Happy new year everyone!
I've just been for my repeat 20 weeel scan and the placenta has now moved and is in a normal position :) Despite the fact the scan was extremely rushed, she said everything was ok! Phew! Anyone else massively disappointed in the service from NHS? This is my second baby and first time round there was so much time and consideration and reassuring. On scan today she didn't turn the monitor on until the end and didn't ask me if I wanted a photo :( the scan lasted about 3 minutes!!!
Anyway, not dwelling on that! SO happy to see my little boy and hear all is well :)

Herewego2020 · 02/01/2020 09:26

@sunshine8888 thank youFlowers

mintbear · 02/01/2020 09:27

@AlmostAlwyn
Just saw your message come up so thought I'd tag you, this is the main may thread

AlmostAlwyn · 02/01/2020 09:48

@mintbear thanks very much! I thought it was a bit quiet over on the other thread Smile

sao81 · 02/01/2020 10:53

@november90 I'm glad you got some answers! I had my scan brought forward to Tuesday as bleeding again, was only 19 weeks, little man was so curled up shes had to reschedule for in 3 weeks time to check his heart etc. She told me my placenta is at the left and on the low side, but only medically call it low lying if it covers the cervix. Babies foot was at the "exit" as she called it so said mine is fine, so relieved!

Moongirl10 · 02/01/2020 11:53

Anyone else who has had their 20 week scan.. I’ve been told it lasts about an hour, and I’m worried about holding my bladder for that long! How long was everyone’s scan?

Sunshine8888 · 02/01/2020 11:55

@Moonstone12 I was told to allow an hour but tbh it’s pretty rushed and I was out within 20 mins. You don’t need a really full bladder, just moderately.

CharlieB93 · 02/01/2020 12:24

It’s scan day! Can’t believe I’ve got to wait until 4pm, today is dragging!
Good luck to the ladies having scans today, let us know how you get on!

woollycat · 02/01/2020 13:08

@CharlieB93 how exciting! Only 3 hours to go 😀

Regarding having a full bladder - I feel like my bladder has smaller capacity now that bump is growing so I hope I don't need to fill it as much? Scan is next Wednesday!

facevalue · 02/01/2020 13:51

@CharlieB93 i had my 20w scan. The lady was so lovely and took her time. we watched everything on a TV screen. we got given print outs for free. we asked her to write the gender on paper as not agreed yet in case i want a gender reveal later ( atm husband wants to know and i don't). all healthy, placenta anterior but i've been feeling strong kicks since 18 weeks ( not sure if it matters that much).
it was a lovely experience i really could not fault them ( even though we arrived 15mins late for the appointment because of a train cancellation 😖

@november90 i'm so so sorry your experience was not positive the last two times. is it worth sending a feedback to help other ladies in your place in the future. i wonder what hospital this was ( if you don't mind sharing)- just curious if it's regional because of differences in NHS funds. congratulations on good heart scan x

@CharlieB93 if you have a wee an hour before and drink some water until the scan. i had a wee 2.5 hours before the scan and 2 cups of tea - i was going to burst - she told me an hour would have been enough if u drink a couple of glasses of water after u empty the bladder😥 i hope it helps x

facevalue · 02/01/2020 14:02

@Moonstone12 the bladder comment was for u

Herewego2020 · 02/01/2020 14:02

@facevalue what beautiful pictures Smile I'm not great at getting genders right but would say a boy. If I get right will be a first lol. I have to say Rosie at Addenbrookes where we go is also very good and they've been very nice. So it is sad to see other ladies here being treated unfairly and I agree that complaints should be logged.

CharlieB93 · 02/01/2020 14:07

@facevalue what lovely pics I bet you are over the moon!! I didn’t even think about having a full bladder! Thanks for the tip

Reds2007 · 02/01/2020 14:08

Happy new year all!

I'm now 18 weeks + 4 and baby is starting to wriggle and kick away which is lovely :) but is anyone else suffering with horrible back and hip pain?! my back and hips are in agony some days and causes the pain to go all the way around including the bottom of my stomach - I have a pregnancy pillow but even some nights it seems i'm putting to much pressure on my hips - any tips would be greatly appreciated! xx

Raindancer411 · 02/01/2020 14:33

When I had my 12 weeks scan the letter said I didn't have to drink. When I got there I was told 25 mins before my appointment to drink. I drunk two of their plastic water and seems to be enough and I didn't feel like I was bursting

Moonstone12 · 02/01/2020 15:28

@sunshine8888 and @facevalue I think you meant to tag @moongirl10 :)
Didn't want her to miss out on your advice :)
Xx

AlmostAlwyn · 02/01/2020 15:43

Just catching up! I'm 22 weeks now and looking forward to my "20" week scan in a week. It's a bit late as I've been away, but hopefully everything is fine in there! Feeling baby kicking every day Smile We'd like to find out the sex so fingers crossed baby doesn't have its legs crossed like last time! Grin

helpasisterout · 02/01/2020 16:36

Just slipped going down stairs with my arms full and battered my lower back on 4-5 steps now beside myself with worry ☹️☹️☹️

mintbear · 02/01/2020 16:56

@helpasisterout could you call your midwife? They might recommend you just go get checked out, might give you peace of mind.

Re bladder - I'm in a constant state of dehydration and although I drank what they recommend I needed more - plus baby was in a difficult position. I had to go drink more, eat some sugar and walk up and down the stairs to get him to move position!

Total scan time was about 40 mins or so. Apart from the first minute, we could see everything on the screen and the sonographer explained what she was checking as she was doing it. The staff at the hospital have always been spot on, as is the midwife so I'm sorry to those who aren't having a good experience with the nhs.

@AlmostAlwyn good luck with your scan

@Reds2007 you might have spd/pelvic girdle pain - mine has been so bad over Christmas. Keep legs together (ie don't stand on one leg to get changed), put an extra duvet under your sheet to soften the bed, stop walking/exercise if it hurts - pushing through won't make it better, if you can still walk around try walk little and often. Contact your midwife/dr now to get referred to physio as wait lists are long.

Reds2007 · 02/01/2020 16:58

@mintbear thank you! Going to try and make a doctors appointment ASAP :) xx

Sunshine8888 · 02/01/2020 17:26

Oops @Moonstone12 thank you and sorry! Yes meant for @Moongirl10! X

Sunshine8888 · 02/01/2020 17:30

Congrats @facevalue, I’m glad you had a good scan experience and that’s a good idea with the gender reveal. I wonder if you’ll peek or not! ☺️ I don’t think I could resist having it there!!

helpasisterout · 02/01/2020 18:24

@mintbear hopefully I'll be ok just sore as have what I think is sciatica brewing anyway but will see how I feel after a (hopefully) long sleep! X

CharlieB93 · 02/01/2020 18:31

Ahhh we are so happy! Scan took forever, baby was not playing at all, I had to run up and down stairs to try and get them out my pelvis!
I’m sorry to say none of you are psychic Sally’s, we are actually having a girl 💕💕💕💕 over the moon. Got to go back next Monday as they couldn’t get a proper view of the lips to check for cleft 😊
