Hi, thought I'd start a new thread. Hope ou find this OK!

Just been shopping downtown and bought a fab paid of maternity pants for work.

Also bought "The Baby Name Wizard" as Borders were having 20% off everything. Feel free anyone to ask me a question about names now!! The book categorises them into the following "style families" (chances are if you like one name in the family, you'll like a number of others - e.g. I tend to go for "Antique Charm" names for girls which include Abigail, Adeline, AMelia, Anna. Annabel, Annalise, Ava, Bella, Clara, Daisy, Eleanor, Emma, Eva, Georgia, Grace, Hannah and Isabel):
African, Androgynous, Antique Charm, Bell tones, Biblical, Brisk and Breezy, Celtic, Charms and Graces, Country and Western, English, The -ens, Exotic Traditionals, Fanciful, French, German, Greek, Guys and Dolls, Italian, Jewish, Lacy and Lissome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Last Names First, Latino, Little Darlings, Long Gone, Mid-Century, Modern Meanings, Muslim, Mythological, Namesakes, New Classics, Nickname-Proof, Place-Names, Porch-Sitters, Saints, Scandanavian, '70s and '80s, Shakespearean, Slavic, Solid Citizens, Surfer Sixties, Timeless and Why Not?

thanks

dundeemarmalade · 29/08/2007 17:05

i got the davina pregnancy workout dvd, having used her "normal" one for a while. it's okay- satisfyingly hard work without being worryingly knackering.
have also been to a couple of aquanatal sessions but the class starts at 6 o'clock when i am normally too hungry to do anything other than dive head-first into a plate of toast and honey. have just been told that my local leisure centre does an aquafit class that the leaflet recommends for 'older people, people with a disability and anti or post natal women'. didn't realise that aquafit would work as a contraceptive. . might give it a go though.
dh and i went folk festivalling this weekend (no laughing at the back) and managed camping with bump quite happily. it seemed like every other woman was pg- all of our mates that we only see at festivals were either pg or have just dropped. must have been something in the water last year!
anyway, the discussion of davina etc. has inspired me to get my p.e. kit on and do some gentle prancing. Soooo glad we're not overlooked by any neighbours. To the right, 2, 3, 4, and left 2, 3, 4....

Neuro · 29/08/2007 17:32

i think my boss looks like Smithers.

Honestly he calls meetings at 4pm and expects me to stay awake. I did suggest once it was the worst time for brainstorming for most people at that time of day, he simply said i'm fine at that time.

WELL EVERYONE ELSE ISN'T YOU EFFING IDIOT.

thelady · 29/08/2007 18:46

Cycling is good for thighs (and bums and tummies!) but often leads to increased bulk around the thighs as well....

Definitely stopped mine wobbling when I was cycle commuting, but has resulted in problems with getting trous to fit around the legs now.

Not sure if that's a recommendation or not

Bouncingturtle · 29/08/2007 21:34

Good luck on your night out - try to have a good time despite nasty people! Hope there is lots of others there!
Afraid I'm just fat and lazy lol
Like the idea of being a yummy mummy so will makesort of an attempt to lose weight and get fitter after babba is born!

buzzybee · 30/08/2007 06:03

Before I had DD I threw out most of my pre-preggy clothes with the promise that I was going to use the Selfridge personal shopper and get a few really nice things after. That completely ignored the reality that I was 2 stone heavier than "normal" after so ended up getting Dorothy P stuff (new) for after and then going all out to loose weight so I could still have my Selfridge day out.

Worked a treat in the end - highly recommended but you have to book quite far in advance. Doesn't cost anything apart from any clothes you buy (and you're not actually obliged to) and its absolutely fab sitting there reading mags and sipping mineral water while they scour the shop and come back arms loaded with stuff to try on. I'm 6 foot so had the added challenge of finding things long enough!

Not really a Selfridge equivalent here in NZ so maybe a trip to Melbourne might be on the cards...[in my dreams]

Neuro - does sound presumptious when I put it like that doesn't it? I remember being rather stunned at the time - but not because I thought he was assuming anything, more because it seemed like he wasn't assuming anything IYSWIM since why would anyone admit that if they had in mind sleeping with you!!! I think in fact it was partly a cultural thing (he's German - came to NZ 9 years ago) and partly he was nervous and didn't think before he spoke.

