Apparently it’s normal not to feel until 24 weeks so don’t worry

123Pandy · 03/01/2020 20:30

Hi ladies.
Had our 20 week scan and they noticed slightly enlarged ventricles and mild increase of fluid in baby's brain. So worried now..have another scan in a few days. 😔
Has anyone heard /had any experience with this?
Hoping for some reassurance

sazzlerazzle · 03/01/2020 20:57

Lovely pics @GinUnicorn congrats!

I was only going to start my mat leave a week before my due date but everyone seems to be going really early... should I be worried about this?? We only get stat maternity too so I need to save as much of this as possible for when the baby is actually here.

GinUnicorn · 03/01/2020 21:18

@sazzlerazzle I plan to leave it as late as possible too for the same reason.

Purple29 · 03/01/2020 21:34

@sazzlerazzle I was thinking the same, I work 5 mins from my house and the hospital is inbetween so I was planning to work as long as I could, so hoping till about 38-39 weeks!! Would rather have the time with the baby!

sazzlerazzle · 03/01/2020 21:59

@GinUnicorn @Purple29 In an ideal world
I’d go earlier and take a full year off too but it’s not to be :(

Bumpingalong84 · 03/01/2020 23:24

@sazzlerazzle I wouldn’t worry too much and I’d want as much time with baby, I’m only going off early because my DD was 36+3 and my short cervix measurement means I may go into labour early again, waiting to see consultant next Friday to have it re-measured and see what they say, else I would have gone off later. I felt great right up to my waters breaking before so was hoping for the same again.

@mrsf1204 I’m feeling good, my placenta is at the front so not huge amounts of movements but can feel her most days in the evening right at the bottom of my tummy.

@facevalue I’ll also be keeping my DD at nursery, she goes 3 long days a week so it’ll be good for her I think and nice time for me and baby to do some baby groups as I won’t be doing nct again.

@123Pandy so sorry you had a worrying scan. Hopefully all will be well in a few days and they can reassure you.

@GinUnicorn lovely scan photos, I’ll guess boy but got no real reason haha. We’re you not temped then?

facevalue · 04/01/2020 01:25

@123Pandy oh babe i'm so sorry you are having to wait. whatever i imagine the stress to be im sure it's not the same. one friend had her 20w scan 2 days b4 Christmas day and they said something wasn't completely normal looking with the heart but they needed the specialised dr to repeat the scan to check it in few days - so she had to cancel her trip to scotland and her husband had to go as there was a big family event- she spent Christmas alone waiting for a call back to go back for this heart scan alone... she went after boxing day and the consultant had a quick look and said all looks normal 😳🙄🙄... the poor girl was crying everyday and didn't celebrate xmas ... my second friend had a regular scare about size where they kept asking her to come back for repeat scans every week ( saying they might induce her early if the baby looks like it's not growing something to do with the placenta blood flow and she had a perfectly normal healthy baby boy in the end ... sadly all these scans are to pick up things to help us have a healthy living baby but also are a cause of huge stress. the fact is they r just checking things. they want to be safe and sure so they bring you back- your next scan is likely to be normal ... try to distract yourself and just watch positive youtube stories- try not to google it ( u always come across the scary rubbish and u don't need this at this stage). huge hugs xxx

Hi everyone... just wondered if anyone else was experiencing the following!
For the past few days my tummy has been quite tender. At times it keeps going extremely tight and hard and will be really soar for that time. Happens mainly after I've eaten but not always a regular pattern. It sometimes lasts 30 plus minutes... sometimes more or less. It's not crippling over pain, but it's really uncomfortable and just feels really hard!
I'd wondered if it was beacon hicks but apparently they only last a few minutes so doubt it.
Baby is moving well and had my scan on Thursday which was fine!
I've been a bit unwell the past few days... just really run down with a bit of a nasty virus but not sure what relates to what or what I should be worried about anymore 🤦🏼‍♀️

november90 · 04/01/2020 01:44

@123Pandy I'm really sorry about the news at your scan. I don't have any knowledge about this unfortunately, did the sonigrapher give any explanation/concern at all? I really hope you're as ok as can be, I know this must be so stressful for you!
Babies can change so much from scan to scan, it happened in my scan as they thought the placenta was in the wrong place... but it changed place 1 week later. hopefully things will all be ok when you next go in ❤️❤️❤️

