Happy new year everyone!
Glad to hear everyone's scans are going well 😊
Wondering if anyone can help me. I've had the pleasure of experiencing a wonderful new symptom over the past 2 days...it's a stitch like pain that lasts pretty much all day. It's on the right hand side of my belly and is quite sharp and stops me from moving freely.
Is this round ligament pain?

mintbear · 02/01/2020 19:22

@CharlieB93 there goes the career as a nub guessing specialist 😂.
Congrats on the news

Bumpingalong84 · 02/01/2020 19:40

Hey ladies. God this thread moves quick. Happy new year 🍾

We had our 20wk scan on New Year’s Eve that confirmed we are expecting our second DD, over the moon as really wanted a sister for my DD and know we are done after this tho either would have been a blessing. Everything was fine and measured well, needed to do some shaking of the hips to do measurements but she everntually moved.

The one thing of concern is I had a cervix length check, this was due to DD being a bit early 36+3 and my cervix is short. Have to go back next week to have it remeasured and take it from there with the pre term clinic so slightly anxious about that.

Has everyone decided roughly when they are going off? I’m planning on the 9th of April just before Easter I’ll be 35wks which is not a bad thing for me!!

Bumpingalong84 · 02/01/2020 19:46

My girlie. Also have an anterior high placenta but have felt her since 18wks if not a bit earlier and DH felt her Boxing Day.

@mintbear thanks. It's looking like I might have to go in on my own as they're not keen on kids there, and it's in the morning so my MIL will be at work and DH will have to have the toddler Sad Has anyone been on their own? I suppose it doesn't really matter, but there's always the possibility of bad news... I'm a glass half full kind of person, but you never know!

Still got my fingers crossed MIL can somehow manage it but we'll have to see!

sazzlerazzle · 02/01/2020 20:08

Ok rant incoming.... maternity clothes! What the effing eff! I am on the short side so I’m used to altering the odd hem here and there but generally I can shop main ranges just fine, not limited to just petite clothes.

But wtf do the high street think happens to pregnant ladies? Why is everything HUGE? Yes my belly is bigger but I don’t remember my arms inflating or getting longer? I don’t have rugby player shoulders all of a sudden. I don’t always want to wear a flipping smock either! Who are these clothes for???

Aaaaand breathe 😂

Clairesoph · 02/01/2020 20:15

@Herewego2020 just read that you are at Addenbrookes we are at Hinchingbrooke just down the road! Where about a are you from? I had to have an amnio at Rosie in prev pregnancy and their facilities were amazing! So shiny and new!!

CharlieB93 · 02/01/2020 20:20

@mintbear sorry if that was your aspiration! Thank you 😊

Herewego2020 · 02/01/2020 20:33

@clairesoph I am literally 5 mins from the hospital but moving up the dreaded A14 end of this month Smile hopefully the road is better by time I go in labour else she will be born on the A14 lol

123Pandy · 02/01/2020 20:34

@sazzlerazzle I'm short too so feel your pain. Topshop jeans are pretty good. I also got some
Maternity leggings from ASOS petite range that fit well

sazzlerazzle · 02/01/2020 20:43

@123Pandy ah yes I’ve got a few maternity petite leggings from ASOS too and they’re great, I’m living in them! Nice dresses and tops though.... everything is rubbish 😩

GinUnicorn · 02/01/2020 21:11

@CharlieB93 ha ha totally wrong then. Congratulations on your little girl Flowers

Moongirl10 · 02/01/2020 21:36

Thanks for all the tips on bladder/20 week scan! My scan tomorrow got moved an hour forward so once less hour to wait Grin

@123Pandy I’ve been getting the same pain the last few days on and off. I think it’s muscle/ligament pain but not sure.

123Pandy · 02/01/2020 22:31

@sazzlerazzle I know...maternity clothes do make me feel a bit blah but I guess it's only for a short period of time!