The context is that he already has a 5 year old daughter who sleeps in the same room as him when she stays at his place about 2 nights a week - and apparently even she complains that Daddy snores! He then went on to tell me that he was due to see a consultant soon and hoped to have it sorted - that really scared me (how bad could it be??!)

In the end I actually only slept with him about 4-5 times and it takes me ages to get used to anyone sleeping in my bed so don't think I would have slept well regardless.

Morning....

Again not much to say at the moment - just hi.

Neuro - hope it went ok last night.

buzzybee · 30/08/2007 09:15

Hi mixedmama, how goes it in sunny England today? This side of the world starting to look forward to signs of Spring, although the ski-fields are really busy at the moment.
My newly acquired cleaner came today and its fantastic to have a lovely clean house again.

Grey and gloomy in West Mids

mixedmama · 30/08/2007 09:22

Much the same in London.

of your clleaner. I have such a tiny flat and still cant keep it tidy - mainly through my own laziness.

MotherofZ · 30/08/2007 09:26

are u working early today MM?

I'd love to have a cleaner. Does anyone know what the going rate is?

mixedmama · 30/08/2007 09:36

I think you can get one for £6 an hour.

I am on an earlier shift today. I volunteered to work late over summer as I prefer to keep busy when DS is coming home from ILs so late otherwise I just get stressed. My mum and dad are back on Saturday - cannot wait.

Are you going to be fasting MoZ? i am not, i know we are pretty much exempt anyway but a few people have said that you should try and then if you cant cope stop - but i just worry about if aanything went wrong even if it had abs nothing to do with fasting i would blame myself.

thelady · 30/08/2007 09:37

Sunshine in Jedburgh today

Cleaner gets Monday and Thursdays off, and we have 6 rooms (10 beds) to strip, 6 bathrooms to scrub, 3 public toilets, one pub and a kitchen to clean .

The guests have all checked out (early today!) and DH has gone upstairs to start stripping beds while I make a start on the breakfast dishes.

We pay our cleaner £5.50 an hour, plus NI contributions etc which are about 12% extra. Min wage goes up again in October, though, and although we'd prefer to pay more than the minimum, this rise is probably going to make that impossible. Lots of local places are laying folk off in preparation for the rise - as usual it just means the owners either have to do more hours themselves, or cut the hours they open to make the sums add up.

mixedmama · 30/08/2007 09:39

i find your posts really interesting thelady - it is good to see things from the employers side (esp a smaller employer and not a massive corporate).

cazzybabs · 30/08/2007 09:43

Baby on the move again - I spent hours being equally fasinated and horrifed by my stomach moving. It never does it when the dds are around though.

I think the min wage is a great idea for employees but not employers. We looked at a nanny for a while but the added NI and tax would have me it very expensive.

It is cloudy/sunny day - supposed to get to 22???

2 more days of holiday I don't want to go back.

buzzybee · 30/08/2007 09:45

Sorry to hear that Thelady. I grew up in a B&B place in Wellington - at least my Dad owned it (and lived there) but employed a couple to manage it. I used to help out in between managers (used to turn over about once a year) and I well remember the drudgery and the getting up at 6am to cook bacon and eggs. However I also have very fond memories of talking to the visitors and some day I wouldn't mind getting back into the tourist industry in some way.

I used a cleaner in London for a while but can't for the life of me remember what I paid - 20 quid a visit?? (sorry my keyboard does not have a pound sign on it!)
We had a tiny flat there too but I convinced the ex-DH to get her on the basis that she'd iron all his shirts at the same time. Even tiny flats still have kitchens and bathrooms that get dirty and I've always got them to change the sheets on the beds too. The only thing small space really cuts back on is vacuuming and dusting.

MotherofZ · 30/08/2007 09:46

Defo not fasting although I know of people who have done so while preggers. I certainly don't want to jepordise mine or the baby's health, especially since the days are so long.
Have you got any plans for Eid? Would like to spend it with my family in London, but not sure if I can manage the long drive down in October. When I was stuck in the car for 3 hrs on the Safari, my back was aching like mad the next day.

mixedmama · 30/08/2007 09:59

Not yet. got to get through Ramazan first -thats assuming DH can be bothered to fast.

