Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

Cool Mixedmama, that's great news!! Can't believe how many boys there are on this thread must have been something in the air or water last March/April!
Actually was just thinking the other day that this baby was conceived I think on either 31 March or 1 April - April fools day

Congratulations to MM.

Have a nice holiday buzzy - love tropical fruits especially mangos!!! Weight gain is now 1 stone and 3 pounds. Last night felt really sick after having a dodgy take away - feeling the hunger now and stuffing my face with kit kat and wheat crunchies - bet that will get my weight going....!!

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 10:35

Congrats on your great scan and your boy Mixedmama!
I can't believe how organised you lot are - cots up, stuff bought, I am . I have got a cot in the loft which will go in my room but need to get a mattress for it. In fact I need to get everything still! I washed all the soft stuff off of my pram and the new carrycot and put it in the airing cupboard but then DH replaced the door frames this weekend and it is all covered in sawdust now so looks like I will be washing it all again! I keep thinking I should start getting organised but I might leave it another few weeks when hopefully our house will be in a lesser state of chaos than it is now.

Mrswizz · 10/09/2007 11:19

I've put on about 15 or 16lbs, so about the same as you MotherofZ but people say my bump is big. I don't seem to have changed shape anywhere else which is reassuring, especially the amount of kitkats I've put away. I think its the calories from teh alchohol I'd normally drink cancelling out the extra chocolate!

Am off on holiday tomorrow for a week, Italy. Lots of food, lots of lounging on the beach. Lovely. Hope you have a good holiday too Buzzy.

Mixedmama, I got my cot mattress on Ebay. It was under £20, and made to measure to proper safety standards.

Bad night last night, its getting really painful and hard to sleep. Bach ache, pelvis ache, leg cramps, really lively baby. Am knackered.

Another boy on our list Mixedmama. It really is a boy year this year isn't it. Congrats!

MotherofZ · 10/09/2007 11:34

Mrs Wizz - .. holiday to Italy. Where abouts are you going? Am joining you in the aches and pain club..Getting pain near my public bone, especially fining it incrasing uncomfortable to lift my left leg to go into the shower, put trousers on, climb stairs - is that SPD?

thelady · 10/09/2007 11:40

MrsWizz: my multiple nightly cramps seem to have been seen off by going back onto pregnacare vitamins. Touch wood anyway.

DH admitted that he's not ready to talk about buying stuff for this LO. I asked him when he thought he would be: "When there's a baby." . Bit late, methinks.

I'm the one that does the planning, generally, so it's no change from the normal, but a little frustrating none-the-less.

Off to get a card for my cousin: little girl called Chloe arrived about a week ago by planned CS. Can't send much, as they're in S. Africa, but a card is a must.

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 11:54

My DH is not interested in really buying anything yet. We dont really need much to be honest, just a cot as DS1's cot has been converted to Cot bed mode. Would like to get it before DS2 arrives as i want DS1 to get used to sharing and the new layout of the room etc.

Mrswizz · 10/09/2007 12:00

MotherofZ, we're off to the Ligurian coast, just down from Genoa. We go every year.

Still taking pregnacare Thelady, cramps not as bad as they used to be, but last night was awful.

Mixedmama, I'm doing all the buying of stuff. DH laughs every time I buy anything saying I'm really enjoying it. I'm not really - it just wouldn't get done if I didn't do it. I have no nesting instinct, just a knowledge that there are very few paychecks left until maternity pay kicks in. Would rather be buying shoes.

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 12:06

typical, that i had a whole trunk full of boys clothes and when we moved in april i gave virtually everything to the charity shop only to find out two weeks later that i was pregnant and now that we have a little boy on the way. Sods law. Had some great little bits as well.

Bouncingturtle · 10/09/2007 13:00

Congrats Mixedmama!
DH and I had lots of fun assembling baby furniture. He laughed when he saw that I'd put a blanket and some soft toys in the cot. Well it just look so empty with just a mattress! have put a cot sheet down since the mattress needs to air, but I want to wash them first.
Got quite a few bits and pieces such as bodysuits and sleepsuits and some socks and scatch mitts, which will all need washing, but will leave them for when I start on maternoty leave.

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 13:22

MrsWhizz - very at your holday, hope you have a great time!
MotherofZ - not sure if the pain you are getting is SPD. I have very similar pain in my pelvis and under my bump, I also find it difficult and sore to lift my leg to put trousers on (can't always manage it), I have to sit down to put shoes on and am very stiff and sore when I have been sitting for a while or have to change position on sofa or in bed. I also find that my left side is worse than my right. My friend had SPD with her last pg and she keeps trying to tell me I may have it (and has been since I started getting stiff at 14 weeks) but I am not convinced - she seemed in far more pain than I am. I am just putting it down to body not as strong as it used to be and baby sat low down for now but will be speaking to MW about it at next appointment. I move like a 90 year old already and still have over 3 months to go!