@Moongirl10 thanks for replying. Had a bath and it feels better already 😊
I've also got my 20 week scan tomorrow! Hope it all goes well

facevalue · 03/01/2020 00:09

@123Pandy yeah very short time! 18 years lol .. goodluck with your scan tomorrow x

@Bumpingalong84 i've not decided but will try to leave it as late as possible.. with my first i went on mat leave at 34w and was very ready to stop but had my daughter at 41w .. this time i'm going to stop at 37 weeks - i really want to keep my leave for after matleave to get paid.. i guess it all depends on what your job involves and your financial needs vs health!

woollycat · 03/01/2020 07:28

Re mat leave - my due date is May 21 and I am thinking of going on leave on May 4. Is this super optimistic? My husband will be taking shared parental leave at the same time as me for at least a month so we won't have the full 12 months, so that's why we hope to start as late as possible to have more time at the end.

May2311 · 03/01/2020 07:35

I'm due 14th May and starting 4th May- however my leave year goes from June to June and work want me to use up this years leave beforehand so thinking of putting it in for April( I have loads left) so would finish 5 April instead. I don't think I would manage till 4 May if I wasn't going to do this- I already moan constantly about how tired I am and my PGP🤣🤣 xxx

Sunshine8888 · 03/01/2020 08:18

I am due 2 May and my last day is 3 April. I’ll be 36 weeks. I have to use annual leave up before May anyway so using that first and then officially I don’t actually start maternity leave until 16 April which is 2 working weeks and 2 working days before my due date when I’m 38 weeks. I am hoping to have some time to myself before baby arrives - this gives me 4-6 weeks unless she comes early! On the 3 month countdown now!

mintbear · 03/01/2020 08:27

My dd is 30 April, however I'm likely to have the baby early. At the moment I'm planning on starting my mat leave at the end of feb (if I can last until then, I'm still off sick quite a bit). I have to use my years worth of holiday first, so that'll take me to then of March(ish) then I'll officially start my mat leave.

I get 18wks full pay then onto smp, although I still get my car allowance paid throughout which is good.

My husband gets 9 months fully paid! He can take it in up to 3 'chunks' of time eg 3 lots of 3 months up to the baby is 2.

Sunshine8888 · 03/01/2020 08:30

Wow @mintbear you are so lucky. I get nothing but statutory which is shocking considering I’m a lawyer - most law firms offer at least a bit of enhanced maternity pay but not mine!

Caspianberg · 03/01/2020 08:33

I'm self employed, so won't be having a long leave. Main thing is a holiday rental/ b and b that we run on site where we live.

Slightly concerned as due date 30th April, have blocked out 1st April- 1st June, but first guests arrive the first week of June. So baby will be 4 weeks if on time, less if not. Many were booked in from last summer, so before even knew about baby, so can't really cancel. Also the summer season is peak season, so we would be tight without opening.

I'm booking cleaners to help me, and baby better be happy in a sling!

mintbear · 03/01/2020 08:34

@Sunshine8888 that is really surprising, most law firms have really good policies. I'm at one of the big four firms but my husbands leave trumps mine. It's a new policy to tackle equality in the workplace so everyone, regardless of gender gets the same leave.

facevalue · 03/01/2020 08:50

@Sunshine8888 omg! is that even legal?! or did you just start with the firm and you needed to complete some time in the job b4 your mat allowance would kick in? that's very strange for the UK.

@mintbear your husband is lucky but i know it's sexist+selfish that i would prefer to be with the baby cos i want to continue breast feeding- are you taking your leave first then handing over to him? or you will stay off unpaid or part time while he joins you for 9 months paternity ? i wouldn't know how to plan this.

@Caspianberg wow- have you got parents/ in-laws that can chip in? alternatively pay an au pair or childminder or even nursery to ease things during your peak season?! oh man this sounds tough unless you are a super saver😭

i booked my C section for 12 May ( i'll be just over 39 weeks) so will stop work 1 may as annual leave - i've got lots of leave to take so not sure how work would allow it🥺

mintbear · 03/01/2020 09:10

@facevalue I'm planning to take a year off, the last 3 months are unpaid. Husband is still thinking about how best to take his, it's completely separate to mine (not part of the shared parental leave thing) so he might do 3 months to start (I too will likely have a c section), then who knows, he might take 6 months over the summer next year, so that'll save us on childcare for a bit when I go back

GinUnicorn · 03/01/2020 09:11

Wow I’m so jealous of you all with decent leaves. Mines stat as well which sucks but I also do some freelance which I plan to use to pay the bills and work around baby.