We will prob go to my nans friends as she alwayas has loads of visiotrs and we goo round in the morning and have massive Turkish breakfast with proper brewed Turkish tea - mmmm. then prob DH wwill take DS to ILs and then to my dads - sometimes we go out with friends in the evening, but after eating all day you just dont want to eat any more.

Lizzer · 30/08/2007 10:04

Hello All, been trawling through all your messages, glad to hear everyone seems ok..

Grey and gloomy up in the NorthWest too...but.... [massive gloat alert!!] I'm going to the spa all day for a hen-do in half an hour, yipee! Obviously I will be using the time to swim 20 lengths as I'm not allowed to use the sauna or steam room - boo! Then lunch and a facial...

I think I'm going to get the davina dvd, dundeemarmalade, if you recomend it? Also, who has actually been to an aquanatal class????!!! I keep thinking I will and then think but what if its just a load of women waffing about in the water rathr than actually getting some exercise done? What are your experiences?

Anyone finding that your point of balance is getting a bit off centre? I keep standing up and my legs kind of wobble til the right balance is found, iykniw (either that or I'm getting so fat now that my leggies can't support the weight!!)

MotherofZ · 30/08/2007 10:09

What do you have for turkish breakfast? we usually have a big lunch and then visit family and friends for the rest of the day.

Liz- enjoy yor day at the spa - sounds lovely!

Having this strong craving for peanut butter on toast this morning....!!

mixedmama · 30/08/2007 10:12

Lizzer - I have never done ante natal water aerobics but have done water aerobics (or whatever it is called)and believe me it is exercise, great workout and also the water just makes you feel so weightless. I am def going to try it. I am off next week and they run a session on Tuesdays so am going to try to attend - will report back if i get to go.

becklespeckle · 30/08/2007 11:00

Hi all, gloomy here in the South East with talk of rain later, soon be Autumn (my favourite time of the year!).
My point of balance is definitely off at the moment Lizzer, I can't even stand on one leg to put trousers on without leaning on something! Am also finding that I can't lift my legs up too high either, is quite painfull on the underside of my tum.
Is anyone else waddling? People are starting to tease me a bit now! I think it depends where the baby is lying as sometimes I am more waddly than others.
After I had my DSs I found I got into shape again fairly easily just by walking a bit every day, I just used to go to my local shop for fresh bread. With this baby I will have 2 school walks a day (about the same distance as shop) so am hoping that will all help!

dundeemarmalade · 30/08/2007 11:11

re aquanatal etc: the class i went to was okay. not great, but okay- lots of jogging on the spot underwater, and marching to the side followed by deep-water kicking with floats. the pool itself was pretty grotty, and the changing rooms were minging. the instructor looked a bit like waynetta slob and was funnier than she intended to be, iykwim. the sight of 2 dozen pregnant women churning through the water towards the deep end while trying not to capsize (the inbuilt pregnancy chest-worn flotation tanks made it rather interesting) is something i will never forget. i suppose it was quite hard work , but there were so many people there it was hard to do it properly and a lot of the women seemed, er, less fit than me (and i'm a lazy sod) and i got really cold last time i went. but it's the only thing going on exercise-wise round here, and it's a bit of a giggle so i'm definitely going to try the local leisure centre's version later today. i'll let you know...

on a different note, i got two bras delivered yesterday- both nursing bras (seems daft buying anything else and they're no more expensive) so non-underwired and HURRAH HURRAH HURRAH it looks like there are at least two companies that have realised that ample bosoms need proper support- one is a bravado and one is called a goddess (how very appropriate), both come in a range of colours, and both stop my bosoms sagging down towards my belly, whereas I actually fell out of the nct one i ordered a few weeks ago it was so weedy. bravado/goddess is the way forward!

Mrswizz · 30/08/2007 11:24

Thanks for the tip on the bras Dundee, I need all the help I can get.

MofZ, I am with you on the peanutbutter, its one of the few things I really miss. Cashewnut butter is not as good.
