best friends are coming from London with their DHs to stay over the bank hol so need to get the house in a decent state.

But after this week, my life should get a lot lot more relaxed. I will have done pretty much everything I need to and can just put my feet up and wait for baby!

Loopy and Jet - you both do have a point. I will research benefit of continual monitoring and see what I find. I wouldn't mind being monitored for half an hour every couple of hours - just don't want to be saddled with it constantly.

Thanks for the tip

Aiki - forgive me for being nosey but what arrangment have you and baby's dad agreed on for bringing baby up? Will you be a couple or will you be 'co-parents' for lack of a better phrase.

Off to have lunch now - bit late he he

FCH · 23/08/2007 15:41

Hello all,

Just looked at that homebirth thread RGP . I was a bit taken aback and am starting to wonder if I am an alien. This is my first baby and it didn't even occur to me to consider electing a hospital birth if I am still low risk at full term . I was amazed by some of the comments!!

SGK - hope the test results come back with good news.

Loopy - apple cream doughnuts - it's torture!!

Funny how there is always something on this thread that has been on my mind. Today there are two things!

Weight gain - I am currently (at 30 weeks) just under a stone heavier than pre-pregnancy (when I was completely happy with my weight) and this seems a little low judging from some of the books I'm reading, but my MW is happy and bump measurements are bang on. I am relieved to see that this actually seems to vary wildly!

The other thing is the work / maternity leave thing. I am actually quite nervous about giving up work for the 8 months I am currently planning. I love being at work and am a bit concerned about creating a structure for my day etc at home to ensure I don't get lonely! I am sure that I will be able to join clubs, make friends with other people at home during the day etc, but it is reassuring to see that I am not the only one thinking about this. I love this thread !

Jossiejump · 23/08/2007 16:31

FCH-don't worry about weight gain, I'm currently 27 weeks and have only put on 4lbs, I guess that as there was quite a ot of me pre pregnancy then the baby is taking from me.
With DS1 I put on 2 stone, with DS2 18lbs, so I just think everyone is different!

RGPargy · 23/08/2007 16:44

Hi everyone!

haven't posted much today because i've been busy doing HOUSEWORK (yes i finally caught that skivalitus bug) and also talking about creepy loft rooms in the chat forum lol.

Sparkly - good luck for tomorrow! Go stick your feet up!

Pixie - glad to see there's at least a plan coming together.

Choudru - sounds like you need to get your feet up as well! We're all getting bigger so need to take a bit more action in relaxing i think!

FCH - Some of the comments on that thread WERE shocking weren't they! I do think the OP was either a troll or just very naive. I know what you mean about giving up work and being on your own. I'm kinda nervous about that too and dont really have any idea where to start looking for groups. People dont normally tend to come and befriend me either. Maybe it's because i'm quite shy to those i dont know (you'd never know it if you met me in RL!) so perhaps i kinda make myself unapproachable to an extent, if that makes sense?? I think i will make extra effort to be friendly with this LO.

Loopy - how were the donuts. mmmm i would KILL for some right now. I might have to nip to Asda.......

sparklygothkat · 23/08/2007 17:01

have just woken back up, I am lucky in a way, because we are both at home, due to having 2 disabled kids, so I can sleep and DH watches the kids. I was going to go to the shops to get some mince for dinner and DH insisted that I stay here and he has gone. Atm its easy to rest, once the kids go back to school, its harder.

Have sorted school uniforms, just need to name everything. And the baby's room is nearly finished now, just need to put up the border (Dh can do that) and put up curtains (DH again lol) And the house is clean (Dh did that, can you see a pattern here?? PMSL!!)

Ds2 has been head down since 24 weeks, so 5 weeks and yes I haven't gone in labour yet, not even a twinge. So am doing ok.

MW said I am not allowed to come and moan at her at 40 weeks when I can't move and am the size of a house..

Pixiefish · 23/08/2007 17:05

Don't know Loopy. Initially it was an induction until i spoke to my friend today and she was induced early and it took 3 days.

Anyone here have any experience of an early induction for medical reasons?

OP posts:
iris66 · 23/08/2007 17:15

i was induced Pixie. I was put on a drip at 5pm & DS was born at 0232 the next morning. It seemed to take ages to get going, from what I remember, but according to my notes I was in "established labour" for less than 3 hours. It was a bit more painful than doing it naturally but DS was back to back which didn't help.

Pixiefish · 23/08/2007 17:40

Were you having an early induction though Iris? My friend had an early induction and thinks that her body wasn't ready and that's why it took so long

OP posts:
geekInPigtails · 23/08/2007 18:19

Pixie, I was talking to my mum about her births the other day (she's not the kind of person who chats naturally about that kind of thing without a reason, so I didn't know until I asked!). My mum's rhesus negative so had the whole antibody malarky going on when pregnant with my DB. It all started to go a bit hairy towards the end, so she was induced 3 weeks early. She said she was given one injection the evening of one day, and another at 9am the next day - she can't remember what the difference between the two injections was. But the second one obviously did the trick because she went from nothing at 9am to my DB turning up at 11am! VERY quick, but then that was her second.

I get the impression (from hearsay mostly )that people's reactions to being induced vary enormously - as your friend said, it may depend how ready you and baby already are, and it's not easy to tell that from dates, especially with your first. Sorry, that's not particularly helpful is it Hope you're able to come to a decision that you and your medical-types are all comfortable with.

Pixiefish · 23/08/2007 18:59

It's my second geek
I have a dd

Thansk for your answers