Sunshine8888 · 04/01/2020 09:55

For those with anterior placenta, movement will be coming. I’m 23 weeks today and last night baby had moved higher up, she was kicking away and my husband and I could see my stomach moving! It was actually crazy but also amazing to see ☺️

Herewego2020 · 04/01/2020 10:29

@123pandy I'm so sorry you going through this. I also don't have any knowledge to comment on this but I send you hugs and lots of positive energy. We are all here and thinking of you x

GinUnicorn · 04/01/2020 10:51

@123Pandy sorry I don’t know anything but thinking of you

Lifesforlivingandloving · 04/01/2020 12:45

I'm due 2nd May and hoping to work up until 15th of April . I will have 2 weeks leave to use by then so my first two weeks will be holiday and then maternity will start . We get 6 weeks at 90% full wage and then go onto SMP.
Not sure if I'll be able to do up till the 15th tho it all depends how I feel- I work with adults with disabilities so the job can be quite tiring !
I just want as long as poss off with baby without worrying about money
Partner and I are both saving now though so we have some money to fall back on whilst I'm on maternity :) x
Back to work Monday after Xmas break but once I'm back only 3.5 months left till maternity :) yay x

Moongirl10 · 04/01/2020 14:38

Here’s the pic from my scan yesterday. It’s a boy 💙

GinUnicorn · 04/01/2020 16:14

Did any of you see immediately on your scan out of interest? I’m leaning towards baby gin being a girl as the Sonographer had to take a good look before she knew. I peeked but didn’t see a thing!

GinUnicorn · 04/01/2020 16:14

Congratulations @Moongirl10 did we guess right?

Moongirl10 · 04/01/2020 16:46

@GinUnicorn I think everyone on here guessed girl lol 😂

123Pandy · 04/01/2020 17:13

Thanks guys for your kind words. Support on this thread is incredible. We will see what happens at the scan on Tuesday and take it from there. Hopefully all is well x

mintbear · 04/01/2020 17:51

@123Pandy I hope all goes well on Tuesday, must seem like the longest wait in the world.

@GinUnicorn I could see straight away, I think if you understand the angle they look at it from, you can see. I imagine they take longer to 'make sure' it's a girl if that makes sense, whereas with boys, I imagine it's easier.

We've had our snuzpod delivered and we've put it up, seeing it in our bedroom has made it all very real!

I've spent some time today planning/designing the nursery and picking out furniture. I'm getting most things from Ikea.

Also I've been looking at finances, I have no idea how much extra to budget for a month for a baby? Any ideas?

Herewego2020 · 04/01/2020 18:38

@123pandy thinking of you ❤

@mintbear ohhhhhhh that's the one we want, well me more so lol. Going to order next week. Did you get the rocking one? I've been saving for a while myself but also moving end of month and have to pay for all new carpets and we need bigger sofa. We are going to an ikea shop too to do the kids rooms they are so ideal and reasonable... l need to win the lotto ideally would prob help if I played for a start lol.

facevalue · 04/01/2020 18:39

@mintbear i think the budgeting is mostly for you and your bills without pay ( the baby might cost nappies/ toiletries/ clothes/ classes) if u breast feed ... otherwise add price of bottles/ formula/ water flasks).

Herewego2020 · 04/01/2020 18:42

I can't remember who guessed girl on here for our baby but they got it right lol. Despite oh trying to work all the theories himself then looking at the Chinese calendar and coming to a conclusion it was a boy.
I didn't look @ginunicorn and even if I did I doubt I would see but when I had boys before she knew straight away.. with this one which is a girl she took little longer before telling my mum lol

Herewego2020 · 04/01/2020 18:45

@facevalue you just reminded me of a question I wanted to ask here lol
How many are planning to breastfeed out of interest? I tried with my first son and I got mastitis and had to go stay in hospital then with my 2nd I was so terrified I would get again ☹ but this time I really would like to try but I am anxious

facevalue · 04/01/2020 18:49

@Herewego2020 yep. did with my first and enjoyed it so much ( i appreciate it was bloody hard work and meant less sleep etc but rewarding). if i'm lucky and manage to BF the baby this time too x 👍🏼 yep