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 13:58

I have this same stiffness as well and feel strange to call it SPD or even look into it as SPD seems so severe. My friend explained it as when you walk you feel your hips rubbing.

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 14:30

IKWYM about SPD seeming very severe! My friend said she had stiffness and pain while walking both in her pelvis/hips (but on the inside she said so you couldn't rub it better), limited movement when it came to opening her legs and also some back ache too. She was given a support belt which helped her a lot. She also said she suffered a lot of backache in her 2nd pg which they now say was the start of the SPD and it just got worse for her 3rd.
I have spoken to MWs about the pain a couple of times and they seem to think it is 3rd time around ligament stretching - saying that I have not seen one for nearly 10 weeks now and the pain is definitely worse and has spread.
My pain often feels as though it is on the inside of my thighs but right at the top and right inside, it feels very similar to burning muscle pain (like when you are excercising too hard - not something that happens to me often!). We were in the car for 2 hours the other weekend and when we got out I could hardly walk and it took about 15 mins to ease - DH and DSs found it hilarious!

Neuro · 10/09/2007 14:36

Ladies who already have babies - can you advise on changing mats please? Are they all pretty much the same?
Also, how many babygros/outfits do you need for a newborn? I have about 5 so far. How many more would you reccommend please? I am trying to be frugal by the way!
Thanks

MotherofZ · 10/09/2007 14:44

becklespeckle - in the same boat as you. Bad pain on the left inside thigh. Affecting my walking today and everyone at work keeps asking me if I am ok - they're probably wondering if I am about to go into labour soon! Got M/W appointment next week so am going to ask her about it.

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 14:44

Neuro - with DS1 I bought a big padded changing mat but hardly ever used it - I prefered the fold up one which came with my changing bag! With DS2 I just bought a lovely roll-up one from Mothercare and used to keep it in the changing bag downstairs so I didn't have to keep going upstairs to change him! Lazy moo aren't I? Also, I still have DS2's mat but the big padded one split before DS2 was even born so IMHO a small portable one is a more economical and practical choice.
Seem to be getting a few BH contractions today, definitely had one a week or so ago (it woke me up) but had 2 in the last 20 mins today - anyone else get/getting them this early (24+4)? Don't think I had them before 30 weeks with DS2 and not until the last week or so with DS1.

becklespeckle · 10/09/2007 14:47

I have had people who didn't spot it from the front call me back and ask me if I was pg from my waddle MotherofZ! Let me know how you get on with your MW as your pain sounds very similar to mine, I am due to see MW in 3-4 weeks.
Can I have some advice please ladies? Here we only see MWs on Wednesdays and my due date is a Thursday so would you book your 28 week appointment for 27+6 or 28+6?

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 14:54

Neuro - i would get in as many babygros and vests as possible, if you see them on offer. Most sites advise about 6, but my DS was quite sicky so constantly being changed. Be prepared to do loads of washing in the first few weeks.

Neuro · 10/09/2007 14:58

do they wear vests and babygros at same time?

I am clueless. Just pretend i am a man!

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 15:00

I always dressed DS in a vest and babygro except in Summer.

Neuro · 10/09/2007 15:00

and can i just buy 6 month old ones and he/she can grow into them? all babies are large in my family!

fifisworld · 10/09/2007 15:03

Hello ladies

I havent been on for a while. I feel like im sleeping all the time lately.
Neuro- definatley get as many vest and sleepsuits as you can, and yes they do wear them both together.
Ds was very sickly when he was born and was being changed constantly.
If you have an asda near you they have packs of vests and sleepsuits for about £2, i got stocked up yesterday. They also have good offers on atm on wipes and nappies

Has anyone else started sorting things for there hospital bag yet??

MotherofZ · 10/09/2007 15:04

becklspeckle - Up to you, but I think 27+6 if you still are in a lot of pain - it will be good to discuss it with M/W. Plus don't they listen to the heartbeat at every appointment so it will be nice to hear that again!
Neuro - bought 7 sleepsuits and under vests last time, which sometime felt like they weren't enough as DD needed changing twice a day. Washing machine was in over-drive for the first few weeks!

MotherofZ · 10/09/2007 15:07

I completely ignored newborn sizes and bought 0-3 for DD and they were so BIG on her for the first few weeks. Saying that she out grew her 0-3 stuff at 2 mths.

mixedmama · 10/09/2007 15:08

Fifi - I was thinking about starting to fill up my hospital bag slowly. really enjoyed packing and unpacking last time - so sad sometimes.

Neuro - i would get some smaller to start with as no matter how large it is unlikely that your baby will fit into them straight away. 0-3 months is always better than Newborn as they wear newborn for about a week. also, people will buy you loads of clothes (proper clothes rather than sleepsuits) you will prob have far too many, and a friend advised me to just take them back get vouchers and then use them as and when i needed things. (not all of them obviously, but there will just be far too much stuff).
